In California we have a place that I guess is kind of nationwide now called See's Candies....and I thought oh what a cool name Lee's Candies and I know they have nothing to do with each other but just reminds me of them....I stopped by the store to try out some chocolate which I rarely eat nowadays.... The gal who helped me out was really friendly and helpful.... I have 2 things I recall liking from these shops one is molasses chips... My honest opinion See's is better maybe because it is crunchier and more dense...these seemed to be lighter but they were still good.... This candy store has a very good selection overall, with something for everyone. I purchased two boxes of chocolates -- a truffle box and an assorted box -- and both were made in-house. The chocolates are definitely the highlight: they taste premium, are beautifully made, and feel high quality. They're slightly on the expensive side, but worth it if you want really good chocolate. About half of the store appears to be their in-house chocolates and truffles, while the other half consists of gummies, taffy, and other candies that are sourced from elsewhere. I did ask before buying, so I knew -- but unless you ask, it's not very clear what's made in-house and what isn't. A bit more transparency would be helpful. The gummies I tried were excellent (and I even got a great $1 bundle deal). The taffy, sourced from Salt Lake City, had good flavor but was firmer and more rubbery than the soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture I prefer. Overall, a strong 4 out of 5 stars -- great chocolates and selection, with just a little room for clearer labeling. read more

I've been a long time customer and I love the new store layout and the new truffle flavors. It's nice to see them expand the chocolate options and add candy making classes. I will say that it caught me off-guard not to see an employee up front but they explained the packing and cooking is done in the back so it was a moment before they greeted me. The variety and quality of the chocolate was wonderful. Not only is the product wonderful, the service was amazing. The young man working there was able to give us information of every product they had. 5 stars to you for your wonderful service. The chocolate is good quality and has surprising flavour combinations, such as huckleberry, a spicy one with chilis, orange (with real orange, not like that ball you get in your Christmas stockings), peppermint, cherry cordials, margarita chocolates, one with honeycomb. Lee's Candies is a Boise family-owned and operated candy business that was founded by Lee Nokleby in 1947, using recipes his father developed. Originally located on Jefferson Street, in 1972, Lee's Candies moved to the brand new Vista Village Shopping Center. In July 2024, they opened their second location in downtown Boise, right next door to another great business, City Peanut Shop. In 1983, Lee retired and passed the business onto his son Curtis, who continue to honor the family motto, "Never Change Your Quality." In 2020, Curtis retired and passed the business on to a new family, father and daughter Ken and Katie Fernandez. I have been visiting Lee's Candies since my parents first took me there as a young child. The house made chocolates I buy today taste exactly the way they did decades ago. There are very few businesses that have been around for 77 years that have maintained the same level of quality they had when they first started. This is one of them. Today, I was helped by a wonderful employee named Riley. He has worked there about three years. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the products and was incredibly helpful and answering all my questions. He did a great job of carefully packaging, my small assortment of chocolates and other items. The customer service was outstanding! *Approximately 90% of the house made chocolates are gluten-free. I came in at 9:35 today, which is probably why maybe no one was up front? Too early I'm guessing. I came to pick up my order, Stood around waiting for someone to come up. There was no ding bell anywhere to summon anyone, after awhile finally I just got tired of waiting and went to my car to call them. (Maybe I should've yelled when I entered the building that I have arrived) I don't believe I was rude about it I just said I'm here at the shop and no one was up front , but Of course it's my fault, "the bell would've rang" so when I went back in I said "I think your door bell is broken" he simply responded with "no it's not" okay then I don't understand why no one came up to service me if it wasn't broken then. The cordials I had ordered for pick up were good. But idk if I'll be coming back with service like that. I've been to many chocolate shops, and usually the energy is high and happy, and if they left me waiting they would apologize at least. This was not that at all. read more

