Work somehow brought me to Jackson, Mississippi. As I scoured Yelp for spots to eat, Elvie's stood out. They came up on multiple recommendation lists as a place for great food in a cute restaurant atmosphere. We were so pleased to enjoy brunch here. First off, our server was such a gem. He was incredibly kind and provided standout service. Upon his recommendation, we ordered the duck fat hashbrown. It was a rich and decadent dish with crispy potatoes, eggs, bacon and covered in sauce! I was able to get my eggs scrambled although they usually come sunny side up. It was incredible delicious! Quick lunch with my son. Although his dad and I visit often, it had been a while since I brought him here, so I wanted to treat him to one of my favorite spots in the city. Overall Rating: (4.5/5)So close to perfection. As someone who's constantly recommending Elvie's to everyone, here's my one small critique: If the Duck Fat Fries aren't available as the side with the Steak Frites, I'd love the option to substitute them--or, at the very least, not be charged extra for a side of garlic aioli to enjoy with the fries. For an entrée that's already on the pricier side ($$$$), that little touch would go a long way. That said, thank you for now accepting brunch reservations, keeping Happy Hour alive, and consistently delivering exceptional service and outstanding food. We went for brunch on Saturday- Sat at the chefs bar - Food and service were excellent - menu items seem simple but they are done beautifully. Smash burger was special - with a perfect fried egg. Served with fried potatoes, hot crisp and perfectly salted. During a recent visit to Jackson, I wanted to try the Michelin Guide's recommended restaurants - on top of being recommend by Michelin, someone I know who is familiar with Jackson also recommended Elvie's. Elvie's is located in the trendy Manship area, which is home to many popular Jackson dining establishments. The restaurant is in a renovated home, and has a homey feel. The staff were extremely friendly and had that warm southern charm. Food was great, they served a nice little amuse bouche, and we ordered the bread which was absolutely delicious, I had the swordfish which was excellent, and my partner ordered the steak frites - the fries were plentiful, but the steak is what lowered the rating of the restaurant for us. We ordered medium rare, but unlike a true steak frites, the steak was sliced too thick for the type of cut, and I would say the meat was almost undercooked and quite tough - my partner couldn't finish the steak. I would have given the restaurant an excellent, but the preparation of the steak took some points off. Overall though, we did enjoy it, and I would go back if given the opportunity. read more

I absolutely love restaurants that have a unique charm to them, rather than a commercialized building. Elvie's is unique to me because, the restaurant at some point was a home/office. Upon entering there's a bar, followed by an open kitchen. There are plenty of seating, available in the dining area or at the bar tops. It gets pretty busy here. You would think the service would suffer. But the quality of the service was amazing. Grayce was so pleasant, and suggested so many great recommendations. Elvie's is a good spot for brunch in the Belhaven community. I ordered the chicken biscuit and blackberry Paloma - enjoyed both. The hot honey on the biscuit was delish. My friend ordered the breakfast smashburger and it was . I definitely recommend the smashburger. Service - Great. Our food and drinks came out pretty fast. Had my husband take a crazy detour on the way to Florida to come here because a few years back it was soooo good. Unfortunately, this time it was awful even after spending $500 because we have 3 kiddos. The entire service was 4 hours long n we thought it would be a quick stop, maybe an hour max. All the steak frites were awful, a tiny piece of steak with the majority of it being fries. The steak was so chewy n hard to swallow. One was completely raw n they had to recook, the fish special had no flavor. The oysters had a weird taste, the pasta was ok... n dessert was eh. Basically, do not go out of your way for this place. We looked on YELP and found Elvie's and decided to give it a shot! We're so glad we did! The warm, friendly greeting set the tone for a very hospitable experience. We perused the menu and soon the three of us, decided to order the pancakes, French classic omelet with sides of bacon and sausage (for extra protein), and a fried chicken biscuit with a side of potatoes. I would give the food five stars, the ambiance 4 stars, and the service 3 stars which gives an overall rating of four stars. I ordered a shrimp cocktail, a specialty drink called the Saint Valentine, and the chef's board. The chef's board is a fancy charcuterie style dish where the chef chooses the meats and it varies based on when you come in. I thought the meat selection was good and I really liked the pecan jam it comes with. My shrimp were juicy and tasty. The person I was with didn't like the menu too much and only ordered fries. The ambiance is nice because it's in a trendy part of town and they have a nice bar area and the lighting is just right. The reason why I only give service three stars is for a few reason. Firstly, the host sat me at the bar and I was waiting several minutes to be given a menu. I thought the people behind the bar would give me one. Then I saw the host sat a couple people beside me and he gave them menus... even though I hadn't been offered one. I had to ask the host to give me menus. Also I was bothered because I ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and it wasn't given to me before my meal. I noticed it sitting on the counter (uncomfortably placed beside a used cup) and I asked for it. They did not give it to me because they said I needed to wait for my friend's fries to be done. I had to stare at my shrimp for 10-15 minutes just sitting on the counter while I was hungry because they wouldn't just hand it to me. I don't think I would come here again. read more

