Omg! This placs is amazing! We moved to the neighborhood about a year and a half ago, and came here from time to time. I'd always just pop in for a beer and a Ruben sandwich, which was great. A great spot to grab a beer. My inlaws came for the world cup, and my father in law decided this was the spot. So we have gone everyday while they are visitimg. We started trying the food. The food is shockingly good. It's all homemade, and an excellent price. (I assumed it would be all reheated frozen food, which is absolutely not the case.) Candidly, you cannot beat the quality or the price. A place that 100% has stayed true to it's roots. I would choose the food here over many of the other puns in adams and mills village. read more

Rare occasion I am not in the mood for an Erie Pub experience. One of the few places I will not only drive out of my way for but way out of my way. A special trip would not be a waste of time either. Food is the best, the staff can read the customer better than anywhere and provide the best service anywhere almost without the spoken word. Ambiance? Went for a quick lunch and sat in a booth, across from the bar. The food and prices were great. The service, from the bartender, was good and friendly. The bathroom was actually pretty clean. I had a very good pastrami sandwich with French Fries and my guest had a nice Irish Stew. Would definitely recommend and return. read more

My wife and I stepped in for lunch because it was recommended as a "landmark" place to go! We got our obligatory Guinness (expertly poured by the way) from our friendly bartender and soaked up the classic Boston pub. Celebrities from over the years have their pictures on the wall as well as appropriate memorabilia from many years in the business. Because we asked about the Notre Dame symbols and what not, the owner (George Stinson?) came over and introduced himself. What a fun character. Family bought the place in the sixties and he owns/runs it now! He was roommates at ND with Ted Robinson (TV broadcaster), knew Joe Montana, and tutored Bill Laimbeer to a high of 2.0! Ha! Anyway, had the "Sean's" chicken sandwich and wife had the turkey BLT--both were great. Great fun. Good atmosphere. Cold beer. Great pub food. What else could you want? read more

Love the Eire We found the Eire Pub by accident. Just looking for a place to eat on our way to Logan. Happy accident. It calls itself a "Mens Bar" and certainly it was full of men on a Sunday afternoon, but my wife felt welcome there. A great collection of draft beers, including Guiness, of course. I miss living in Dorchester for one reason, and one reason only: The Eire. This is one of the few remaining real old-school Boston bahhs at which people are actually welcome. The bartenders wear shirts and ties and aprons, and pull your pints like professionals. The sandwiches are outrageously huge, and you pick them up yourself from the bar if you're sitting at a table. The $1.00 hot dogs are actually worth eating - freshly steamed behind the bar, and with all the fixings, plus a draft beer for as little as 3 bucks - you got a dog and a beahh fa unda fi-dollas. The Eire is a true old school, blue color Boston bar. This is the place that people think of when they think of the working class Boston Irish. If you are looking for Craft beer, and Microbrews this is not the place for you, but if you like things simple, and want a true Guinness this is the place. Where else in Boston can you get a Guiness for less than $5? The Eire is one of the last of its kind, many Blue Color Boston dive bars have been taken over by Hipsters. Not this place, not yet at least. It's important for neighborhoods to have neighborhood bars full of neighborhood people having neighborhood conversation. Yes, the outside says "Gentleman's Bar - Ladies Invited", well..I'm a lady and I was invited and THANK YOU! But all kidding aside, they didn't let women in till 1984, but now they don't even bat an eye. You know there are the regulars who kinda give the look, but if you smile they smile right back and go back to betting on the Sox game. The food they have is a short menu of sandwiches that seem simple, but they pack a punch. I saw a man order a pastrami sandwich and it was the size of his head!! It looked delicious! and it's only $5! Oh, is that still a bit on the steep side? No worries. Hot dogs are $1! Steamed dogs with your choice of mustard, ketchup, relish, or sauerkraut. I couldn't resist...and I'm so glad I didn't! It seems a bit odd, having a hot dog and a Guinness, but it works oh so perfectly at The Eire Pub. This place is a piece of history in itself. It's dimly lit (but not creepy dark), wood paneled, and cozy. The bar is located smack dab in the center of the room, as it should be, and the bartenders gladly pour you a Guinness while wearing a shirt and tie. Our bartender was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the bar and the patrons who have been there. They are extremely proud of their history and their character as well as their home town. We went the week after the tragic Boston Marathon Bombings and their chalkboard was covered with words of encouragement for the city as well as a message to Martin Richard, the little boy who was killed. This place is not "in Dorcester", it IS Dorcester. It is Boston in every sense of what this city stands for. read more

