Arrive early so you can upgrade to a freshly made croissant since they have those in limited batches. As for the drinks themselves, I was happy with my unsweetened matcha which should always be a standard and my partner said the coffee was very delicious. I also had an enjoyable experience just sitting down the shop with the amount of thoughtful tchotchke's they had plus you could also purchase a hand-made ceramic mug. I love it when I am not looking at a boring white wall when I spend my time relaxing in the morning with a caffeinated drink. Would recommend, don't let the line you may see fool you, they make the drinks rather quickly!

We were passing through Boise and stopped at this coffee shop…read more It is a cute shop and love how open it is, I also appreciate the location. The service was polite. We ordered two lattes and two americanos and had very different experiences. The latte drinkers loved their coffee whilst my husband and I (the americano drinkers) felt that the coffee was average. I tasted some faint cherry notes at the end but it was not very complex at all. If it were based on my husband and I's experience alone I would rate it three stars but giving it a four star because our latte drinkers kept raving about it!

I was trying to kill two birds with one stone. Get my afternoon caffeinated beverage and check out this new local coffee joint. Walking in, this place is bright and inviting. I was instantly greeted by a beautiful smile and hello. I headed to the counter to check out the drink menu. I told the gal behind the counter I wanted to wait for my daughter to come in so we can order together. She was chill about it and let my daughter and I take our time. After we checked out the menu, I got myself my normal afternoon drink. An iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. My daughter got a peach and strawberry lotus energy drink. While our drinks were being prepared, I got to check out the venue. They have yummy looking baked goodies in the display case. A shelf filled with vintage coffee cans and plants. I adore the creativity they put into the shelf. The back wall is a stunning painting of a coffee plant. Whoever painted that wall did a fantastic job! My coffee looked dark and rich before I added my half and half. I knew that drink was going to be strong and flavorful! The espresso wasn't watered down at all. I added my half and half and a packet of sweetener. Taking one sip of my drink jolted me. You can taste the bitterness of the coffee. But it also had the right amount of sugar free vanilla in it as well. With the cream and sweetener, it was absolutely a great cup of coffee! I never caught the barista's name but she was super sweet. We talked about my transplant and my recovery from it. She was engaged and genuine. I appreciate that she was real and honestly involved in our conversation. It wasn't generic small talk. I wish this coffee joint is closer to me. Unfortunately they are on the other end of town. I would stop here every morning if I could. Everything about this shop is great. Plenty of seating, chill vibe, big windows for lighting and a dope barista behind the counter. If I'm ever in the other end of town, I most definitely will stop in top grab a drink.

The only flaw in this gem of a neighborhood place is that finding parking (street) ranges from…read morechallenging to impossible. Other than that, it sparkles. Lucky are the people in the Bench neighborhood nearby to be able to go there often. If this was in mine, I would be a regular. In spite of a half hour drive from my door to this store, my husband and I have been in three times, once the day before opening when we had a chance to talk to the charming owner. EATS & SIPS: We were familiar with Amanda's work because she once prepared some of the delicious food items sold at Roots Market (now closed, alas). She has a focus in her eponymous eatery on healthy, organic, vegetarian and also, we hear, Italian specialties. As example of the latter, on a day when we were in to pick up take away, the savory options were individual sized frittatas. The sweet treats are also delightful. Don't miss the opportunity to try the Russian apple cake and in a small freezer case inside the store is a selection of individual sized cups of ice cream by a local maker in unique flavors. As example the browned butter with fresh corn options is outstanding. The baristas are friendly and know their stuff in making beverages to sip. LOCATION: If you know where Amaru Confections was, this is that building. A European auto repair shop bought the building and divided it so the auto shop is on one side and Amanda's on the other. She does the cooking in a kitchen created in a kiosk in the back, a site that used to be a drive through coffee place. Genius. SEATING: Our options so far have been to go, but Amanda's husband built a great deck outside the front of the store and there is seating there, some or maybe all of it with umbrellas for sun protection. A small storefront, so no seating inside. LOO: There is one. So you know when you're wondering if you should have that second cup. ACCESSIBILITY: Level in from sidewalk into shop, ample floor space, loo has accessible signage (although I've never tried it), path of travel to deck space is accessible. No accessible street parking in the area so that is a challenge. There is one ADA compliant spot in the lot behind the building that is the mechanic garage's but is usable. THIS N THAT: The owner is also a published author of several books.

