We had a wonderful experience and met some really nice people (guests and park employees). The sites are generous and each one has a patch of grass and a great place to stay if you have dogs. I had stayed here in the past with no challenges. It is beautiful and a great place for dogs. But this time the dynamics were different. The first time we were here it was a 2 rig group. When I suggested to a large group that I travel with, that we stay here for the annual trip, we all made the reservations at the same time they knew it was a large group of 13 RV's, 26 people, multiple dogs. We made the reservation when we're doing it sitting around a table during our trip to flagstaff the prior year. This would have been a good time for them to consider what a large group of RV'ers would mean to the surrounding campers.Three Rigs dropped in the 9 months that followed before we arrived for our vacation. I will not be staying here again. To be fair we had a different experience from night to night depending on who was on watch. In all honesty we tried to be quiet and shushed ourselves regularly, but when 10 to 20 people all want to hang out and talk into the evening it can get loud, drinking or not. We laugh a lot and play campfire games (without the fire) so If you like to do that with your group, I do not recommend this place, unless you all want to stay in your rig at night,. They were happy to receive our payments but unable to manage the placement of a large group to keep their other campers happy it seems. We were not aware that the lights of our awning needed to be turned off at 8, we were told to turn off the awning lights, and we did with no problem. Instead of board games we decided to play campfire games in the dark. This too seemed to be annoying to the camp host as he told us at 8:30 it was PRE quiet time. It seemed he would not be satisfied until everyone was in their RV. Preferably before 9 PM. We had a slightly different experience with another camp host, but it was enough to let us know that this particular RV park was not one we would be returning to. If you have large groups that like to hang out and talk, laugh and play games I do not recommend this business. read more

We loved this RV park! We were there late August and the weather was great! The pancakes for breakfast were so good. Our dog loved the 2 acre dog park so much that we ended up using the coin/bill operated dog bath they have as well. That was extremely convenient. We never got to use the pool bc we were always busy adventuring during the hours it was opens but we did use the laundry facilities and they were nice. The staff were very friendly and they also have a cute little gift shop! I highly recommend this place and we are planning to go back!! read more

Zero stars! They treat you like your children and they have all these rules and they are very unfriendly when there's a problem that comes up. They yelled at us because we cannot get out of our spot and we drove over some grass. Boo-hoo. They need to do the roads better and I can't believe the way we were treated when this happened. Do not go here. There are other beautiful RV spots in this town and this is not one of them. They treat you like kindergartners. Even when we arrived, they drove us to our spot twice because we had to unhook our Jeep first. I think we got it when we got the jeep you did not need to follow us like a baby and then have us park 2 inches from the other RV where we had to back up so we weren't touching the other RV when our slide outs went out. This was the most dog friendly campsite we have been to. Jerri was super sweet and walked our dogs for us while we were away on a fishing trip during the day. Alpen Rose is a beautiful park in a great location. They have lots of amenities and lots of nice rigs in their spots. But plan to break out the pocketbook, nothing here is cheap. We had a wonderful visit and really couldn't complain about much other than the WiFi or lack thereof but face it not many RV parks have mastered WiFi. All in all, a great stay. Great location, great people, great resort. Unfortunately there's also a horrible horse manure smell that overwhelms in the evening. Every 15 minutes or so, the overwhelming stench of urine and pasture pies comes in like a World War I trench warfare gas-attack. If you're from a farm and enjoy the smell of horse and cow feces you'll enjoy this very much. If you're anyone else you won't enjoy this very much. To be fair, the resort, all employees, and their services are impeccable. Unfortunately there's a nearby farm or stable that results in very powerful aromatic impact. read more