8:00 On a Thursday Night, my friends and I walk in, a tiny drunk Irishman on a stool at the bar swivels around an says "Get out of here you High School Kids." I am 24 years old and I love this place. I don't think it's quite fair to call this place a dive because it has far to much character and Bill Clinton has been there, but you can order food and a beer for 5$ so you be the judge. Go on a night where the lobster role is on special and don't disrespect this bars heritage by ordering anything other than a Guinness and you will have a great time. read more

The Eire Pub, in Adams Square, bills itself as "Gentlemen's Bar--Ladies Invited" on the marquee, but it's really more a workingman's pub. It's common to hear lots of authentic brogues as laborers come in after work for a beer and a $1 hot dog. The Eire attracted some attention during the 80's and 90's when it was visited by Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. I used to belong to a gym in Neponset, and I'd stop by after for a thick corned beef sandwich or a steak tips dinner. Across the street, the Greenhills Bakery specializes in Irish-style baked goods (great scones) and offers a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, Irish bacon, Irish sausage, and black and white pudding. read more

One of the best "real" bars in Boston, hasn't changed since 1968 inside and has no plans to do so, nor does it need to. Mostly domestic draught and bottles, usual array of hard stuff. Don't ask for any blender drinks or mojitos or you'll be on yer arse on the sidewalk. The Eire Pub is the quintessential Publick House; plain and simple. The sign and reputation may say "Gentleman's Bar", but my wife and sisters have always felt welcome and were treated with respect. Ladies: fear not. The bar staff are professional, patient, accommodating, knowledgeable, and at times, downright comical, in that famous Irish tongue-in-cheek fashion. Even the ones who were born stateside. When you step inside, the patrons give you a hard look, but it's not in judgement or in a sense of "what are you doing in here?" It's more of way of identifying a friendly or familiar face. You'll feel secure and satisfied to know that there's no "Riff Raff" welcome and typical drunken shenanigans aren't really tolerated. Once you find a seat, you're family. You become part of the banter, and the regulars treat you like you are one too. There's a decent selection of liquor, though it's not necessarily "top shelf". Don't look for a 25 year single malt, or some obscure organic liqueur. Just the basics and essentials. The bottled beer is ice cold and the draft beers are varied, clean, and fresh. Your Guinness is always perfect, so remember: a proper pint takes time. The food menu has expanded in recent years. Their sandwiches, and typical fried pub-fare are worthwhile, with the portions generous and the cost fair. You can still get a steamed hotdog for a dollar, and the bartenders load the condiments on as you order them. It's a well known fact that the boneless chicken fingers (buffalo or plain) are amazing. They are made with premium quality all-white-meat and are fried to perfection, then served up in a hearty pile. Don't be afraid to order an entree for dinner either. Everything is prepared like homemade comfort food. You'll never leave hungry. The atmosphere is bright and clean, with a lot of chatter. The music or television broadcasts are not overly loud, unless there's a big game or a European rivalry football match. If you didn't like "soccer" when you walked in, you'll love it when you walk out. The place is simple but it's no dive. The environment is certainly adequate, but in no way pretentious or trendy. You'll see a grubby Union worker, a three-piece suit wearing businessman, a girl in sweatpants and a hoodie, or even a millennial in skinny jeans. If you are doing the right thing, then you'll be accepted at the "Eire". The large rectangular bar has stools on three sides with a kitchen adjacent to the fourth. The remainder of the space has tables with chairs, and a handful of booths. It is alleged that there's an Irish side and an American side, but I've sat on both never noticed a difference. I think it's just lore from the old days. Which ever door you come in, just find a seat, order a beverage, and remember to bring CASH. No credit cards here. If there's standing room only, the bartenders will always make eye contact to let you know that they'll get to you shortly, and the patrons on the stools will always make room for you to get to your drinks. Bathrooms are always clean and well-stocked with supplies, but space is at a premium. Get in, do your business, get out, and hold the door for the next person. Give respect, get respect. I live on the South Shore, but still drive the 30 minutes to grab a pint and a bite a couple times a month. If I'm heading into or out of downtown Boston, I always find an excuse jump off the Expressway at Morrissey Blvd or Granite Ave and stop in to the Eire Pub. You should too. I stopped by last Wednesday at 1:00 for lunch. I have grown up in Boston but had never been in. It was by far the cleanest Bar Room I've been in. There were about 40 -50 people there construction workers, and suits. Only a couple of women, but you could tell this was the type of place that they wouldn't be bothered. You've got to go up to the bar to order. Service was immediate. I got the Lamb tip special. Lamb tips (a huge portion) french frys (excellent) bread, some hot peppers and a coke. $7.00......The lamb was superb, most of the fat trimmed off. It was excellent excellent excellent. I will be going back in the near future. This place is a bargain hunters dream. read more

