Movie Java has been around for a hot minute. The originals of the infamous Milky Way. There was several locations in the late 90's and early 2000's, that's when I started hitting up the coffee shops. I had my fair share of Milky Ways in high school. I did work for their Edward's location in 2000. One of the funnest jobs I had as a teenager coming out into the world. Core memories were made from my co workers, guests and the responsibilities I was given at such a young age. But with time, other coffee joints have opened and your curiosity takes over. You hit up those other coffee shops or stay within your area for convenience. You forget the root of what started your love for coffee. I drive by this Moxie Java a few times a week and it always brings back memories. So, today I made the decision to go in! I have yet to have coffee at this location but with that logo on their store front, you know you're going to get a great cup of coffee. This venue is big. I love the outside patio with the awning. Inside is cozy with the fireplace going. Plenty of seating for coffee and conversations. Comfy chairs by the fireplace. I adore all the local pictures of Downtown Boise. You can spend a good amount of time here enjoying your drink. A sweet gal behind the counter greeted me. I appreciate that they have a convenient syrup list available so you don't have to ask the barista what kind of options you have. One thing about Movie Java that I love is the ample amount of options of syrups. Their sugar free options is one of the best in town. I really wanted a Milky Way but I'm watching my sugar intake. I got an iced sugar free chocolate and caramel breve. I know it won't be the same but a decent alternative. I'm just happy that they even have sugar free chocolate as an option. A flavor 95% of these other coffee joints don't have. My breve was tasty. I did have to add a packet of sweetner to it. It was almost there in sweetness, it just needed an extra push. The espresso wasn't overly strong. The half and half was creamy. It was all balanced and so good! I sipped on it for a bit in front of the fireplace. It was nice to start my Friday off on such a good note. Moxie Java will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's part of my youth. I have so many fond memories from past coffee shops. My love for coffee started with this place. My first Milky Way will always be a favorite core memory for me. I'm happy I got to stop in and grab my coffee today. Moxie Java has great coffee, friendly service, and decent prices! I love the drive-through and they are always super friendly employees! They have a happy hour which is one dollar off drinks starting around two or 3 PM which is a great deal and I was able to get two Italian sodas for about five dollars. They also have great loaded breakfast burritos for about six dollars that come with salsa and sour cream. Local chain, good coffee, support this business! read more

Good coffee and fresh pastries and breakfast burrito's. Located just off Chinden, I've been frequenting it each morning during my stay in Boise. There's a very nice, spacious inside area and 5 tables outside, half of them offering shaded seating. They have a drive-through window as well, and even though there's only been two employees working each morning I've been there, service is very friendly and effective. They've got tons of bottled flavorings, so if that's your thing in your coffee, this place is for you. Only about a dozen parking spots, but most of the business looks to be drive-through. The ambiance of the place is very nice with several areas of seating. The menu is comparable to the other coffee places around with several "special drinks" and a long list of syrups and sauces to add to the more normal coffee offerings. In terms of breakfast food, it has the regular stuff. Decent, but nothing exceptional which is to be expected from a coffee shop. The service was quick and friendly. read more

One of the better coffee shops in the Boise area. Love the friendly staff and the drinks are always prepared and presented better than the other places. They don't have as many locations as they used to which is a shame, but what they lack in locations they make up for in drink quality. I got an infused Redbull which was delicous - better than similar drinks at other shops. I'm a sucker for the berry flavors personally. Great friendly employees, super long drive-in, but they try to be quick. Coffee is superb, I recommend you get a Breve! Burritos are the best I've had thus far, but I wouldn't recommend the bacon Burrito. There was only crumbled bacon, no solid pieces. This is my favorite Moxie Java location! The crew is always helpful and they are always friendly. It's a stop if Dutch Bros is busy, of course. They have awesome breakfast croissants and I love the ham and cheese ones for sure! It is hard to get out of after ordering in the drive thru and that kept me away for a long time. Their hot white chocolate mocha is my favorite coffee there and I've noticed my stomach doesn't hurt if I have to drink it fast. After their coffee turns cold while I'm at work I've also noticed the flavors stay around. I like Moxie Java, specifically for their flavored/specialty drinks. And, so as far as that goes, this location does not disappoint. They have a drive-thru, which is a wonderfully convenient option. Plus, around the holidays, they have one of the best holiday specialty coffee menus in town. I mean, who doesn't like a Roasted Reindeer? Christmas Lace? Snow Storm? Enchantmint? They're all pretty sweet--but I like a little sweet around the holidays. While the drive-thru is a convenient option, I like to go inside to enjoy my cuppa by the fire. They have plenty of seating, including tables right by the fire. My main dining companion complains its too hot, but I could sit there all day, feeling quite cozy and lovely. The workers are always friendly and efficient. And, they have a punch card (like many in town), where if you buy 10 cups of coffee, get the 11th free. Get to it! read more

