After paying, didn't tell me to wait, sit, or if they'd bring it to me. Severely lacking basic service skills. Ordered the funky chicken sandwich and a bottle of soda. $12.99 for two pieces of bread with a little filling, and a slice of cheese (see pic). Sandwich assembler eventually brought my sandwich out to me. Will not be returning to this place. Wayyyy better off going to any of the many sandwich chains. read more

Boise Pie Company was recently sold to new owners yet again, this is the second owner (or maybe the third?) since the original owner opened this business in 2018. I haven't been in in a while because the location is an awkward one for me and the interior is not particularly a cozy place to sit and enjoy a piece of pe. But Boise Pie Company pies in limited options are now available to order through Farm Deliver (the aggregator for local food hub that takes orders for local farmer and producers and delivers their good things to homes on Wednesday afternoons) so I had a Peach Huckleberry pie in the delivery yesterday afternoon. The crust on this pie was so delicious, in fact much better than my memory of Boise Pie Co. pies being ever. I wonder if the new owner changed the crust recipe? I often leave the crust on a piece of pie, but on this one I ate every crumb. Every holiday I try to find a local producer food item to gift to neighbors. Something that doesn't need to be eaten right away but can be saved and used at any time during holidays or after. I know Boise Pie Co is now providing frozen take and bake Huckleberry pies. If they're still doing that at holiday time, they may be my choice for the neighbors' gifts. (I plan ahead. :-) ) In years past it has been treats like the frozen Lasagna or Chicken pot pie from Certified Kitchen & Bakery's freezer case or Dan Ansotegui's award winning Basque chorizo sausages from Ansot's cold case or stollen from Acme Bakery or assorted artisan chocolates from Chocolat Bar so Boise Pie Co would join great company in the gifting. ;-) read more

First week in Boise, looking for a good coffee shop with a breakfast sandwich ! So far, 4 days in and this is the best yet! Now, this has been a focus this week. Trying to find that perfect breakfast sandwich being that I am new in town and a fan of a tasty start to the day...not everyday, but no furniture yet so why not! This was a nice find...I will say coffee was good but not great. Nice spot but I don't know if I would come here to work and hang out. The food though was way above average! Now finding the breakfast thing is a little complicated because I don't eat meat. I will do an egg and cheese although I only like the good stuff. Lots of places just use premade sandwiches which most of already have the meat added...this is especially the issue with a breakfast burrito of which is also on the tasting menu! Now here I had to try one of the hand pies, they have a bunch of them. They did have a jalapeños cheese one that I had to get. I also got the breakfast sandwich that didn't have any meat in it. It did have egg, cheese, a hashbrown, a nice sauce and a little too much greens to it. It was a huge sandwich ...I didn't finish it all actually which is odd for me. My friend ordered the chicken pot pie and it had plenty of large chunks of chicken and it was very flavorful. The slices of pie were so good we ate dessert before our meal. I really love the food and pies here but everything is so expensive. It is my opinion that all is overpriced but I'm sure their overhead is a lot so restaurants often struggle with the balance of cost over charge. They have to make a profit in order to stay in business BUT sometimes they can make up the difference in quantity sold when they don't overcharge. It's been my experience (having owned businesses in the past) that a reasonable charge for excellent service/product will bring in much more customers. It's a way to make even more profit than overcharging and having fewer customers. I, for one, will still come back to Boise Pie Company since the food is so GREAT. Delicious -but very expensive- pie. On this particular morning the support staff was lacking:,cashier and manager on " slow " mode. Lots of other staff not helping. When we asked for a bag to carry the three (3) pies we purchased, they were flummoxed! Mind you, the pies were not cheap, so we wanted to carry them in a bag that would accommodate them. We got one small pie , a slice of a berry pie, shepherds pie, and chicken pot pie . The cookie butter pie had good flavor , but very little crust and a lot of cream . The cascade berry pie was tart and good . The shepherds pie had no flavor . The chicken pot pie filling was thin and watery plus it came with a weird cracker sized crust that wasn't attached to the pot pie . An amazing pie experience here- sweet pies, hand pies, savory pies and fabulous coffees too. The best crust I ever tasted and I loved my coffee too. My pecan pie was just as expected, not a big boozy taste and the chopped pecans give a more subtle texture than I'm used to. My Dad tried his favorite blueberry pie and it was very good. The New Orleans coffee was exceptional and unique. Pies available for the holidays and I would surely get one or two if I was local. read more