WOW...I can't believe the completely unprofessional people that runs this RV Park!!! SHAME ON THE OWNERS FOR ALLOWING PEOPLE LIKE THIS TO ACT SO INAPPROPRIATE!!! NOTE: The one star is a huge stretch! But Harry that greeted us was very nice and informational as well, as you will see in this review. We arrived at this location on time for a 9 day stay August 2024. We had a couple questions that Harry couldn't answer before he took us to our site. He warned us about the office ladies and said they were in a good mood this morning and to bring chocolate to get answers to our questions. We laugh for a moment thinking that's weird and then Harry took us to our site. We have a 31' class A rv and they put us in a very tight site close to a large tree which seemed ok until we parked in space #37. The smell of sewage was overwhelming. We looked at the water hookup and dump area and there was feces, used TP paper and ? all over the ground. We proceeded to report this to the lady behind the desk in the office. She had an attitude right out of the gate and told us it was ok and not a sewer problem. First lie! We told her we were not going to stay in the sewage dump area. With an attitude, she said we could use the "Emergency site #53" so we walked over to take a look. It was very very tight for our Rv and jeep, but it was the only site they said was available even though the campground had many open sites. We went back to the rv at site #37 and watched the 2 worker shovelling up the dirt, tp, and ? from that site and putting it into a 5 gal bucket like it's something they have done before! We waited and watched. Then they put down Chlorine chunks on the ground to mask the smell. 10 minutes later, No one told us to wait there to be escorted to the next site #53, so I proceeded to move our RV out of the way of the digging, over to that site as my wife went back to the office to let the woman know we would try #53 site if that was OK and that I was headed to the new site with my our RV. WELL, Nothing like being greeted by a GM in a robe giving my wife all sorts of attitude with her posture and language threatening and telling us to not move the RV. My wife asked why and the Old red headed lady "GM in a robe" said we needed to be escorted. My wife said OK but no one told us! This old lady snapped at my wife in a very disturbing manor. She came back to our RV upset and told me the store. What a mess! we weren't onsite more than 20 minutes and they showed their asses! WAY TO GO OWNERS! The 2 guys that I guess were supposed to escort us were too busy digging up feces and dirt so maybe they forgot...? 2 days went by and we did not have enough room for our tow vehicle to park correctly. So on Monday morning Aug.12th, 9:00 AM, I went to the office to ask if they could move us to a better spot and we would pay the difference. Site K was available per what the website was offering. I asked the woman behind the counter if we could take that site. OUT OF THE GATE SHE HAD AN ATTITUDE BIG TIME!!! She said the sites were only for big rigs 42' long. I said ok but there is a fifth wheel out there now that's the same size as our Rv and my question was can I reserve the site for next year. She again asked me the size of our setup. I told her with tow we are 42'. I told her our rig was 31' and then she throw her hands in the air sat back in her chair and called me a liar! 3 times calling me a liar! The Old red headed lady in a robe approach me and said if I wasn't OK with the site, she would reimburse us and we would need to leave. I proceeded to address the ruud woman behind the counter and then told the GM that we had sewage smell at the site, allot of mudd and the water smells, this was at site #53, "Emergency site" The Old red headed GM lied and said the backup in site #37 was leafs! I laughed and said she was full of it because I was there and both the workers admitted it. Lie #2. I told them I was not happy and will make different accommodations and will let them know. Before I was done with them, another Park GM told me he was in charge of the park and asked me about the sewer smell at our site. I asked him what his position was and he said he was the onsite engineer...CJ. I told him I was an engineer as well and he asked me what type of engineer and I told him. The next words out of his mouth were insults. I let it go! He proceeded to show his ass by trying to tell me how an open tank will allow smells into your home or RV, This guys obviously was from another country with his silly hat and sandals! I told him that's why we have drain traps right, he nodded. Again SILLY! later that day we had another guy ask us to move our jeep 4 feet into our site, he told us he was the Park GM. That's 3 GM's. I moved the jeep back and forth because there was no room. Lastly. We set up new accommodations somewhere else and I called the office to let them know we were leaving 4 days early and to refund us for those days. 20 minutes after we read more

We have stayed at Alpen Rose RV Park several times. Recently we made reservations, nine months in advance, for a trip next year. Unfortunately, a month later we needed to cancel the trip. As Alpen Rose does not have a Cancelation Policy posted on their site we called to inquire and cancel our trip. We were shocked when told we would be charged $50,00 for canceling even though it was still eight months out. Be careful when making reservations at this location as they have an exorbitant Cancelation Policy. read more

