It came pre-cut, so the kiddo didn't have to handle a huge steak knife to cut it--which was nice. Both came with a generous serving of golden French fries. Fresh cut or frozen, these fries were good! Either a second ramekin of ketchup or a larger one is definitely needed for the amount of fries served. I had the burger. It wasn't fancy--just cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onions--but it was a thick patty with fluffy bun with lots of flavor. It also came with a ton of golden fries. My mom had the BLT that didn't skimp on the pork belly. I wish the stores sold thick cut bacon like that. She said it was delicious. Hubby had the lobster roll. The kids brought the purple potato chips were the neatest thing (they were good, too). The lobster roll was perfectly dressed--not too much and not too skimpy--and tasted surprisingly fresh. This place is a little more upscale than some of the other places we've eaten at this week. We were welcomed as we were--shorts and tees. Other guests were dressed casually, not overly fancy. The adjacent museum was a cool place to visit, too. It housed 3 restored Navy planes that were neat to see. For a Sunday night near closing and off-peak season, the wait was longer than I expected, about 45 minutes. If you're able to make reservation in advance, I would do it. We started off with Crispy Brussels as appetizer. The white balsamic vinaigrette was so delicious and the dried cranberries was an unexpected nice touch to the dish. I loved our entrée - Pork Shank! I'm glad I shared it with my sister. The portion was generous. The carrot puree, red rice & lentils complimented the pork so effortlessly. The pork was tendered and flavorful. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the dish. Delicious! Huckleberry is a regional favorite and a thing in Wyoming because they grow wild in the area. I had to try the Huckleberry Cosmo. You go to the cooler and pick your beverage, take it to a bar in the back of the store where they open and pour it in the proper glass. Best value I have even seen, a Celebrator for $3. The staff is incredible and the clientele extremely classy. If you are ever in Idaho Falls this is a must go to!!!

You know that look that melted mozzarella gets when it's been sitting a while? Like that. The meatball itself was fairly good, red sauce was meh. -Pappardelle with pork and beef bolognese - unimpressed with the flavor of the meat or sauce and it was served barely lukewarm The bad: -Lemon chicken was overcooked - blackened and dry. Left on a few minutes too long for sure. I've spatchcocked chicken and cooked it perfectly like this dozens of times, and can only assume this one dried out because it was absolutely tiny. Like Cornish game hen size. And no lemon flavor, unless you count squeezing lemon on it yourself. But that is not lemon chicken. -Rigatoni with burrata and basil - we added Italian sausage to this and I am not sure what they put in there but it was sliced smoked sausage of some kind that was NOT good. But worse, it was cold. Everything in the bowl was lukewarm to cold which I almost tolerated because I was hungry, but I drew the line when I bit into a piece of sausage that felt like it just came out of the refrigerator. When we told the server, he said he would get us new ones, which he did, but those came out with burrata in cups on the side. Was this supposed to be a jab at me saying it was cold? Like they thought the burrata was what made it cold so they put it on the side? Regardless, it totally sucked trying to mix pieces of it back into the pasta - which was STILL lukewarm. It was like mixing in cheese curds. Terrible. And bottom line? The pasta and vodka sauce were not even close to good enough to justify this frustration. -The service - first night was nice, he was warm and fairly attentive, and offered us split bowls of pasta since he knew we were sharing. Second night was awful. It took 15 minutes to get water and order apps and another 5 to get bread. We said we were sharing the pasta and the chicken but not only did they not split it for us, it took two extra requests to get an extra bowl and large spoon to split the pasta and then an extra plate and knife to split the chicken. And those were all from flagging down the runner because our server was a ghost. Didn't introduce himself, took our order, and we basically never saw him again. Overall, a mixed bag. I might come here again out of convenience (i.e., while staying at Teton Mountain Lodge next door). But I will adjust my expectations accordingly.

We also met a couple who were heading to Yellowstone, and we were able to give them advice since we had been there two days before. Then we all shared stories about Grand Teton. This place reminds me of the TV show Cheers. A neighborhood bar where everyone knows your name, you can meet new people, and where great conversations happen.

Finally I got the grilled cheese and added steak. It was really delicious but would have made a lot more sense to cut the steak into pieces instead of a full filet in the middle of the sandwich. Also small detail but there were little bee traps that really helped with the pests on the patio.

While I loved the cafe, which had a dining room with a great view of the peaceful elk refuge area and covered outdoor seating with the same wonderful view, our experience was not all that wonderful or peaceful. Unfortunately we were seated next to a very very large table of mostly female young adults who had no regard for the others in the cafe. They were so loud and distracting that it was impossible to enjoy our lunch let alone have a conversation amongst ourselves. The wait staff also had a hard time hearing our order. I believe the management should have either asked them to respect the others in the cafe and lower their conversations or not have seated anyone around them. Here's a thought, set them up outside. While the acoustics in the cafe did make the situation worse, management should really think about their other patrons. It is difficult to say many complimentary things about the food or the service when the overall experience was not good.