A friend of mine sent me a box of chocolates from Lee's. I used to live in Boise and when I read the box's informational insert, I thought, "Why haven't I heard of Lee's before?" Then I took a bite and lamented that I don't live in Boise anymore. Fast forward a few minutes and a Google search later, and I realized that I DO know Lee's! BSU is right down the hill. My old office is right around the corner. I used to stop by allll the time for a post-lunch treat or a TGIF celebratory chocolate. How could I forget?! The people in this shop were always nice. Sometimes you got a little sample. For a period of time I was addicted to their sour cherry balls. They also have a great collection of gifts. Parking is easy and when I lived in Boise (5 years ago) always plentiful. I'm so thankful for the gift my friend sent me. It helped me remember this shop, the friendly people there, and all the wonderful sweets and gifts they sell. If you have a sweet tooth, this is a must-visit! read more

Owner Curtis Nokleby, whose grandfather originated some of the candy recipes back in 1901, remembers being a toddler with the Lee's store as his play pen. This third generation family owned and operated candy store has been in Boise for 75 years and Curtis, who is rightfully proud of the family's contributions of good things to the community, is getting to the age where he is thinking about moving on if he found someone who wanted to carry on the legacy of quality and care that is hallmark at Lee's. So perhaps this review is to say timing can be everything, and the time is right with Valentine's Day coming up, to go in and buy some of Lee's delectable, handmade chocolates for your sweetie...or yourself. And with the multitude of celebration events just ahead - St. Pat's, Passover, Easter, Mother's Day, graduation season, Father's Day, wedding season - there are plenty of ways to give and enjoy these luscious creations. But anytime is the right time to say "you're special to me" to someone with top quality chocolate like this. THE TREATS: They have plenty to choose from in both light and dark (our fav) chocolates and the ones we bought were as wonderfully fresh and perfectly sweet but not cloyingly so of any we have enjoyed. (Highly recommend the dark chocolate covered walnut nougat.) And don't miss the Almond Toffee, if you're a fan of that delight as we are, because this one has a generous coating of almonds they roast and salt right in house. Among the best we have ever eaten and we have eaten a lot of it across the years. And if you know someone who loves nuts they have a deluxe nut mix that they roast in house and sell too. They also sell novelty candies and foil wrapped candies that they don't make in house for a full complement of old fashioned candy store appeal. THE SERVICE: Maybe the second most special thing in addition to the wonderful chocolates that so exceeded our expectations was the friendly, warm service from the woman at the counter. Sweeeeet! THE VIBE: Sparkling clean and bright, it smells good when you walk in. And old fashioned candy store vibe includes pastel walls with Merry-Go-Round horses painted on one wall and stuffed animals on display on one end of the store, and tables full of novelty candies and the piece de resistance chocolates on display behind glass so clean it almost looks invisible. PARKING: Private lot. ACCESSIBILITY: Level in the door and all on one level inside with ample floor space. ADA parking, including van accessible spot, right outside door. THEY SHIP: Their web site indicates they ship. My recommendation would be to call the store to order or better yet go in to select an assortment if you're planning to send these along to someone special while the weather is still cool enough to ship chocolates. read more

Love Lee's for special gifts that "go away." The chocolate is delicious. What would make this a five-star review? Chocolate with marshmallow and no nuts "we only have rocky road" and a paper shopping bag with a handle for customers who make large purchases. I grew up in Boise from 1957 to 1985 this is the best candy store. I now live in Missoula, Montana and I have not found another candy store where I can buy my favorite chocolates Victorian Chocolates. Every time we go to Boise we make a trip to Lee's and sometime I order them sent to me through the mail. They are impossible to fine. Please never stop making them. I have been eating Lees candies for 50 plus years. I have put his kids through college munching on absolutely tasty chocolates. Some of his staff know me by name. I spent 18 months in Great Britain and ate British and Belgium chocolate over there. Lees is as good and better. I cannot resist Lees chocolates. This is locally made chocolate and other candy. It is some of the best chocolate candy I have every had. It is way better than See's Candy, for example. Much of the candy is hand made on location.
