We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, planned it to arrive when they opened at 9:00 as did other folks. The place filled up fast! We walked in and were greeted and seated right away. The space is open with high ceilings and tall windows. Lots of art on the walls, available for purchase. Service consisted of a few different servers; all were efficient and friendly. We took a bit to figure out what we were ordering but our server was ready when we were. I was leaning towards the Chakchouka but at the last moment decided on El Cerdo - Carnita potato, spinach, corn, jalapeno, and 2 poached eggs covered in tomato-chipotle salsa. Coffee was hot and fresh and kept refilled. When my dish came out, it was so delicious looking! Turns out it tasted so as well! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the combination of all the ingredients mixed well together. I loved the hint of jalapeno throughout. It will be hard not to order this again. The building is a shared space, and the restroom is down a hallway. It was clean and well stocked. They have another location but haven't visited as of yet
I came here for brunch with my Dad, bonus mom and sister because I saw they had a frozen espresso martini, and I have to try it. They had a small weight but nothing too long maybe five minutes and then we were seated. This place is small, but cute and the service was great. I loved the frozen espresso martini and the food was cooked to perfection. Next time I'm home I will visit.
Egg is the perfect name for this Benton Park spot. Eggs as a food staple seem simple and straightforward, but they're almost magical in all of the ways they can be used. From the outside, Egg the restaurant looks unassuming, but the moment you open the door and see the lovely and interesting decor and smell the aromas from the kitchen, you know it is something special as well. The owner is very welcoming, as if he is inviting you to his home, which is lovely. We ordered the Chakchouka with merguez and the ojja with shrimp. Both were completely delicious. I added a turmeric latte, which was unique and so warming. There are so many more items on the menu I want to try, so I know I'll be back soon--but it'll be hard for Mr not to order the ojja again; it was so good!
I'm obsessed with Egg. I frequent both locations. When I am looking for some great food to help me feel happy, Egg is one of the first thoughts that comes in my mind. I love bringing people here. I always get great service and the food comes out fast. There is commonly plenty of room at the bar, if you can't get a table. One thing that I like about this location is the look of the place - it's small, but the artistic nature of it is visually pleasing.
Always a great brunch spot! Love the food and atmosphere. Small menu but they do everything 10/10. You can't go without getting a Benedict... Specifically the pork belly one. It's on top of corn bread and will change your life.
Ask about the special! Shrimp and grits was not on the menu but it was an eggceptional special. The shrimp were cooked perfectly but could use 2 more pieces. It's flavorful and slightly spicy. My first visit but not the last. All the dishes that came out were a big portion. The service was good. There is no cold/ice coffee. They serve alcohol with bar seating. A bit small, not best for a large party. They opened at 9am and full by 10.
Great food. Service was excellent. We got here at about eleven on a Tuesday morning and were seated quickly. The server was attentive and very helpful. Had a salmon omelet, mussels and grits, French toast, and the cornbread Benedict. All of the meals were excellent.
I got brunch at this place recently with a friend on a Sunday morning around 10. She had the mahi-mahi Benedict and I had the cornbread pork belly Benedict. Neither one disappointed. I'm not a big fan of breakfast potatoes but I do love theirs for some reason. Our server was also the bartender and while he wasn't super friendly, he was attentive and took care of everything we needed. The only minus to this place is they don't have a solid host game. When you walk in, no one tends to pay attention or come over to seat you. I walked and waited for a few minutes, then walked up to the bar and asked if bar was open seat seating and he said no sorry though please wait to be seated sign isn't up. He seemed slightly annoyed that I even asked, but I had been standing there for a few minutes and I know he saw me. He immediately said to me at a table, but the people behind me were all still just standing there and he did not even address them. I get it. He was kind of the only one available, but I would at least yell to the people at the front, I'll be right with you so they at least feel acknowledged.
It was so delicious! I can't wait to go back and try something else on menu. It all looked and smelled incredible.
Brunch after Tower grove market. A easy drive from the park. Sign/location a little difficult to see from the street. Cosy seating. Aztec art. Service was friendly and quick with seating, drinks and food. Meals ordered- tostadas, pulled pork hash and French toast. The French toast was fluffy and sweet and a great chase to the more spiced and savory items.
Lovely service from a great server who gave my party a complimentary shot of the good stuff. We came at a great time when it wasn't busy, enjoyed ourselves and the delicious food. Will go again, and again, and again. The Best Brunch Spot in STL
I've loved egg for years! The food genuinely is so good. The menu isn't huge but everything is a big hit. The pancakes are super buttery and I love the fresh fruit. First time trying the cornbread Benedict and it's so flavorful. I love the service. Owner walks around and makes sure everyone is happy.
I rate this place a 3.5. The food is good, just expensive. And the pricing is due to the premium meats. This place seems to be a Tex-Mex BBQ meats spot. I got the grits special and my boyfriend picked el cerdo. My pot roast was delicious, the grits plain but the salsa was good. My boyfriend also liked his food. We both agree that we would've benefited from more salsa. The service was basic but paying over $40 for our food just didn't seem 100% worth it. We didn't even order drinks. My husband and I tried this place and fell in love with the service and food. Bloody Mary's are on point and the food is delicious. Must try. I had a breakfast tostada with veggies and my husband had El Cerdo-Carnitas, potatoes, spinach, corn, jalapeños with 2 poached eggs. We'll definitely be back. read more

