Amazing food! Great employees. Highly recommend the green enchilada dish. It appears to be the only restaurant the local Hispanic community eats. read more

Food was decent 6/10 Service was kind of bad I'm not Latin or Mexican, can't speak the language, but few of the waitresses did speak English. I wish i was offered more choices, as I was lost in front of the menu. I didn't feel very welcomed. Given the quality of the ingredients if the service was better, this would be a more popular restaurant. read more

This was a find! Authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices and friendly service. My fajitas were the best I've had in a very long time. It's casual and the food came quickly. Perfect after a long day of skiing. Happy we found you El Metate! Gracias. read more

I'm going to be as accurate in this review as possible. If you are in a hurry, this restaurant is not for you. The service and service workers here are awful. A table of 9 was waiting to be sat and two tables were open to seat 2. It was just my girlfriend and I so we figured we could get one of the smaller tables because the party of 9 told us they were just waiting for a few tables to open up to accommodate their party size and that we could definitely go infront of them for a smaller table. The service workers were very rude to both me and my girlfriend when we asked about it and they insisted the larger party needed to be sat first. It took forever to get our food but I will say, when we did, it was the most outstanding Mexican food we'd ever had in the U.S. If you can get past the rudeness and you have the time, the food is worth it. As much as I'd like to give this restaurant 1 star because how poorly we were treated, I cannot. The chefs in the back know exactly what they are doing and I would walk over 2 miles of nails to eat it again. Terrible service, spectacular food. read more

We were visiting from Arizona and decided to try this restaurant. We are so glad we did! This restaurant is as authentic as it gets! From a previous review that called this restaurant "Tex-Mex" hasn't got a clue. It's authentic Mexican food. read more

El Metate - Huevos Rancheros - Mexican Near Me - Jackson, Wyoming

The food was hot and smelled really delicious and really fresh and the people that worked there are responsible and respectful.

We were craving mexican food after a week long of traveling the states and was told Jackson was the place to have it. I've heard so much about Jackson but this was my first time in town and I loved it. People were so nice. We stumbled upon this place after visiting Lucky's. Workers had recommended this place for Mexican food. They were right about one thing. All the mexicans were here. We were so excited to have tacos and tortillas! It did fall short of what we have back home (California), but it was better than nothing. We were not used to the style of food here, as we found it to be more Tex Mex. The molcajete is worth it! For $27 it's supposedly feeds up to 4 people but my father in law killed it by himself! I shared one with my bf along with 4 tacos. I did appreciate that they had hand made tortillas. It really makes the difference! They have fair prices for the this town, as other places are very overpriced. Service was quick and the waitresses were very attentive. read more

El Metate - Authentic Mexican food. - Mexican Near Me - Jackson, Wyoming

We decided to try this spot when our regular spot was closed. Sometimes a bit hesitant in trying new places, but by the time we finished our meal the place was packed with a line out the door. Down right possibly THE best Mexican food we have ever had. Being from Southern California we have our fair share! Delicious flavor, the food was (temp) hot, (I hate when my food arrives cold) and this nice little slice of carne asada came with. A bit spicy for me, I don't do spice well (but in this case didn't let that stop me, it was just so good); and my husband raved about how flavorful the food was and loved the spice. Definitely where the locals go. As a couple who eats out about 3x a week, and this being our second Summer in Jackson Hole - it's absolutely at the top of our dining repertoire. read more

El Metate - Chicken Enchiladas - Mexican Near Me - Jackson, Wyoming

Food is great very reasonable and big portions. Service was excellent. What a great family run place!!

$34 for a lunch for two including two Coronas! The food was fantastic! We had the beef burrito, cheese enchiladas, chips and guacamole and a side of sour cream. The chips were freshly fried and warm, so delicious. The guacamole had a little kick to it but not too much. The beef burrito was so flavorful! We will definitely be back for the quality food and amazing price point in Jackson. My only complaint is it is cold in the restaurant. We noticed all of the heat vents in the ceiling were covered with Saran Wrap. So not sure if the story there but it wouldn't keep us away from a future visit! read more

Good, cheap, simple Mexican food. Absolutely nothing special inside. Kind of a hole in a wall. But food was decent.

