Good homestyle cookin' in Boise. This is a large 50s style diner with lots of memorabilia from that era on the walls. We were welcomed in on a holiday weekend afternoon. Plenty of choices on the menu and also includes a senior menu. Since we were out of state visitors, we opted again for a plate including the state's famous potatoes. My choice was the Idaho skillet which was eggs, country potatoes, broccoli (getting the veggies in! Lol), turkey, and cheese. The seasoning was a bit weak but on the table there were salt and pepper shakers, hot sauce, and ketchup available. I added pepper and had ketchup on the side. Tasty and huge portions! Hubby's choice was the pot roast with mashed potatoes. It tried a little bit of his and that is was big plate of comfort food! I tried a little bit of his chowder and that was just OK. As for beverages, the coffee and orange juice were just fine. Service was warm and kind. If visiting in the part of Boise again, we would return for brunch or explore a new spot via yelp. 4 stars!

Egg, sausage & pancakes combo.

Open all day for breakfast which is nice. I took a seat at the counter. Very friendly servers who are kind of entertaining and carry on a constant banter. I ordered the single egg, sausage links, and pancake combo for $11.50. It's a busy place, but the food came fairly quickly. The fried egg was cooked nicely and the sausage links were tasty. The server suggested two single pancakes instead of the plate size which she said was huge. Probably should have had the plate size because the pancakes were thick and absorbed the syrup like sponges. There's nothing wrong with the place. Eddie's is average and a decent spot for breakfast.

This is a great, casual 50s style diner! For the price, I was shocked by how much food I got and the chicken fried steak and eggs were delicious. Food came over so quick and very hot! Great spot!

omelette done right.

Eddie's Diner truly knows how to do breakfast right! I ordered the Western omelette, and it was everything I hoped for - cheesy, gooey, and cooked perfectly. Each bite was flavorful and satisfying, exactly the way I like my omelettes. Alongside, I had coffee, toast with peanut butter, and hashbrowns. The coffee was smooth and kept piping hot, thanks to the attentive waitstaff who ensured my cup never ran dry. My water and juice were also constantly topped off, and the staff seemed to be there the instant I needed anything. Their attention to detail made me feel so well taken care of throughout my meal. Eddie's Diner deserves every one of these five stars for their fantastic food and top-notch service. I'll definitely be back soon for another breakfast that hits all the right notes! The sound of the customers and the conversations was very pleasant and calm, very professional in and out breakfast diner/restaurant.

Car themed diner with friendly staff. Huge restaurant and not too busy, was seated right away. Menu is no frills with standard breakfast options. Only sweet options are pancakes and French toast. Went with the Eggs Benedict. I am always nervous ordering a this at a diner as they don't always know how to poach an egg and the Hollandaise sauce is easy to get wrong. Food arrived and the hollandaise sauce had an orange color that made me nervous. Flavor was good though and the eggs were properly poached. Hashbrowns were good too. Not super impressed with the menu but if you want a giant omelet or a monster sized pancake this is a decent option.

Cheese omelette, hash browns and a HUGE biscuit!

Eddie's Restaurant was recommended to us by the owner of our Airbnb in Boise as being close by and having good food and he was right! We ate there for brunch on Saturday morning and it was a hopping place--but we only had to wait a few minutes. Our server was very efficient if a bit frazzled by the brisk business. The place has an old-timely diner feel with license plates and photos of cars on the walls and we could tell they catered to the local folks, especially veterans. They even had a waiting corner with newspapers. We both ordered omelettes with hash browns and I had toast with mine and my friend had a pancake. The omelette was stuffed with so much ham that I had to take some out, but it and the hash browns and toast tasted great. The coffee was good as well and the prices were very reasonable. It was so good, in fact, that we went there for dinner that night and breakfast the next morning! I had a Philly cheese steak sandwich that night with homemade fries that were delicious; my friend had liver and onions that came with ham and potato soup, mashed potatoes, corn and a roll. She said her liver was a little chewy, but otherwise good and the soup was delicious. Our breakfast the next day was delicious as well; the biscuit I got was the biggest one I've ever seen! The fact that of all the places to eat in Boise, we ate there 3 times: it's worth the trip!

