I was taking a little stroll around Hyde Park and needed a pick-me-up when I spotted this super-cute coffee shop, Java! I decided to try the employee pick of the day--a pumpkin spice latte--and it was delicious without being overly sweet. I usually ask for my drinks half-sweet because I'm already sweet enough and don't need too much extra sweetness! Hahaha I didn't finish my latte, so I put the other half in the fridge and added it to my morning coffee the next day. Yes, I liked it so much that I wanted to save it! The service was awesome and quick, and the entire place was clean and inviting. Their cozy seating area feels like a living room where you can get comfy, read a book, or get some work done. Cute coffee shop in North End. They have an extensive coffee menu and it was hard to choose just one drink. I ended up going with my old faithful, a vanilla latte. It did not disappoint. I was tempted to get a cookie as well because they looked delicious, but I ended up passing. The sitting area is very cozy and inviting. And the barista who took my order seemed sweet. I just moved to Boise and was excited about trying this coffee shop, Java. Sadly, I inadvertently left my Navy Federal CU card inserted in the machine and did not realize it was missing until noon the next day! Four individuals, according to the Manager, Myra's, research, charged their order to my credit card "still inserted in their machine". Three charged their order the same day, August 19, and one charge the next day, August 20. The charges stopped only when I drove back to pick up my card. It is next to impossible for me to comprehend FOUR people saw my card inserted and never handed it to the cashier. The charges stopped only because I picked up my card. Please beware; remove your card or you could be charged fraudulently several times as well. I believe people are honest, but no recourse was offered and because of the uncertainly surrounding dishonesty of my card's use, I am now uncomfortable ever going to Java again. Been going to Java for years. Java DT is my number one go to coffee shop. Roz and crew are always so friendly and polite. Java in "the hood" the North End is a must stop when in the area. What I love about Boise is the variety of coffee shops in the valley. We have a ton in town but each and every one of them are so different. Today my friend and I headed to Java in Hyde Park for some coffee and gossip. This venue is so cool. It's in an old house. The vibe as soon as you walk in is pretty chill. There's plenty of tables and chairs for company or alone time. There's a comfy couch in front of an old school fire place. Lots of people chillin and doing their own thing. The barista that helped us was sweet. She took her time with us with ordering. I got myself an iced honey oat milk latte and confetti eggs for breakfast. I don't know if the barista heard me clearly when I asked for iced coffee but it ended being hot. It was no big deal that I got hot coffee but I would have preferred iced. My coffee was tasty! It was nicely sweetened with the honey. You can taste the creaminess of the oat milk. The coffee wasn't over whelming and bitter. It was a great latte. The confetti eggs were ok. They don't season the eggs which is fine so I seasoned that baby up with salt, pepper and chalula. Maybe it was the texture of the eggs because the way that they were cooked that didn't tickle my fancy. But the tortillas that were paired surg the eggs were good! They were soft and warm. Overall, breakfast a ok. I did scoop out some soup that was being served to some near by customers. It looked devine! It is something I will have to try the next time I'm there! Our son and his fiancee were visiting for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we took a drive downtown and ended up in Hyde Park. The other two coffee shops were already closed for the day (at 12:30), and good for them. Java was still open, and very busy. We liked the energy, and the staff were very nice. It's a place where people come to just relax and hang out, and people just seemed to be enjoying themselves. I didn't get a drink, but my wife, our son, and his fiancee all enjoyed theirs. A true Boise staple. The interior is authentic and warn in, which makes it feel like a true local spot. The baristas have always been kind and energetic. They make some of the best (and biggest) scones and muffins I have had. And the bowl of soul really does good things for the soul. Came here with my hubby and kids while walking around the neighborhood. I loved all the options of coffee but since I'm strictly caffeine free there wasn't very much variety for me personally. I generally order some sort of decaf americano with sugar feee Sweetener, Heavy cream and cold foam of some sort but this place didn't seem to have too many offerings so I stuck with just a regular decaf iced latte. It was good but I was really surprised at how tiny the large was... maybe I'm too used to human bean or Starbucks but I like an iced coffee that's going to be with me for a few hours while I walk around. This large was so tiny it didn't last me long. The breakfast menu looked delish but we had already ate so I will come back and try that next time. Visit the Hyde Park location and fell in love with the atmosphere and location. It is my absolute dream to move to Hyde Park. We went a it was relatively busy with very few sitting areas. A group of mature adults approximately 10 pulled tables together and were elbow to elbow with us. So, that was not fun but other then that my cappuccino was lovely. My love of Java has only increased over the years. It could be their amazing dog friendly patio (including the fact that they keep a bowl of fresh, clean water easily accessible and always available for your canine companions). I