I love the library lounge, when I seen it in December of 2024 on TikTok I believe I knew I had to go fast forward I've been to this establishment 4 or 5 since then and enjoyed every bit of... the staff the drinks the live piano player I love everything especially being able to see that chandelier just gorgeous. I came in to celebrate my divorce, However my last experience wasn't the best, I had been bragging to my best friend about this place for months just for almost every step was annoying. 1. We was standing at the door for about 6 minutes without a hello (I didn't mind until the next guest got greeted and seated within seconds almost) 2. It was a hair on my best friends Brussels sprouts 3. Her double pork chop was not cooked all the way through , and at this point we was just ready to go. We had dinner here on a Friday evening. They have a creative cocktail menu. I had the Eudora Welty- a tasty vodka cucumber mix. Enjoyed the butternut squash humus as an appetizer. The walnut crusted salmon was a delicious entree. Service was a tad slow as a rehearsal dinner was held inside at the event space. Second time here in about a year or two. First experience was plagued with slow service. Most recent experience (Tuesday, August 13, 2024) was terrific. Had the grilled watermelon salad and a ribeye. Both were delicious. My server was fantastic. Great little spot with a terrific courtyard. The ambiance was fantastic. The food not so much. The waitresses didn't have a clue what the entrees were. I ordered the short ribs, these were very big fatty ribs. Not good. It is really hard to get a 1 or 2 star from me, but here it is! This is small little place and we made a Yelp reservation for our group of 6, that system was pretty slick to use. When HH & I arrived we were seated at a reserved table, our friends got a bit lost and showed up about 15 min late. When we arrived the waitress (Payton) brought our water, however it took her a long time to come back and attend to the other 4 in our party. We all are in town for a convention, each of from different states (TN, SC, AZ). We had not seen each other in over 2 years so we thought Payton was just giving us time to chat... turns out it was a sign of service to come. When we were ordering I first made it clear that I'm allergic to Bell & chili peppers and was confident that it wasn't in my Pesto Gnocchi. Well... she was wrong! Though she said she was still noting it on the pad she was ordering with. Our friends ordered the Pimento Cheese Beignet and all laughed it was more like a Pimento Cheese Hushpuppy, my dear HH said they were good & savory. When the food finally arrived the kitchen staff had switched veggie order on two friends plates. I looked and smelled somewhat closely at my plate, I took a small taste without being fully careful of the pesto mix. (I use a prepared pesto at home that doesn't have any peppers so I guess my defenses were down) . WRONG! The kitchen staff use a pesto with a lot of crushed red peppers!!!! What happened next was the height of poor service and LEADERSHIP. The waitress tried to 'argue' that peppers were in my dish, big mistake young lady, never argue with your guests. Having been a waitress I have my training so I speak from experience. Our water went dry often, we felt ignored and when my replacement dish arrived I had no silverware to eat with, and started eating the asparagus with my fingers!!! Our ER nurse friend got up and hunted down some utensils for me. During my allergic reaction, luckily one of our friends had some Benadryl (I was so glad another friend was an ER nurse), so I didn't have to use my allergy pin from our car. The allergic reaction is not fun! Through the course of events the service and care were not shown. When my replacement dish FINALLY arrived it was much smaller and LONG after our friends had eaten, they were ready to leave when my food arrived (NINE pm) , remember we got there just before 6:30. When the bill eventually arrived, get this, she informed HH (my hungry hubby) that she gave us a (50%) "DISCOUNT" on my dish (mind blown)!!! I spoke to the owner and was disappointed that he too lacks true compassion, and never really comprehended that an ambulance might have been needed!! Leadership is everything for a restaurant! Regarding our friends dishes they were pretty pleased but had a hard time eating due to worrying about me. We were out the door about 9:30, with me still drugged up on Benadryl with a semi closed throat and fat tongue. We will not be back, and everyone we encounter at our convention will hear that they should not either. The only reason I gave a second star is because the others did like their food. Beware if you have any allergies with this restaurant! read more

The food and atmosphere was great as always. The only thing keeping me from a 5 star review was the service this visit. We got to our table at 7:00 (which was our reservation time) and didn't leave till after 10:00. We watched other tables come and go, so not sure why it was taking our service so long. Then to cap it off, we ordered a couple desserts and after waiting for them about 20-25 minutes, the waiter tells us, "I'm sorry, we won't be able to serve your desserts tonight", then just walks away, no explanation or anything. It was a really odd experience, never complained or had any issues other than waiting so long, but we were enjoying our company, so we let it go, but by the time we left, it was like, what happened and why did things take so long and what was with the desserts? read more