Soup and salad combo

I really wanted to like this place more and I am giving an extra star for the outstanding service we had last night 10/6 at approximately 7:30p and sat near the windows in case the owners read this. I didn't catch her name but she is a gold star for sure. The food however was lack luster at best. I had the club sandwich and it might've been the worst one I have ever had. Mind you the restaurant was absolutely dead so the fact they sloppily put this together is inexcusable. The bacon was left over and not fresh, the romaine soggy had to take it off and the tomatoes you could also tell had been sitting around. Complete disappointment as well as the frozen tater tot's that tasted like they had been cooked and heated multiple times. My wife had the bowl of soup and salad and while they claim the soup is homemade that could be up for question. Wasn't even that hot and the salad was as basic but sad to say but it was the freshest tasting part of the meal. This is sad because this town is lacking places like this. They could kill it based on location and type of food but the key is slowing it down and putting the care back into the food and presentation. They have been around for decades for a reason and would suggest getting back to roots of just that....

Oh, Eddie's restaurant is an old-time favorite. When I moved to Idaho 8 years ago, my sister brought me here, and the dishes are all American breakfast and lunch dishes. Big plates of food. my husband and I came here because we were looking for a place that was open at 6am, and Eddie's was the lucky winner. The inside of the restaurant is all classic and a lot of car plates from everywhere. We ordered the food and it was as delicious as I remembered. I had no complaints it was a traditional American breakfast.

I'm in the parking lot, they were actually closed on thanksgiving which is totally understandable so they could be home with their families.

The food was amazing but the waiter took along time to serve us. I'd recommend, it's worth the wait.

I have been to quite a few joints downtown already. I wasn't dressed the best so heading to Bacon or Tupelo Honey for breakfast would have been a little embarrassing. And I didn't want to deal with parking so after doing a little research, Elmer's was my spot to grab some food. Driving up to the restaurant, there were quite a few cars in the parking lot. What have I been missing out on? This place was poppin! I know Elmer's has been around for a hot minute and as long as I have lived here, I have never been. Seeing that the parking lot was pretty full, I took it as a good sign about my choice of coming here. I was sat at a small table by the fireplace. It's a pretty cozy venue. Bright from all the windows. The fireplace was going so it was nice and toasty. It was a very chill setting. Mariah got some coffee started for me while I was breezing over the menu. They have a little of everything for breakfast and some lunch options. I ordered the Hungry Rancher for breakfast. I should have known that my eyes were bigger than my stomach cause it was a lot of food! You get 3 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 slices of ham, 2 sausage links, hashbrowns and fruit. I also got a side of country gravy and pancake syrup. Gotta have pancake syrup for the sausage links! My eggs were fried hard and were perfect. The sausage links had a nice browning on them which I love. It was paired nicely with the pancake syrup. I ate a couple bites of my hashbrowns with the gravy. The top of the hashbrowns were crispy and golden but the middle part of the hashbrowns were still undercooked. You get a great portion of the hashbrowns which is fantastic but when it's that thick of a portion, the middle of it ends up not cooking all the way through. I ended up taking my ham and bacon home with me. I didn't have enough room to finish my huge plate! The one thing I noticed about this joint were all the older folks here. It was nice seeing them out, socializing, playing card games after their meal and enjoying life. This must be the go to spot for senior citizens. I did feel out of place amongst these fabulous folks but honestly it was fun. They are so chill. No drama. No loud conversations. Everyone was just having a relaxing and fun time. I can hang with these folks any day! It was a fun experience today at Elmer's. The food was hefty and good. The crowd is chill and fun to be around. The venue is comfortable and relaxing. I'm happy I got to grab a meal here in between my appointments. I got to enjoy my meal and wasn't rushed. Mariah did a great job taking care of me. I don't know when I'll be in the area again but I'll be hitting up Elmer's if I am, especially for breakfast.

