This was a quick stop on our way through Boise. Came in at 8:15 (they close at 9) and you could tell they had just gotten through a huge dinner rush for the World Cup match. The server was still so friendly even though you could tell he was the only one working tables and the bar. Our food came out quickly and was delicious. Great wings and really good pizza. The crust was not too thick and not too thin. Also had a really tasty Mango hard cider. read more

My friend was headed upstairs for a meeting. So, I stopped in here and met another friend that happened to be near by. I noticed they a few Great Notion beers on tap, this excited me. The bartender was, Joe. He was excellent and offered me a taste of each to make it easier to choose which one I preferred. I decided to also get some food. My friend had already eaten, so I had an entire personal size pie to myself. It came out quick and it was sooo good, I ate the whole thing! I would 100% recommend this place. Shut "The Front Door". I went in with a group of 14 other people on a Monday evening for dinner. Monday evening - not busy at all. Three of us in the party decided to split a pizza. We decided on the "Capo", basically a combo with peperoni and sausage, olives, and red and green peppers. Cooked peppers always taste bitter to me, so I asked to have the peppers put only only half the pizza so I could skip them. 35 minutes later the pizza shows up with lots of green and red peppers all over the pizza, and pepperoni only on half. The waiter tried to serve it to others in the group, and needed to be redirected to us. He set the pizza in front of me, and WITHOUT apology, said the person working in the kitchen misread his note and made it incorrectly. The waiter did NOT offer to have the pizza remade, and did NOT ask if we wanted it. Just set it down and left. So I got what I did not order and did not want to eat. To add insult to injury, we were charged a 20% gratuity. Didn't matter how bad the service was - just pay it. The mis-made pizza was not discounted. Wrong thing but made to pay full price for it. Wrong pizza offered to wrong customers at full price and full tip. This place does not care about customers. I'm not going back. Neither should you. read more

This is a great small place on 6th St. perched at the bottom of the stairs to the Reef. It can get a bit crowded this time of year because the patio dining is closed. Decent discount on well drinks during 3-6 M-F. Always great high temperature pizza. Best recommendation is to get two personal pizzas instead of the large one. The small ones are of higher quality and taste better. All of them have the delicious burned edges and bottoms. The "dough is great" is heard whenever people take their first bite. The chicken Caesar salad is a fan favorite. Our best experience has been with their Goodfella pizza. We have heard fabulous praise for their Mac & Cheese stuffed pizza. read more

Cool ass little Italian joint right below the Reef. I ordered the cobb salad with a couple modifications. It was huge and delicious! I was also able to try the garlic bread. It came with a good helping of marinara sauce. The meatballs were ok, they were on the dry side but had a good amount of sauce and cheese in top. There was only one server and he did an amazing job maintaining our drinks, checking up on us and serving others diners that were eating. I look forward to going back. read more

Holy! Loved the atmosphere, loved the pizza. My husband is pretty critical when it comes to pizza... this place did not disappoint! Trivia nights on Wednesdays was so fun!! The workers are great and very laid back. It's a cool place to go and hangout with friends - it's not a big restaurant so I don't recommend groups. Really surprised about this one. Based on other reviews and Yelp Pictures I was optimistic that this would be a hit. Sadly I came up short on that. First issue if you will was the Tomato Soup I ordered. The picture on Yelp looked amazing, the product received looked and tasted more like pizza sauce. Still suspect I was duped. Nonetheless, I ordered a Margherita of sorts with pesto drizzle. It came out slightly different from that. It wasn't bad, but then again it wasn't great. Room for improvement here. All in all, it was ok. A few tweaks and this place and subsequent review can go from ok to fantastic. read more

Friendly service and cozy space. We enjoyed the tasty IPAs, delicious garlic bread and pizza, and amazing jalapeño poppers. Four of us loved the Goodfella pizza. The crust was as good as the toppings, the mozzarella was high quality (not stretchy/rubbery), and there was just the right amount of artichokes. The poppers were more like stuffed jalapeños, spicy and super yummy. And we really liked the Triceratops IPA. We'll be back the next time we're in Boise. read more

Ooooh... the Food and price were great! Also, there are lots of options! We were so hungry and we saw this spot and decided to stop and eat supper there. We were when we entered the store and told us when we were ready they would take our order. They were very friendly and talked to us off and on the whole time, we were there waiting on our order and eating supper. The mac & cheese pizza was a game changer!!! I think that everyone in the area should give this place a try. It's just a plain wonderful experience with a great atmosphere and super good pizza with a lot of choices. read more

