We ordered a drink, two appetizers, and two entrees which all came out quickly. The food was delicious. I'm not a big Bree fan, but the Bree on the honey toast was excellent. My osso bucco was tender and the sides paired very nicely. My wife told the waitress that she was a pescatarian and proceeded to order the "poussin" thinking it was fish ("poisson"). Turns out "poussin" is a French word for a young chicken. I ate both entrees, and my wife proceeded to get the redfish. The owner was nice enough to refund the poussin after the confusion. My wife and I wish Elvie's would open a location in Dallas. We stayed a night in Jackson and chose Elvie's based on reviews. Everything starting with perfect coffee followed by an Elveretta Omelette and a stack of "Fluffy" Pancakes with fresh blueberries and real maple syrup - a great start for our day. We came because of the great reviews and were disappointed. 3 different waitresses waited on our table at different times. I ordered lunch burger well done. It came absolutely raw, barely browned. The wife ordered the Redfish and it was not bad. They brought my burger back after my wife had finished eating. The burger was ok . Fries were very good to be fair. Atmosphere was ok. I've taken a week before responding because the experience was so bizarre, but now feel it is important to share. Essentially, we came in for our first time with a 5:00pm reservation. They were not very busy with empty tables inside and outside and 4 people sitting at bar. Ordered cocktails and then appetizers and glasses of sparkling. The glasses of sparkling took much longer to get than should have. Lots of servers just standing around. After we finished two Appetizers we asked for tastes of glasses of wine, and that was where it started going downhill. It was 6pm and we had decided on our entrees. The server came over and we thought she was about to take our order and totally out of the blue she said our table has another reservation coming in at 715 and we needed to be done. And I looked at my watch - it was 605. It wasn't just what she said but how she said it that was disturbing. Clearly she was frustrated that we were taking so long. But with only entrees left we weren't going to need another hour or more.. In fact we had another engagement at 7! So I just said we will end it there and asked to speak to the manager, which the server again didn't like. I counted 16 people in the restaurant and still multiple empty tables. The manager came over and also had a bit of an attitude saying when I made the reservation there should have been notice of time limit. That wasn't my point. If it was such a big deal they should have stated up front, and if they wanted to be in charge of the timing to that extent than just force us to order everything at once. For these prices we should be able to enjoy ourselves at our pace, though. And, again they weren't even that busy! The manager came back, and said she was taking care of our bill, and I offered to still tip the server to which the manager replied in a haughty tone that wasn't necessary as they fully compensate their employees. She also said that one bad experience shouldn't define a restaurant, to which I admittedly in smart-alek fashion said this did not live up to its reputation for awards. And that was how it ended. Walked up to Manship and still had time to order more drinks and appetizers before leaving at 650. And so we will stick to Manship from now on! The bar overall and wine menu are much better there anyway. We also were frequent Mayflower patrons and this has us concerned about its future. read more

I'd like to start this review off by saying the food that we had in the tasting menu was amazing! We especially loved the pork belly and sweet potato dish. Complements to the chef on great food. We were so excited to come to this restaurant and celebrate 10 years together. What was disappointing was how long it took for us to get each course. Also we were sat at a table where I faced the door to the kitchen. So every time the door was opened, bright fluorescent lights shown in my eyes. It wouldn't have been so bad but since it was a dimly lit restaurant, it was just a lot more noticeable (also we were there for 2 1/2 hours so you can imagine it happened a lot). The seat my husband was in was sat near or right on top of a floor vent. He didn't mention it while we were there but after we left he said that he was very cold the whole time. The restaurant is beautiful. The dim lighting is nice. But the restaurant was very loud and we couldn't understand anything our waiter was telling us about our tasting courses because of this. We also did not receive a menu to look at as our courses were being brought out to us so a lot of the times we weren't 100% sure on what we were eating. Our waiter did wear a mask the whole time and we do appreciate that. I don't think that had anything to do with us not being able to hear him. We came with friends and we basically kind of had to yell at each other to hear each other the whole time we were there. I have had tasting menus many times before, and it was not what we expected for the price that we paid. With a tasting menu you just expect to have great food and a great experience all rolled into one. So for us that was just disappointing. For a six course tasting menu we were there for 2 1/2 hours. I don't know if this is just growing pains or they were busier than normal but we will seriously have to consider whether or not we want to spend our time and money there again. read more

