I even tried a bourbon cocktail (usually I'm a vodka or gin drinker) and it was so tasty! They have a bourbon vault with a good selection of high end bottles that you can order a pour of. This bar is connected to a couple other bars like Devil's Den and Spacebar Arcade. It is recommended to make a reservation online (and almost required based on what time you're looking to come here). They allow a max of 6 people in a party because it's a small place and there's are no tables big enough for that many people. It has the vibe of a speakeasy which is super cool and just my type of place. They specialize in classic cocktails but also have a couple drinks that they're experimenting with. They'll make anything that you like or want or are feeling. The bartender Erik was hyping up the old fashioned ($11) saying that theirs was the best so that's what I ordered. Ultimately it was a damn good drink and very balanced. For my second drink he asked for one spirit to make a drink off of and I threw him a curveball with green chartreuse. He came up with the drink and, as he said it, "got weird" and made a unique drink that really highlighted the green chartreuse well but was still balanced. I left after that but had to come back because it was just an awesome place. The atmosphere is so lively and fun and the bar is very forward-thinking in the craft cocktail space. Erik is the bar manager and was just an amazing bartender and guy. We got to chatting about cocktails and started geeking out about them. It was so so fun to hang out with him and the other bartenders even after they closed and they were so welcoming to an out-of-towner like me. Fun little "Speakeasy" in the heart of Boise. The staff is fun and knowledgeable. They offer many drinks on the menu and are happy to make something special if you request. The decorations are fun and plentiful. Lots to see and they play great music. My only drawback that takes away a star is that they do not serve any wine. They have one Prosecco. Personally I don't understand that decision. Example is that my wife only drinks wine and has no interest to go hangout there now when all of the others bars in walking distance have it. Not hard (or expensive) to have a Cab and Sav Blanc or whatever in house for those customers that don't drink hard liquor. If you like good drinks and a cool vibe this is the place for you. I came in on a Wednesday evening around 8:00. It wasn't crowded but this bar is very small. I can imagine on the weekends it gets a bit crazy and tight. My husband and I snagged a high table and ordered the garden gimlet made with cucumber gin and a bell pepper syrup. It was so fresh tasting and delicious! The candied bell pepper garnish was the perfect sweetness. My husband really enjoyed his old fashioned. We also ordered a spicy peach margarita that was very different and complex. Very cool bar. I went on a Friday night with 6 friends and we arrived around 10:00 pm. It was quite crowded and we stood around awkwardly for a minute trying to decide if we should go somewhere else (because who wants to sip pretty cocktails while standing in heels? Yuck). Luckily a group vacated their seats and we pounced. We ordered a mixture of cocktails and beers. The beer drinkers were happy. Uncharacteristically for me, I ordered a cocktail. I just had to try one of their unique creations. I got an Amaretto Sour and it was just darling. It came in a small old-fashioned cocktail glass and had little hearts drawn into the foam. It was delicious. Not too sweet or sour and you couldn't taste anything bitter. My buddy ordered a hot toddy and it came in a copper mug with delicious whipped cream. She said it was great. Our bartender was charming and they did the coolest fire spitting before we left. Maiden visit to opens at 4pm, speakeasy-style, 24"ish" seat, craft cocktail bar Press & Pony makes me think I'll rescind the bad things I've said about burger joint Boise Fry Company right next door. How is that connected? Because I learned the BFC owner is the financial investor for Press & Pony. Good on him for that. We likely will be one and done as Press & Pony customers but it was a fun visit, great service from the bar tender, top notch preparation of Pisco Sour (for me) and a Bloody Mary (for my hubby) that included a molasses and chili salt crusted rim, all enjoyed in a well designed nod to the past space. A hour well spent even if I did have to hoist myself up on to high seating to do it. (And there's the rub for less than 5 stars.) SERVICE & VIBE: The drinks were not only delicious to taste but also beautiful to see. Sipping them in the romantically dimly lit 1920's interior designed space while enjoying the classic music tunes of years past (think Louis Armstrong's rendition of "You can't take that away from me" or a chanteuse singing "Someone to watch over me") made me need to bite my tongue not to sing along as I sipped. And given we were older by at least double the average age of the people who filtered in while we were there (only about seven folks at 4:30 but by our 5:30 departure on a weeknight, the place was over half full and counting) I'll betcha I'm the only person in there who would know the lyrics. Applause to the bar tender because as much as we may have seemed to him "escapees from the home" given how much senior we were to any other of his guests, he treated us with the same good welcome and care. HAPPY HOUR: Specials (4p - 6p on some nights) are in the Boise mode I do not like of buy-one-get-one but that means the same person needs to order two cocktails. My ability to drink two cocktails without it 'hurting' the next day is in my rear view mirror and my husband never does as he's the designated driver. So for people like us a discount on a single drink would make us much more happy. Regardless, the space was so pleasant and we had come from a real estate and building developer meeting that had left me feeling the worse about things and that pretty first Pisco sour tasted so good going I did have another. (The coupe glass in which it was served is small after all.) Two expertly prepared cocktails for me for only $10 was a true bargain. PARKING: On street. A lot adjacent was largely empty but couldn't tell if it was open to public or reserved by monthly pay. ACCESSIBILITY: Wheelchair access symbol in the window and it is level in and throughout the small space. So it was surprising to find only high seating available at bar and banguette as that is not wheelchair accessible. I have had MS for 4 decades, am ambulatory with great difficulty and hoisting myself up into high seating - as I did this visit - is nearly impossible so I asked about standard height seating one might assume available (and required by Civil Rights law ADA so that people of my minority might be able to equally participate with all others) given the logo and given on my next visit a "hoist" might not be at all doable. The nice bartender told us he had a 'flip down' top at the bar that he could flip down to seat two people if standard seating was needed. BE NOT AFRAID BEER DRINKERS!: They had about five on tap including Crux Pilsner and Anderson Valley Bourbon Barrel Stout. WINE DRINKERS: I am. But here I wouldn't. The list is not much. But with such great cocktails, no worries! read more

