Iced Americano on a cold day
    Michael G.

Most of the time, I look up what I want on yelp and pick what businesses I'm going to support that way. On this occasion, I wandered around until I stumbled upon a coffee shop and it definitely worked for me this time. I'm an iced americano with 1 Splenda kind of guy and feel like this is a good baseline to judge a shop and this shop passed with flying colors. I really did enjoy my coffee in a setting that was true to form a coffee shop. The only thing missing was Phoebe singing "Smelly Cat" and I know I'm aging my myself with that reference but for my fellow old folks, you get what I mean.

I'm a fan after this mornings visit for my second breakfast!! Great espresso coffee drinks and a limited, but largely healthy food menu I found more than adequate for my tastes! Turkey scrambled eggs with sourdough toast and nice touch of peanut butter instead of ham on toast. My dog ate most of the peanut butter though Second dish was my yogurt, granola, and fruit bowl. Outstanding, everything fresh, including the granola!!! You order and pay inside and your food and drinks brought to your table. I absolutely love places like this when not too crowded and you don't have to queue up to order. I was in on Wednesday morning. No wait. I expect this is not the case on a weekend. Located on a nice tree-lined street just a couple blocks from the Capitol building in Boise. If you want free street parking, you may need to be ready to drive around a bit. I found a surface fee lot on 2 blocks away. Very clubby and inviting on inside. Super friendly service at the counter. I sat outside at one of the 6-7 tables that line the side of the building along 6th street. Some trees provide nice shade. $35-$40 for 2 with tax and tip. Pretty good value. This is a winner for me. Whole experience made me smile.

Java is a great little place. Wonderful drinks to get the day going. I am yet to try the "bowl of soul" but looking forward to the day I do. Slightly long line to order but food came pretty quick. I ordered the High Protein Turkey Scramble. Nothing crazy but cant complain. Also got the Huevos Rancheros- different than typical Huevos Rancheros (see pic). Java has a great vibe and everytime I stop I am satisfied. Lovely workers and ambiance.

Always busy for breakfast but I understand why. Everything cooked from scratch and delicious coffee. Could not ask for more I. A simple breakfast. A favorite

Java is a great meeting spot for business meetings, catching up with friends or working! There's a variety of seating and very well spread out so other's don't hear your conversation. For a coffee spot they have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. I settled on Todd's Competitive Edge and it did not disappoint. I had the choice of plain or vanilla yogurt. The Pumpkin Spice Latte (with Almond Milk) was better than the big corporate chain The staff is friendly, helpful and attentive. When you order food they bring it out to you.

Excellent chai tea latte, latte, confetti eggs, oatmeal and California club sandwich! Only recommendation is for them to heat their tortillas more.

Java used to be my favorite coffee place in Boise. I would much rather support a local business than a big chain like Starbucks. I just ordered my usual "Bowl of Soul" and added 3 extra shots of espresso. It was $12.14! Needless today this is ridiculous! Java you will lose support in the community with prices like that. Your staff will suffer too as no one can afford to tip with a $12 coffee! Shame on you!

Stepped into Java from the biting cold and was immediately enveloped by warm smiles and a glowing ambiance. I approached the counter where Annaprinna, with a friendliness that could thaw a snowstorm, shared her current favorite - the Irish Cream Latte. Without hesitation, I went for it. As Kai masterfully steamed the oat milk, I anticipated a good cup of joe, but what I got was a revelation in a cup. Having been a barista and a patron of many a coffee shop from Starbucks to the quaint Banduccis, I thought I knew my lattes. But this? This was a symphony of flavor, a silky, creamy masterpiece that lingered on the palate long after the last sip. Java isn't just a coffee shop; it's a destination for those in pursuit of the perfect latte...

    Iced Bowl Of Soul

Java is one of my favorite coffee shops in town, both the location in Hyde Park and downtown Boise. It gets pretty busy, but it's worth the wait for sure. The bowl of soul is perfection, both hot in the winter and iced for the summer. They also might have the most extensive food menu for a coffee shop in town. They have a full kitchen so they have breakfast burritos, eggs Benedict, etc. The Benedict is my personal dish of choice.