I am new to the area with a new job in Dorchester. I heard about the Eire long before I visited, with two Presidents having stopped by there. The place is a classic throwback to the old time mens bars; only now they have numerous flat screen TV's for the news and sports. The bartenders all wear ties, and are very polite, which is a treat. The brew selection is great, and the food is unbelievable; huge pastrami, corned beef, and roast beef sandwiches are sold at low prices (don't tell the owner!!) Women are welcome, and the overall atmosphere is super friendly. read more

I so wanted to love this place. I'm crazy about a good dive bar and love that I can walk here. It definitely is like walking back in time - place hasn't been updated since 1972. I've lived in the neighborhood for almost 10 years and have truly only been for group events (between the church and the wedding). Stopped in on a snowy night for a few drinks and bite to eat. Bartender acted like we were a burden. There was a small local crowd but nothing crazy. You'd expect at least a warm welcome, but nothing. Drinks were small for the price, and sat empty way too long. No offer of menus. I'm a former bartender myself and always appreciate how long that night can be, but this kid acted like we were his worst enemies while he went on chattering with the couple next to us and ignored our empty glasses. It's a shame because we like a good night out and we are very good tippers. read more

I've lived in Boston for over 30 years and though I like pubs had not before tonight ever been to Eire Pub. So I thought I'd go there and give it a try - it's been visited by famous people, after all, and has gotten lots of favorable reviews. I sat at the bar and ordered a bowl of chili, french fires, and a salad. They came all at once and I first tasted the french fries. Edible, but nothing special. The salad was a standard bowl of tasteless iceberg lettuce, garnished with wedges of tasteless tomatoes encircled by slices of tasteless cucumbers and topped with a slice of red onion. And, mind you, served with a packet of Ken's Italian dressing in a plastic pouch(!). The next to be tasted was the chili, topped with a thin slice of what looked like Kraft American cheese (unmelted). I dug in and lifted up a spoonful of watery liquid in which were swimming a few brown beans, a wisp of beef and a few globs of unidentifiable (vegetables?). The mixture was so sickeningly sweet I could eat barely half a bowl before giving up. I ordered a black & tan, not being able to make up my mind from the paltry selection of 11 beers on tap (including Coors, Bud, and Bud Lite). And oh yeah, they do not take credit cards. So, if you want to try out the Eire Pub for yourself, leave your taste buds, your credit card, and your thirst for a variety of craft beers at home. If you want a much better - highly superior - pub experience, head over to Doyle's in Jamaica Plain where the atmosphere is warm and friendly, the menu is extensive (and really good), and the beer includes dozens of fine beers of all kinds. I meet my dad here once in a while for some drinks & that is what i think this place is perfect for. It's a great place to meet up with right after work for a few cheap beers after work. If you ever have to work saturday and get out early i would def come here for a sandwich & some beers. The food is pretty good.
