Try it at your own risk! Boozy Iced Coffee-- omg this was delicious! Especially if you're into coffee. Not too sweet but not too bitter either. I loved it. To eat, I went with the Stack of Pancakes (savory). Had an awesome lunch! Started with shrimp remolaude-delicious " red" oil based sauce, with lots of creole mustard, not the typical mayo based pinky sauce. It was really good. I had the filet of fish- great sauce, buttery brioche bun. Husband got a roast beef po-boy with Zapps, it was just wet enough, not too sloppy and the perfect size. We stopped here for Saturday brunch while driving home from Orange Beach, AL. I know nothing about Jackson so don't know what this little neighborhood is called but it is super cute, looks like up and coming. The food here is delicious. I had the chicken biscuit with home fries and they were amazing. The biscuit was to die for and the home fries were like little tiny French fries. So good. There were 5 of us and everyone was thrilled with their choices. I snuck a bite of my daughters biscuits and gravy and cheese grits! YUMMMY!!! read more

I love Elvie's. I live in Virginia but I'm a native Jacksonian and I was thrilled to visit last summer for lunch with sisters. It was fantastic. I wanted to share the experience with my husband this summer, and so we visited for an anniversary date night. We ordered raw oysters and Oysters Elmira to start. They exceeded expectations, both were perfection. My wine pairing, an orange glou glou, recommended by our server, was equally delightful. My husband felt good but not amazing about his cocktail choice, a seasonal selection (Saturn something?). We followed with a a little gem salad and cacio e Pepe for me, and the duck confit for him. I adored the cacio e pepe, while the salad was just a nice Caesar salad with what seemed to be house made croutons (yum!). I paired with Bordeaux and was quite satisfied. My husband was less than pleased. The duck was like a glorified chicken wing in his estimation. Very little meat on the bone and a forgettable flavor. He was quite disappointed. He had another seasonal cocktail (Solstice something) which he loved. To redeem the entrée experience, he ordered dessert: S'mores baked Alaska. He loved it, and I thought it was fine. Later, he claimed the cocktails were the best he's had in recent years. Overall, we had a good time and the ambiance was on point. I have decided they do starters better than mains. What an amazing experience! I ordered the Pork Belly Porchetta, and it was probably the best thing I've ever eaten. The bread and butter appetizer was phenomenal with a house made butter that I could not stop eating. The restaurant is in what seemed to be a pretty safe area. The kitchen was partly exposed to the dining area, which allowed you to view the plating of your meal. My waitress was extremely attentive, and was constantly making sure I had what I needed. Wow! Wow! Wow! I love Elvie's! We just discovered it and are so glad we did. The execution is on par with any brunch place you can think of, up to and including Brennan's, Commander's, Palace Cafe, etc. I had the cereal milk punch, duck fat hash browns, and a Dutch Baby and they were all truly excellent. Ummmm, they are trying really hard to be a special place, but not quite there. Very cool ambiance. Food was pretty meh. The oysters were good- tasty and a good size. The highly touted duck fried french fries were just pretty good fries. The dish that Elvie's is known for,according to the host and our server, is the Redfish Almandine. It was prepared nicely, but it just didn't stand out to us. Honestly, the thing that turned us off most was that our water had a smell and taste of fish. Stopped in here for breakfast during the week. Service was great. Food tasted great. But I couldn't get past several waitresses sprinkling essence onto every dish with their bare fingers before bringing to tables. It looked like salt and maybe other garnishes. I am ServSafe and I've worked in the food industry for a long time. Dipping unwashed hands into any bowl is totally unsanitary and asking for things like ecoli contamination. Things get under your nails and sprinkling onto food. And the fact that these little sprinkles are happening AFTER the food is cooked is even scarier bc there's no heat to kill whatever filth may be on hands and under nails. It totally grossed me out. I tried to order whatever I thought they would not be sprinkling toppings on top in hopes my dish wouldn't get the ecoli sprinkles. read more

