I am so excited that this joint is opening up in my neck of the woods. I barely make it out to the Overland area and now they are right down the road from me! It's great! I stopped by today to see if they were open. They weren't which is a bummer but I look forward to trying out their goodies! From what is set up, it's looking pretty cute! I love the bright yellow tables outside. There is an olive tree out front as well, it's all very inviting. Looking inside, everything is shiny and pretty. When I wrote the FTR in December 2025 for this focacceria (focaccia bakery) and pasticceria (Italian pastries) I mentioned that it had been worth every moment of the 50 minutes my husband and I spent waiting in line on a 29 degree morning to get in the door on opening day. I also mentioned that I was not a fan of the location in a decrepit strip mall in Boise (one of many). Although Caffe Sorrento owners, Tony and Emma Curcuru, did an admirable job of turning the tiny space they leased into the best it could be under the circumstances, it was not a great location overall. (And for me, I have had multiple sclerosis since college years, largely inaccessible given the strip mall owner failed in ADA compliance for parking.) The Curcuru's business became so deservedly popular so quickly, the space became a problem and, frankly, they deserved better for setting as did all of us who wanted to support them. BUONA NOTIZIA!: The "hooray" news is that this summer Caffe Sorrento relocated to a newer strip mall in Boise on cusp of Garden City, taking over a space that had most recently been a charcuterie to go spot that provides more space for them to work and sell their good things in as well as for customers who go in to look and select. There is also a convenient to use parking lot and more opportunity for little, cafe style table seating on the outside walkway without blocking it as happened at the old location. WAYFINDING FOR THE NEW IMPROVED LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION: When I looked today, 9/19/25, the Yelp page still showed the old (Overland) address. The correct address is 5624 W State St and this is the cusp of Garden City and Boise in the same strip mall building that has The Local at one end of it and a yoga studio at the other and is maybe half a mile'ish from Far West Nursery on the same side of State Street.. As aside, the new location is also closer to my home. This may not necessarily be better for my waistline, but it is better for my taste buds and spirit. (I thought about all of this as I sat outside at a table yesterday sharing with my Sicilian heritage husband an Italian pastry cream filled and chocolate glazed brioche dough "cream puff" as well as a "Daneshe", I think that is how it was labeled, marizpan and sliced almond topped yeast dough pastry and sipping espresso. Molto, molto bene. NEWISH HOURS: Sometime in September they swapped out Wednesday for Sunday and they are now open Wednesday through Saturday (now closed Sunday) from 9a to 2p (or earlier if sold out). NEW OFFERING: On Friday evenings beginning at 6p, they sell gelato. Called Carmela's Gelato, I think, after their adorable daughter who was born just a few weeks before Caffe Sorrento opened. SEATING: Several cafe tables on the walkway. LOO: Since this is primarily a take-out food business they are not required to have and do not have a public loo. Plan accordingly. This is one of those places where you understand the value of patience. Each time we have gone, there has been a line out the door because the space is only small enough for standing room for 8 people, all of whom are waiting for their order or their turn to order. The pastries are to die for. We came for the first time last week, paid our penance in a long line, and was greeted by the warmest family you can find on the edge of Boise and Meridian. Good lord!!! This Italian bakery is devine! You know you've hit a gem when the place is packed on a Sunday morning. My kids and I absolutely loved their baked goods. The sandwiches were very fresh but I think the sweets are even better! Overall I loved this place but I will say it was extremely slow at making 2 sandwiches. I had an unfortunate experience with the Giuseppe vegetarian sandwich today. It has a lot of ingredients, and I was worried that some of them might not make it into the sandwich due to how busy the store was, and I was right. It's supposed to come with olives and capers, among other ingredients, but my sandwich only seemed to have ricotta, cherry tomatoes, very few white onion pieces, arugula, and oil & vinegar that soaked through the bottom of the bread. If the missing ingredients were truly there, they must have been so minuscule, as to not even register on my palate. In all truth, there was found in the sandwich one partial olive, which leads me to believe that they did forget the rest. The cherry tomatoes were very tasty, along with the rest of the ingredients. I just was expecting to get everything shown in the description for the $14 price. . The owner was friendly, as usual, as were the rest of the staff. Everyone was working efficiently and cleanly. The new location is beautiful and slightly bigger, but so far from its original location, that I doubt they will keep the same customers. Still, they were quite busy as they should be for their excellent and authentic products. There are a few very petite tables out front as the interior is standing room only. . Will I return? I was delighted to find out that at the new State St. location they have steady business but not the 1 hour lines of the older, smaller place (even if you arrived before opening). At the 9am Friday opening and with schools on holiday there was only 1 customer ahead of me and a couple others already served. The steady traffic never had the line out the door or even completely filled the inside. During the reasonable wait for multiple sandwiches I think everyone in line had their order taken within 5 min. The owner said only arriving a bit later on Saturdays typically has the longer line or problems with many things sold out already. This definitely makes it easier to go more regularly! This is my first visit at Caffe Sorrento since their move from Overland to State Street outside Garden City. The location is in a strip mall and the Caffe has a few bistro tables outside on sidewalk and no indoor seating. Get your order to go and go grab a seat at a park or on the Boise River. First, the smells that hit me when I opened their door took me right back to Italy. They offer a variety of Italian pastries, cannoli, cookies and foccacia sandwiches. On my first visit I had to have a maritozzo which is a sweet brioche pastry covered in Italian vanilla bean cream and I then ordered the Serafino sandwich which was mortadella, crushed pistachio, stracciatella and basil spread. I drove these goodies all the way back to Star to share with hubby. The sandwich was large cut in half making it easily shareable. I must say, I am not a lover of foccacia but this bread was so fresh and pillowy on the inside a perfect vehicle for whatever filling you want. This bread was not dry or crumbly. The sanwich flavors were a hit. Mortadella isn't for everyone but I love it and it was definitely a taste of Bologna. The maritozzo was almost softball size and the sweet brioche was not soggy; the Italian vanilla cream was perfect not to sweet and more than enough for each bite of the brioche. I made myself an espresso and added a spoonful of the crema to it. Perfecto! I can't wait to try other menu items. The staff were great and there was no line on a Friday morning. Our family of 4 ordered 2 focaccia sandwiches (Dino & Flavia), 4 mini cannoli & a dozen mixed cookies because he's 100% Italian & once he saw & smelled everything he wanted to try everything! We've had plenty of focaccia before & it's never been my favorite because it can be too dense & tough for me. This focaccia is not that! It's light, golden, yummy by itself & so flavorful with the delicious fillings! We all loved both sandwiches. All of the cookies & pastries were amazing! Each tasted so different & rich. I can't relieve the name, but the one with mortadella and striaciatella and pistachio, OMG! don't even get me started on the maritozzo!! It's been a pleasure getting to know Tony and Emma (and now Carmela) from their cannoli cart and it was especially rewarding to visit them in their grand opening of their new venture, Caffe Sorrento. It was heartwarming to see the large turnout of faithful supporters, and it was worth the long wait in the cold to get in and sample some delicious offerings. I had the Dino - (prosciutto, provolone, arugula, pistachios and fig on amazing homemade focaccia). It just might have been the best sandwich I've ever had. The taste combination took me back to my visits to Italy and Sicily. And of course I had to have some delicious cannoli and almond cookies to go with it.
