    Beef stroganoff
    Sharon D.

An all day rainy day winter solstice called for some comfort food and what better place than Trillium at the Grove Hotel. Best perk of the night is the free valet parking when dining. Always stellar service and ambiance is prefect for date night. Creative cocktails and a fantastic wine list including my favorite Pinot from the Willamette, Adelsheim. The food does not disappoint! A mainstay on the menu for good reason is their beef stroganoff which is nothing like your grandma's. It's modern and upbeat and garlicky and so incredibly delicious that it goes straight to your heart. Please do not ever remove this dish from the menu I beg of you. Tonight we also had the Osso Bucco which comes out in a cast iron bowl brimming with so many flavors it's like a treasure hunt in every bite. Trillium is at the very top when it comes to fine dining in Boise.

    The freshest coffee today

I asked my friend where he wanted to go for his birthday breakfast and without hesitation he said Trillium. I made us a reservation at 10 for today. I didn't know how busy it was going to be since The Grove is such a popular hotel. I didn't have a bad nor good experience last time so I made sure I came in with an open mind this time around. Walking in, I was instantly greeted by 2 gentleman. Santos let me choose a booth or table. I loved the emerald green love seats at the booth so I sat and waited for the birthday boy. My server was busy with another table so Santos was kind and got my coffee started. Amanda came and greeted us. The birthday boy showed up not much after my coffee was dropped off . She got our orders squared away and more coffee refilled for us. I checked the menu out online and the birthday boy is a regular so we knew what we wanted. Ordering was fast and easy today. I got the classic breakfast today. 2 eggs, sausages and fruit. The eggs were cooked perfectly, I wanted them fried a little harder since I passed on the toast today. My favorite part of my meal was the fruit cup. Talk about an amazing fruit cup. There were your basic watermelon, grapes, pineapple, cantaloupe and honeydew but it also had raspberry, blueberries, cherries, strawberries and blackberries. You got a healthy portion of fruit and it was so fresh. You also get two sausages with your classic breakfast, I had one. The sausage was kinda hard and dry, it wasn't that good. Amanda was sweet and got Tod a birthday treat. He picked orange creme brulee. This dessert was perfection. The sugar crust was crunchy and a little bitter so complimented the sweet orange creme nicely. The orange creme was delightful and rich. I love the fresh strawberries and blackberries on top. The strawberries and orange creme was the ultimate bite. It was an impeccable birthday treat! I appreciate that everyone came and said hi to Tod. Everyone was so nice and helpful. When Amanda wasn't available, someone was always checking up on us. I love that they recognize Tod as a regular and the servers interacted with him. It's transactions like that that make me miss serving so much, the relationships you create with your customers. Today was a good visit at Trillium. I know I'll be back for the orange creme brulee. It was too good not to have again.

Great spot for breakfast - terrific server Amanda took care of us. The omelet was delicious and you have a choice of sides. I highly recommend the local Acme bread toasted, accompanied by scrumptious huckleberry jam. The cheddar cheese biscuits and gravy were underwhelming-- gravy needed so much more seasoning and were disappointing., especially at this price point. The eggs were cooked as ordered. Excellent coffee. Weird encounter with the host when we walked in. I asked him if we could still get breakfast because it was a few minutes before 11 when breakfast service ends. He said "No" without any smile so I didn't realize he was just acting out his apparently snarky self. Way to start with a poor impression man!

My wife and I went in on date night. We had to read a review on the meatloaf . It was supposed to be the best meatloaf in Idaho . The meatloaf was great tasting, but I thought it was a little dry.. I had to ask for more reduction. The service was not bad and the orange crème brûlée was so so..

We tried Trillium for the first time for my birthday and it was the perfect way to celebrate! Delicious food, amazing staff, and a pleasant ambiance. Food: 5/5. Everything from drinks to appetizers, entrees and dessert was absolutely amazing! To drink I had the Huck Rita and the Crime of Passion. Both were great, but I think I preferred the tropical flavors of the Crime of Passion. We started with the smoked trout poutine, which was phenomenal! I could not recommend it more! For entrees we had the short ribs and the steak frites. Again, phenomenal. The grits that come with the short ribs are such a delicious side. We got to torte to go for dessert and since it was my birthday they put a candle in the to go box which was such a touching thought! Service: 5/5. Everyone was very professional and our service was fairly quick. Our waters were filled continuously and the waitress was friendly and outgoing. Atmosphere: 4/5. I really liked the ambience of the restaurant. It felt modern and cozy. It was a little brighter than similar restaurants. Kid friendly: 2/5. Not somewhere I would recommend taking kids. I didn't notice a kids menu or high chairs. Save this place for a nice date night away from the kids.

