Kanak Express food truck, Sunday July 13th lunchtime at Green Acres Boise…read moreBeen awhile since I had visited Kanak Attack, the food truck started up in 2009 and the business model now includes a mobile group that supports fire fighter activities, as well as a permanent catering division at Lake Harbor with a restaurant. As with any food truck, some of the hardest part of finding them is knowing where to look. I've had the best luck by following Kanak on Instagram, but you can also look up Green Acres by Shoreline Drive on Pioneer street (new location) to see the multiple trucks scheduled that week. Another source I use a lot is the Treasure Valley Food Truck Finder (formerly Boise Food Trucks) on Facebook. Like most food trucks that feature proteins, the prices have jumped up in the last two-three years. A salad with protein is the best bet for bargain hunters at $10, or the three tacos (see menu photo) but I have found that getting the twenty dollar "Two Entree Plate Lunch" works out pretty good as it's usually enough for one meal immediately and another reheated in the microwave (rice) and air fryer (meat). The plate lunch includes a) choose a rice, b) choose a salad and c) choose a protein. My favorites are the Kalua Pig, which is smoky, shredded pork that is juicy, not overly fatty, but maybe to salty for some. I saved most of this and made enchiladas the next day at home. Teriyaki chicken is the same price, add a $1 for the Katsu Chicken which was juicy and crispy with the breaded fried exterior and includes a dipping sauce that's a little sweet and addictive, it's so good. Used to plain macaroni salad? Hawaiian style is a little different, but delicious and is usually the first side I finish. If you are a first timer, don't be afraid to ask for help figuring out what to order, the crew usually takes the time to answer questions and guide you. I ordered the shrimp with noodles and some crab Rangoon...seems like too much but I've been biking, hungry! When I say I don't know if I ordered right it is really because of the lack of flavor...which is strange. The shrimp were great, hot off the flat top, fresh, nice shrimp taste! The rest of the food, bland...except for the noodles that had a burnt oil flavor from the metal flat top...not at all appealing...don't have to worry about eating too much. The Crab Rangoon were bad as well! All fried wonton, no filling...like dime-bag full! Very easy to fold these for some better presentation but I think then it would really accent the fact they were basically empty of fillings. Would not recommend! He has blessed the treasure valley with amazing food and service. This food truck makes for a great lunch or dinner. Today's lunch consists of a side of fried rice, side veggies and some appetizers. The fried rice is so good! You can taste the garlic butter that's used to seasoned the rice. It's a great combination of buttery and savory. I love the minced up carrots and onions in the rice, it gives it great texture. The veggies are always cooked to perfection! I love the slight char the vegetables get from the hot grill. The zucchini and broccoli have a slight crunch to them and is not overcooked. The egg rolls were fried to a perfect golden brown. Crunchy and savory. The crab rangoons are my favorite! There's more than just cream cheese in the middle! You can taste the extra goodies in there, crab and green onion. The wrapping to cream cheese ratio is great! Paired with the sweet and sour sour, chef's kiss! It's always busy at the food truck. Everything is made fresh to order. Staff is always friendly. I have been sitting on my fingers since I learned this a week ago to not have to type the news into Yelp in the magical thinking that if it wasn't said it wouldn't be true. But, very sadly, it is. Not only have Aaron and Kelly (he the inaugural chef at Juniper and she the one time business manager for Coiled winery and other food businesses) contributed greatly to people who love to eat good food through their support of local growers and suppliers to use those ingredients in Aaron's remarkably delicious creations and modeled the best customer care, Kelly's ears should be burning for how many times her name comes up when conversations are had with others about examples of "how to" for extraordinary hospitality, they have contributed much to the Boise community by being really wonderful people. Boise is the better for them being here.