The pluses here are the large, open space with lots of seating, the nice fireplace, and the cleanliness. It's a great place to hang out and work. Sadly, the coffee is pretty atrocious. In general, I find Moxie's brewed coffee quite weak and overly acidic. The espresso drinks are intensely sweet for the most part. I've also watched baristas steam milk over and over again, which is not okay and against health standards. The vibe is very corporate. The staff isn't chatty or personable, but I think some of that is the fault of the drive-thru and the fact half the time they're talking to someone outside rather than the customer in front of them. The pastries are the standard frozen but baked in house treats you find everywhere, but they taste pretty good The sandwiches, soups, and salads are the totally standard fare you'd get out of a can and a bag at home but at five times the price. I can see why they have such a low score and yell I walk in the places dead on top of that the people of front of the counter were not nice at all and it seemed like it took 2 brains to work to make one small Coffee. Sweetness-overkill. Both times I visited, I ordered lattes and I was only really able to finish half of each drink because they were so sweet. I went through the drive-thru both times and though the line was short, my wait was...decent. BUT, I did order food as well. I had ordered a meat breakfast burrito thing and a sandwich between the two visits. I had nothing to complain about for their food, besides it being a bit more expensive than I would have thought. They are close to both a Dutch Bros. and Starbucks. They beat Dutch Bros. food and I am tired of Starbucks' food so Moxie's does have the upper hand when it comes to food. Their food menu is enticing enough and brings me in for those mornings in which I would prefer to buy my food but they fail when it comes to specialty drinks; unless you prefer super sweet! read more

Unfortunately I have to leave a 1 star review. I'm at this location 2-3 times a week. I usually order coffee and a breakfast wrap. 95% of the time they get it right. Today I got a cold (it's normally too hot to eat right away) burrito. Honestly......that can happen and based on their past performance....it's an anomaly. So in order to help them I called their location. The call wouldn't go through. It was a fast busy signal. So I called their main office number which I believe is located in the same building. Got to their general mailbox.....and it was full. So I can't help you Moxie Java......You were going to be putting out cold burritos all day and maybe longer. I'm giving one star because any retail establishment that sells food/drink needs to have a working phone number so that people can contact them in the case of any type of emergency or correction. I have been in here once, and only once. So, I suppose I should give this joint a second chance. I ordered my "usual", which is a 16 oz. latte, with an extra shot (three shots, total). It was awful ... horribly bitter espresso ... no consistency to the foam ... not hot enough. So, I took it back and they prepared another, which was equally as bad. Stopped by for a couple of mochas the other morning and they were great as was the pastries we got. Service was fabulous and the ambiance was nice with the fire place going. Restrooms were very clean but that's what I've experienced at other Moxie locations too. Good Job Moxie! read more

