Boise Pie Company was recently sold to new owners yet again, this is the second owner (or maybe the third?) since the original owner opened this business in 2018. I haven't been in in a while because the location is an awkward one for me and the interior is not particularly a cozy place to sit and enjoy a piece of pe. But Boise Pie Company pies in limited options are now available to order through Farm Deliver (the aggregator for local food hub that takes orders for local farmer and producers and delivers their good things to homes on Wednesday afternoons) so I had a Peach Huckleberry pie in the delivery yesterday afternoon. The crust on this pie was so delicious, in fact much better than my memory of Boise Pie Co. pies being ever. I wonder if the new owner changed the crust recipe? I often leave the crust on a piece of pie, but on this one I ate every crumb. Every holiday I try to find a local producer food item to gift to neighbors. Something that doesn't need to be eaten right away but can be saved and used at any time during holidays or after. I know Boise Pie Co is now providing frozen take and bake Huckleberry pies. If they're still doing that at holiday time, they may be my choice for the neighbors' gifts. (I plan ahead. :-) ) In years past it has been treats like the frozen Lasagna or Chicken pot pie from Certified Kitchen & Bakery's freezer case or Dan Ansotegui's award winning Basque chorizo sausages from Ansot's cold case or stollen from Acme Bakery or assorted artisan chocolates from Chocolat Bar so Boise Pie Co would join great company in the gifting. ;-)

The food omg we loved everything the Jalapeño sausage roll was the best- great puff pastry either spice. my sunrise sandwich- I LOVED the jam & I added sausage with mine it was very filling my girl friend loved her bacon quiche omg everything was homemade u can taste it!! We also loved the huckleberry lemonade

Diamond in the rough. Stopped in for lunch. In town for a work trip. The Tom Sawyer sandwich was delightful. My friend ordered the chicken pot pie and it had plenty of large chunks of chicken and it was very flavorful. The slices of pie were so good we ate dessert before our meal. Highly recommend.

An amazing pie experience here- sweet pies, hand pies, savory pies and fabulous coffees too. The best crust I ever tasted and I loved my coffee too. My pecan pie was just as expected, not a big boozy taste and the chopped pecans give a more subtle texture than I'm used to. My Dad tried his favorite blueberry pie and it was very good. The New Orleans coffee was exceptional and unique. Pies available for the holidays and I would surely get one or two if I was local.

    War pig (Banh mi) $15.

War pig (Banh mi) $15. Honestly really disappointed. A year ago this sandwich was $10. No sides included. We ordered 2 of these sandwiches for lunch for $31-32. The portions are small and they raised prices to exorbitant levels... you could afford a full dinner entree with sides and drinks at other restaurants for the same price. The flavor of the sandwich was really good there's no denying that. They did a great job picking ingredients for this type of sandwich. But it was so soggy. No crispyness left in the baguette. The meat was also extremely chewy and would likely be better served already cut up into bite sized pieces so you don't flop the whole cutlet of meat around trying to saw your teeth through the grisely bits. For this price with no sides or drinks I'm shocked at the low quality. It was good. But not worth the high price. Especially since after I ate my sandwich I was still hungry. I likely won't be returning because in my opinion it's just not worth the price. Bring back the 10 dollar price point and make sure your bread is crispy, slice the meat, and I'd be back in a heartbeat. 4.5/10 Pros: Fantastic flavor, Good quality ingredients, very nice servers. Cons: Soggy bread, chewy meat, expensive, no sides, no drink. (Pictured: half a war pig sandwich. )

I must've driven by this place 50 times before I tried it. My son wanted a chocolate cream pie for his birthday so I called ahead and pre-ordered one. He said it was the best chocolate pie he's ever had with a really creamy consistency that was fluffier than say a pudding type version of a chocolate cream pie. I also ordered a slice of the Keylime which was perfectly tart with a fantastic graham cracker crumble under it which complimented the lime perfectly. I also consider myself to be a connoisseur of the pasty so I tried their handheld meat pie as well. I took it home and covered it with brown gravy and ketchup and thought that it was a very good savory pie. I can't wait to go back in and try some of their sandwiches the bahn mi looks amazing!

    This place is so great!

So before all this isolation, quarantine nonsense started, well actually probably right as it was becoming a reality, I was able to finally try a pie from Boise Pie Company. I've never been a big fan of pie but was so happy to try this pie. It was a mixed berry pie and it was SO. FREAKING. GOOD!!! It wasn't overly sugary like so many pies out there that we've all had at least one million times in our lives lol. It was just right. You actually got to taste more of the fruit than anything and that's just kinda awesome. The shop is an amazing little place. Very Boise feel to it. I had always heard about this place and thought it was somewhere on the north end/downtown area. So I was actually very happy to see that it is not located over there. Not everything amazing needs to be downtown or in the overrated north end, hahaha! I'm sure I just passed off a a few with that north end comment lol. But the inside you can see in the pics I posted. Very homey but very modern feel to it. I mean, it's a pie spot, of course there would have to be some element of homey-ness to is (is that a word? Lol...I just made it one!) I asked her how to spell her name before I left but I know I'm probably going to get it wrong here, but Carrie is the owner. Carrie and Kevin. I didn't have much interaction with Kevin, but Carrie is literally a breath of fresh air! Such an amazing person. She represents her business perfectly! Seriously, such a nice person. I shared the pie with a few of my friends and I quote my friend Allyson "this is literally the best mixed berry pie I've ever had. I usually don't like mixed berry but this is incredible. I love that it's not all sugar" (I actually saved that quote from her on my phone to make sure I had it right for my review lol) Thank you Boise Pie Company for an amazing pie, not just for me, but for my friends, my roommate, and one of his friends lol. They all had amazing things to say about it and I'm convinced you will see them in your shop at one point or another! Thanks again. Thank you for reading, Yelping yelperetties! Cheers!