Plenty of shade, level gravel lots, very well maintained and lots of amenities: breakfast, pizza, laundry, dog park, and small pool. Wow. We just found out our reservation this summer was cancelled and we've been banned from the park for "speeding." We were sent no notification or explanation. I only found out by calling to check on our reservation. My husband was warned *once* last summer for driving over 5mph. It was never mentioned again. When we checked out, not a word was said. I believe they do not want young families with children staying here and were looking for a reason to ban us. It's a great park and we loved staying there. But that is no way to handle things. The staff has also been flat out mean to our kids. No place for families with children. read more

Alpen Rose is a very nice RV park. The lots are spacious for my 20' R pod and we loved the stream outside our sleeping area. The dog run is at least 2 acres and our two dogs loved being able to run freely. Showers are clean and staff makes sure each site is ready for the next guess but sanitizing the tables and making sure things are orderly. The location is great as it is close to Durango and you can easily do day trips to Pagosa Springs, Silverton, and Ouray. We will hit Telluride next time! My only complaint is about the fishing pond. It could be a really great thing for kids but I did not see anyone catching fish. My son and I spent time there and we were without luck too. I asked the camp hosts and the employee in the store if they sold bait or had any idea what to use. Everyone said the same thing that they didn't fish and had no idea. If it were me, I'd have the correct bait and make sure kids could enjoy this missed resource for fun and family bonding. Have a local fisherman make something to give to campers. I would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in this area. You don't have any steep roads to manage and it really is a good park. read more

Also the park has a nice fishing pond and a huge dog walk area and the staff are all friendly courteous willing to help when my dog got loose, they all help me look for it, and I was deeply appreciated, it is very convenient to downtown Durango and the train. Was honestly extremely excited to stay here on our cross-country road trip but came to find out through no fault of our own that they don't except rooftop tents are. This is fine, if you have a policy, I don't expect it changed for me, but it at least needs to be made known on the website at booking that tents are strictly prohibited. Anyway, I booked without knowing this, and then when I called to confirm that we would be ok, their winter manager was one of the most unprofessional people I've ever spoken to. She stated that I was not truthful upon checking out and I lied about our type of sleeping arrangement. When I told her that was the reason I called to verify, she still wasn't having it and was refusing to give me a refund so she had to talk to the boss. When she called me back, she was saying that it was my lucky day that I was even getting any money back for the reservation and when I thanked her and asked for other recommendations, she gave them, but then proceeded to try and lecture me, yet again, saying in the future to be truthful on all applications, and even said, "word to the wise." Pretty shitty customer service for an "award winning" campground. I see that I'm not the first to say this either. Ps- there are plenty of vans that don't have bathrooms and full showers, so also a pretty poor excuse for not allowing a full off-grid RTT to stay for 12 hours. read more

This is a great campground! Probably the best so far, weve been on the road for two months now. Its so pretty and the amenities were amazing. They offer breakfast every morning and pizza every night. You can even get it delivered to your rig. The laundry facility was top notch and restrooms are sparkling clean. The camp store was very nice and had some very cute things. The spaces were surrounded by trees but they were nicely groomed so they dont touch your rig. Although the spaces arent huge there is plenty of room for you to put your bbq out and a couple of chairs so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. We would definitely stay again if in the area. We loved this park. We spent 6 weeks traveling through Colorado and this was by far our favorite place we stayed. Not sure why the one star reviews. Honestly, I think it must be people with different preferences that are looking for an "anything goes" type of place. 1. The location is beautiful and the park well manicured. I love that. I am happy to pay more for a place that is well kept vs a cheaper place that looks run down. This place had lots of trees and grass. 2. The managers and workers were more than fair, even willing to accommodate us and try to help us on some last minute requests. 3. The dog park is massive! My pup just loved it. It's big enough that dogs that don't get along nice can be at different ends, too. 3. They have chuck wagon breakfasts, pizzas and more in-house. You can even just charge it to your site, and the food is pretty good. They even delivered the pizza we ordered to our site for us. 4. The pool and kids play area is really nice and well kept. They even have a pond you can fish in. 5. The trash is kept away from the RV's. A lot of parks have them too close. 6. Did I mention how accommodating? Everyone was super friendly and kind. Again, don't understand the one stars. This was absolutely my favorite place we've stayed and we will be coming back. read more