We were back in town for an extended weekend and I was craving brunch. I found this place on Yelp and I gave them a call about 90 minutes before they opened. The gentleman who answered the phone game two solid tips. If you're not at the door within 30 minutes of opening, you will be waiting in a long line. There are no reservations for brunch. The second tip was the really good people watching spots are right outside the front door. If you want one of those spots, be there 15 minutes prior to opening. We arrived 15 minutes after they opened. It was nearly full already. I remember it being a little chilly inside so make sure to bring a light jacket or shall. We were immediately greeted and seated. As I looked around, it felt warm, inviting and charming. I immediately felt welcome and happy. Our waitress was so nice and she answered all of our questions. My eyes immediately gravitated to an item I have never seen before. A duck fat hashbrown with bacon, eggs and hollandaise sauce on top? Dear Lord. I had to try it. My wife ordered the classic americaine with the biscuit, bacon and grits. My wife asked for cheese in her scrambled eggs and the waitress said no problem. My neice ordered the breakfast sandwich with grits. Oh, I forgot to mention a free sticky bun with nuts comes with the meal. The picture I posted will explain. The food came out in about 20 minutes. My wife and neice took their first few bites and loved it. So now I needed to focus on this piece of art. There was a crispy duck fat hashbrown at the bottom in the shape of a square with eggs on top. The next thing I noticed was the bacon on top of the eggs with hollandaise sauce poured over everything. Then God answered my prayers with a sprinkle of chives. It was game on! Thankfully the hashbrown is not over seasoned so you can construct one of the most amazing bites ever. The first thing to do is cut the bacon into pieces so it is part of every bite. Bare with me. Then break the yokes. Now grab a piece of the hollandaise soaked eggs with a bite of the hashbrown and a piece of the bacon. Don't forget to grab a few chives. Now put it in your mouth and close your eyes. All of sudden everything goes quite. You can't hear anyone in this bustling restaurant. All you can hear is yourself slowly chewing the sinful food. Your face will warm up with a facial expression like you did something naughty. The next few minutes were a blur. I remember nodding my head and occasionally and saying, "I agree or your right." Also, I stole my wife's biscuit to wipe out the remaining hollandaise sauce. Basically, I was being a horrible husband and a terrible uncle. Who cares. It was my selfish moment. If you can't tell, I loved it! If I lived her, it would be my go to spot. I hope you feel the same way. read more

Oh my gash!!! Finally I found a place were the food looks very beautiful, fresh, cute and Tastes Very good!! I love the breakfast here. Very reasonable price. My cappuccino was very good 7 out of 10! I wish the cup would be a little bigger for that price. Inside was very laude noise from the kitchen so we choose to sit outside. And it was great. Elvie's was our favorite stop in Jackson! This cute brunch spot was packed and only had a few tables on the patio. While several of their breakfast items were a bit oily, we finished every bite. My personal favorite was the duck fat hashbrown, which was the perfect balance of crispy potatoes and runny egg topped with hollandaise sauce. We also tried the breakfast poutine, pork belly and grits, and Muffuletta (from the lunch menu - very meat heavy so would not recommend). What type of magic is this? I had only one night in Jackson on my way from Dallas to Atlanta, and I specifically chose where I stayed so I could wake up and try Elvie's. Best decision! I was able to walk over on a Tuesday morning and get one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. I don't say that lightly. My only regret is I took a pic of my boyfriend's meal - the Duck Fat Hashbrown, which was delicious and he loved - but didn't snap a pic of my slice of heaven - the Mushroom Madame. I was on the fence about my order but me-oh-my am I glad I went with it. I'll be dreaming of that dish for a while. I also ordered their home fries on a whim. I say "on a whim" because I'm usually disappointed by home fries. Not by these, which were perfectly crispy and made best friends with my egg yolk I now know I have to stop in Jackson again because I must try Elvie's dinner. And I also would love to check out the neighboring Good Bar. Does this sound like a love letter? It is. And thank you to the staff as well. They were kind, patient and helpful with suggestions. That is, besides homemade Southern cuisine prepared by my family! I was headed to one of my favorite pit stops, Kiefer's, and passed by Elvie's and decided to give it a try based on Yelp reviews. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I had a sangria, which was prepared perfectly and had a hint of ginger. My brunch plate was chicken and biscuit. The chicken was well seasoned and crispy and the biscuit was the best I've had. Moist and warm and buttery. The honey spread was also scrumptious. I opted for the grits and they were yummy as well. So this is my first time in Jackson Mississippi and I'm a brunch type of person. The pictures got me in, the taste and service made me an immediate fan. The atmosphere there is so chill and you really feel that southern comfort. We had the best waiter ever. Jehrod made sure we had everything we needed.
