We moved to Star from out of state two years ago. We had read about Uncle Guiseppe's and wanted to try it, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Today, our friend brought us to Garden City to walk along the river, and then over to Uncle Guiseppe's for lunch. It is a small, seemingly authentic New York deli that serves a great number of different sandwiches, along with specialty drinks, like sodas, sparkling water, and lemonade. They also well things like pastries and, of interest to us, jarred roasted tomatoes. My wife had the #9 Monte Cristo, and I had the #3 Bonanza. Delicious. I also had a Manhattan Special Black Cherry soda, also super yummy. My mistake, not realizing what I was doing, was to order "whole" vs "half" sandwiches. The whole are footlong. I ate the entire sandwich, holy moly! My wife brought half home. Next time I would probably order a half. The owner, who I will call Guiseppe, had the heavy East Coast accent, and checked on all of his customers, making sure they were happy and satisfied. This place is a little gem. Service consists of ordering at the front counter, pay, and grab a seat in simple surroundings filled with deli case of goodies and more. A will come back for me. I had really high hopes for this place based on the 4.5 star average. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I ordered the # 9 Monte Cristo. The description said "Chicken Breast, Mozzarella, Bacon, and Cream Cheese. Served on Homemade Garlic Bread (Hot)" I expected it to be a somewhat flavorful sandwich with the garlic bread, but there wasn't even a hint of anything garlic related on this sandwich. It was extremely bland. There wasn't much bacon either. I thought for being a $15 sandwich, I'd get a lot more. My husband's sandwich was the #18 Gambino, a meatball sub. It was ok/average. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing on an off day. I will give them another chance. read more

The staff here is super friendly and take great care of you. They have baked goods as well as a great selection of sandwiches. They also have pasta, chocolates and bottled sodas as well as some other items as well. I was not in here for very long but the short while I was I couldn't stop looking around at all the items the offered. I got the #16 Giuseppe favorite and it was delicious. Loaded with meat, perfect amount of balsamic vinegar and oil, fresh tomatoes and lettuce, and fresh red peppers. Excited to go back to try another sandwich off their menu. What's not to like at Uncle Giuseppe's. Authentic New York Italian style sandwiches filled with goodness and delicious Italian dishes. This place is my go-to for lunch whenever I'm in the area. Uncle Giuseppe's ain't messin' around. This is Boise's most authentic Italian deli. My husband and I stopped in for a quick bite and left astonished that this place isn't talked about more. We arrived around 11:30 am on a Saturday to quite a few patrons. I'm glad I studied the menu online beforehand because it would have taken me 15 minutes to figure out my order. Every single sandwich sounded bomb. I bellied up to #16 Italian Giuseppe's (prosciutto, capocollo, sopressata, salami, mortadella, provolone, basil, roasted red peppers, oil dressing and balsamic vinegar). It tasted like it was made straight out of a New York deli. The freshest meat and cheese combined with that delicious balsamic was reminiscent of fun times in the Big Apple. My better half chose the #7 Frank Sinatra (prosciutto, cappi ham, hot capocollo, hot sopressata, mozzarella, peppers lettuce, tomato, onion serviced on homemade garlic bread). The couple bites I was able steal were phenomenal. It was similar to mine with a lot more kick. The garlic bread was delicious! While waiting in line, we fell victim to the yummy Italian Sandwich Cookies just staring at us. We got a good, varied bunch for only $13.00 which included Occhi di Bue (Italian Jam Cookies, Butter Cookies, Pizelle that we were told were "fresh from New York." We ate them all by the end of the day. They were SO GOOD. You can also grab authentic cooking items in the store, including that amazing balsamic vinaigrette and enormous pasta shells for stuffing. Driving through Boise on my way back home to Riggins area on St. Patrick's day. Wanted a Ruben sandwich to celebrate my Irish heritage. I called an ordered for pickup, the bread was soft, the corn beef and sauerkraut delicious, but there was too much mustard on the sandwich's. The sandwiches are absolutely delicious. Jimmy mentioned #16 and #25 are the most popular so my husband and I bought both and split them. They are both awesome. Uncle Giuseppe's is Boise's own, real deal, Italian deli and sandwich spot. Everything down from their cooking supplies imported from Italy, the American- Italian accents, and someone the staff called "Coach" enjoying their regular. When I first checked-in on Yelp, I got a few messages suggesting that I just ask what's good that day and get whatever the guy at the front says. So, that's just what I did!! The only follow up question I got was: "hot or cold" and I decided on a cold cut sandwich because I figured it would travel better. I'm not entirely sure what I ended up with, but it was delicious with a variety of different deli meats and just the right amount of saucy that didn't make the bread soggy. I also grabbed a tiramisu from their refrigerator and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I stoped here on a road trip through Idaho and got a quick to go sandwich. I ordered the Naples and maybe some of my disappointment is that I didn't make the best choice. After reading the reviews it seems a number of other sandwiches are very popular. The bread had balsamic on it which added great flavor but I really wanted lettuce and tomato with it once I started eating. The service was quick and friendly. The owner is so kind and patient, I was indecisive at first. I'm not one to venture on sandwiches but after reading the article on the wall I was like hmmm how can I not try the #16. So delicious and all the meats and cheese is carved right when you order. The bread is the perfect chewyness. Yes I know that's not a word. The soup of the day was clam chowder and on this chilly February day it hit the spot! Not too thick and packed with flavor. I also got one of the chocolate cannolis which is stuffed once you order so it's completely fresh! I can't wait to go back and try more.