Very authentic, homemade, Mexican food! I highly recommend, do not miss this place. We got cheese enchiladas with rice and beans, it was amazing. Everyone around is said their food was good as well and it looked delicious. Also nice people and quick service. read more

Burritos and tortas are nice! Prices are so good in comparison of any other restaurant in town. Place doesnt look that great and service can be improved. But overoll you get good food at a good price. read more

Went in alone awhile back and waited patiently to be seated, was watching while at least 3 groups of 2 or more that came in after me were seated. (Total of 30 minutes) Was quite clear to me that it was because I was white, and they didn't speak English so chose not to challenge themselves to communicate. They (hostess and servers) looked at me multiple times and acted like I didn't exist. As a local I WILL NOT be returning and am steering everyone away that I can. Just remember, you all choose to create the segregation, not us. read more

Best authentic Mexican food we have ever tasted. Tiny place next to Jackson Laundromat so you may be tempted to walk on by, don't. I had shrimp fajitas and my husband had several field different tacos ( beef, chicken and pork). Their flour tortillas are homemade and you can taste the difference. They had a spicy red sauce and my husband liked it so much they gave him a cup to go. Friendly staff and if all the locals go there you know it's a winner. read more

Food was amazing but at the cost of everything else, no one spoke a lick on English, and they don't clean the tables.

This place has potential, but their customer service was terrible. Our server looked mad and had no problem showing it. She took our order and when we asked questions she had mad faces as if we were bothering her. The food and ambiance was okay. read more

I've been Mexican for a long time and during that time I've known authentic Mexican Food. Being from California driving to Idaho from Wyoming I came across this little gem. Solid SoCal good Mexican food. First Mexican food place I've found that can hang with San Diego. Pork chop torta was outstanding. Moist & flavorful. Also tried the tostadas. Shredded chicken was moist and very tender. They know how to cook here. Ambience is meh, but you don't eat ambiance. food is perfect. read more

The food was delicious and authentic. They had two hot sauces, green and red that complimented the molcajete that my husband and I shared with a pile of tortillas. Our daughter had carne asada street tacos that she loved. The service was great the waitress was friendly and was mostly Spanish speaking but communication wasn't an issue. Ambiance was good with mariachi music playing in the background, soccer on TV and Spanish speaking families enjoying each others company in a relaxed setting. read more

Probably the best Mexican food in Jackson. If the customers are Mexicans, you know it will be authentic--the best surprise in Jackson. I don't know, might come back for dinner. read more

We were staying at the lodge next door and ate at the steakhouse our first night, second night we were tired and just wanted quick casual bite to eat. We each ordered carne asada tacos, they were out of pork already. They brought out chips and salsa. The chips were a thicker crunchy type chip, which were tasty. The crushed tomato based salsa was really good. It was our favorite. Bright, fresh tasting, and a little spicy. When the tacos came, our nice server brought out the green and orange hot sauce. She warned us that the orange one was really spicy, so we only did a quick taste. It was very hot-hotter than we enjoy. So, we stuck to the green sauce and the tomato salsa. We even took some salsa to go. All for $21 dollars before tip. We got stuffed and woke up the next morning still talking about how delicious everything was. We had to leave the next day, so we couldn't/t go back, bet we would have in a heartbeat. It will be on our list to eat there every day next time we go to Jackson. read more

Great Mexican food! Quality big servings! You could totally share the quesadillas or burritos! They even have corn quesadillas yummy!