You might walk past it on the sidewalk, if you aren't looking for Elvie's. Crowded on this Saturday at lunch. We happily sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. The plates being put up for service were beautiful. The staff seemed to move like a well-oiled machine, and service was prompt and friendly. Pricing was fair, for quality. We enjoyed (red) Bloody Marys and the Smashburger and Hangtown Fry omelet. We recommend all of these items. Delicious!! Seasonings perfect so don't worry that there's no salt and pepper on the table. The omelet is French-style, rolled and creamy. The fried oysters were crisp-crust and hot. I look forward to returning and trying more items! read more

Like others have said, we wonder how this place got Michelin recognition. The food is mediocre at best. We've tried brunch, lunch and dinner twice and always left disappointed. I was slightly annoyed that I couldn't have a Bloody Mary at dinner (they serve those in the mornings). So is there a time lock on the zing zang bottle?! lol Didn't understand that at all. My friend ordered a glass of wine off the happy hour list. After happy hour she ask for another glass. Server said no that it was just for happy hour. One of my favorites for the shrimp and grits! The roux has an authentic Cajun flavor and all of the spices and seasoning are balanced perfectly. Listed in the Michelin Guide, the food I received was under seasoned and over priced. I'm in Jackson for work once a year for work and this was one of my first stops. I had to ask for salt. They actually don't have salt and pepper shakers, so they gave me the salt and pepper on a plate. Sat at the Chef's counter about a month ago. One of the most memorable meals I've ever had. I got the special, which was a seafood plate. Oysters; on point. Shrimp; on point... Dish; everything I could've wished for. The vibe at the Chef's counter was incredible. During the meal, he gave me little snacks and talked in a conversational manner that made me feel welcome. During the meal, we talked about how I want to go into food service, and after the meal, the Chef took me back into the kitchen and showed me around. Truly amazing. During a day stroll, I decided to visit this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation, and I was certainly not disappointed. It lived up to all the hype and awards I've read about. Being a fan of both boudin and escargot, I was thrilled to find they had combined these two for a limited time, and they were phenomenal, to say the least. A very southern cozy vibe especially at the bar. I sampled an array of cocktails, but my favorite was the Negroni served "IN" ice. The cocktail arrived in a glass with an ice ball and a small hammer. Initially, I was a bit confused but pleasantly intrigued. I was instructed to crack the ice to access my drink. After a few taps, the ice shattered, and the cocktail flowed out elegantly as the ice pieces danced to a smooth stop. We had a great meal on our visit. Absolutely loved everything that we put in our pudgy little mouths! We arrive to find a wait for tables but were able to slide right up to the bar on the left where the cooks line and expo are. This made for a birds eye view of the crew as they prepared the food for the restaurant full of patrons. Most people would probably hate the view, but I loved it. It was awesome to watch them assemble the various entrees. I had Churchill's breakfast to drink and loved it. I see why he was such a cool Prez now! Tonight marked our 7th visit to Elvie's since moving to Jackson in July '24. It quickly became one of our top dining spots, and until now, every experience had been a clear 5-star. We arrived at 6:30 pm on a Wednesday, were warmly greeted, and promptly seated. We ordered our usual apps--duck fat fries and beef tartare--both excellent as always. After finishing, we ordered entrees: pork chop for my husband and the amberjack & risotto special for me. As the restaurant filled, we noticed that tables seated after us had already received their entrees while we were still waiting. When our food arrived (about 25 minutes later), my husband's pork chop looked phenomenal, but my risotto was clearly off--soupy and undercooked, with grains of rice that crunched in my teeth. I politely pointed this out to our server, who agreed it looked off and took it back to be corrected. She separated my amberjack so I could enjoy it while waiting. When the risotto returned, it was fully cooked but even runnier than before--almost like soup. Though I tried to eat a few bites, it was unappetizing. Our server checked in, and not wanting to seem difficult, I hesitantly said it was okay. When the manager later asked if it was better, we admitted, "not exactly... just an off night." She replied, "our chef likes to prepare risotto a bit on the al dente side," which felt dismissive--this wasn't al dente, it was initially crunchy and then overly runny. Our total was $140 (without dessert or cocktails). We love Elvie's and plan to return, hoping this was just an outlier. However, we'd appreciate issues being handled with a bit more care in the future. read more