    Farm Girl

I got the Huckleberry BBQ Turkey + Brie Sandwich and the Farm Girl Drink. If you love ginger and kombucha you'll love the Farm Girl. It was definitely my favorite. 5/5 As for the sandwich, I didn't taste the huckleberry and there was barely any Brie. I would give it a 3/5. I wouldn't get it again. Our server was very kind and attentive and our waters were always filled without asking. The place wasn't too busy and it had a nice volume to it: not too loud or too quiet. I could hear the others at my table easily.

Two enterprising young women are owners of this gem of a popular West Bench neighborhood gathering…read morespot that they created in what was an old dump of a 1950's era strip mall space and funded in part with crowd sourcing. Being curious since they opened this in Fall'ish 2024 and finding myself in the neighborhood, this was a destination stop for my husband and me when we went in about 11:30 on a weekday for coffee and a nosh. Pride of ownership shines in the clean and funky feeling interior and it is clearly popular because it was full, almost every seat, of people that seemed from the neighborhood, including a number of parents with young children. They advertise this as coffee and market, but I honestly didn't notice the market part, in that things for sale didn't jump out at me. That may have been because I was just trying to navigate to a seat in and out in the crowded space. THE MO: Coffee and the limited menu for food is ordered at the counter, carry to your seat and bus your own when finished. Although we were the only people at the counter and there were two people in the kitchen, it took quite some time for someone to come to take the order, although once someone finally saw us, they were pleasant, if not welcoming, in taking the coffee order and then again when my hubby went back to order pastries to go with it. MENU: Coffee, other beverages and a very small option of eats is listed behind the counter and on a paper menu there. Options included soup of the day and Gaston's bakery pastries. There were some breakfast sandwiches by local provider Poppyseed Bakery in the fridge section, we weren't told about them but seeing them when passing by the fridge on a trip to the loo, asked if they could be heated and were told they could be. We chose a couple of pastries ($5.50 each) and were reminded why we seldom buy Gaston's products for being too buttery and one note. The cortado ($4) were good. I noticed a woman at the table across from us who was sipping a beverage and eating what looked like a sandwich she had carried in. I don't know if that is part of allowable stuff or not. The pottery used for all of their coffee service, ours and the mugs at other tables, is great. AMBIANCE: They did an admirable job here of making this light and bright and just funky enough with pride of ownership and loving care in maintenance sparkling through. Seating includes a few level in, not step up, booths along one wall, a sofa and chairs near the front and many standard height tables and chairs (maybe too many when all full as getting to seat is tough) and a play area for kids in the corner. It had far less comfortable 'breathing room' space than I anticipated from photos. But I didn't take interior photos to post because I think it is rude to do that when lots of people are going to be in them who maybe don't want to be. ;-) LOO: There are two and both are uni and sparkling clean with great murals on the wall and good plumbing fixtures. My husband even pointed out the "cool" sink. Both are ADA compliant so kudos to them for that. (Yes, it is law and code but you'd be astounded by how many ignore both.) ACCESSIBILITY: One ADA parking spot right outside the door. (There are too few spots for the parking lot but that is not the coffee shop owners' failure. That is the lot owner's issue.) Level in the door. All on one floor. The tables would probably work for a wheelchair user to roll under. But it would be near impossible, based on my experience yesterday (I have had multiple sclerosis since age 20 and sometimes use a wheelchair) for a wheelchair user to get between tables and chairs for a clear path of travel to get to seating or the loo.

So it was delightful when The Sturiale Place reopened last month (May 2018) as warm and wonderful as ever for ambiance in the lovingly restored old house, hospitality, service and food. With a revised and bit expanded menu and a new young Chef in the kitchen, formerly Executive Chef at a Portland area McMenamins, this was a unique little gem before and the changes have polished it even brighter. Our first lunch after re-opening was as delightful as the others we enjoyed here last year (see my previous review for details). This time we enjoyed being able to try new menu items like green salad with Delicata squash and herbed goat cheese (half order $7.50), house made pappardelle with braised lamb Bolognese ($18) and mushroom Marsala on polenta ($13). As a great new surprise on the wine menu, manager Gina Sturiale (daughter of Rita) has added a really good white and red wine by the glass, like the nice Negroamaro my husband enjoyed, for as little as $5! The menu spans options from soup through appetizers and starter or main course sized salads through entrees to desserts. Prices range from $6 to $18. Total inside seating is limited to maybe 16 and maybe about that many on an outside deck. So this is not a place for big groups. It is likely not a kids' destination either.
