Had an awesome lunch! Started with shrimp remolaude-delicious " red" oil based sauce, with lots of creole mustard, not the typical mayo based pinky sauce. It was really good. I had the filet of fish- great sauce, buttery brioche bun. Husband got a roast beef po-boy with Zapps, it was just wet enough, not too sloppy and the perfect size. Wow! Wow! Wow! I love Elvie's! We just discovered it and are so glad we did. The execution is on par with any brunch place you can think of, up to and including Brennan's, Commander's, Palace Cafe, etc. I had the cereal milk punch, duck fat hash browns, and a Dutch Baby and they were all truly excellent. Oh my gash!!! Finally I found a place were the food looks very beautiful, fresh, cute and Tastes Very good!! I love the breakfast here. Very reasonable price. My cappuccino was very good 7 out of 10! I wish the cup would be a little bigger for that price. Inside was very laude noise from the kitchen so we choose to sit outside. And it was great. What type of magic is this? I had only one night in Jackson on my way from Dallas to Atlanta, and I specifically chose where I stayed so I could wake up and try Elvie's. Best decision! I was able to walk over on a Tuesday morning and get one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. I don't say that lightly. My only regret is I took a pic of my boyfriend's meal - the Duck Fat Hashbrown, which was delicious and he loved - but didn't snap a pic of my slice of heaven - the Mushroom Madame. I was on the fence about my order but me-oh-my am I glad I went with it. I'll be dreaming of that dish for a while. I also ordered their home fries on a whim. I say "on a whim" because I'm usually disappointed by home fries. Not by these, which were perfectly crispy and made best friends with my egg yolk I now know I have to stop in Jackson again because I must try Elvie's dinner. And I also would love to check out the neighboring Good Bar. Does this sound like a love letter? It is. And thank you to the staff as well. They were kind, patient and helpful with suggestions. We were back in town for an extended weekend and I was craving brunch. I found this place on Yelp and I gave them a call about 90 minutes before they opened. The gentleman who answered the phone game two solid tips. If you're not at the door within 30 minutes of opening, you will be waiting in a long line. There are no reservations for brunch. The second tip was the really good people watching spots are right outside the front door. If you want one of those spots, be there 15 minutes prior to opening. We arrived 15 minutes after they opened. It was nearly full already. I remember it being a little chilly inside so make sure to bring a light jacket or shall. We were immediately greeted and seated. As I looked around, it felt warm, inviting and charming. I immediately felt welcome and happy. Our waitress was so nice and she answered all of our questions. My eyes immediately gravitated to an item I have never seen before. A duck fat hashbrown with bacon, eggs and hollandaise sauce on top? Dear Lord. I had to try it. My wife ordered the classic americaine with the biscuit, bacon and grits. My wife asked for cheese in her scrambled eggs and the waitress said no problem. My neice ordered the breakfast sandwich with grits. Oh, I forgot to mention a free sticky bun with nuts comes with the meal. The picture I posted will explain. The food came out in about 20 minutes. My wife and neice took their first few bites and loved it. So now I needed to focus on this piece of art. There was a crispy duck fat hashbrown at the bottom in the shape of a square with eggs on top. The next thing I noticed was the bacon on top of the eggs with hollandaise sauce poured over everything. Then God answered my prayers with a sprinkle of chives. It was game on! Thankfully the hashbrown is not over seasoned so you can construct one of the most amazing bites ever. The first thing to do is cut the bacon into pieces so it is part of every bite. Bare with me. Then break the yokes. Now grab a piece of the hollandaise soaked eggs with a bite of the hashbrown and a piece of the bacon. Don't forget to grab a few chives. Now put it in your mouth and close your eyes. All of sudden everything goes quite. You can't hear anyone in this bustling restaurant. All you can hear is yourself slowly chewing the sinful food. Your face will warm up with a facial expression like you did something naughty. The next few minutes were a blur. I remember nodding my head and occasionally and saying, "I agree or your right." Also, I stole my wife's biscuit to wipe out the remaining hollandaise sauce. Basically, I was being a horrible husband and a terrible uncle. Who cares. It was my selfish moment. If you can't tell, I loved it! If I lived her, it would be my go to spot. I hope you feel the same way. read more

