We had this pizza for a Yelp event at club hound and I had not even heard of it before and the pizza was absolutely delicious. When I went to the website I learned they have a fridge oven that they cook their pizzas and pastries in. The crust is a wonderful cracker crust! What else can I say about it? I like the crust. What a treat! I was visiting Boise and heard via word of mouth from someone who is friends with someone at Temple bakery that their friends opened up this pizza place. I love a good back story. I ordered the burrata with pine nuts and peas which balanced really well with the grilled romaine Caesar salad. The house made dressing was really creamy and the Boise bread was a bonus. Maybe it was acme or another brand and the grill marks on the bread add another level of flavor. The portions are generous and I tried 3 pizzas: a 3 cheese blend with béchamel, a Nonna's garden which was a flavor bomb of freshness. It had a big chunk of potato on each slice and the pizza was nice and oily. I don't recall the sauce but I think it was a pesto style. The bad moon was their take on a classic supreme with outstanding sausage. It tasted house made and very similar to the type you find in Italy. The 3 cheese make your own pizza was really interesting. This is a good thing because as a purist growing up in Rome, I've adopted to American fusion. The choice of cheeses stood out to me and I could really taste the quality of the pecorino. The nice bite and kick of the cheese really elevated the pizza. For me provolone can be too intense and some peieo use fontina with a classic mozzarella. Either way the bite paired well with chilly flakes. Lastly, the crust! OMG, the crust took be back to Il Forno in Rome and eating pizza rossa every day as a kid. Kudos to the pizzaiolo and creator of these recipes. I can see this pizza place expanding. Perhaps the most fun-tabulous dining find for us in all of 2023 in the Boise area is this late October opened eatery at the corner of Chinden and 37th in Garden City. They are serving outstanding pizzas, salads, apps and desserts in afternoons six days a week and with plans underway to have bakery goods available in mornings beginning sometime in early part of 2024. Pride of ownership shines in attention to detail for design (same owner as the more swank Broadcast coffee in downtown Boise and while the vibe is different you'll see analogs in set up) for making the best of the revamped space in a "hmmm?" kind of neighborhood next to an Axe throwing joint and across a side street from a very old motor-hotel. Garden City overall is evolving to have this funky mix and Black Moon is one of the best examples of getting things right on all levels from the "all people are welcome here" universally accessible interior to the "we're so glad you're here" service to the "I can hardly wait to come to eat here again" fantastic food. SERVICE: You are welcomed the moment you walk in the door, whether what they consider the front door on the back of the building with its' own parking lot (woohoo) or the busy street Chinden facing door that you see as you drive by. Order at the counter, you're given a number to put on the table you choose to use and they'll deliver the delicious eats to you when they are ready and then check on you at the just right intervals to be sure you are enjoying all. We have been in two times now and both Ricky and Erica get Gold Stars for great service. VIBE: Dining area has limited light given the double glass doors on to the parking lot provide the only window but they have made the best of it with globe lighting hanging above and green plants too. Handsome polished concrete floors. Windows on the Chinden facing side let in light for the main section where the order counter is and that is open to the dining area. Music was just right sort of funky alternative mix at a perfect level to know it was there but not compete with conversation. SEATING: At high stools at counter and a high table on the Chinden side of the building. Standard height tables and chairs easily usable by people of all ages and life stages, including me as I have had multiple sclerosis since college days and boosting my butt onto a high seat is in my rearview, are in dining room area and also along a window on the Chinden side. EATS DEETS: House specialty pizzas are offered in creative combos on excellent crust with quality toppings applied in perfect amount starting at $17. You can also create your own if you choose with base price $11 then add ons priced $1.50 / $2.00. Pizzas are in one size, 12" I think, cut in 8 pieces and easily feed two with leftovers to take away. We loved the Brussels 2 Ways option with shaved braised Brussels sprouts, garlic confit and caramelized onion, My Sicilian heritage husband who grew up in an Italian speaking household in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn paid it his highest compliment; "the crust has perfect balance of crunch and chew". This is a scratch kitchen so things like sausage for the pizzas and meatballs served as app and in sandwiches are housemade. Salads use perfectly fresh ingredients and are impeccably dressed. Save room for dessert because you'll have options like panna cotta