It's been a while since I have been in. The shop was still being worked on the last time I grabbed a drink. Now that it's finally completed, it's just absolutely stunning. It was stunning before but it's even more mysterious and beautiful now. The setting at this venue is just marvelous! The vibe of the shop is so romantic to me. A sweet gal helped me today. So kind with the prettiest smile! I got a 24oz iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. I checked out the joint while it was being made. There was a guest before me so it gave me a chance to look at the merch and decor. My drink looked nice and rich before I added the cream. I asked the sweet gal for a straw that wasn't communal. Baby girl obliged with a smile and got me one from the back. I appreciate her so much! And let me tell you, I had the best iced americano to get me through the rest of my day! It was perfectly made. You can taste the espresso, it wasn't watered down. The vanilla was present and since I added the half and half, it was perfect! I appreciate that that she used cold water that had been chilled to make me americano. It made a big difference not melting the ice and watering down the espresso. It was a nice jolly of caffeine! I adore the barista that helped me today. She was gorgeous inside and out. And she killed it with my fabulous drink! I look forward to coming back soon and having another 24ozer.

There was…read moreseveral locations in the late 90's and early 2000's, that's when I started hitting up the coffee shops. I had my fair share of Milky Ways in high school. I did work for their Edward's location in 2000. One of the funnest jobs I had as a teenager coming out into the world. Core memories were made from my co workers, guests and the responsibilities I was given at such a young age. But with time, other coffee joints have opened and your curiosity takes over. You hit up those other coffee shops or stay within your area for convenience. You forget the root of what started your love for coffee. I drive by this Moxie Java a few times a week and it always brings back memories. So, today I made the decision to go in! I have yet to have coffee at this location but with that logo on their store front, you know you're going to get a great cup of coffee. This venue is big. I love the outside patio with the awning. Inside is cozy with the fireplace going. Plenty of seating for coffee and conversations. Comfy chairs by the fireplace. I adore all the local pictures of Downtown Boise. You can spend a good amount of time here enjoying your drink. A sweet gal behind the counter greeted me. I appreciate that they have a convenient syrup list available so you don't have to ask the barista what kind of options you have. One thing about Movie Java that I love is the ample amount of options of syrups. Their sugar free options is one of the best in town. I really wanted a Milky Way but I'm watching my sugar intake. I got an iced sugar free chocolate and caramel breve. I know it won't be the same but a decent alternative. I'm just happy that they even have sugar free chocolate as an option. A flavor 95% of these other coffee joints don't have. My breve was tasty. I did have to add a packet of sweetner to it. It was almost there in sweetness, it just needed an extra push. The espresso wasn't overly strong. The half and half was creamy. It was all balanced and so good! I sipped on it for a bit in front of the fireplace. It was nice to start my Friday off on such a good note. Moxie Java will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's part of my youth. I have so many fond memories from past coffee shops. My love for coffee started with this place. My first Milky Way will always be a favorite core memory for me. I'm happy I got to stop in and grab my coffee today. His was really good, kinda tasted like a dirty chai. My regular mocha though was a bit disappointing. There wasn't enough chocolate and coffee flavor -- it was more on the milky side. For food, I tried their breakfast pocket with bacon, which was satisfying. There was a good amount of eggs, which I like. We also tried their raspberry fritter -- they asked us if we'd like it warmed up, so we said sure. In retrospect, maybe we shouldn't have gotten it warmed up because it was like biting intro really greasy fried dough. Warmed up or not though, it was a little too sweet for my taste. Other than that, the lady who took our order was nice.