Happy Pi Day!! Where better to be than Boise Pie of course!! Now let's talk some pie Salted Caramel Apple. From first look I was impressed. Pools of salted caramel on the beautiful top crust. It was obvious what it was from the get-go. Bonus points as some that I've had would put caramel only IN the pie. Tart apples inside with the right amount of crisp to them. Over cooked-Nope! They had the perfect cook. Crust was flaky and the bottom crust was still stable and not soaked through. Again-point for them! I prefer my crust a little more sweet but honestly it worked with this pie!! I have no complaints. None whatsoever. Love this shoppe! I was greeted from the moment I walked in the door and felt welcomed. Props Boise Pie!! I'll be back to try their savory fare...and a couple other pies I was eyeing while inside. Ohhh and my slice of chocolate cream...yeah I'm not sure what happened to it. Insert sigh...

    Inside this amazing place!

The bakery itself is small, but the display case is anything but. It's packed with beautifully crafted pastries, each one more tempting than the last. Honestly, everything looked worth trying. We settled on the Rose Croissant and the Lox Croissant Sandwich, and both were excellent. The rose croissant was a standout with the rose flavor delicate yet present in every bite, which is rare for floral pastries. It never became overpowering or faded into the background or tasted artificial. The true star of the meal, however, was the lox croissant sandwich. It was absolutely stellar and one of the best savory pastries we've had in a long time. The coffee was just okay, but that was fine because the pastries completely stole the show. The staff worked quickly despite the steady stream of customers. There is a bit of seating both indoors and outdoors, although most people seemed to be taking their orders to go ,perhaps because of the weather. If you're visiting, come for the pastries. They're absolutely worth the wait.

Luckily I was there that day and was able to snag a chocolate bar. I remember it being so good! I thought today was a good day for a sweet treat so I made my way in! My husband's request was an apple fritter if they had any. I came in later in the afternoon and surprisingly there were still quite a few donuts available. I was happy that there was quite a selection still. They all looked so good! Even the classic glazed looked tasty. After looking over the goodies, I decided on a half dozen of mixed donuts. The sweet lady behind the counter was so patient with me as I was looking and second guessing my choices. With the mixed variety you get 3 classic, 2 specialty and 1 extra fancy donut. I snagged a round glazed, a chocolate and maple bar, 2 apple fritters and a fancy donut with cream and strawberries on top. I was planning on giving 3 of the goodies to my in laws. I asked the sweet lady for an extra box and with no hesitation she grabbed it got me. I was able to get my goodies sorted. I dropped off the maple bar, an apple fritter and the cream and strawberry donut to my in laws. My father in law loves apple fritters and didn't hesitate to grab it from the box and claim it right away. 0 He enjoyed half of it and is saving the other half for later. Nothing but great things were said about his treat. I forgot to mention earlier that the sweet lady gave me two donut holes in my box. I snacked on those and mannnnn were they good! They were so soft and sweet. I just wanted a little something so it was perfect! My husband devoured his apple fritter. I didn't even get a bite! I'm happy he enjoyed it! I was recently at Krispy Kreme and honestly the donut I got tasted stale. Like it had been sitting out for more than a day. I only had 2 small donut holes and they blew Krispy Kreme out of the water, it was night and day. I'm happy I got to stop in today and grab some goodies. The donuts were amazing! The service was great! And I got to support a local business in my area! I look forward to coming back and grabbing more treats for my family/friends sometime soon.