We saw a young couple get frustrated with how packed it was and left, but what do you expect on a Friday night, this isn't a fast food place. We stuck around and placed our order. Got lucky because they only do Fish Fry's on Fridays! Ordered the prawns and fish, got two order of buffalo wings, Mac and cheese, chipotle wrap, and kids burger. Fish was amazing!! Tasted Fresh! Not frozen! I was really not sure what to expect and faced my fears and ordered it. I can say it was some of the best fried fish I've had no lie. I was super pleased with it! Next time I'll try just the fish and chips in hopes that it comes with one more piece. The prawns were skinny ones and I wasn't too fond of them but the fish the main dish was perfect! Wife and bro-in law got an order of wings each and they were both super happy with them, I snagged 3 and would say top 5 wings I've had. Sister got the chipotle wrap and she said it was really good! Wife also got the mac n cheese with bacon and her and the kids loved it. Kids burger was able to split between two kids and they tore it up along with the mac n cheese! We had a great experience! Just be patient with staff and cooks, they get bogged down and you have to expect that or be ready to order fast when you're there.

Plan to circle the block several times if you want to be close. Otherwise plan on parking and walking. When we walked in, 5:30-ish on a Thursday evening the bartender told us to sit wherever we wanted. There were two booths and a couple of other tables available. It took several minutes for anyone else to acknowledge us and bring us menus. When asked, the waitress didn't know what beers were on tap, but did have them all written down. That was helpful. Also seemed to have a good selection of "house" cocktails, which would be fun for happy hour or a game day. Vibe is definitely sports bar on a college campus, but the patrons were not college-aged. As others have commented, great overhead music. While we were there it was 70s classic rock. Now for the food - all great! Hubby gor the finger steaks, and while the breading looked very dark, he said they didn't taste burnt or overcooked. They came with BBQ sauce and an Asian-ish sweet-chili-horseradish sauce. Not cocktail sauce and very weird. I got The Grateful Shed burger with tots. It was delicious! Served on a brioche bun that could not stand up to the burger and how juicy it was. But that's what a fork is for. The candied bacon on it was so good. And the tots! Crispiest I've have in all of the treasure valley! It did take quite a while for the food to come out. I had a good view of the kitchen so I know it wasn't the wait staff. And its never good to see tables that ordered after us get their food before us. That's the only reason for a 4 star rating. If you aren't in a hurry, and maybe don't mind walking for parking, I'd definitely recommend The Shed!

Bittercreek provided me with just what I needed today. Warm and inviting service and a terrific selection of food and beverages for me to enjoy. Dined alone at the bar and everyone that I came into contact with did what I expect. Timely greet and informative service personnel. Hats off to the whole team. Was talked into a Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley and it was spectacular. I usually stick to Willamette Valley reds but went for it after a tiny taste. It's what I needed but didn't know it until it was offered. Too many times I stick to my wheelhouse and don't stray but was coerced by someone who I assumed was the inhouse shotcaller. I had two glasses and it went well with the Bowl of Corn Chowder I was told about. Served hot and with some semi crusty sourdough that hit the spot. Finished every spoonful and it brought me back to my time in New England. The soup was done right for sure. Noone trying too hard which is an issue when trying to recreate a coastal favorite while land locked in the mountain state of Idaho. Right before I had.my second glass of Chardonnay, I asked "the front of the house shot caller" about the selection of Rums and was offered a taste of one that could have been a contender for my follow up beverage. No mixer needed. Would have made a great sipper, as most good rums can be but I elected for the second glass of Chardonnay. Glad that I did. Was feeling a bit buzzed and full from my meal and had to exit stage left before trying a dessert. I'm sure it would have been epic but I'm thin for a reason and don't overindulge. Thank you Bittercreek! My visit with you all made me wonder why I hadn't been in since 2006 or 2007. I'll, certainly, be visitong more often and will bring others with. You've got a fan in me!

By coincidence when walking around town I spotted it and had to go try. I'm a sucker for biscuits and gravy and these definitely beat what you would find in a Denny's or IHOP by a landslide on the taste and aesthetic scale! It's super filling since there's so many carbs, but the taters (more like small potato wedges) are actually a clever add-in. They add a slight bit of texture to the mushiness of the gravy-soaked biscuits, and potatoes and gravy are already best friends in terms of food pairings. There's also garnish on top (some sort of greens and cheese) that gives it a nice look and extra flavor. Delicious! I didn't think much of the customer service initially aside from thinking they were super friendly. However, I sat down at one of the tables and took my time eating and people watching. So many people came by the store to talk to the chefs with such familiarity that it felt like this popup was its own restaurant and community. It hasn't reached a point of popularity where it's flooded with people, but the more I look back on the experience, the nicer I feel about it. Even after a lot of time had passed and the staff had already helped out so many people, when I left, they called out my name and it made me wish I could go back again. The bread consistency was great, not too soggy, and with a great crispy texture. I wish they had spread the tri-tip out more to make sure every bite was being celebrated. I also ordered the mac and cheese as the side per the instructions of the bartender, James. Let me say that was one of the best mac and cheeses that I have ever had.