The view was amazing. Nestled beneath beautiful mountains. It's a bit outside town, but all drives are beautiful up/out here. Large rock/gravel sites, easy to pull through. Plenty of space in between. We were pulling a 25 foot long trailer with a car and motorcycles in it and they were very accommodating to us with where to park it. Especially considering we arrived so late, due to engine trouble. They came out with flashlights and helped us get the trailer situated. Don't know how much trouble the park gets for this, but the other campers were great too. Some sort of folks musicians in a band. Great to listen to around a bon fire at night. The playground and pool were great for the little ones. Wasn't our first time visiting Durango, and probably won't be our last. And now we know where we will stay next time! read more

We had a reservation here on 8/20/21, but due to mechanical problems and sitting on the side of the road for hours, we were not able to get there. Tried to call but since the office closes at 4, I contacted the owner first thing in the morning. When I explained our situation to the owner and asked her if we could switch our reservation to that night, she said no and was very unsympathetic about all that we had been through. Not only was she unsympathetic, but she was downright nasty. Got a reservation at an RV park a little ways down the road that was just lovely; The spaces are much further apart than at Alpen Rose, the owners are lovely, helpful people and after seeing how close the spaces are at Alpen Rose and the reviews that talked about the horrible septic smell, we're glad we didn't stay there. Normally, RV parks are sympathetic when people have these types of problems, but this is not one of those parks. Luckily, there are plenty of other RV parks in Durango that are much nicer. On a review I left on another site, she tried to make herself look better by saying that she did not charge us for the 2nd night....only thing is, we weren't booked for a second night. So on top of being grumpy, she also doesn't tell the truth!!! read more

This spot was absolutely beautiful during our winter visit! Even without some of the cool amenities (trout fishing pond and cafe), which were closed for the season, it was still a wonderful place. The huge dog park was great for our pups to play in the snow! Judy was always quick to reply and helped us out at the end of our stay. From the moment we pulling in, the extra services they provide were a great surprise. Someone guided up to our campsite and helped us back in. One of our propane tanks ran out during our stay, we were told to leave at the front of our trailer, left for a day of adventure, and came back to a filled tank. Our kids loved the volleyball net and Tetherball. Guest services provided recommendations on activities and great recommendations. We had a wonderful 4 nights at Alpen Rose! Made a reservation for a 50' space - 25' trailer, 25' truck. They took me to site # 41 - not even 15', at the top of the hill and not a level space. They had everyone crammed into the hillside, about 3 or 4 RV's in the wide open, level area. Said they were "full" but it was already about 4pm. They wouldn't refund our money, saying that we were not entitle and that I had to speak to the Manager, Judy Cook. Since we left, two weeks now, I have called and called, left 5 messages and no call back from her. Sometimes when I call, during business hours, no one answers. We stayed here many years ago when the original owners had it and it was great. The place is now a dump and the woman who worked there agreed! DO NOT STAY THERE! They do not provide what you make a reservation for and they won't refund your money or even call you back to discuss it. TERRIBLE! The worse place we have encountered. read more

The manager drove by our campsite and looked around and was like when can I mow the lawn ? Like really we are camping and don't want to drag grass in our camper. This RV resort is in a beautiful area just outside of Durango. We were greeted at a gate and escorted to our campsite. We had to pull through site for our travel trailer and hook ups were easy. We had a nice grassy area near our site. They have a 2 acre off leash dog area which was amazing. They have a nice pool and outdoor fire pit area. The best thing about this park was that they have an on-site kitchen which prepares barbecue meals, breakfast, pizza. The pizza was amazing! They even delivered our food directly to our campsite via their golf carts. It was so awesome! The stars in the sky the night we stayed were unreal. We wish we could've stayed longer. Very impressed. Didn't have super high expectations before arriving but after staying I am very impressed with how clean the grounds were and how professional the staff are. In fact the staff really was kind and over the top sweet to my kids and stopped by multiple times to help me setup my site and make sure I was doing ok. I like that they have strict rules that keep things in order and safe especially since I have young kids. Highly recommend an end cap spot if doing a pull through.