Not only is the food real nice but so is the staff ! They were very accommodating for our pretty large dog. What a nice place to stop at during our road trip. Highly recommend this place ! Interior is great as well. We got the pork belly Benedict, shrimp omelette special, and French toast. read more

Great food, and I loved the space. The people (servers and patrons) were all super chill and made for a relaxing Sunday brunch. The biscuits and gravy were more than I could finish. However, the espresso martini went down like water (more than once). read more

Wow. First off, the owner and creator Lasad was our server. Doesn't get more friendly than that. He suggested the El Cerdo & Sautéed Spinach and Avocado corn Bread Benedict. So that's what we ordered. The corn bread as the carb base for the Benedict was an insanely delicious. (He even gave us a piece to take home) The carnitas in the El Cerdo was so juicy and flavorful. And the poached eggs on both dishes were cooked to perfection. What a great find while visiting St. Louis!! read more

Wow oh WOW! What a find. In St. Louis looking for a nice little breakfast spot and we somehow picked the perfect spot. This cute, unassuming place blew away any expectations I had. Wonderful, friendly, and fast service, with food that'll take your tastebuds for a ride. The sautéed spinach and avocado cornbread beneditc was heavenly with the corn bread being some of the best I've ever had. And the El Cerdo, for those of us looking for just a bit more spice and some meat, was absolutely delightful. Will undoubtedly be back next time I find myself in the area. read more

I love this place in Benton Park. It is a breakfast place by day and a rib joint at night. We went during Mardi Gras so we had street parking, nothing like parallel parking on a busy street. The place is bigger than it looks. Menu has a southern and Mexican flair. Coffee was really good service spot on. Grit special was yummy and the cornbread Benedict was good..their potatoes turned out crispy with a nice crunch. Hard to do with potatoes. Overall - 5 Food - 5 Service - 5 Full Belly - priceless read more

My husband and I ordered the pork bell cornbread eggs Benedict. They did not have any salt packets to go. They were nice enough to put some salt and pepper in a napkin. We both like this dish but thought it would have tasted better with a sweeter cornbread and more firm. When I tried to pick up and eat it fell apart. The potatoes that came with it were food. read more

