Okay. This was actually one of the best brunches of my life. Seriously a MUST try if you are in the area! The owner was walking around doing table greets and was SO nice to everyone! Upon finding out we were from out of town he offered us a small sampling of their topped sweet cornbread. And it was. So. Good.!! My boyfriends mom ended up getting this as her meal she enjoyed it so much! Drink options are pretty standard for brunch. I got the Bloody Mary and my boyfriend got the beermosa. Both were good. Probably would have preferred the beermosa. For my meal I chose to go with the corn bread Benedict's with spinach and avocado. Seriously it was top notch! I wouldn't change anything about it. This place is amazing. We were told there was a wait and I wasn't sure where to stand. My boyfriend had gone to the bar to order us a drink when the owner came up to us, took our drink order, told us where extra seating was, and brought our drinks to us personally. Our server was the owner's son filling in. So nice! The place was decorated really purposefully, with artwork of the owner's son on the wall and records placed around the booths. Wait for 45 minutes to get a table. The waitress then tell us, "oh, I forgot you have that" referring to our newborn. I've never been to a place that has you pay your bill on an iPad with the square technology before! I love it and I wish more places did that! Ample parking around the restaurant! I started with a michelada (I wanted to try a Bloody Mary type drink because some adults like that and discovered it's not for me lol) and followed it up with a hot espresso martini! A simple review from my phone isn't worthy of this establishment - i just made myself breakfast and realized that I'm a horrible cook and Egg was my awakening. So I grabbed my coffee, doubled it, pulled up a chair, and buckled in for a review. I'm salivating as I type this... I'll start with the only downside - the name can make this joint tough to find on your nav. Jot down the address and punch that in and if you've never been to Egg before, it might take a bit to realize that it's a hole-in-the-wall sequel joint in a giant building. Suck it up, park, and prepare. The man, who I can only assume is the owner, instructed us to sit wherever in his unique restaurant and then we peered over the menu. At first I was concerned about the prices...yes, they're all in freedom dollars, but there's a reason you pay after you eat. You won't care. We dabbled in the menu. Cornbread benedict with pork belly, a chorizo breakfast taco, and the Chakchouka. I started with the taco because I was sure that it would be the least impressive of the three things we ordered - I was right...but only because the other two were that freakin' awesome. That taco rocked. It's $6, full of amazingness, and I shoveled it in like a fatty in the pantry. I was glad that my wife didn't want to try any...I didn't give her time to show interest. Then i took a swipe of the benedict. At first just the pork belly. Then just the corn bread. Individually I wasn't amazed - but together, a synergy of flavor and texture erupted. Well. Done. Finally, the Chakchouka. I've never had chakchouka so I had no expectations. But given that the taco and benedict were so good, I wasn't concerned. I can't describe how good it was - one of the top five breakfasts of my life. I know - it sounds strange to eat some weird tomato stew for breakfast, but they bake two eggs on top so it's obviously breakfast. Oh...and the bread. The bread that came with it - perfection. The coffee is strong and fantastic. For food, ordered the Chakchouka with beef and a side of pork belly. The Chakchouka was absolutely delicious. The eggs baked on top were crispy and still a little yolky in the middle. The harissa on top was perfectly spiced and delicious. The pork belly was perfectly cooked and spiced, worth every penny. I can see why people like this place. Walking in I was greeted by a man who serves as the host, waiter and bartender. He told me to sit anywhere so I decided to sit at a table instead of the Bar. The menu is pretty simple, and they also have a la carte items too if you don't like their specials. I got the cornbread benedict because it came with pork belly. My meal came out fast which was great, and there was lots of hollandaise sauce. The cornbread was sweet and moist, and they gave long pieces of pork belly which was a combo of sweet and savory. Only complaint I had was the potatoes which might have been over cooked. They weren't burnt, but they were very dry. Just a minor detail for this incredible meal. This is a bold statement, but this is the best brunch I've had in St. Louis to date. There was a little bit of a wait for Saturday brunch, but it was so worth it. We started with mimosas, and the ratio of champagne to orange juice was perfect, and it was also pretty large. I had the pork belly Benedict, and I was amazed. Didn't love this place as much as I thought I would. My friend recommended I try the pork belly Benedict so of course I tried it because who doesn't love some good pork belly? My favorite part was the poached egg and the sauce on top, but the rest of the dish felt pretty heavy altogether (I knocked out as soon as I got home lol). Their menu showcases their meats and the thoughtful, abundant flavors that cannot be replicated anywhere else in St. Louis. Case in point - I was intrigued by the description of one of their specials of the day - creamy cheese grits topped with barbacoa beef, two eggs, and jalepeno sauce. First off, the barbacoa was fork tender and immensely flavorful. The juices filled up the nooks surrounding my plate. Second, I broke my yokes to messily blend with everything below. As if the combination of these items weren't enough, the homemade sauce made from fresh jalepenos topped it off. I hope you're picturing this - I lived it, and it was delicious. My husband had the popular "chakchouka" - a veggie stew made with fresh harissa with baked eggs and beef. It came with a side of toasts, a perfect companion for this dish. Both dishes were so flavorful that the identity of Egg were immediately seared into our minds. That identity is that they make thoughtful, flavorful, meaty good brunch dishes! They have a fun selection of brunch cocktails and drinks. I went with the beer mimosa (wheat beer with fresh OJ). Oh and the service was excellent and attentive. My husband accidentally kicked the leg of the table and almost disastrously spilled my drink. A ninja server slipped us like 10 extra napkins right away. Egg on Gravois is a hidden gem. I passed the entrance twice attempting to find it but I knew I had to try this restaurant as a local resident recommended it. There was no wait and we were seated immediately on a Saturday at 9 am as a group of 4. Everything is delicious and the cornbread Benedict's have a sweet twist to a classic dish. The mimosas are fresh made with oranges from a juicer. My friends enjoyed their dishes as well which included the Chakchouka and Barbacoa and Grits. This is a must try for brunch in STL! read more

What can I say...I love breakfast and Egg definately didn't disappoint. The atmosphere of the restaurant was spot on and very spacious for being a smaller restaurant. As a first timer the waiter was very informative and very nice but what really gets the 5 stars is the food. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the menu but the complexity of flavors in the food was what got me hooked. I got the carnitas hash and it was so amazing and different from hashes that you would usually get in a regular brunch place. The addition of fresh lime added another wonderful level of flavor to the mix and the tenderness of the carnitas melting in your mouth left me speechless. I cannot say enough good things about Egg, specifically their location on Gravois. When our friends ask us to brunch, this is our suggestion almost every time. I'm a pretty adventurous eater, but there is something about the El Cerdo that I cannot go without ordering it. I recently told my wife, if I had to choose one last meal, it would be the El Cerdo from Egg. The simple hash is highlighted by it's finesse and care from the poached eggs, to the topped salsa, and blanched spinach above a beautiful bed of breakfast potatoes and of course the shining star, the carnitas. Not only is the El Cerdo their shining star, but a myriad of other dishes within their menu do not disappoint. I always get my fair share of sampling done, but I'm reluctant to share my dish! Not only is the food and atmosphere great, but the cocktails they offer are superb. From the Michelada to the Italian Greyhound, you cannot go wrong. Only slight complaint was that everything was a tad too salty. SERVICE: Prompt service and really nice waiter on a Saturday at 11 AM. Did not have to wait very much which is a plus EXPERIENCE: One large main room in the back with more tables in the back, there are many memorabilia around that give the place some charm. There is street parking and lot parking to be found very close by VALUE: $12-15 for most brunch options, coffee will run you $3 and cocktails ~$10.