My personal favorite was the duck fat hashbrown, which was the perfect balance of crispy potatoes and runny egg topped with hollandaise sauce. We also tried the breakfast poutine, pork belly and grits, and Muffuletta (from the lunch menu - very meat heavy so would not recommend). I don't want to come off as condescending, but since moving to Brandon from a foodie city (Portland, Oregon), I have struggled to find really good food. That is, besides homemade Southern cuisine prepared by my family! I was headed to one of my favorite pit stops, Kiefer's, and passed by Elvie's and decided to give it a try based on Yelp reviews. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I had a sangria, which was prepared perfectly and had a hint of ginger. My brunch plate was chicken and biscuit. The chicken was well seasoned and crispy and the biscuit was the best I've had. Moist and warm and buttery. The honey spread was also scrumptious. I opted for the grits and they were yummy as well. Got brunch here last weekend! I got the eggs, sausage, toast, and cheese grits dish and it hit the spot. The toast was exceptionally good--not sure what kind of bread they use but it was amazing! I also enjoyed the chicken biscuit and fries. Everyone around us had the sangria to drink but they were out of it when we got there! I hope to try it next time. We had great service and the modern diner ambience was wonderful. To pay, we used a QR code on the receipt that took us to Apple Pay so it was nice we didn't have to wait for the waitress to bring our cards back. Can't wait to come back! read more

I've taken a week before responding because the experience was so bizarre, but now feel it is important to share. Essentially, we came in for our first time with a 5:00pm reservation. They were not very busy with empty tables inside and outside and 4 people sitting at bar. Ordered cocktails and then appetizers and glasses of sparkling. The glasses of sparkling took much longer to get than should have. Lots of servers just standing around. After we finished two Appetizers we asked for tastes of glasses of wine, and that was where it started going downhill. It was 6pm and we had decided on our entrees. The server came over and we thought she was about to take our order and totally out of the blue she said our table has another reservation coming in at 715 and we needed to be done. And I looked at my watch - it was 605. It wasn't just what she said but how she said it that was disturbing. Clearly she was frustrated that we were taking so long. But with only entrees left we weren't going to need another hour or more.. In fact we had another engagement at 7! So I just said we will end it there and asked to speak to the manager, which the server again didn't like. I counted 16 people in the restaurant and still multiple empty tables. The manager came over and also had a bit of an attitude saying when I made the reservation there should have been notice of time limit. That wasn't my point. If it was such a big deal they should have stated up front, and if they wanted to be in charge of the timing to that extent than just force us to order everything at once. For these prices we should be able to enjoy ourselves at our pace, though. And, again they weren't even that busy! The manager came back, and said she was taking care of our bill, and I offered to still tip the server to which the manager replied in a haughty tone that wasn't necessary as they fully compensate their employees. She also said that one bad experience shouldn't define a restaurant, to which I admittedly in smart-alek fashion said this did not live up to its reputation for awards. And that was how it ended. Walked up to Manship and still had time to order more drinks and appetizers before leaving at 650. And so we will stick to Manship from now on! The bar overall and wine menu are much better there anyway. We also were frequent Mayflower patrons and this has us concerned about its future. read more

We ordered a drink, two appetizers, and two entrees which all came out quickly. The food was delicious. I'm not a big Bree fan, but the Bree on the honey toast was excellent. My osso bucco was tender and the sides paired very nicely. My wife told the waitress that she was a pescatarian and proceeded to order the "poussin" thinking it was fish ("poisson"). Turns out "poussin" is a French word for a young chicken. I ate both entrees, and my wife proceeded to get the redfish. The owner was nice enough to refund the poussin after the confusion. I had an absolutely terrible experience at Elvie's. I was seated at the back of the restaurant, tucked in a corner with a full view of the bathroom. I'm not the only reviewer of color who has commented on being seated in this undesirable location. There were several open tables available and I did make a reservation for that evening. I ordered a cocktail, appetizer, salad and an entree. The pasta dish I ordered was extremely salty and I politely told my waitress. She was dismissive and told me it was the Parmesan cheese. I'm familiar with the taste and impact of Parmesan cheese and I told her unfortunately, the dish was just too salty for me to eat. She removed the plate and took it to the kitchen. She returned a few minutes later and told me the cook said he didn't add salt to the pasta and then she handed me the check for my dinner. The check included the pasta I didn't eat. She didn't offer a remedy or replacement. I won't be returning. read more

The wait was short! They told us to get drinks at the pop up bar nextdoor, the menu was good for afternoon drinking but no brunch drinks listed. No straws at the bar either. Elvie's was good but the service time was around 15 minutes before you were even greeted by your server. Once someone took your order it was about 30 min until we received our food. The food was good. Not wonderful which is what I have been told. We may go back if we can allot more time. Give yourself around 1 1/2 hours in all that's after wait time. read more
