When I arrived to pick up the cheesecakes, I was told that the order could not be completed because they require five days' notice. However, I never received an email, text message, or phone call informing me that the order could not be fulfilled. In the past, I had received messages from them with questions about an order or notification when they were unable to complete one. The situation became even more disappointing when I asked to speak with a manager. I showed her that the online ordering page was unclear about the required advance notice and suggested adding specific information for customers ordering cheesecakes. I also explained that I had not received any notification about the issue and suggested sending customers a text message when an order cannot be fulfilled. Rather than acknowledging the communication problem or apologizing for the inconvenience, the manager placed the responsibility entirely on me, stating that I should have called to confirm the order. She also said that, because they are a small team of three, they do not have time to communicate with customers by phone or text. I understand that small businesses have staffing limitations, but the lack of communication and the manager's dismissive response were unacceptable. I left feeling frustrated and disappointed, and after this experience, feel less likely to return despite their awesome pastries. (UPDATE: the following day I noticed they had updated their online order request to include "7 day notice requested for all orders". Kate's cheesecakes became a family favorite and in time, others began to hear about them. In January 2018, Kate opened Say Cheez Cake, a Boise-based cheesecake delivery service that delivers in the Treasure Valley, Magic Valley, Pocatello and Utah. Kate offers a constantly expanding list of flavors that come in five different sizes: bite-size, minis, slices, 4" personal cakes and 9" cakes. Every week, slices ($7) are available in three different flavors. Gluten free, ketogenic and vegan options are available upon request. I tend to be a traditionalist when it comes to cheesecake. I prefer classic cheesecake, or if I'm feeling wild and crazy, cherry cheesecake. Places like The Cheesecake Factory are of no interest to me. First, I have no interest in ordering dessert at a place that doesn't make them in the house. Second, most of the flavored cheesecakes seem to be made by people that don't enjoy cheesecake. How else do you explain the glut of cheesecake shaped desserts with so many mix-ins that they no longer bear any resemblance to cheesecake flavor-wise? On 11/1/20, I ordered a slice of Dutch Chocolate with Chocolate Ganache ($7) that was scheduled to be delivered the evening of 11/3/20. I was busy working and completely forgot about the cheesecake delivery so ignored the doorbell, assuming it was a solicitor. A short time later, I received an email informing me that my cheesecake had been delivered to my doorstep. I openedthe door and found a beautiful orange bag with Kate's logo on it. The bag was heavier expected. Imagine my surprise when I opened the bag and found a business card thanking me for my business that had a handwritten note, "Biscoff on me! Thank you." Beneath the slice of Dutch Chocolate cheesecake was a slice of Biscoff Cookie cheesecake!!! Kate's cheesecakes are so good that they have caused me to re-examine my assumptions about flavored cheesecakes. Turns out, I'm not a traditionalist after all Until now, I just never had a great flavored cheesecake. Everything about Kate's cheesecakes is perfection. Not only do they look beautiful, but the texture and flavors are remarkable. I also appreciated that neither of the cheesecakes was overly sweet. I look forward to trying many more of Kate's wonderful cheesecake flavors. With the holidays just around the corner, it's the perfect time for you to try them too.