Were doing some laundry at the laundromat nextdoor and got hungry for lunch so thought we'd check this place out. Wow! Fantastic authentic Mexican food! We got some tacos and a burrito and there was plenty of food to go between two of us. I couldn't finish the burrito it was so big and full of delicious flavor! The burrito comes with guac (awesome) and salsa and filled so full of (chicken, for me), rice, cheese and it's soooo yummy. Service was great and it wasn't busy when we went in around noon. Go check it out if you're in the area! read more

Wow! This is a hidden gem - hands down the best Mexican food in JH! Delicious daily house made refresca (horchata) was awesome, maybe the best chips and guacamole ever, huaraches were delicious, mushroom quesadilla was killer. Can't be beat! read more

Absolutely excellent. In the top 5 tacos I've had in my life. I tried a number of tacos here - chicken, steak, and Al pastor - and all of them were top notch. Chicken was my favorite. This is true, authentic Mexican and lots of locals eating here so you know it's good. The red hot sauce that came on the side was super spicy and met my spice level needs. Staff were very friendly, service was prompt and the food was a great value! I wish we had discovered this place earlier in our visit, but we'll definitely be back next time we are in Jackson Hole. read more

We were misled by the positive reviews and chose to look past the rough interior. It was downhill from the chips and salsa. They were somehow over cooked, undercooked and way too thick... The food had no flavor what so ever and the quesadilla wasn't even cooked through. With so many options in town, I'd suggest you look somewhere else. read more

Do you appreciate great, truly authentic Mexican food? This is the place, the tampiquena was excellent, and the Molcajete (for two, or one if you're really hungry or on Keto) is tremendous. The tortillas are plentiful and handmade. A couple of notes - they don't bring you chips and salsa the minute you sit down (or at all), tables can be a little close, there is no candlelight or ambient music, service is a little hit or miss but friendly. NOT a place for date night probably. But...If you're REALLY a foodie (e.g. the food is why you're here) this is the place for you. If not, I'd truly suggest takeout (and they are very efficient with takeout) because it's that good, you'll be sorry you missed it. So good we went back two days later, and we only had 3 nights in town. read more

Really really good Mexican food - very authentic We had burritos and enchiladas which were really tasty and reasonably priced. A bit of an English barrier but you know it's authentic! read more

This gets 4 stars because of the authenticity of the Mexican food. Unfortunately, they do not give you everything on the menu. For example, on 2 separate occasions I ordered a burrito and NEVER got sour cream (not even on the side). I would HIGHLY recommend that you get this food to go. They are not practicing ANY social distancing in this restaurant. Both times the restaurant was packed wall to wall with people. If you expect your waitstaff to wear a mask, this is not the place for you. There was one waitress (waiting on tables and taking to go orders) that did not wear a mask on both occasions. read more

Visiting from CA and we wanted to eat a good meal was a bit nervous not knowing if this was going to be authentic Mexican food being Mexican and from CA I know what legit Mexican food is lol. This place is a hole in the wall but so good!!!!! The staff was super nice and attentive. The food was really good but they give you huge portions like I mean huge! My friend got a torta and it was the size of the whole plate. My husband got a huarache it was also the size of the whole plate and they make the huarache base from scratch . Come here and eat it's so good! read more

Very very very good food. I was a little skeptical walking in. I ordered 3 chicken tacos with avocado and a side of rice. Chicken was all white meat and cooked perfectly. Tortillas were what made the taco, all homemade, fresh and soft. Rice was probably one of the best Mexican rice dishes I've ever had. The only thing that grossed me out about this place was the lack of soap in the bathroom, I'll just have to trust the have a bottle of hand sanitizer in the back for the workers I will definitely he returning! read more

This place needs more reviews so here yah go. Hard to find authentic mexican in Jackson with reasonable prices. Jackson loves to price gauge the food industry, so paying for authentic mexican at 5 backs a taco feels like theft. Fortunately this place doesnt do that. Staff seems friendly and family inspired. Food is pretty nice and much more affordable than any other mexican place I can find in Jackson. Prices are still high for the mexican Im used to paying but because they are so competitive, ill take it as a win win for El Metate. Definitely a local spot, and one I will be returning too. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience! Great authentic Mexican food. Terrific service. Reasonable prices. First hint that you're in a good Mexican restaurant -- there were more local hispanic workers eating there than tourists! One of our group has a shell-fish allergy and our waitress (and kitchen staff) went way above and beyond to make sure her meal was prepared safely. Very much appreciated. Do yourself a favor and eat here! read more
