The Chocolat Bar is a great gift idea because their chocolates are my wife's favorite. I always come here for special occasions, most recently Mother's day. They always wrap it really nicely and my wife was very happy with her gift. Their chocolate barks are amazing, my favorite dark ones are the Green Chili Pistachio and Red Chili Pistachio and the Lemon Lavender with white chocolate. I am happy for their new location, it is a lot brighter and there are more space for them to make the chocolate and for customers. I am just a little sad because they use to be next door to City Peanut shop, which is my favorite store, so I can go to downtown and visit these two places together. Nope, this one is reserved for those with a more distinguished palate, those that appreciates the finer things in life. These chocolates are fancy and deserve to be appreciated. I had to hunt this place down! I tasted a cocktail at a nearby restaurant called Fork and it included a slice of a dried orange dipped into chocolate and I fell in love The cocktail was delicious, but I'll save that for another review. I had to find this local chocolate shop to buy more of those chocolate dipped dried oranges. I know, I know, it doesn't sound very tasty, but IT IS!! A young lady greeted us with a smile and made us feel very welcome as we looked around. I was so happy that I had found the place! Stopped in while strolling the streets of DT Boise and was so happy to find samples! That's right, once you're in they keep you there with samples, and I'm not mad about it. After perusing the case and tasting some chocolate we decided that we'd stop back in later in the day. One store later we decided it was best we went back right away, couldn't risk forgetting or not making it back in time before closing. We ordered a variety of milk and dark chocolates, selecting just a few each was pretty difficult with the great selection they had. My choices (all dark) were the cinnamon drop, orange feather drop, and the extra dark peanut butter patty. Favorite was the orange feather. This is my 3rd Valentine's Day shopping at the Chocolat Bar. I discovered them through a yelp event in 2021 and have since used them for the holiday as well as our anniversary. The chocolates offered have a great variety and are incredible quality. My husband loves the turtles, bourbon truffles, and peanut butter patties. When he gets chocolates for me I always ask for caramels. This year I got several of those as well as a few truffles! The staff are incredible, and the woman who helped me this afternoon was kind, conversational, and very helpful. The shop is cute, but a little crowded with the Valentine's Day rush. This place is awesome! Deeeeeelicious chocolate! Most chocolate shops say none of their stuff is gluten free, so I was pleasantly surprised to find how many GF options there were! They said all the chocolates are prepared separately, not in mass batches for dipping so there isn't cross contamination with the gluten containing chocolates with cookies and such. The flavor is deep and intense without any saccharine overtones. And any added flavors are always so lovely--last time I was in I tried am Aztec truffle (amazing!) and I believe a huckleberry as well. You simply can't go wrong. I'm giving the Chocolate bar 3 starts the chocolate was good just like when I buy at the store with exception to the green chili pistachio which was very spicy. I have had it before and it had a nice balance of chocolate and spice this time was too spicy to eat. The rest of the chocolate was good. The service on the other hand deserves 1 star. It took almost 2 weeks for them to call me after I placed the order on their website but that was after 3 calls to them about my order, and when I did talk to someone I told them of the chocolate wasnt as good as it was I would have cancelled the order, they laughed and said "yes it is good." Pairing food with drink is some kind of novelty over hyped trend I'm consumed by, and will never get enough of. I question how a chocolate store stays in business in one of the most obscenely fit cities that's ever found the pacific northwest. But then I tried their cider and chocolate pairing at first Thursday and realized how empty my life had been until this moment of double dipping the two sinful worlds of alcohol and candy. First the lemon lavender bark, then the Monk's Cafe sour ale. I think I moaned and then immediately left the store.
