Great service and delicious food. Signage outside should be larger. Hard to find the location

Great food and reasonable prices. Nice setting with Mountain View's. Taco of the week is always great and also the Asian chicken wrap.

We always stay in Durango on our way to Breckenridge so made sure we stopped here for breakfast. It's a little north of town. 9 miles but worth it. They have a cute and large outdoor patio area where you can bring your dog as well as a covered semi indoor area and a smaller indoor area. They are open from 7-2. I loved that I could build my own breakfast and ordered 2 eggs over medium cheesy chili grits and a fruit cup. My husband also ordered two eggs over medium bacon and hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked perfectly! I can't tell you how many times I have gone to restaurants and chefs. Do not know how to cook an egg over medium! Cheesy green chili grits were fantastic just the right amount of spice and a great cheesy topping so good! The fruit cup was plentiful with grape strawberries and cantaloupe, pineapple and all nice fresh fruit. My husband said the bacon was perfectly cooked and the hashbrowns had a great crunch. We will definitely come back anytime we are in Durango! If you're in the area, they are worth the trip.

I've eaten at the Durango Diner since my college days, forty years ago. Being in the area I was…read morebeyond happy to see it was still open so our final breakfast for this brief trip had to be here. The restaurant is tiny, a narrow shotgun type unit in a building along main street. We managed to get one of their five tables and were promptly served drinks and time to look over the menu before ordering the Country Benedict. My coffee was kept filled as we waited for our order. As soon as the plate hit the table, I knew that even though the owner had changed, the spirit of the place remained. The plate of food was massive; more than the two of us could eat. The plate included two halves of an excellent biscuit, half of a large sausage patty on each, an over easy egg; all smothered in country sausage gravy. The other half of the plate had a mound of beautiful browned hash browns. Enough for four people or at least two very hungry people. It was glorious and nostalgic. The flavor was everything I wanted it to be. If you are in or near Durango, please consider giving this true old diner a try. Thanks to Greg, the new owner, for continuing Gary's recipes and hospitality.

We stopped in for breakfast when we didn't realize there was an art festival going on in the city of Durango, so we expected it to feel crowded, busy and rushed. They found a table for us right away (part of that was lucky timing on our part), but provided great service.... Answering all of our questions and asking where we are from and overall friendly service. We all ordered the breakfast burritos and it was better than what we expected. I highly recommend the green chili sauce they smother the burrito in.... It's super tasty! And in the end, the price was lower than we expected.... So, great environment, great food. 5 stars! I would be happy to come back to this one!

So fun and friendly they moonlight as professional best friends. The pineapple salsa hit like a tropical vacation I didn't know I needed. Nachos were great -- no notes. The pulled pork was so flavorful it made me question my plain-chicken era. The brisket? Fork-optional tender. And the mac and cheese was so creamy it deserves its own zip code. But the real villain? The Chubby Cow Taco. I don't know what sorcery lives inside that thing, but it now haunts my dreams in the best possible way. 5/5 stars. Will return. Possibly tonight.

My wife and I both ordered the brisket taco. Hers without the pineapple mango salsa and with Mac and cheese as a side. I ordered a side of sweet potato fries with mine. My wife absolutely loved it. I was expecting moister brisket rather than the burnt ends type meat. That being said, the flavors were very good. The tacos included a large portion of the burnt ends with a very tasty rather sweet bbq sauce, chunks of potatoes with a melty white cheese and a good flour tortilla. I was saddened by the amount of cilantro in the salsa; blame my DNA as it tastes like soap to me. I found the sweet potato fries tasty and an adequate amount as a small side. My wife's side of Mac and cheese was the better side and was easily enough for both of us to have shared as a side. It reheated well for an addition to a salad the next day in our hotel room. Our friends had a very good bacon cheeseburger and a grilled cheese, both with large portions of French fries. They also had leftovers to take home. The service was prompt and attentive without feeling like we were being hovered over, nor were we pressured to eat and leave. This made for a very pleasant conversation catching up with old friends. This would be one of our top dining choices in Cortez.

If you are a lover of well done birria, this is your place. Craving authentic Mexican food? Yep, this is your place. We started with their chips and salsa. I think you can tell a lot by the salsa at a place. Lemme just say, I was so very happy! Their salsa wasn't too chunky, not too thin and they are not afraid to season and add some heat - but hey, don't worry it wasn't too hot if you've got a dad like mine who isn't a fan of "too much spice." Such a good omen. I couldn't decide which marg to try so ordered a flight. Best decision ever. Even as I write this, I'm still hard pressed to choose a favorite. They were all so good. Add street tacos, quesadillas for my mom, elote cob, and switch fries for my dad and we were all happy campers. The flavors were obscenely good. Staff were amazing and stopped by to make sure we were always taken care of: fast and friendly. Best combo ever. The place is also super cute! Loved the bar and simplicity of the concept. Switchback has a quiet elegance while be so very casual. Perfect in my book.