Pretty tasty pizza! I've been to Front Door plenty of times and it has never disappointed. All of their pizzas are delightful. They are also massive if you get the biggest size (yay leftovers)! The service is always great here. They're very accommodating. My family could not get into a restaurant over the holidays and failed to make a reservation anywhere early enough. We called front door and they were short staffed, but willing to accommodate our family. It was very nice of them! They also usually have a great beer selection as well. read more

I really only have 1 rule when it comes to picking a great restaurant. I only need the people fixing and serving the food to care as much about it as I do. Ok - well - it can be better than that. And in this case it was. I came in for a quick lunch. I'm traveling from back east for work, my expectations were admittedly low. But Nathan, David & Lucas sort of blew me away. Some of the best pizza I have had anywhere. A group of us ordered a couple pizzas, garlic bread and a few beers. The pizza crust was crisp, light and obviously fresh. The red sauce sweet and full of flavor not acidic like many others. Excellent selection of beer. Very impressed with the local selection. What a great experience!! The bartender, Isaiah, is an exceptional waiter - personable, knowledgeable and a good listener! Refills were delivered promptly. He and the kitchen staff took my food allergy questions seriously & double-checked ingredients to ensure I had amazing choices and could eat safely with the others in my party. And the food !?!?!?!? Really, REALLY good pizza! As transplants, we had not yet found a favorite pizza place, but that search is OVER! Who knew a "mac & cheese" pizza could be so flavorful? Even the adults were delighted! The "under 10 crowd" declared it "magnificent!" (yes, really!). And the Bootlegger may be THE perfect bbq chicken pizza!!! The ambiance is pub-like but completely family friendly (before 10 pm). OK... admittedly I have one situation that wasn't ideal... We had called ahead for reservations and were walking to the restaurant... and... (even though using our phone's navigation app) walked right past!! Obviously, we did find the right "front door". Despite this small initial snafu, we count this a 10/10 experience and I will look forward to a return!! This is our favorite restaurant for pizza and a good selection of craft beers. The Irish Idahoan pizza is our favorite, by far. We are vegetarians so we substitute red onion and bell pepper for steak and bacon. The crust is perfect as is the combination of veggies and cheese on top. The waiters are always friendly and helpful (Kenzie was especially friendly and professional). To walk down into the restaurant it looks like a neighborhood bar. But it is soooo much more. read more

She told me all the things she added, and it was clear, these bartenders are the real deal. They know their stuff. I drank my delightful cocktail way too fast. But it was so damn good. The vibe is fun. They bartenders interact with everyone and do all kinds of cool things with cool ingredients and tell you about it all. Perfect spot for a loungey date night, or a meet up with a friend. There is no food. But plenty of spots on 8th in walking distance. This is probably one of the best cocktail bars I've ever been to. ... and I've been to a lot. :)

Like this bar changed my whole perspective on the whole state of Idaho being a California transplant, which doesn't hold that much weight with other people in Idaho, but I don't care. I will always come here anytime I come downtown and I will always overtip because the likes of Ruby and Darien never disappoint, including the regulars, whom are also always nice. For every overrated cactus bar with the worst service, there is the mode lounge which sets the standard for everything in Boise.

