Today my friend and I headed to Java in Hyde Park for some coffee and gossip. This venue is so cool. It's in an old house. The vibe as soon as you walk in is pretty chill. There's plenty of tables and chairs for company or alone time. There's a comfy couch in front of an old school fire place. Lots of people chillin and doing their own thing. The barista that helped us was sweet. She took her time with us with ordering. I got myself an iced honey oat milk latte and confetti eggs for breakfast. I don't know if the barista heard me clearly when I asked for iced coffee but it ended being hot. It was no big deal that I got hot coffee but I would have preferred iced. My coffee was tasty! It was nicely sweetened with the honey. You can taste the creaminess of the oat milk. The coffee wasn't over whelming and bitter. It was a great latte. The confetti eggs were ok. They don't season the eggs which is fine so I seasoned that baby up with salt, pepper and chalula. Maybe it was the texture of the eggs because the way that they were cooked that didn't tickle my fancy. But the tortillas that were paired surg the eggs were good! They were soft and warm. Overall, breakfast a ok. I did scoop out some soup that was being served to some near by customers. It looked devine! It is something I will have to try the next time I'm there! The shop is always clean and has a really comfortable atmosphere whether you're stopping in briefly or planning to stay awhile. One of the highlights is the upstairs seating area. It's cozy, bright, and overlooks the downstairs dining area, which gives it a great feel and makes it a perfect place to sit with a coffee or get some work done. They also have nice outdoor seating, especially on sunny days, which adds to the whole downtown Boise experience. The food has been consistently good and everything I've tried has been fresh. What really stands out is the management. It's very impressive and clearly shows in the staff, the attention to detail, and the overall experience. That said, Form & Function really does bring something fresh to Eagle. The vibe is modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed without feeling cold. I also think they have the biggest alt milk selection of any local coffee shop I've been to, and I've tried basically all of them around here. Their seasonal drinks are consistently good too. One underrated thing? They're one of the only coffee shops in Eagle actually open on Sundays and open later into the afternoon. That's surprisingly rare around here. (Yes, Eagle Coffee & Bakery is open too, but their coffee always tastes burnt to me.) This place clearly thought about how people actually use coffee shops. Tons of seating options, lots of outlets, side tables that work well for laptops, a big upstairs group table, plus a little play kitchen and games for kiddos. The downstairs can get a little loud because of the high ceilings, but it's still way calmer than most busy cafés. Everything is super clean, including the bathrooms, which honestly matters more when you have kids. After finding out that this location is right down the road from me, you know I had to make my way in. I came in later in the morning so it was pretty chill. The venue is bright and simple. I love the simplicity of everything. The walls aren't over decorated. The tables and chairs and nicely spaced, the big windows give such great bright lightening and there's wonderful outdoor seating available too. I initially was on the wrong end of the counter. I finally realized and made my way to the register. I wasn't greeted by a barista. She wasn't the friendliest but she wasn't rude, she was there. She got my order squared away and I just hung out till it was ready. While waiting, I did notice all the goodies they had available. The baked goods looked fresh and yummy. I do believe they have a chia seed pudding in the little refrigerated case, it looked good. I'll have to grab some chia seed pudding the next time I'm in! I got myself something different from my normal americano. Today's drink was an iced matcha with almond milk. I did ask for some sugar free syrup. The few couple drinks I have gotten from the two other locations were Chai so it's good to know about not having sugar free syrups as an option. The barista did offer me honey or maple syrup as an alternative. I took up on her suggestion for the honey. My drink looked fabulous. It was rich in color. I really like the ice they serve here, it's great ice to chew on. I do like my coffee/tea to be slightly sweeter so I did end up adding a couple packets of blue sugar to my drink. I did a good few sips before I added the extra sweetner. It was hearty in matcha and you can taste the creaminess of the almond milk. The honey was there but the added sweetener did help enhance the honey. I enjoyed the nice weather today and had my drink outside. They have quite a few options for outdoor seating. Picnic tables, a few andorak chairs and a pint size picnic table for kids were available. I appreciate the big umbrellas at the picnic tables. It gave nice shade. In the space between the coffee shop and the boutique next door is where a lot of the seating is. It's quite charming and relaxing. I adore the strung up lights. I couldn't really enjoy them today since it was so bright out but I can imagine it being a great way to end day in a fall day. A hot cup of coffee, sitting in a huge andorak chair under the lights. I was trying to kill two birds with one stone. Get my afternoon caffeinated beverage and check out this new local coffee joint. Walking in, this place is bright and inviting. I was instantly greeted by a beautiful smile and hello. I headed to the counter to check out the drink menu. I told the gal behind the counter I wanted to wait for my daughter to come in so we can order together. She was chill about it and let my daughter and I take our time. After we checked out the menu, I got myself my normal afternoon drink. An iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. My daughter got a peach and strawberry lotus energy drink. While our drinks were being prepared, I got to check out the venue. They have yummy looking baked goodies in the display case. A shelf filled with vintage coffee cans and plants. I adore the creativity they put into the shelf. The back wall is a stunning painting of a coffee plant. Whoever painted that wall did a fantastic job! My coffee looked dark and rich before I added my half and half. I knew that drink was going to be strong and flavorful! The espresso wasn't watered down at all. I added my half and half and a packet of sweetener. Taking one sip of my drink jolted me. You can taste the bitterness of the coffee. But it also had the right amount of sugar free vanilla in it as well. With the cream and sweetener, it was absolutely a great cup of coffee! I never caught the barista's name but she was super sweet. We talked about my transplant and my recovery from it. She was engaged and genuine. I appreciate that she was real and honestly involved in our conversation. It wasn't generic small talk. I wish this coffee joint is closer to me. Unfortunately they are on the other end of town. I would stop here every morning if I could. Everything about this shop is great. Plenty of seating, chill vibe, big windows for lighting and a dope barista behind the counter. If I'm ever in the other end of town, I most definitely will stop in top grab a drink.