I had an absolutely terrible experience at Elvie's. I was seated at the back of the restaurant, tucked in a corner with a full view of the bathroom. I'm not the only reviewer of color who has commented on being seated in this undesirable location. There were several open tables available and I did make a reservation for that evening. I ordered a cocktail, appetizer, salad and an entree. The pasta dish I ordered was extremely salty and I politely told my waitress. She was dismissive and told me it was the Parmesan cheese. I'm familiar with the taste and impact of Parmesan cheese and I told her unfortunately, the dish was just too salty for me to eat. She removed the plate and took it to the kitchen. She returned a few minutes later and told me the cook said he didn't add salt to the pasta and then she handed me the check for my dinner. The check included the pasta I didn't eat. She didn't offer a remedy or replacement. I won't be returning. read more

Elvie's was good but the service time was around 15 minutes before you were even greeted by your server. Once someone took your order it was about 30 min until we received our food. The charcuterie board was AHHH MAZING!! The entrees... that's where they failed. I order redfish and it tasted like someone squeezed 20 lemons on top. One friend ordered a steak and she complained it was half fat. We finished with dessert. Let me tell you... that Espresso pudding was the STAR!! I'll certainly be returning for cocktails and dessert. Stopped here for lunch. First off, it's so cute inside. Absolutely adorable. Anyway, the food was delicious. The chicken sandwich was phenomenal. The chicken breast was like the size of my face lol! The bread was soft & yummy too. I'm also weirdly obsessed with their Caesar salad. Complimented the sandwich perfectly. Also Be prepared to parallel park. Bread will only come out with the plate. I'm sorry , but I thought I'm the customer who is paying for this . After waiting for 30 minutes, they bring out the food and I wanted a refill for my coffee, but the waiter was no where to be found. Finally I asked another lady who was bringing the food out for the table next to mine if I could get a refill for my coffee and she was nice to bring me more coffee. They serve their coffee in small cups , so if you like coffee you might want to bring your own mug. Terrible service and I drove 12 miles to come out and try this out place. I've always had great meals. I think the food is great. My last visit, on Nov 6, was, frankly, not great. My food dropped a solid 10 minutes after the rest of the table. When I mentioned it to my waitress and asked if they had an expo, the manager came to speak. She (who apparently served as expo) was incredibly defensive, curt, and dismissive. She described how long it took to make a biscuit said she was sorry I was disappointed (not apologizing for her error) and before I could speak, she immediately walked away. Look, I understand food can get delayed... perhaps she felt that I was looking for a comp (I'd have flatly refused a comp if she offered) but the way the manager handled this really left a terrible impression. I went back and looked, and my family has spent nearly $1000 here over the past 18 months... when we didn't have to during a pandemic. It's doubtful we'll return now, which is a same. There are better ways to run a restaurant. Be nice, apologize, empathize, and fix the issue. That's all anyone wants. I didn't get that at my last visit. read more

We had brunch at Elvie's yesterday. It was my choice because I could not wait to order the Citron dessert again. We ordered Duck Fat Hashbrowns and the Hashtag Fry and Elvaretta omelets. Best omelets ever. Bacon, fried oysters, hollandaise!! Heaven! Cheese grits-the bomb! I could have licked the plates if I were a plate licking kind of person. I'm not, but I seriously considered it. The Boozy Coffee was also a delicious addition to the breakfast. Try the Cereal milk punch. Elvie's mixologist is a mix-master. The Citron dessert was the perfect light finish to our breakfast. My friends and I constantly had to wave down our waitress to order or get a refill on drinks and when she walked by the table she would just give a side eye look and keep walking never really interacting or asking how the meal was. I got the stake and it tasted like a burned burger and I wished it was better seasoned and the fries that came with it were slightly soggy, but the sauce you get to dip them did make it better and the steak (you had to ask for the sauce). The only thing I really liked out of my order was the bread and butter. Have lived here for 6 months now and first time eating here. This is my favorite restaurant in Jackson ! So so good. The fish was cooked perfectly . The dishes were interesting and so tasty... and the desert omg... the absolute best. This place did not disappoint.
