Fried Artichoke Hearts w/ Buttermilk Herb Ranch and Lemon Wedge
    Juli S.

Bistro Babe Tonight, I had a chance to visit one of my favorite food trucks in the Treasure Valley. I ordered the Reuben sandwich ($10) and the Crispy Artichoke Hearts with House Ranch ($5). I love a great Reuben sandwich and had been craving one for a couple of months now, so it was kismet finding it on tonight's menu. This Reuben is a classic with sliced pastrami, melted Swiss cheese, house thousand Island dressing and sauerkraut on Zeppole rye bread. It was delicious! The bread was perfectly grilled, with cheesy pastrami goodness oozing out the side. The Crispy Artichoke Hearts are the perfect appetizer. The slight tang of the artichoke goes perfectly with the salty crunch of the batter. Normally this is served with a wedge of lemon, which really enhances the flavor, but I think they forgot it on my order tonight. Even so, this appetizer has so much flavor that I didn't miss it much. I think this appetizer would go perfectly with an ice cold beer. Bistro Babe's menu changes frequently. They have begun posting their monthly menu on their Facebook page. The best way to keep track of Bistro Babe's whereabouts is to follow them on Facebook, Instagram and StreetFoodFinder, the free app for food trucks. Highly Recommended!!!

Wow wow wow! We grabbed the Italian Pressed sandwich, the El Jefe, and the fries. Without question, this is the best food truck we've eaten from in the entire state of Idaho, and we've lived here for 10+ years. I don't think there's another food truck like it that I know of. The fries are better than any other I've had, be that from a burger dive or high end steakhouse. I'd find this truck again just for the fries and fry sauce. The sandwiches are loaded with flavor (and portions). I could only eat half of my sandwich, but maybe that's because I gorged on the fries. The sandwiches coming out of this truck are some of the best I've had. On top of the food, the staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and very covid-conscientious. The service was relatively fast, especially considering the quality of the food. My only regret about this truck is not knowing about it sooner.

Last night at the Illumibrate we had the salmon and artichoke sandwich and grilled cheese sandwich that they won the award for with grilled onions and house made thousand island last night. We wanted the garlic fries but they had sold out. So we got the cauliflower. Every thing was FANTASTIC! I googled to see if they had a permanent bistro because I wanted to go again . I hope one day they get a store front.

We popped in here to ask about options and the woman working the counter, mom of this franchise owner I think, was so helpful in answering them. A very good introduction to the business. We will drop in again to try a small box for 2 as takeaway to pair with a glass of wine as casual picnic sometime at a local winery. But in general we are like that couple in Portlandia, you know the "Tell us a little bit about your chicken" people (if you don't know the bit I'll post a link below because when it first aired friends said "This is YOU" :-) ) and so we are more Olympia Provisions for charcuterie and local cheeses types. As example, we eat a mostly plant based diet and when we do eat animal proteins we buy them directly from local sustainable practice farmers. Which is no knock on this business,as they use good quality products, she brought some out to show us when we asked and these are better than you will likely get if you're picking up grocery store or big box store charcuterie trays. We also appreciated that as they can they use local veg and fruits here when those are on the trays. OPTIONS: Sizes range from a single serving "cup" ($8) to a box to feed two ($12) to boxes of other sizes and trays of multiple sizes with the top end of that designed to feed roughly 10 ($165). Photo boards in the shop show how the options are put together and a display over the counter shows prices. They offer Keto board options, Vegetarian Board options, Luxury options, Sweet Treat options that include fruit and chocolate and so on. You can also find general menu at the main company link here: https://www.grazecraze.com/menu CONVENIENT LOCATION: for picking up your order because they have a private parking lot associated with the strip mall in which they're location. For 'orientation', this is in the same complex as The Local. Also convenient location in Garden City as there are at least three, maybe as many as five, nearby winery tasting rooms where one can bring in their own eats and the grazing boxes would work well for that. ACCESSIBILITY: Parking lot has accessible (aka ADA compliant) parking which happy coincidence is just outside the door of this business. Shop is all on one level. "TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR CHICKEN..." BIT: His name is Colin. ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErRHJlE4PGI

Expect some awkwardness and maybe delays. They occupy an old Marie Callendars restaurant, still nice, clean, comfy. I've had both the Chicken Sandwich and the Turkey Club. Both are delicious, however, the turkey is like in shards, not a piece of meat, but shavings. A little weird. Tips do not go to servers, but to the program, which is great. They also do catering. The food quality is great, so give them a try.

The one thing to be aware of is that they're learning and it can take extra time to get things right. On our most recent visit, it took 45 minutes. The server explained that we were the first to order the daily special and it took a few tries to get it right. The Daily Special A dish that one of the students (the cook for the day) has dreamed up for the day, so it may not have been made but once prior to your visit. When you pay, you are asked to "Pay what you think it's worth". The special Philly with homemade cheese sauce was indeed incredible and worth every cent of being the best thing on the menu, so I paid top dollar! The good: Everything but the time it can take to get lunch. The meh As stated ya gotta plan 90 minutes for lunch. The bad Nothing to report.

My Rooster's bomb had amazing flavors, the sandwich was dripping with juice while eating it. Service was good. Food presentation wasn't nice, just plain but it isn't a high end restaurant. There's a lot of tables and bar type seating at the window. I loved the country type decor and all the roosters everywhere. It's a really cute venue. If I had to describe this restaurant, I would compare it to a cafeteria. You place your order and everything from that point on is self serve. We placed our order at the front register. I got the 2 eggs combo with sausage. My husband got the ham breakfast sammy with sourdough. We grabbed a table and our drinks while our food was being worked on. They has one coffee dispenser for coffee. The coffee looked really dark so I added some hot water to it. Unfortunately, with the addition of the hot water, my coffee was still luke warm. It was drinkable but it would have been nice to have a hot cup of it. My husband grabbed his drink from the soda machine. All of the straws, coffee creamers and utensils were on the side to help yourself to. Food came out pretty fast. My eggs were fried nicely. The sausage was warm but not really hot. The hashbrowns were nicely golden but not really hot. They did give me a good portion of the country gravy. The only thing that was piping hot was the pancake syrup that I got for my sausage. My husband enjoyed his sammy. He did appreciate that the ham was sliced thin and it wasn't a huge chunk of ham. After you're done, they have you clear off your own plates, silverware and cups. Tipping throws me off at this point cause what are we tipping you for? They don't fill got drinks, remove any of your plates or even check up on you. It truly is like a cafeteria. I guess I had a different impression of this joint. I thought it would be like any other breakfast joint in town. Roosters is a easy going venue if you're looking for an easy place to eat at. I'm happy I got to try it out but I probably won't be back.