with seasonal compote (house made lemon curd when we ordered) and bourbon vanilla poached pears on whipped mascarpone with caramel. Full menu is at website. GF crust available. BAKERY PLANS: House baked country bread and baguette available on Saturdays (they open at 11a) but future plans are for this to also be a sweets and pastry bakery that will open earlier to sell those items. (Which they also plan to use in Broadcast coffee downtown.) LIBATIONS: Soft drinks, wine and beer. We enjoyed glasses of Cava on one visit and Sangiovese and Aperol Spritz on another. No coffee service yet but once the sweets bakery is open they'll have Broadcast coffee in the house. PARKING: You can't park on the blacktop on the Chinden side of the building which driving by you'll consider the front. But turn onto 37th side street and you can park at building side there or around the back of the building you'll find private parking lot. Hooray! ACCESSIBILITY: In a truly rare occurance for Garden City, the parking lot is ADA compliant with the van accessible access striping on the correct, passenger, side of the vehicle and accessible route to the door. Inside has ample floor space to get to and from order counter which is at accessible height. Several standard height tables with chairs look like they would work for diners using wheelchairs. We've heard nothing but great things about this place, so it's been on our "must try" list. Tonight, my 10-yr-old son, Charlie B and I decided to give it a shot. Mum's out of town and it sounded like a perfect opportunity for a boys night out. It was so good, we'll be headed out once she's back. First of all, thanks to Christina and Erica for wonderful service. They were charming, personable, and helpful. Charlie wanted a meatball pizza, so that's what we ordered. Black Moon is known for their speciality pizzas and I'm sure a meatball pizza is rarely ordered, but it was soooo good. Their cheese blend is gorgeous, and Charlie and I devoured the crust. We found this new hidden gem in Garden City! The food was incredible, especially the pizza (some of the best I have had). The atmosphere has a great energy with a lot of natural light! The staff is super friendly and were really attentive checking on us often. The bar is great too! I enjoyed a frozen margarita that was absolutely delicious. WOW, great place! A couple of my buddies and I went here and couldn't be more satisfied with our experience! It is a causal atmosphere with spacious seating. You order at the counter "lunch time" the beers were ice cold and service was quick! We ordered several of their pizzas! Flower Moon, Hunter Moon and Full Moon... couldn't be more satisfied with our choices as the crust was light and crispy and none of the topping overpowered the others. Tried the Bad Moon, Flower Moon, and Hunter Moon pizzas as well as the artichoke dip and the grilled Caesar salad. It was all very tasty. Their breads are a highlight so the pizza crust was great and the bread for the artichoke dip was excellent. The grilled salad was fantastic and one of the best I've had. The restaurant itself is nice inside. It's a bummer that you have to see chinden out the windows. Very overrated, I really don't understand why this place is rated so well. $37 (without tip) for a pizza and salad. The salad had croutons on it that seemed dangerously hard, we could barely bite them. Flavor of the salad was meh. The pizza came out fairly quick, looked very nice but unfortunately the flavor was not great. We had to stop eating it because of how salty it was. The ingredients sounded good, but the ingredients they specifically used were all way too salty. Then the service was okay. One person was great and helped us, but one of two people helping up front was not helpful and was on their phone a lot of the time. We wanted a box to go and I waited for a few minutes at the register area, watching this person on their phone. I tried to be kind about it and get their attention, but they didn't seem to care. Again, I really don't understand the good reviews for this place. I usually give a place a couple tries before having an opinion, but I don't plan to try this one again. read more

This place is MAGICAL. I want to start out by saying that it is extremely difficult to find a good gluten free crust pizza. My partner is gluten intolerant so it's always a mission for us to find a good one. Black Moon has nailed it. It so dang good! I've heard that they've done extensive research on this topic and get special flour shipped in for their GF crust. We've enjoyed multiple toppings on the GF crust and they've all been incredibly delicious. All of the salads are delightful. The glutinous pizzas are so so good as well. The loaves of bread and other pastries are a delicious treat. Every person that we've interacted with at Black Moon has been extremely attentive and super nice. Unfortunately the gluten free crust tasted like what I feel like a packing peanuts would be like to bite into (don't know from personal experience). If I were going to bite into one, that crust is what it was giving. For $25, it was a waste, but at least we gave it a try! Gluten free peeps know that it's either cardboard or packing peanuts.
