However, the nice folks at the bistro were able to serve me without a reservation (restaurant was about 2/3 full). The food was a little high but not crazy for a sit down restaurant and given I wasn't all that hungry, it was the perfect amount of food. They serve fresh bread with butter spread before your entree and it is so, so lovely! I ended up getting one of their appetizer salads with fresh fruit on a bed of roast veg, and I got two drinks - the "Rose French 75" ($16 - has alcohol) and "the inversion" ($11 - mocktail version of the "Jackson fog" cocktail). I can genuinely say both drinks but particularly the inversion were two of the best drinks I've had; the flavor was perfectly sweet, just a bit floral, and distinct from any other drink I've had (which is something I love to experience!). They paired great with the salad and the bread. They were also sweet enough I didn't even need dessert (although the huckleberry cheesecake and the bread pudding were tempting). Nice bloody mary. Rabbit Ravioli - 6.5/10 Stingy portion of meat. Ravioli is just okay. The fried carrot nest was fun but it was too much for the serving. Our waitress tried to take our order almost immediately after being seated. She visited few times after ordering. While the previous restaurants mentioned are a bit more upscale, Gather is on the more casual side. It's located right at the base of Snow King mountain so you can look out at the mountain. Most of all - the food here was amazing. We are from NYC and are self proclaimed "foodies" - so we don't say it lightly when we say that the chef/menu here was super eclectic in the best way possible. He infused flavors from all different cuisines from Mediterranean to Korean -- without anything feeling overpoweringly ethnic. The pork buns were a 10 - unlike most restaurants that use a chunk of pork belly, it seemed like they cubed pork from the rib and it tasted more like eating a delicious spare rib from a Chinese restaurant - without the fat you often get in a traditional pork belly bun. The Fresno peppers accented the sweetness of the buns brilliantly. For entree my wife had the elk bolognese which was superb. The papardelle had a perfect chew (maybe made in house?) and the meat / sauce itself was wonderful. The real showstopper here though was the pork ribeye. I've had plenty of good pork chops but this was something completely different. This cut and its preparation was unbelievably tender and juicy - it melts in your mouth like a piece of wagyu steak. I truly did not think you could achieve this level of tenderness from a pork. The flavors around it were incredible and it was genuinely one of the best dishes I've ever had - anywhere - period. Kudos to the chef for this masterful creation. If you even marginally like pork - please do yourself a favor and get this!! What we had: -Fleeting Smile Zero Proof drink, delicious, and iced tea with simple syrup to sweeten -Meatballs alla Nonna - the meatballs themselves were fantastic, and the red sauce tasted a lot like MY homemade red sauce! We were very happy with this, to say the least. -Salumi & Formaggi - favorite meat and cheese plate we've ever had. Everything was perfectly selected and paired together on the board. Could not have been more pleased. -Charred broccolini - cooked perfectly to a bright and vibrant color, accompanied by a spicy Calabrian chili aioli. I feel like I always need something green with my dinner and this was an excellent addition to the table. -Rye Cavatelli - great chew on the fresh cavatelli. I watched the PBS spotlight on Glorietta and Wyoming Heritage Grains a few days prior and it made it all the more meaningful to order this dish and taste the hard work and care that goes into the flour and the pasta. We don't expect free things. Really. But it was a bit off-putting that if we said no to free alcohol, specifically, that the offer was entirely retracted. But he also didn't seem to understand any of my comments or small jokes and we had to repeat ourselves in every interaction. He tried to be "nice" but it came off as disingenuous. While the food is elevated it doesn't feel pretentious and maintains a laid back local's feel despite alot of tourists stopping by. While we love cocktails and were impressed with the menu, we were in a wine mood. They have a petite selection of wines by the glass but there's plenty of bottles to choose from. For appetizers we were in the mood for light and refreshing, so the bartender recommended the caesar salad with fresh anchovies. It was perfect for us to share and we loved it. He also mentioned the pasta was house made, so we knew we had to try it. We ordered the fusilli which was so flavorful in spite of being a very simple dish. Our neighbors sitting next to us ordered it first and said it was some of the best they've ever had and they're from NY and have high standards. For our main entree we shared the trout which is from Idaho. I am not that familiar with trout and always forget it's not a white fish but similar to salmon in looks (pink in color) and taste.