Egg is a wonderful little breakfast joint. I'm so glad we stumbled upon it. The restaurant sits in a little nondescript building along a major thoroughfare. There isn't much signage besides a little sign on the front door so you'll need to be on the look out otherwise if you blink you'll miss it. The food servings are generous and the drinks are not only quite tasty, but also a little potent. I had an eggs benedict that included porkbelly and was served on cornbread. It tasted as good as it sounds. Our service was excellent. There was only a server and a bartender, but they both did a great job working together to make everything go. One quick note, parking is available in a lot next to the building however you can only park in a spot that has a bright green parking bumper. The rest of the spots belong to the restaurant next door, which according to the signs posted, will tow you if you park there. I'm not saying that to scare you, but I just wanted you to be aware. read more
If you're looking for a more eclectic breakfast place South City, Egg may be the place for you. Upon arrival the only strange thing is the parking situation. EGG shares some parking spots in a lot next to Hodak chicken. Egg only has a few spots and Hodak's has the majority of the lot. There are signs all over the place saying you will be towed if you're there to eat at Eggs. Needless to say you don't want to start your meal off worried about being towed. Once inside restaurant, the staff is very accommodating. The restaurant is a mix of industrial and antique American items from the 50s and 60s. It is a bustling restaurant serving up some tasty egg entrees. The menu is somewhat confusing as you don't quite know what you will be getting. Their entrees are different than most restaurants. You can order off the ala carte menu for traditional items such as bacon and eggs. I had two poached eggs over strips of grilled pork on hash. I did not know quite what I was going to receive, however it was excellent. My son had two eggs over tortillas and several other items and they were also excellent. My wife ordered off the ala carte menu and her bacon and eggs came out exactly as it were ordered. Egg is a great place to stop for breakfast. I think you will enjoy your meal, surroundings, and service staff. Oh and back to the parking, the owner came out and confirmed which spots we could park in, as he saw us driving around reading all the signs. Our car was still there when we came out! read more

Was able to go here for my birthday and it was the perfect treat! Even got some leftovers that I ate for lunch and gotta day, they were still just right! Food: I got the Pork Belly Corn Bread Benedict and it was all I ever dreamed it to be. I love cornbread and this batch was soft, moist, and flavorful. The Pork Belly was savory and tender! But, I think my favorite part was actually the side of potatoes with house made ketchup. Love me a good house made ketchup! Service: Looks like at the early time we were there. It was one guy in front of house. He made our mocha latte, which was also delectable, then mostly hung around the bar until we were finished. He was available when we needed something. Atmosphere: Located in Gravois Park, it's of course gonna be a beautiful historic building. One of the things I LOVE about St. Louis! Great set up! Just cute and clean and spacious. I definitely see us coming back. If you want simple but upscale breakfast that is affordable, get down to Egg. read more

We really enjoyed our breakfast at egg. We went to go to the other one but GPS took us here. I got a half order of the biscuits and gravy because I probably wouldn't have been able to eat a full order. My family got the French toast, which they said was big at first but then they ended up eating it all. They also had coffee and staff was excellent about constantly refilling their mugs. I thought the service was really friendly but without being intrusive. The food was amazing. Even the orange juice was extremely fresh. Would definitely come back read more

Breakfast is the one meal I often take for granted, and eGG definitely reminded me of why I need Breakfast in my life. Upon entry, I noticed the aesthetic was quaint and cozy. I'm personally drawn to establishments that are smaller and more contained, Where I can have a simple conversation and not lose my train of thought amid several others. The server was extremely familiar with the menu and was able to assist almost immediately; what's more, is that he was able to suggest a dish that my girlfriend and I equally enjoyed. Note; both may sound a little unorthodox, but both are an absolute must-try. I ordered the Mahi Benedict. My girlfriend ordered the oxtail grits. In the midst of waiting, we ordered Mimosa. The wait time was relatively short, considering the number of patrons. STL feels like an excursion from where I live; however, if given the opportunity to travel for a hearty meal and chill atmosphere, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to return. If you are down in the Saint Louis Area, I highly recommend it. read more
I'll definitely be back to this gem. Ambiance is cool with retro decorations, food was great, drinks were great, and service was good even though we were there during a pretty busy brunch time. Top 5 Best Taste in 2019 Here's the thing, i went to the Egg restaurant, looking to get the pork belly benedict. When i walked in, people around me were talking about this special of the day, muscles on a plate of grits with 2 poached eggs served with 2 pieces of baggette. Ridiculous. Amazing. If i was alone, i would have licked the plate. I'm not exaggerating. I've had plenty of grits from restaurants via shrimp n grits. Top 3 grits IMO. This place, wowzers. 5 stars all day! Debating on whether you should go here? Stop it. Just grab your keys and head out there door, 2200 sarah street. You wont be disappointed. read more

