When I waved off a drink and said something like "I probably shouldn't order what I really want because I haven't eaten yet today", McKenna replied "I'm not here to judge, I'm here for the tips." What a HOOT! I fell in love with her that very moment and promised myself if we go back again we'd ask for her (we didn't make it back during this visit). The pizza was absolutely everything I was hoping for. SOOOOO good. From the first bite at the pointy-end all the way to the crust. If this is what they serve in heaven, I think I'll be fine. Mine was a huge disappointment for these reasons: 1) two microthin slices of tofu. Traditional Bahn Mi are packed with the protein, what ever it is. 2) no pickled veges in the sandwich, not even a sliced onion. Again, a Traditional Bahn Mi has lots of greens and pickled veges. This sandwich had a few carrot strips snd one cilantro leaf! 3) the sauce seemed to be a "doctored up" version of a locally made hot sauce with 2 small sliced jalapeno pieces added. The baguette was good, but I ordered the BahnMi for the full sandwich. I do hope they are more realistic and generous with the meat in a meat Bahn Mi. I had the French dip sandwich with a side of tomato basil soup. The sandwich was delicious and tasted homemade in the best way. The "meat" of the sandwich was seitan. I don't THINK it was a perfect meat replica (but I've never had a real French dip), but it was very flavourful. I loved the flavour and the thick cut of their bread, but it didn't have much structure and fell apart easily as I was eating which made the sandwich very messy. The tomato basil soup was a little different. It was slightly creamy but brothy and a little chunky - not a smooth puree. Again, it tasted great and was nice and light, which was a good contrast to the very rich sandwich. It was a little slow, especially considering they weren't that busy. I didn't really mind since I wasn't on a schedule, but this is something to be aware of - don't come here for a quick meal. Not cheap, but worth it for the quality.