THAT MUCH FOR A WAFFLE!!! with JUST BUTTER!!!! absolute...INSANITY!!!! I will never go here again. These diners are supposed to be affordable. How does a family eat here? Ok so yes, it's located on Capitol, super close to BSU and basically is downtown....so they will always get the business. But DAMN!! $12 for a waffle!! ONE. WAFFLE!!! just...one! This place is obviously NOT for the locals. It's for the parents of BSU students. They basically know that they can hella over charge and somehow get away with it. Just crazy. Again...it's like a diner. So there is absolutely NO need to be charging what they do. Waitress was very nice tho. Ill give her/this place that much, but yeah...for a restaurant I was excited to try after so many years bc I love old school places like this...I can 100% say...I will never go here again. So when the menu specifically says home-made chicken fried steak I get excited. And it is possible that I came to Merritts with too high expectations. That being said the chicken fried steak was very bland, no flavor. Salt and pepper couldn't save it. The scone was cooked perfectly but whatever honey butter they are using was waxy and not much flavor. My wife also said her omelette just didn't taste right. She also had the Boston shake which was basically just ice cream on top of milkshake, didn't really look or taste like a sundae. She also said the chocolate tasted stale. The service was fine for having few customers. I'm not a huge fan of going to a restaurant and having Dr Pepper in a bottle. So yes, a cup of ice was appreciated. The restaurant itself is what you would expect for a roadside family dinner. It actually added to the excitement of what I expected the food to taste like. There are just so many good breakfast restaurants that I could not give this a 3. I would not come back and I cannot recommend for anybody else. Sorry Merritts.

It's been over 20 years since I have eaten here. How crazy that time has truly flown by so fast…read more Moving to different states, new restaurants that have opened by us or the fact we live across town, just a couple reasons to why I haven't been in. But lucky for me, my husband and I were in the area so of course we had to make our way in for brunch. We showed up 45 minutes til close. There was about a 25 to 30 minute wait. We decided to tough it out and kick it. I did ask if we would still get served since we will be sat towards closing. They said yes so we waited. There would be a wait anywhere else so why leave. I just found it so kind that they would be willing to still take us with the restaurant closing soon. It was busy which makes me so happy. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing a local business thrive. While hanging out, I was admiring the fun antiques that were decorated all over the restaurant. Talk about history and charm to this joint. Vintage cans, old cooking utensils, old school packages of Spam. There's so much history in this little venue. It's truly incredible to look at and appreciate. We were finally sat 20 minutes til closing. We got some coffee and apple juice started while we checked out the menu. After drinks were dropped off, we quickly ordered our food. My husband got chicken fried steak and I got the works omelet without the sausage. I believe they replaced it with extra ham. Food came out rather fast since we were the tail end of the day. And boy did everything look so good! My omelet looked massive. I was starving so I was so happy that it was big! The omelet was stuffed with green peppers, onions, ham, bacon and cheese. I also got a hearty side of hashbrowns. My husband got his country gravy that came with his country fried steak on the side for me. I was able to add it to my hashbrowns and omelet. Country gravy and hashbrowns is a top tier combination. And today's gravy and potatoes was money! My omelet was perfection. The onions and green peppers were nicely sautéed. There was a great amount of ham and bacon. The eggs were nicely cooked! Cheese that was in the middle was nice and melty. I ate the whole thing! Did I regret it later, yes but it was worth it! I finished half of my hashbrowns. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, these hashbrowns were fantastic! And the country gravy made them that much tastier. My husband enjoyed his breakfast. I most definitely enjoyed mine. Service was fabulous. Coffee was hot and always filled. Today's visit was truly fantastic. I heard that this joint is moving to Orchard. I look forward to coming and checking out the new venue. I know I won't be waiting another 20 years to come back. The food and the service was too good not to come back soon. I look forward to another omelet and one of their huge ass cinnamon rolls!