They occupy an old Marie Callendars restaurant, still nice, clean, comfy. I've had both the Chicken Sandwich and the Turkey Club. Both are delicious, however, the turkey is like in shards, not a piece of meat, but shavings. A little weird. Tips do not go to servers, but to the program, which is great. They also do catering. The server explained that we were the first to order the daily special and it took a few tries to get it right. The Daily Special A dish that one of the students (the cook for the day) has dreamed up for the day, so it may not have been made but once prior to your visit. When you pay, you are asked to "Pay what you think it's worth". The special Philly with homemade cheese sauce was indeed incredible and worth every cent of being the best thing on the menu, so I paid top dollar! They operate out of a trailer and have a whole set up of barbecues outside the trailer with an outdoor "kitchen". I was really hopeful for drop dead delicious barbecue because they look pretty serious and had a decent amount of people waiting in line. Service was friendly and reasonably fast. I ordered a brisket melt sandwich for $13. The size of the sandwich would be equivalent to a 1/4 pound cheeseburger. It came on a bun with melted cheese and the brisket. They serve dry with different barbecue sauces to add yourself. The barbecue sauce that I chose was just the basic option and it was pretty good. When I sat down to eat the sandwich, the first thing I noticed was the fatty cut of meat and many bites were about 50-50 fat and meat. it was decent but not a rave for a food truck.

There's pork ribs, pulled pork, bourbon meatballs, smoked chicken legs, sausages and many more choices, including potato salad, coleslaw, barbecue beans and macaroni and cheese. A cornbread casserole, from a family recipe, could be a meal in itself. It's really good. The ribs are really good, smoky and tender. As in true barbecue style, they're served plain, without sauce. It's up to diners to decide what kind of sauce they want and how much. There's a sweet sauce and a spicy one, Carolina mustard and a couple of bottled sauces from local company My FamilyTradition. Service was friendly despite them getting busy soon after they opened on a Wednesday. They also serve pub food from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. until the food runs out on Saturday (usually between 3 and 4 p.m.). I'm glad to see them reopen their restaurant to go with their custom smoking offerings and catering menu.

The quality, creativity, and attention to detail are on another level. We've eaten a lot of burgers over the years, and the beef heart burger was hands down the best burger we've ever had. Don't let the name scare you--it's absolutely incredible. We've been here three times now, and every visit has been consistently amazing. The food has always been fresh, flavorful, and worth coming back for. They also have a great selection of local craft beers on tap, which is a nice bonus if you enjoy trying something local with your meal. It's awesome to have a place like this in our hometown. If you appreciate real, homemade food and people who genuinely care about what they're serving, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. Using Yelp, we found Matlack's Public House Beergarten and liked the look of their sandwiches. We arrived 15min before they opened and wandered around a bit before heading back. The hostess/waitress took us in and thanked us for coming back (she must have watched us try to get in earlier). We got to pick our table in the dining area. The interior is smaller but very clean and classy. The only thing I didn't like were the chairs as they were benches and stools with no back support. I ordered the Santa Maria Tri-tip sandwich and an iced tea. My son also got the same sandwich. Their sandwiches all come with Fritos unless you're looking to spend more for a salad, mac & cheese or chili. This was the best sandwich I've had in years! The baguette had a little crunch on the outside but soft on the inside. The tri-tip was hickory and apple smoked and was tender and delicious. The chimichurri was a perfect accompaniment, as were the roasted poblano peppers. I also enjoyed the Fritos as the side. We also received top-notch service from the waitress. Good news, THEY DIDN'T! Pub-type atmosphere, lots of beer on tap. I can't remember which I ordered, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the Mac n Cheese without the breadcrumbs and the hubs ordered it and added bacon. It was creamy and yummy. I ended out taking some of my back to the room. It reheated well, so made for an excellent midnight(ish) snack! The place wasn't too busy when we were there, the bartender was also our waiter. He was polite and helpful. The table/chairs were clean and people looked like locals (which is always comforting when you randomly pick a spot). There's indoor and outdoor seating. I didn't see a lot of parking.
