I am a coffee snob who visited Boise and tried several places in the surrounding area. There are some good ones, but this one is the best in Boise in my opinion. Their plain old black coffee is great (pro-tip: try the Keith Richards for your sweet tooth or the Hammerhead for that extra bump) and there are solid choices for all the fancy coffee drinkers in your group, too. Their menu isn't super extensive but yet seems to check all the boxes for dietary preferences. Love this place! read more

The bowl of soul mocha was pretty awesome, though the place was absolutely packed when we went! It wasn't all bad though, we took our coffees and walked up to the park to enjoy them. Ahh, Boise. I was first introduced to this coffee shop 10 years ago when I first visited Boise/Hyde Park. I've thought fondly of both since and I've tried to make it a point to come grab a mexican mocha (now known as Bowl of Soul) when I came through town. This time around, it have been about 5 years since my last visit but Java did not disappoint. I got a delicious Mexican Hot chocolate and split Avocado toast and a cheese quesadilla with my kiddos. They liked the cheesy fresh goodness of the food and I enjoyed the simplicity of the fresh bread toasted just so and the fresh avocado sliced thinly with a hint of pepper. The service was good, drinks made very quickly. Food came out a bit slower but we did come in at brunch time on a Sunday so it's no worries. One of my favorite places already to visit when in Boise, Java shot even higher up my list of "Must Visit" places when they introduced the Chaider. Part hot Chai, part apple cider, this drink is delicious confusion as far as your tastebuds are concerned. I would actually consider giving up coffee for this. I was overjoyed when I discovered that Java offers unsweetened almond milk during my last visit to Boise, as it's hard to find coffee shops that serve milk alternatives other than soy. *Claps!* In addition to delicious beverages (be sure to try the Bowl of Soul if you're in the mood for something special), Java offers an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. Came here for breakfast I got the croissant sandwich. The steamed eggs were mushy, hardly any cheese on the eggs and the croissant was good but wit the mushy/watery eggs it made the bread soggy. I did enjoy the atmosphere and location of this java! Coffee-was GREAT! I had the bowl of soul with their homemade whip it was delish! Their coffee brand is a good quality too. Espresso drinks get a definite FIVE STAR! However, it is the laziness of the staff that makes me give it a 3 star. Whenever there are female baristas and front cashiers, I have a great experience. It is when it is the all-male staff that service starts declining. I went there on a lazy Saturday afternoon. None of the tables were cleaned off. Dirty dishes sat, taking up space. I had to bus someone elses table to sit down. I had to wipe it down with a napkin, while the guys working just stared and one finally yelled out "2 o'clock, i'm out of here". When I left and told one of the staff that there was an entire egg breakfast under one of the outside tables, he said ok, and continued to do nothing about it. However, coffee is amazing, food is great, and the female workers are what make me want to return. read more

Whenever I'm in town I make a point of stopping in here. The coffee is quality without the snobbery. I've ordered food before too and that did not disappoint. I am always happy with my experience. The ambiance is beautiful and very inviting. They are wonderfully located in Hyde Park so they are a fun stop after a long hike or day of sledding. Java in Hyde Park is arguably one of the most adorable and comforting businesses in Boise. It sits right on 13th Street and is surrounded by natural beauty- the perfect location for a morning coffee or afternoon brunch. The friendly and personable staff do a wonderful job of making you feel right at home. It's a unique little break away from the busyness of daily life-as is the rest of the North End-and is clearly adored by many based on how busy it is! I appreciate that they use reusable utensils and plates for all of their meals that they take the time to wash instead of opting for easily disposable cutlery- it's the small touches like that that really make you feel like you're in the North End. I would have to say though that my favorite part of Java is the feeling of locality; You really get a sense of community walking into this place. The food is great, the coffee is great, the staff is great, and the feeling you get when you walk inside is great. How can I complain?! read more

You'd think by looking at this place at 9am on a Thursday that it is decidedly the best place in town. Or maybe it's just where all the parents go after dropping their kids off at school. Regardless, it was packed and standing room for breakfast here this morning. We placed an order and we're lucky enough to have a table open up before our meal came. Given the crowd or arrived reasonably quickly and wasn't much to look at. My Avocado on toast was a little bland, but I'm the one ordering avocados in November in Idaho, so I cannot fault then their lack of color and flavor. The scrambled eggs will fill the belt and my hubby's huevos rancheros looked deconstructed... but not in that artsy uptown fashion. He said the ingredients were solid and he was just good to have food in his belly. We had driven all night from Denver to Boise and were a little worse for the wear. I would consider coming back to try the coffee but the rest of the menu leaves little to be desired. Cute decor, fun idea, and well enjoyed by the locals. Not for food snobs. read more

They have a real menu, making brunch legit.I STILL remember a tuna melt I had from there like a year ago. Their food is sadly better than most fancy places I've been to here in Idaho... esp. Java is my local go-to coffee spot because of its convenient location (and really only coffee place in the vicinity) but also because they have great drip coffee. Staff is always friendly and make quick work of your order. They carry Amaru Confection's gluten free muffins which is a plus. I came here for breakfast. Before I get to the food I'll just mention for its size It has ample room on the deck outside and seating inside as well. Also, it was free wi-fi. Onto the food. I ordered a bacon and egg croisant and cinnamon toast. Unfortunately, the person at the register wasn't listening closely and decided to serve me up a cinnamon twist instead. I was too tired to let her know. The twist however wasn't that great. It was a tad bit dry. The egg and bacon croissant was awesome. The eggs were tender, the bacon was savory and not to fatty, and the croissant was buttery and soft. For the prices paid for each plate, they were great portions. Now onto the bad part. There was a ungodly amount of flies just floating around the cafe. It was odd that nobody else found that strange or tried to do anything about it. That being said, I wouldn't let that ruin my desire to come back here again in the future. read more