I give major props to that little glazed croissant- it was delicious but I also appreciate that it wasn't huge. I felt satisfied but not sickly full afterward. I tried the buttermilk later in the day and it wasn't okay, the frosted donut for a similar review from my daughter- like, solid food donuts but nothing we couldn't find at the local grocery store bakery. I have driven by this shop a million times but never got the chance to make it in. After checking out all their photos and goodies off their website, making my way in today was a must. The shop is very small and intimate. You are immediately greeted by all the goodies as soon as you walk in. Colorful macarons, the cutest cheesecakes and beautifully displayed scones and muffins. The display case is nice and bright, allowing you to be able to see the details and coloring of each macaron. The pretty piping on the cheesecake. The fun layers of the cakes. It was hard not to want one of each thing out of the case. It was our first visit for my daughter and I. As a new customer, you're trying to absorb everything about this store. You want to look at all your options! The gal that initially was going to help us pretty much just stood there and stared at us. Didn't really talk to us. Didn't ask if we had any questions. She had the most unpleasant look on her face. It honestly made me feel so unwanted and uncomfortable to be at the shop. I offered to let another customer go ahead of us so she wasn't just standing there waiting for us to order something. The second customer also needed some time. Finally a gentleman came in and she got him some coffee started. Another gal was working and she helped us. At that point, I was so turned off about getting anything but we were already there so we decided to grab a few things. My daughter and I decided to share a 6 pack of macarons. We snagged lemon, birthday cake, coffee, chocolate, creme brulee and cookies and cream as our flavor choices. She also got a red velvet cheesecake for us to share after dinner tonight. On our ride home, we broke that box of macarons open and had to try them all. The lemon was sweet and tangy, I love the lemon custard in the middle. Birthday cake reminds me of a pink frosted animal cookie. The chocolate was my favorite! Very chocolate forward and sweet. Coffee reminded me of a vanilla latte in cookie form. Cookies and cream was much like cookies and cream ice cream. More cream forward and less chocolate cookie. Creme brulee had sugar toasted on top which created a slight bitterness to the cookie but it was balanced with how sweet the cookie was. All 6 macarons were fabulous! I look forward to having the red velvet cheesecake after dinner tonight. I like that there are so many gluten free options at this bakery. I adore how petite and prettily decorated the pastries were. I appreciate that this joint is local as I love supporting local businesses. But, first impressions are so huge for me and my first impression of their customer service wasn't there for me. You can push out great products all you want but how you make someone feel during their purchase can make or break your business. As fantastic as my macarons were, all I can think about was how uncomfortable I was when I was just being stared at. Macarons and cheesecake can be purchased at a few joints in our valley. I'm happy I got to enjoy some goodies with my daughter but I'm going to go support another local business that will actually make me feel like a valued customer and not a bother.

The other person there was great though! I was drawn in by the array of unique flavors and vegan options. I had really wanted to get something boozy and vegan, but they only had one flavor on at the moment that fit the bill and I wasn't particularly interested, so I sampled a few of the dairy boozy flavors and went with a vegan non-boozy ice cream for my actual order because a full scoop of dairy ice cream does not sit right in my stomach. I liked the boozy flavors more but that was only because of the flavors offered - the vegan ice cream itself was great, very smooth and creamy, not overly sugary. I got the float season vegan ice cream: blackberry ice cream with salted dark chocolate. I did still enjoy this flavor a lot. I really liked the crunchy bittersweet dark chocolate bits. I didn't get anything to drink but I was kind of tempted. The ice cream + beer or wine flights looked interesting. I don't know wine well enough to comment, but it looked like they had a good selection of beer with quality brewers and a good variety of beer types. This is technically a Warehouse Food Hall vendor but it's only accessible from the street outside the food hall. I wasted a few minutes wandering around the food hall trying to find it before I looked outside. They have a fair amount of seating inside and outside.

Kate's cheesecakes became a family favorite and in time, others began to hear about them. In January 2018, Kate opened Say Cheez Cake, a Boise-based cheesecake delivery service that delivers in the Treasure Valley, Magic Valley, Pocatello and Utah. Kate offers a constantly expanding list of flavors that come in five different sizes: bite-size, minis, slices, 4" personal cakes and 9" cakes. Every week, slices ($7) are available in three different flavors. Gluten free, ketogenic and vegan options are available upon request. I tend to be a traditionalist when it comes to cheesecake. I prefer classic cheesecake, or if I'm feeling wild and crazy, cherry cheesecake. Places like The Cheesecake Factory are of no interest to me. First, I have no interest in ordering dessert at a place that doesn't make them in the house. Second, most of the flavored cheesecakes seem to be made by people that don't enjoy cheesecake. How else do you explain the glut of cheesecake shaped desserts with so many mix-ins that they no longer bear any resemblance to cheesecake flavor-wise? On 11/1/20, I ordered a slice of Dutch Chocolate with Chocolate Ganache ($7) that was scheduled to be delivered the evening of 11/3/20. I was busy working and completely forgot about the cheesecake delivery so ignored the doorbell, assuming it was a solicitor. A short time later, I received an email informing me that my cheesecake had been delivered to my doorstep. I openedthe door and found a beautiful orange bag with Kate's logo on it. The bag was heavier expected. Imagine my surprise when I opened the bag and found a business card thanking me for my business that had a handwritten note, "Biscoff on me! Thank you." Beneath the slice of Dutch Chocolate cheesecake was a slice of Biscoff Cookie cheesecake!!! Kate's cheesecakes are so good that they have caused me to re-examine my assumptions about flavored cheesecakes. Turns out, I'm not a traditionalist after all Until now, I just never had a great flavored cheesecake. Everything about Kate's cheesecakes is perfection. Not only do they look beautiful, but the texture and flavors are remarkable. I also appreciated that neither of the cheesecakes was overly sweet. I look forward to trying many more of Kate's wonderful cheesecake flavors. With the holidays just around the corner, it's the perfect time for you to try them too.