War pig (Banh mi) $15. Honestly really disappointed. A year ago this sandwich was $10. No sides included. We ordered 2 of these sandwiches for lunch for $31-32. The portions are small and they raised prices to exorbitant levels... you could afford a full dinner entree with sides and drinks at other restaurants for the same price. The flavor of the sandwich was really good there's no denying that. They did a great job picking ingredients for this type of sandwich. But it was so soggy. No crispyness left in the baguette. The meat was also extremely chewy and would likely be better served already cut up into bite sized pieces so you don't flop the whole cutlet of meat around trying to saw your teeth through the grisely bits. For this price with no sides or drinks I'm shocked at the low quality. It was good. But not worth the high price. Especially since after I ate my sandwich I was still hungry. I likely won't be returning because in my opinion it's just not worth the price. Bring back the 10 dollar price point and make sure your bread is crispy, slice the meat, and I'd be back in a heartbeat. 4.5/10 Pros: Fantastic flavor, Good quality ingredients, very nice servers. I must've driven by this place 50 times before I tried it. My son wanted a chocolate cream pie for his birthday so I called ahead and pre-ordered one. He said it was the best chocolate pie he's ever had with a really creamy consistency that was fluffier than say a pudding type version of a chocolate cream pie. I also ordered a slice of the Keylime which was perfectly tart with a fantastic graham cracker crumble under it which complimented the lime perfectly. I also consider myself to be a connoisseur of the pasty so I tried their handheld meat pie as well. I took it home and covered it with brown gravy and ketchup and thought that it was a very good savory pie. So before all this isolation, quarantine nonsense started, well actually probably right as it was becoming a reality, I was able to finally try a pie from Boise Pie Company. I've never been a big fan of pie but was so happy to try this pie. It was a mixed berry pie and it was SO. FREAKING. GOOD!!! It wasn't overly sugary like so many pies out there that we've all had at least one million times in our lives lol. It was just right. You actually got to taste more of the fruit than anything and that's just kinda awesome. The shop is an amazing little place. Very Boise feel to it. I had always heard about this place and thought it was somewhere on the north end/downtown area. So I was actually very happy to see that it is not located over there. Not everything amazing needs to be downtown or in the overrated north end, hahaha! I'm sure I just passed off a a few with that north end comment lol. But the inside you can see in the pics I posted. Very homey but very modern feel to it. I mean, it's a pie spot, of course there would have to be some element of homey-ness to is (is that a word? Lol...I just made it one!) I asked her how to spell her name before I left but I know I'm probably going to get it wrong here, but Carrie is the owner. Carrie and Kevin. I didn't have much interaction with Kevin, but Carrie is literally a breath of fresh air! Such an amazing person. She represents her business perfectly! Seriously, such a nice person. I shared the pie with a few of my friends and I quote my friend Allyson "this is literally the best mixed berry pie I've ever had. I usually don't like mixed berry but this is incredible. Happy Pi Day!! Where better to be than Boise Pie of course!! Now let's talk some pie Salted Caramel Apple. From first look I was impressed. Pools of salted caramel on the beautiful top crust. It was obvious what it was from the get-go. Bonus points as some that I've had would put caramel only IN the pie. Tart apples inside with the right amount of crisp to them. Over cooked-Nope! They had the perfect cook. Crust was flaky and the bottom crust was still stable and not soaked through. Again-point for them! I prefer my crust a little more sweet but honestly it worked with this pie!! I have no complaints. None whatsoever. Love this shoppe! I know 5 star ratings get overlooked because it's just assumed that it is an easy out. Well, in this case it is earned. The first thing to know if I stopped by because I saw a sign as I was driving that said "pie" and that was enough to peak my interest. When I walked in the staff were immediately attentive. I told them I'd never been in and they helped me to see not just the pie but the full menu. They have pies, quiche, soups, salads, sandwiches and grilled cheese. I couldn't pass up a specialty grilled cheese. I ordered the Parisian grilled cheese and it was a wonderful combination of bold flavors that meld together for a remarkable sandwich. It comes with chips and I ordered a Coke Zero. They bring the coke to your table with a glass of ice and the bottle so you can take it with you if you want. As for pie, I had to try the chocolate silk but overall deciding was one of the toughest choices. Every pie looks amazing. Oh! And there are a few cheesecakes hidden in there as well. The pie. Let's just say their is a reason their name is Boise Pie Company. They live up to the name. As good as the grilled cheese is, the pie is in a league of its own. This a quite a place. All sorts of pies and other baked goods. Got a huckleberry cream pie that was super good. I