This is perhaps the closest thing Boise will have to a speakeasy. Love the lowkey fancy vibe I get when I come inside, peak behind the big curtain and I'm welcomed by a dim dark welcoming ambience. This place is perfect for groups or just to hang on your own. Most of the time, when I hang out downtown, I like to end my night at this spot with a refreshing old fashioned, sit at the bar as the bartenders attempt some crazy pyro tricks with the drinks. Not only entertaining but fantastic drinks! Highly recommend, ten out of ten! read more

I recently went to the Adelmann Building for a night out. First, to The Spacebar, second to Dharma Sushi & Thai, and I thought well I'll just make it a trifecta then. Press & Pony is only about 5 feet away from where I am. 5 feet later, I did what the chalkboard said (very Alice in Wonderland) and stepped through the Baroque velvet curtains into a dimly lit room. The lighting is excruciatingly frustrating if you want to take decent pictures but really excellent for looking sultry without trying. #Effortless I sat at the bar where there were two dapper bartenders wearing mustaches, suspenders, and overall looking very 1920s. This matched the music which I recognized as Parov Stelar (remixed swing music from the 20's) that was being played at a reasonable volume. Service was fabulous and I was never forgotten about. I had a ginger beer which was great, not sweet enough to kill a unicorn, but just right. Light from the chandelier overhead, along with the candlelight flickering off of my drink, made for nice ambiance. This is a fantastic place for kicking off or ending a night out. In my case, it ended a night out and I walked about 3 yards to my car. Convenience at its finest. Pro tip: Read all the reviews, especially if you fancy an Old Fashioned. Another tip: Acoustics are great here so please, say nice things. Last tip: There is a slight feeling of uneasiness (it's an old building) but it disappears after awhile and ordering alcohol would probably help with that. read more

I've managed to find them in various places across the US with my husband and wanted to give this place a go....becauae a bar of this kind in Boise just seemed to good to be true. A speakeasy it is not, other than walking through a curtain to get into the bar, and another curtain to get to the bathroom, but a good bar none the less. An excellent cocktail menu, mostly charming bartender (also promised in previous reviews) and easy to find. I didn't venture too far in to the menu, but I bet this place can really swing on the right Friday or Saturday night. Press & Pony is the tavern equivalent to that British synth pop sensation "Just Can't Get Enough" by 80's alt-band extraordinaire Depeche Mode. Which, is to say--they're my jam. Not that the atmosphere is remotely 80's vintage. No...it's far more vintage than that. In fact, it borders on the antique--with its low lit copper topped bar haloed by old fashioned lanterns. Even the bartenders with their suspendered, mustachioed charm harken to a simpler time. Which, let's face it, is just plain cool. But, hey--atmosphere and bartender style aside--how are the drinks? My people. Masterfully crafted--inventive with classic underpinning--tongue tingling ambrosia Which, is to say--exceptional. I have had occasion to try a few of their cocktails. Their Old Fashioned is an ample, distinctive, luxurious delight. The Denim Blazer is the pumpkin twist to that audacious flaming phantasmagorical wonder--the Blue Blazer. Their classic Manhattan is spot on perfect. But, where they really rocked my liquid loving socks--was with their La Manzana. Here's the thing--I dig tequila. But, what I've found, is that many of the upscale lounges that specialize in inventive mixology--do very little with the spirit. Vodka? Check. Gin? Check. Whiskey, Bourbon, Scotch, Rye? Check, check, check, CHECK! The best you can hope for with tequila is some obligatory, salt-rimmed, variation of a margarita. Hey...I'm not knockin' it. Who doesn't love a good margarita? But, I'm always left longing for a bit more. A cocktail that will take tequila's pithy, pronounced pungency and weave it into an alchemists dream. La Manzana does just that. Light, lovely, and lemony, with the lush elegance of elderflowers and autumnal apples--La Manzana is silky sublime indulgence It's just. that. good. Beyond the atmosphere and drinks--their bartenders are incredibly knowledgable about the spirits they mix, certainly, but also about the history and evolution of alcohol. But with house-made Cola-yes, free of corn syrup and coloring-along with other tinctures and flavorings, it's clear this is a labor of love. A small group of friends tried out predominately classic cocktails: Moscow Mule served without the copper cup, a Margarita and a Mint Julep. Also tried a cocktail crafted in house. My Margarita was a bit underwhelming. Wasn't quite zippy enough for my taste. But the alcohol used was quality. We all preferred the house concoction but the name of it eludes me; it's something along the lines of O.D. OPC. It made good use of cream and pepper. Yum. Bar itself is super small. Not for large groups. Would have liked a bit more light. Was intimate but a little dreary. The solitary bartender got slammed before closing so service wasn't especially attentive, but he had the joint to run all by himself. I'll go back for more in house creations. I have been here a few times and I enjoy the dark, hidden atmosphere. This time around I got to the joint about 4:45 and plopped right down at the bar. My bar genius was a joy to mingle with. He had such a wonderful personality, easy to chat with, and of course he made great drinks. I am always a little overwhelmed with all the fancy shmancy drink choices so I left my drink preferences on the table. Not too sweet, fresh tasting and no whiskey. My bar genius mixed me up a gin, lime and another refreshing addition to make up my first drink of choice. The second round of drinks I told him I wanted something just as delicious as the first drink. My genius mixed up what he called a "Symphony #1."