feel a little nervous posting a 3 star for Java, because the Treasure Valley loves this place so much. But after many, many visits, I've come to grips with saying that Java is just A-Ok. Firstly, Java is a nice addition to the charming Hyde Park area. It is truly a neighborhood coffee shop as many people can walk or ride their bikes there. Unfortunately, there are lots of other people (like me) who don't live in the North End and drive there. This makes Java crowded, noisy and hard to find parking. They have two single bathrooms tucked very close to tables in the back, and it can be difficult to navigate the maze to get back there (especially with a preschooler doing the potty dance). Though there is a ramp in back, I doubt this place is easy for folks with walkers, wheel chairs or strollers to navigate. The tables are very close together and the doors are not very wide. I do not like their coffee. It often tastes bitter and burnt to me, especially the iced coffee. They do have a nice "additions" bar where you can add all sorts of things like liquid cane sugar, soy milk, cinnamon, etc. For me, the pastries are hit or miss. The muffins are amazing, the scones are super dry and small. I had a maple bacon donut once and it was ok. My husband does like their breakfast burritos. They do have quite a lot of patio seating so it's not quite as crowded in the summer. I totally understand why lots of people love Java. But it's not my ideal coffee spot. read more

Ever since the first time I tried out Java about 5 years ago, this place has become my all-time favorite spot in Boise. It's my go-to coffee shop. Only have 45 minutes to hammer out some work? I go here. Meeting up with a friend? I go here. Withdrawing to burry my nose in a book? I go here. Early morning birthday celebration? I go here. (I'm not joking- the last two years I have kicked off my birthday here with my best friends, a bowl of soul, and "the usual"...and both times were perfect.) There are so many things I could rave about, but for starters I'll give a quick rant on the ATMOSPHERE: While I love the downtown Java, the one on 13th Street has a charm that you can't find anywhere else in Boise. What was once a house (the house that one of my best friend's dad grew up in- not lying!) has been turned into a sweet little treasure that makes you feel like you've just stepped into a movie. Surrounded by trees, dressed with big windows, furnished with cozy couches inside, and topped off with one heck of a patio- this place has an atmosphere that is perfect for sunshiny weather and rainy days alike. Now, the COFFEE: the first thing I tried here was a "Bowl of Soul", and I think this more than anything is what hooked me on this shop! Served in a literal bowl, this drink starts off with drip coffee, then added to that is a shot of espresso, Mexican chocolate, steamed milk, all topped off with a very generous dollop of homemade whipped cream, and then dusted with cinnamon. (Are you drooling yet?) **Beware, once you try it you will think about it on the reg- this can be hazardous for your waistline.** My recommendation? All things in balance: save this drink for special occasions (ie- birthdays). For a while, I would order it with almond milk to save a few calories...but still get whipped cream on it. That's a joke. Go big or go home- that's all I have to say. Fortunately, if sweet drinks aren't your thang, they make a mean cappuccino and serve up tasty drip coffee. You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. (Except for perhaps with the Thai Coffee...that wasn't my favorite). Finally, the FOOD: My favorite thing to order here is "the usual". It's super simple, but sometimes less is more. This breakfast dish is a bagel with cream cheese, tomato slices, and fresh cracked pepper to top it off. Served on the side are quaint little fruit slices. It doesn't sound like much, but it is oddly so satisfying. If you're looking to go a little bigger with your grub, the confetti eggs are delicious. And if you're looking for an amazing deal, get there before 9 AM and take advantage of the early bird special: $6 for 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, 2 slices of bacon, and a small drip coffee. I absolutely love Java in Hyde park. I've also been to the store in sun valley but everyone at the HP location is amazing. They have excellent espresso beverages and their chai lattes are really good. The food was surprisingly really tasty. I had the ultimate quesadilla and my friends each had a sandwich. Everyone enjoyed everything we got. They have the best loose leaf tea options from cafe moto. Their shade daisy tea is soooo good hot or iced and you can buy it by the 1/4 pound to take home! To begin with, I am not a picky eater and this is the first restaurant review I have ever made. I ordered Heuvos Rancheros and it did not look like a Huevos Rancheros dish that I have had before. It was a pile of beans and a scoop of scrambled eggs on top with sour cream and a side of fruit. The beans were not cooked and there wasn't more than a single eggs worth of scrambled eggs. There was also no seasoning at all on the eggs. It was simply plain eggs and plain beans. They get 2 starts because the people were nice. I should have ordered a bagel or a muffin. read more

I come to Java a lot more than I should for someone trying to save a few bucks but hey, the ultimate quesadilla and matcha lemonade are my jam. I like to come to Java in the early mornings or afternoons to enjoy my favorite meal and drink combo. I do not drink caffeine often, but when I do, I prefer it to be matcha lemonade. Sometimes it is a little intense but I always like it nonetheless. The combination of matcha with the refreshing taste of lemonade leaves me missing it for days until I return!