Moxie - what has happened to you? I first tried to order a soy matcha but they don't do matcha unless you buy a tea bag of it, which tea bags won't really work that way. As popular as matcha is everywhere, why not have Matcha powder on hand? Come on people! So, I decided to take my next favorite option which is soy chai. I don't know what brand of Chai mix that they are using or what soy that they are using but something is way off. You could only taste the soy milk. You could barely smell the spices that are in chai. I asked the guy about it that made it and he told me that he made it how he is supposed to and that the cup is about 1/2 chai mix and 1/2 soy. If that is true and he did it by the book then who ever decided on which chai mix to use needs to be booted. My drink basically tasted like plain (no vanilla even) hot soy milk. He did offer to make me another one but what would that do? If he made it how he is supposed to, 1/2 chai and 1/2 soy then all we would be doing is making another tasteless waste of a drink. Why didn't he ask if I wanted my money back or offer to make another drink instead? They have punch cards, they easily could have given me one all punched out so I could get a free drink next time. I drive by another Moxie on the way home and I was very tempted to go in there and order the same drink to see if they both were flavorless or just the one that was claimed to have been made right. At least then I would know if Moxie Java is now using a terrible chai tea base or if it was made wrong. However, I have gotten soy chai from there for many years and they were good. No idea what happened since the guy said he made it how they are supposed to and even told me the ratios that he used which would tend to validate that he did make it per training. I fixed up my $4.00 wasted drink when I got home with, get this - Matcha tea powder. Took me nearly 10 seconds. My guess is that the time sink that they think making a matcha tea is why they don't mess around with doing it right. Most drinks take longer, but what do I know. But if I knew I was going to have to make it at home in the first place I could have just made it with $0.50 of soy milk and $0.05 of matcha and saved $3.45 Having been a customer of theirs, the Bistro store in particular, since the beginning, WTF is with those couches that have been worn so much the material on the cushions is gone!?! Raise your drink prices by $0.02 to $0.05 each and you could get new couches and comfort chairs in there every year. No excuse for that especially when that seating area is the first thing that you walk past coming in the front door. Shame on you! Those metal chairs outside - try leaning back in one of those. Angle iron and backs don't mix well. Between the furniture and the drink - screw that. If the drink was good and the furniture still was worn down more than what Good Will would accept as a donation I would probably put up with it. There are always little places that are run down but the food or drinks are great so they get a pass but in the main Moxie Java Bistro store - I'm dumping you so I can date another local coffee house instead. And seriously, manager of the store or the entire Moxie Java company - walk in the front door and take two steps in. Then look right to left and left to right. After doing so, WTF about that seating area by the fireplace with a boys college dorm worn couch makes the store an appealing place to sit in and relax for awhile? Then have 10 people sit in the chairs outside and lean back in them like they are wanting to relax and enjoy their drink....until the angle iron across the top back of the chairs dig into your shoulder blades and spine. Maybe if I was a little fatter I wouldn't have been bothered by it but it was not comfortable at all. I am very sad as Moxie and I go back decades. The bistro is your flag ship store. Get your act together! From my perspective, that store is a reflection of the underlying business as any storefront should be. read more

Small little coffee shop with some sandwiches, soups, and pastries. The coffee is good and I've only tried a few of the sandwiches (Black and Blue is my favorite). It is quite most of the time and a good place to unwind for lunch. I'm told that the breakfast burritos are very tasty but haven't tried one yet. read more

There's nothing bad I can say about this place. The baristas are hard working, friendly, and efficient. Management is slowly remodeling the inside of the bistro, which now has a refreshing new look. When I went to the bistro, I talked with Vanessa and Jenna, as well as Bree and Britt. The environment of Moxie is very welcoming and sincere. As customers, we have our own personal bias of coffee, and the baristas try to reciprocate the ideals of our caffeinated preference. Plus, the blueberry scones are heavenly. It's very sad to see Moxie Java closing it's doors everywhere, I think this is the last one still up and running, but for what it's worth, it wasn't the best coffee shop there was, but it was an Idaho local coffee shop and it was an alternative whenever you wanted something a little different, it was good coffee and good food, it was a little expensive but compared to most coffee shops still going it's not outragous. I go out of my way for the quiche... And always leave disappointed about everything else. I'm a regular (who tips generously) yet no one cares to remember me or my (super easy) order. Its pretty bad when you roll in on your morning commute and ask for a hand blended expresso drink with almond milk and your told that isnt something that they can do. It would have to be iced. I literally just got a blended dairy free drink last week here. The girl was rude. Took minutes explaining the pre-made base they use in blended drinks. Like I dont care about that. I know what I want. I don't feel like arguing with a rude barista who cant handle a special order. Moxie staff could take a lesson from Dutch Bros.