A small window in the door opened and we had to provide a password to gain entry. (Initially our large group had to reserve 3 time slots and we would be seated separately.) I was in the first group. We were let into a small area with floor to ceiling bookcases. Of course there was a book that once pulled, opened a secret door to the bar within. The ambiance was dim lighting and groups of comfortable seating areas. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the drinks on the menu. I started with a mocktail that could be made vegan by omitting the egg white. Beautifully presented with a flower design. It was sweet and it was tart. The second drink I got was a cocktail that was smooth with a perfect amount of sweet. My friends got cocktails in their unique glasses. When our next group came through, they were led into a room. After a while, one friend came out to say hello to us. The waiter noticed that we knew each other and told my group to follow him. The room was dimly lit and was furnished with comfortable armchairs and couches. Our third group was able to join us in the room and we were able to mingle seated or standing. The different drinks that were ordered were so cool. A smoky bubble was set on top of a cone shaped glass that resembled an ice cream cone. I had a couple of friends that ordered gin drinks and they were served in a bathtub complete with rubber ducky! This was such a fun and special way to celebrate a friend's birthday! Imagine yourself walking through the 8th St promenade in downtown Boise. It's hustling and bustling with people and restaurants that are packed. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see an alley. It's kinda dark, maybe a little unsettling at first. You see a steel door with a small panel at the top of the door. No door handles but a green lit old stagecoach light, a small wooden sign hanging g just beyond the door with a key on it. Hmmm, strange. In faded sharpie letters it says Knock knock on the metal door, so you knock twice. The panel on the door slides open and they ask for the password. Whoa!!!! Luckily you called ahead to make reservations so they whispered it to you. You give the password and door opens to a tiny little library with a couple of shelves full of books. The hosts welcomes you and you stare at the bookshelf knowing it isn't just a bookshelf but a door. You try pulling on different books guessing which is the right one but after a minute the hostess shows you and you enter a beautiful brick walled 1920s decorated room with seats and dim lights and no windows whatsoever. The artwork is prohibition-era themed. Heck, there's even a stack of wooden barrels that supposedly hold spirits. That is exactly the speakeasy experience you are looking for. We were seated in the boiler room, a private area which had beautiful wooden lockers with glass doors all lit up and full of booze. Books line the wall and there is an old fireplace covered with candles that have melted wax all over the mantle. In the corner is a poker table. Really the perfect vibe for a speakeasy. Glance at the menu and notice their tang of cheaper to very rare and unique spirits, some costing hundreds of dollars for a shot. Whisky, vodka, rum, gin, scotch, bourbon, you name it. But also check out their cocktails. They can even make mocktails if you don't want alcohol. Not only are the drinks unique but so is their presentation. The glades used I've never seen. Some drinks have a printed pattern on them, others come with dry ice that quickly evaporates or a cool smoked filled bubble. The whole experience was just amazing. This is a do not miss opportunity if you like drinks and cool, unique experiences. They even have another room in the back called the Garrison Room which looks like a mineshaft. I just love the thought put into this place. And when you are done, you exit through a nondescript door and exits to a patio area of another restaurant and back out to the promenade. Just a wow experience! So glad I did it.

The food was poorly executed across the board. The eggs Benedict was served as actual boiled eggs with hollandaise that had an off taste and was inedible. My biscuits and gravy were also underwhelming, with overcooked eggs and undercooked, greasy bacon that made the plate difficult to eat. Service was slow and inconsistent. My one coffee refill took an extraordinarily long time, and my girlfriend's specialty coffee--which was the most expensive item we ordered--was never followed up on once it was finished. We also waited a long time just to get the check, almost as long as it took us to pick at our meal. When the server finally returned, my plate was cleared but her uneaten food was left sitting. Overall, the experience felt worse than even basic diners. We won't be returning.

My omelet was hearty. Prettily garnished with fresh pico. The potatoes were golden topped with fried okra on top. My biscuit looked like it came out of the oven with a side of butter and jam. This plate of mine was going to get devoured! My omelet was fluffy stuffed with bacon, green peppers and onions. I also grabbed a side of sausage gravy to go with it and the gravy was the perfect match for my potatoes. The gravy and omelet was a winning combination too! Ughhhh it was so good. I ate so much of my omelet and potatoes that I ended up taking my biscuit home. I am planning to eat the rest of my potatoes and omelet for lunch later! I also got the pleasure of meeting Mr. John Berryhill. My friend, Tod are friends with John so it was great to see them interact and conversate with one another. I was dining with my daughter, who uses a wheelchair, and his warmth and attentiveness made us feel especially comfortable and appreciated. The restaurant still has the lively atmosphere and unique service style that makes it stand out. The staff was friendly, and the overall experience was enjoyable. As for the food, I was a little disappointed with the beignets this time around. They were much doughier than I expected and didn't have the light, fluffy texture I was hoping for. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but it was definitely the one item that missed the mark for me. That said, Bacon continues to be a great spot for breakfast and brunch, and the hospitality we experienced during this visit left a lasting impression. Meeting the owner and seeing how much he cares about his guests made this return visit memorable, and I'll certainly be back to try more of the menu.

The focaccia was ok but not memorable and our drinks took awhile to arrive. When they did, they were ok but not great (too much ice, almost tasteless). Our entrees arrived and I was surprised to receive only 6 clams with my fettuccini. Seemed a bit sparse for the upcharge. I think shrimp would have been a better match or mussels and more of them. (From the photos I see online, the dish should come with more clams). The pasta was fresh but bland and unexciting. My partner had the bucatini carbonara and said it was similarly bland and the meat was overcooked to the point he didn't even finish it. We were excited for the tiramisu as well since it's a dish we love. What we received was very lackluster, near tasteless and scant in both presentation and portion. We honestly feel that TJs frozen tiramisu is better than the one we had that night. Overall, we expected much more. It wasn't terrible but truly disappointing. We won't be back as there are many better options in Boise for foodies to enjoy.