Wow, what a great Sunday brunch. 1908 is one of the last restaurants in the Jackson area that I had yet to try on my list on my list of restaurants to try. I wish I had ventured here sooner. We were worried that we wouldn't be able to be seated as you can make reservations thru the app. I called instead and they were fully available an hour before on a reservation. They have a nice selection of brunch and southern lunch options on their buffet. This isn't a Golden Corral style buffet either. I tried to sample a variety of what they had. I really enjoyed the redfish that had a creamy sauce on it. The vegetables options were fresh and had a great flavor. I really liked the potatoes. They also had an omelette and waffle station with someone slicing prime rib. The one thing I didn't try that I wish I had was the fried chicken. The gumbo could of used a little bit of spice. I sampled a couple of the deserts and would have to say the bread pudding was my favorite. The restaurant is in a beautiful building and the inside is just as classy. They had a man playing the piano that we enjoyed listening to. You are looking at 20 dollars a person plus tax and tip for the buffet and in my opinion it was well worth it. read more

My party and I dined at 1908 Provisions on August 2, 2024. We were a large party (12) so some issues were expected. Reservations were made a month in advance and confirmed the week of. We were seated in the private dinning area, which was perfect. They were also hosting a wedding rehearsal dinner in the main dining area. Our server was great and really tried hard. Our dishes all came out at different times, which is not a big deal, except some people were finished with their meals before others received theirs. Several dishes came out cold and not cooked to order. Our party stays at the hotel every August and enjoys the experience of dining where we are staying. This is the second year in a row that our dining experience has been less than satisfactory. read more

Good Sunday brunch spot, with $5 bloody mary and mimosa specials. Lots of choices on the buffet,-- make your first trip to the soup and salad table on the left. Last Sunday, the Seafood Soup was buttery, smooth, and full of shrimp. The main two tables have a variety of chicken, fish, and vegetable dishes. Off to the right is the omelet & waffle station, and also juicy prime rib. Nothing made my taste buds sing, though. I can't complain when I have to add salt, because I'd prefer that to 'too-salty'. Save room for dessert! A variety of pies, bread pudding, and my favorite- creme brulee with fresh berries. Service was pleasantly cheerful. Live entertainment, a plus. How have I not known about how fabulous this place and all the cocktail rooms are?! My father, sister and I took a quick peek at all the lovely rooms downstairs including a charming library complete with a full bar and several tables. There was a sunroom with two long tables for community seating. The restaurant is upscale and has a contemporary feel with a long bar area. It almost seemed like a resort to me! They have an outdoor patio with several tables as well several larger rooms for entertaining. The inn has been a historical landmark of Jackson for many years. It was such a treat to see the recent renovations. Each room has a different feel. Since I'm originally from Jackson and have family here, I haven't had a need to stay in the rooms. However, I will be introducing my in laws to the inn when they come to town. Finally, the food at 1908 was delicious! We split several items including the crab cakes with jicama slaw, kale salad, butcher's cut (beef tenderloin) and the red fish with a side of grits. The menu changes every week but there are several staple items that remain on the menu like the red fish. The menu is inspired by California cuisine yet keeping in line with southern flavors. Service was excellent. I can't wait to come back to 1908 and spend more time there. I highly recommend a trip over to the cocktail lounge and 1908 - a good time guaranteed at the fairview! read more

We went here for Valentine's dinner. The avocado bread appetizer is literally toasted Wonderbread with avocado on top. I could have made it at home. However, the burger and drinks were delicious. 1908 Provisions, located in the historic Fairview Inn, is one of my favorite date night stops. Not only is the food selection diverse and flavorful, but the atmosphere is great to-boot. I can't say I've had the best, or the worst service from the staff there, but the management and staff are generally very pleasant and thankful you've stopped by. The food has never disappointed, and you can always close the night in the Library Lounge, adjacent to the restaurant. The Fairview Inn, located in Belhaven, is definitely one of the greatest places to hang out in Jackson. Whether you're grabbing drinks at the Library Lounge or just taking in the views from their spacious front porch, this place is a must-visit for both residents and out-of-town visitors alike. Now, with the introduction of 1908 Provisions, I have even more reason to visit one of my favorite buildings in town. I was a big fan of Sophia's, the restaurant that was here before 1908, so I was understandably nervous to hear it was being replaced. After dining at 1908 Provisions just once, though, all my worries were assuaged. The menu is what you would describe as "fancy southern," by which I mean there's lots of fried stuff but you don't have to feel guilty about it because they serve it with cloth napkins. Everything is suuuuper delicious. I've been for lunch, dinner, and brunch. For lunch, it's a great place to go for a business lunch or bring an out of town guest. For dinner, it's a fantastic date spot. And for brunch, it's perfect for groups. Brunch is served buffet style and there's an omelette station which I love. Located inside a gorgeous old inn in the heart of Belhaven, the setting really can't be beat. This is a place everyone should check out! read more

The ambiance is the best I've seen in Jackso, MS thus far. Perfect natural lighting and the accompaniment of a real piano playing in the background really brought it all together. The prime rib was excellent. Creamy potatoes weren't hot, but they would have tasted great if they were. Mimosas are awesome!! Sarah was an excellent server. Will definitely return.
