Meet the Business Owner: Cotton R.
Cotton taught himself to play a 5 string Stratavarus fiddle that Bob Wills gave him. He started playing professionally at the age of 5; his first appearance at the Grand Ole Oprey at age 9. Playing both steel guitar and his Stratavarus fiddle, he played with Bob Wills, Hank Thompson, Ernest Tubb, Mickey Gilley, Faron Young, Hank Snow, Marty Robbins and many others. A near mortal accident in 1985 terminated his musical career. Until then, for 27 years, he was the house fiddle player for the Grand Ole Oprey.
Before he was 15, Cotton wrote over 500 country songs, 14 of which went #1 in the '50's. I Overlooked an Orchid was #1 for 66 weeks, The Wild Side of Life was #1 for 65 weeks, Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young was #1 for 73 weeks.
As a superb fiddle player, Cotton's skill is perhaps best demonstrated in the Urban Cowboy soundtrack: the Orange Blossom Special.
As an accomplished Country Dancer, he taught the Dallas Cowboys to dance at the request of Tom Landry.