As a small, crowded weekend pop-up inside Spare No Rib, I wasn't convinced that Egg would meet all the brunch hype it's received. ... and when there was a twenty minute wait for a table, I was even more skeptical that it would live up to its reviews. But after 1 bite of food, I finally understood this restaurant's praise. Despite having straightforward dishes like Veggie Hash, Breakfast Tacos, and Eggs Benedict (on cornbread), Egg somehow still manages to take their take their entrees to the next level of brunching. And even though it's pretty difficult to screw up a pan of eggs & sautéed veggies, I think it's also impossible to make breakfast taste as fresh, light, or buttery as Egg manages to with their food. If you're in St. Louis, this breakfast is so worth the wait. read more
Ended up at this restaurant thanks to Yelp! On the edge of Soulard on Gravois west of the Lemp Mansion Egg has also been known as Spare No Rib. This is a breakfast/brunch spot with a Mexican flare. The ambiance is very industrial and bright. It really works for the location and temper of the space. I had the cornbread Benedict with pork belly, and sides of potatoes and chorizo. Washed it down with coffee and a mimosa. The Benedict dish was nearly perfect. Poached eggs on pork belly and a slightly sweet cornbread topped with hollandaise. Just absolutely DELICIOUS. The potatoes were southwestern with onion and red bell pepper and crispy diced. Crunchy and good. The chorizo perfectly complimented the eggs and cornbread and went nicely with the potatoes. Liked the coffee too. Had a bit of chickory flavor it seemed. The staff was friendly and the owner/chef came and chatted with us and was very pleasant. He even discussed horseshoes with us after finding out we came from the Springfield IL, area. He said he's added a horseshoe to his menu in the past and got great feedback on it. Very nice! Wow! Soooo amazing. Hands down best breakfast I've ever had. Never had been here before the server was helpful with explaining the menu. My eggs were poached to perfection and I wish I had someone to personally make me their hollandaise sauce best I've tried. Fresh OJ was delicious. I won't go into detail about the parking situation, just remember this: DO NOT PARK IN HODAK'S SPACES OR HODAK'S WILL LOSE THEIR SH*#. Park in the designated green spaces or on the street and avoid the harassment. Okay, now on to the brunch. We got there at 11 am and were told it would be a 35-40 minute wait. Thankfully drinks were served cheerfully outside during our long wait. Unfortunately after an hour we were still not seated. If we had not approached them to let them know our friend was going to be late for his flight (he's a pilot) then it may have taken even longer. Once we explained our situation they really went the extra mile. Apparently the table we were supposed to have was taking WAY to long to vacate. The host literally pushed tables together and made us a 5 top. The server came over immediately and took our orders. The food then arrived within like 10 minutes! Thank you Egg for making a bad situation much better. That's great customer service. Now for the food. I ordered the Pork Belly Eggs Benedict and a half order of their Brioche French Toast to share. The Benedict is unique in that it's severed over a slightly sweet cornbread instead of an English muffin. I was wary as I'm a true southern gal and don't like any sugar in my cornbread. However there was just a hint of sweetness and it was a nice complement to the savory pork belly. The french toast was AMAZING! It comes loaded with fruit compote and mascarpone cheese...so good! The hot Espresso Martini is to die for folks. Seriously order one...or two! ;-) Overall we had a great experience at Egg despite the wait time hiccups. I'll definitely try it again, but may come earlier to try and avoid the crowds. My only suggestion is that they should consider expanding or moving to a larger location. This would certainly help with the wait times. read more

I love this place! It has a certain charm about it. The staff were attentive. They recommended a side of pork belly with my spinach avocado corn bread egg Benedict. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The breakfast potatoes were very tasty. The flatware was nice. If they can upgrade their silverware, it would be perfect. I definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast or brunch in St Louis. read more

Yum! And YES! This place has a great esthetic and the staff was friendly. I had the Pulled BBQ Hash and it was absolutely delicious. The portions are actually hefty and larger than I expected. The French toast was also rich and decadent and it's not overly sweet which was a plus. Lastly the fresh squeezed juices (yes we tried them both) and the coffee were also great. read more
