Always fresh and delicious and service is excellent! We are vegan and have been 3 times, each time without calling ahead. We have always been accommodated with an equally appealing option to those with us. They usually have a vegetarian option that can be made vegan, but on one occasion had them make a dish just for us! I'd like to start this review off by saying the food that we had in the tasting menu was amazing! We especially loved the pork belly and sweet potato dish. Complements to the chef on great food. We were so excited to come to this restaurant and celebrate 10 years together. What was disappointing was how long it took for us to get each course. Also we were sat at a table where I faced the door to the kitchen. So every time the door was opened, bright fluorescent lights shown in my eyes. It wouldn't have been so bad but since it was a dimly lit restaurant, it was just a lot more noticeable (also we were there for 2 1/2 hours so you can imagine it happened a lot). The seat my husband was in was sat near or right on top of a floor vent. He didn't mention it while we were there but after we left he said that he was very cold the whole time. The restaurant is beautiful. The dim lighting is nice. But the restaurant was very loud and we couldn't understand anything our waiter was telling us about our tasting courses because of this. We also did not receive a menu to look at as our courses were being brought out to us so a lot of the times we weren't 100% sure on what we were eating. Our waiter did wear a mask the whole time and we do appreciate that. I don't think that had anything to do with us not being able to hear him. We came with friends and we basically kind of had to yell at each other to hear each other the whole time we were there. I have had tasting menus many times before, and it was not what we expected for the price that we paid. With a tasting menu you just expect to have great food and a great experience all rolled into one. So for us that was just disappointing. For a six course tasting menu we were there for 2 1/2 hours. I don't know if this is just growing pains or they were busier than normal but we will seriously have to consider whether or not we want to spend our time and money there again. read more

From the design of the restaurant to the thoughtful plating, Elvie's is quite a wonderful experience. Mixing classic Southern fare with a more modern approach can be risky, but in the case of this place, it's done superbly. The place was nice and had a good vibe, but the service was not the best. My friends and I constantly had to wave down our waitress to order or get a refill on drinks and when she walked by the table she would just give a side eye look and keep walking never really interacting or asking how the meal was. I got the stake and it tasted like a burned burger and I wished it was better seasoned and the fries that came with it were slightly soggy, but the sauce you get to dip them did make it better and the steak (you had to ask for the sauce). The only thing I really liked out of my order was the bread and butter. Every girls night we try to plan an outing a new restaurant. Somewhere we all have never been. Tonight at was Elvie's. Service was spectacular! Cocktails were top notch. The charcuterie board was AHHH MAZING!! The entrees... that's where they failed. I order redfish and it tasted like someone squeezed 20 lemons on top. One friend ordered a steak and she complained it was half fat. We finished with dessert. Let me tell you... that Espresso pudding was the STAR!! I'll certainly be returning for cocktails and dessert. Bread will only come out with the plate. I'm sorry , but I thought I'm the customer who is paying for this . After waiting for 30 minutes, they bring out the food and I wanted a refill for my coffee, but the waiter was no where to be found. Finally I asked another lady who was bringing the food out for the table next to mine if I could get a refill for my coffee and she was nice to bring me more coffee. They serve their coffee in small cups , so if you like coffee you might want to bring your own mug. Terrible service and I drove 12 miles to come out and try this out place. I've always had great meals. I think the food is great. My last visit, on Nov 6, was, frankly, not great. My food dropped a solid 10 minutes after the rest of the table. When I mentioned it to my waitress and asked if they had an expo, the manager came to speak. She (who apparently served as expo) was incredibly defensive, curt, and dismissive. She described how long it took to make a biscuit said she was sorry I was disappointed (not apologizing for her error) and before I could speak, she immediately walked away. Look, I understand food can get delayed... perhaps she felt that I was looking for a comp (I'd have flatly refused a comp if she offered) but the way the manager handled this really left a terrible impression. I went back and looked, and my family has spent nearly $1000 here over the past 18 months... when we didn't have to during a pandemic. It's doubtful we'll return now, which is a same. There are better ways to run a restaurant. Be nice, apologize, empathize, and fix the issue. That's all anyone wants. I didn't get that at my last visit. read more

Have lived here for 6 months now and first time eating here. This is my favorite restaurant in Jackson ! So so good. The fish was cooked perfectly . The dishes were interesting and so tasty... and the desert omg... the absolute best. This place did not disappoint. Only thing that I did not love was the red zin wine , preferred the cab merlot blend. The inside of the restaurant makes you feel like you're not in Mississippi. We had brunch at Elvie's yesterday. It was my choice because I could not wait to order the Citron dessert again. We ordered Duck Fat Hashbrowns and the Hashtag Fry and Elvaretta omelets. Best omelets ever. Bacon, fried oysters, hollandaise!! Heaven! Cheese grits-the bomb! I could have licked the plates if I were a plate licking kind of person. I'm not, but I seriously considered it. The Boozy Coffee was also a delicious addition to the breakfast. Try the Cereal milk punch. Elvie's mixologist is a mix-master. The Citron dessert was the perfect light finish to our breakfast. The weight of the cheese was more than the weight of hollandaise (possibly one and a half ounces) which I'm assuming is what makes it poutine? Brisket was great potatoes were great. We're on a 10 day trip throughout the South and, after eating hotel breakfasts for the past several days, were looking forward to a real meal. We found Elvie's on Yelp. It looked good so we thought we'd give it a try. The hostess who seated us was not rude but not particularly friendly either. She sat us and immediately went back to standing at the hostess station, which was approximately 5 feet from our table. We sat at the table for 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us, offering to get us drinks or take our order, say hello or good morning, etc. This is all while the rest of the patrons were being served and/or multiple restaurant staff stood around talking to each other, the hostess standing 5 feet from us at the hostess station, etc. We finally left, with no one acknowledging us on our way out either. The food that everyone else was eating looked good, it's disappointing we didn't get a chance to try it. read more

In fairness, I'm a certified Curmudgeon so I haven't been back since a poor service experience during the first month they were open. The food was tepid and order served completely out of sequence. (Probably a waiter issue). Adult beverages were in small glasses with BIG prices (imagine grandma's little juice glasses). Small space with lots of tables packed-in and constant movement with servers and patrons all trying to squeeze by, brushing up against you and jostling your arms while your trying to properly manage silverware. They couldn't help it...the table arrangement was awkward at best. Premium prices for a less than premium experience.