ordered it ahead of time because their pies don't stay on their shelves very long. So if you are looking for something special call a head and have them hold it for you. Or just order it and they will tell you when it will be ready. I read some reviews about this restaurant the past several weeks and have been wanting to try it. Today, my wife and I were in Boise and were about ten minutes away so we thought we would give this place a try for an early dinner/ late lunch. It is a little place, but I am so glad we went there to eat. Amy wife got the Thai wrap with turkey and we shared a bowl of sausage and bean soup. I had the Pigs on the wing sandwich. All of the food was outstanding. It was fresh, warm, and just delicious. We then had dessert. I got a slice of Boise Berry Pie, and my wife had the Lemon Cream Pie. Both were delicious. The staff there were so nice, and if you are in the area it is well worth it to eat here. I believe they close around 5:00 PM. Stop by and support small businesses. Very cozy place. Seems like a place my Grandfather would have stopped by daily for a piece of pie and a read of the newspaper, had the prices not been so high. Took awhile for someone to take our order at counter, even though there were very few people there. I got a thai sandwich that was really good but not worth the price point for what you got. Then I got a piece of cream pie, with berries on the bottom, but it was lacking flavor, maybe cinnamon or cardamom. Well my first piece of advice is do not go at 3:00 pm on a Saturday. They close at 4:00 (ish) and a lot of the delicious food was gone for the day. We ordered the Mediterranean wrap, the La Mason sandwich, the meatball sliders, the Coconut Cream Pie and the Chocolate Mousse. All four of our party agreed that the meatballs and the coconut pie were the winners! The meatballs were moist and flavorful and dripping with melty cheese. The coconut cream was very well balance. Not too sweet, creamy, coconut-y. My husband wouldn't even stop eating for me to take a picture. :) My Mediterranean wrap was very meh. Too much spinach and very mediocre flavors. My sister had the La Mason and it was not amazing. The pears were sliced too thick, the Brie should have been melted and the turkey was pretty bland. I was also pretty disappointed to have Lay's regular potato chips. I love chips! But maybe get some kettle cooked? Am I being too extra? This is a great local joint with a lot of potential. 100% the best pie I've ever had. Ever. Flaky, delicious crust with buttery flavor, and a deep dish pie with beautifully balanced, fresh fruit flavor. Oh my word! We ended up with a Salted Caramel Peach and a Mixed Berry. We've only cut into the peach, but it is one amazing pie. Usually, peach pies made out of season use canned or frozen peaches that end up mushy in the final product. Not so here! The peaches (cut in gloriously large slices) were just soft and still in tact. The filling is beautifully balanced so the fruit flavor shines through, and that caramel topping isn't overwhelming at all--it just adds a touch of punch to each bite. For our money, this is the best pie in the valley. We're converts! read more

The pie baker helped me to my car yesterday because holding lunch and my cane was tipsy. Being a die hard pie girlie I was giddy when I discovered there was a pie-centric small business in town. I couldn't wait to come try it. I was all set to love it and be a devoted fan. But that was not to be. My son and I came for breakfast today. We each got a savory and a sweet pie to try. My son ordered a beef hand pie and a chocolate cream pie. The first problem was that he did not get a chocolate cream pie. They didn't even have chocolate cream pie. But rather than tell us that, the girl who was filling thenorder just gave him a berry pie instead.(?!) But we were eating pie so I was ready to overlook that. He exchanged his wrong pie for anpiece of peanut butter cheesecake and we were on our way. I ordered the bacon onion potato quiche. I make a pretty delicious quiche at home, but I expected a restaurant devoted solely to pie to be at least on par with mine, if not better. Not only did it miss par, it was terrible! The flavor was like dirty cast iron-- and not in a good way. Disappointed, I ate that and was still looking forward to the slices of blueberry crumble and salted caramel peach that I got to try. The blueberry was delicious. Until halfway through I found an extremely long hair. I was kind of done eating the filling at that point and broke off a piece of crust because-- pie shop should mean flaky tender pie crust, right? It was sort of flaky, but the texture was not capturing my attention as the flavor demanded all of my brain. It tasted like the counter it was rolled out on was wiped with a sour rag. Also, the back part of the bottom crust was still raw. At this point, I was pretty disappointed but my son gave me a bite of his beef hand pie and it was delicious. I held out grim hope for the peach. The first bite made me gag, it was awful. Also, the filling was so liquidy that it seemed like someone had spilled milk in the clamshell. I threw that whole slice away minus the first bite. Three strikes and you're out. I was so ready to love you too. I can't tell you how bummed I am that it was just so bad. read more