Met a friend for lunch at Elvie's yesterday. Was seated promptly and greeted by our server within 2 minutes. That's where good service for us ended. Our server purposely wouldn't look our way when we were trying to get her attention. Refills didn't happen until our food arrived and she forgot to put my friends salad and request for mayo in and she was almost done eating when it finally arrived. Not to mention I saw her assisting another server while she had the salad in her hand before delivering it to our table. I've never experienced such bad service here before and hated it since it was my friend's first time there. It wouldn't have been an issue except I noticed she took very good care of other tables. I ordered the burger with a caesar salad and she got the chicken sandwich (which I told her had good reviews). Her sandwich was very dark and she said the brine lacked flavor to her. She enjoyed her salad, as did I. I wish they sold that oyster dressing in bottles...it's that good. I enjoyed my burger. Asked for it cooked medium and that's how it came out. The Elvie sauce was very good. It really accompanied the beef flavor well. I will definitely go back as I like the food at Elvie's. I just hope I get a different server next go around. read more

Another 5/5 dining experience! Elvie's has a become a mandatory stop any time I'm in Jackson visiting family. We were seated at the "chef's counter" facing the kitchen, which I enjoyed. Tonight's meal started with Jackson Jewel oysters, tuna carpaccio, the Oysters Elveretta, and some delicious French bread with onion butter. Entrees were the Duck Two Ways for me and the Quail Chasseur for my friend. Drinks included a dirty martini, a gin-based seasonal holiday drink called The Ghost of Christmas Past, and a "dealer's choice" martini. Particular highlights were the gem salad, pork cheek agnolotti (special), and the redfish almondine. The seasonal drinks were also wonderful, as was the citron souffle. I highly recommend this place for breakfast. They did a phenomenal job in interior design. So if you like to share trendy places, this is one for sure. But the food was soooo good. The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. And speaking of citrus, their whip cream for their pancakes has a light, airy citrus flavor that takes so good. My husband got the Duck Fat Hashbrowns and loved it. I got the Breakfast Poutine and it was delicious. Mine especially was very filling. This place is definitely a solid 3.5, but I couldn't take it all the way to a 4. We were seated quickly despite a crowd. Our waitress may have been having an off day, but she just wasn't very attentive and made several errors throughout the meal. They didn't have some items that feel like they'd be typical of a full service restaurant (lemonade, malt vinegar). The food was good, but not so great that I'd race to come back.
