This review is for the iconic Idaho Ice Cream Potato. When my best friend and I were in town, we knew we wanted to do something potato related. The moment we learned there was a special ice cream for this, we knew we had to try it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Westside Drive In has the best retro feeling to it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]As the name suggests, you can literally drive up and order to eat. Or you can park and eat at one of their tables outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It seems like Guy Fieri has been here and loves it. We just came to try the ice cream potato. The person at the front was quick and kind. She asked if I wanted it to go or dine-in. I asked to eat it there and was given the "potato" on a plate. This ice cream sundae is disguised to look like a potato, no actual potato is involved. It's vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate powder, topped with whipped cream and peanuts on a bed of chocolate sauce. It was so much fun and a great summer treat.

Date night with my honey bun just got very Idaho. We swung through the Westside Drive-In and ordered the famous Idaho Potato... but plot twist--it's dessert! "Potato" = vanilla ice cream "Skin" = powdered cocoa "Butter" = chocolate mousse "Pepper" = crushed Oreos If you didn't know better, you'd totally think it was a baked potato! 10/10 would order again.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This classic, retro spot delivers a highly unique novelty experience with a massive menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While the main food items are fairly standard, the incredibly creative dessert and the nostalgic drive-in atmosphere make it a fun, memorable stop. Finger Steak Basket (3/5): A very generous portion that comes packed with battered, deep-fried strips of steak, tater tots (gems), and a slice of garlic bread. The finger steaks are served with a traditional cocktail sauce, which is an interesting pairing for beef that didn't quite hit the mark for me personally. They tasted much better when dipped in fry sauce instead, which also pairs perfectly with the crispy gems. The garlic bread is a nice addition to round out the basket, though it lacks a strong buttery or garlicky flavor profile. The Idaho Ice Cream Potato (5/5): An incredibly creative dessert that's worth the $7 price tag for the fun novelty alone. It looks exactly like a real baked potato, but is actually a generous portion of vanilla ice cream coated in cocoa powder, and topped with chocolate syrup, peanuts, and crushed Oreo cookies, though you can ask to omit any toppings you don't want. Logistics Tip: The restaurant is highly flexible, offering two drive-through lanes for quick to-go orders alongside plenty of traditional parking spots if you want to dine on-site at their outdoor seating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restrooms are available and are located directly behind the main building.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This was a fun stop for an outer towner like me! We stopped for the famous ice cream "potato " but found ourselves trying finger steaks with fry sauce too. They both were very interesting. The finger steaks were tender pieces of beef dipped in tempura and fried. The "potato " was a fun scoop of vanilla ice cream covered in cinnamon. We enjoyed both. The ladies behind the counter were fast and courteous. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is either a drive thru or outdoor seating spot (dress appropriately).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I was out of town brewery hopping and got a little hungry. I was looking for a place that is unique to the Boise area and a young woman I was chatting at a brewery suggested this place. She mentioned this thing called finger steaks. I had never heard of it. I was curious enough to give it a try. It's kind of a drive-through diner sort of place with interesting things on the menu. Of course, I had to try the finger steaks, which actually were delicious. I had them with cocktail sauce, but there are other sauces available. I also had a bologna sandwich. Probably haven't had that in 50 years... and never in a restaurant... they were both really good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place has a really fun vibe to it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I definitely would come back if I'm in the area again.

Came as part of 11,500 mile road trip through Boise. Had to stop for the Idaho potato ice cream which is a fun way to highlight the city. Friendly staff. Ice cream was a bit basic but the toppings and shape made it fun. Also got the Monte cristo which leaned a bit too sweet for the concept but glad I tried it

"Bake Potato" ice cream is such a fun treat! I love their originality of this creation so much! I take out of towners here so they can see how darling these are, but my aunt CRAVES these so much! When I go, I get EXTRA for my aunt and she keeps them in her freezer for later! I love their burgers too and their fries! I crave them and sadly that's the only thing I ever get here cause I just love them so much! The staff is so nice and they work so hard! Please tip the staff because they hustle and have so much love for what they do. They also offer prime rib specials on weekends so give their more robust stuff a try and tell me all about it! :)

Everything was super tasty. Batter on the steak fingers was a little thick, not enough meat. The monte cristo was fried to perfection and the meatloaf with mashed potatoes was pretty flavorful too

Ok, my wife had it planned, and we dropped our bags in the hotel, and she said she knew exactly where we were going to get our first food. My wife is brilliant. I LOVED this place. You need to be in the mood for naughty eats and not classy tablecloth places when you go. If you do that, this place is gold. Apparently, we HAD to try the Finger Steaks, and the baked potato thing. The Finger Steaks were delicious, and probably not low fat. I loved them, and plenty of sauces around for the fries. Even that piece of bread in the picture was tasty. Now to the potato. To be honest, we weren't even sure before we went and when we ordered if the potato was an actual potato, a potato with ice cream on it, or other. It ended up being magical ice cream all around. It was one of those desserts where I ate smaller bites because I knew I would be sad when it was gone. I was right. I WAS sad when it was gone. We debated on making time in our short trip to go back for it, but she won that conversation unfortunately. Anyway, you NEED to stop by here at some point. I highly recommend, and see you there (the next time we are in Boise)...

In the five years that I have been eating at Westside drive-in, I have noticed recently that the quality is going downhill. Unfortunately yesterday was our last visit in the foreseeable future. My whole family loves Westside Drive in. We visit on average 15+ times a year. When we have out of town guests, we always make sure to bring them for a meal. We love both locations and have eaten at both many times. Within the last 3 to 4 visits, there have been little changes that have been annoying. I asked three different visits for my regular chicken Caesar salad with artichokes and they no longer offer artichokes. Forgivable though and I understand and made do . Yesterday though it was undeniable that the portion sizes are smaller and the prices remain the same. I understand shrinkflation is a real thing and the way some businesses stay afloat. Unfortunately, yesterday it was the bottom of the barrel when we ordered two different sandwiches - the French dip and the turkey and Swiss dip and felt like we ate a bread sandwich with very little meat. It was really gross. Please do not reduce the amount of meat you put in your sandwiches since the volume of meat has never been impressive . This time, though the volume of meat was so little that it tastes like it's 90% bread. I'd rather they charge a dollar or two more for a sandwich that's the same quality, than get a bread sandwich for $10. No, I didn't take any pictures of the food this time around. But looking at my previous pictures says a lot about quality from years ago anyways. The ice cream potato as always rocks and has never failed . Please keep that specialty. Please do what you can to stay open. We would forgive you and be back because we love you. You just need to know that you failed a regular local who loves you. We're taking a break for now, but will try again later. Edited to add that we were craving ice cream potatoes a few days later when we saw the Westside food truck at Kleiner Park during Potato Days. Knowing the cost for an ice cream potato is hovering right under six dollars at the restaurant, I didn't expect it to be much more at their food truck. Unfortunately disappointment abounded for the kiddos because I refuse to spend $11 for a regular size ice cream potato. So sad! Come on guys!

Not frozen! I was really not sure what to expect and faced my fears and ordered it. I can say it was some of the best fried fish I've had no lie. I was super pleased with it! Next time I'll try just the fish and chips in hopes that it comes with one more piece. The prawns were skinny ones and I wasn't too fond of them but the fish the main dish was perfect! By coincidence when walking around town I spotted it and had to go try. I'm a sucker for biscuits and gravy and these definitely beat what you would find in a Denny's or IHOP by a landslide on the taste and aesthetic scale! It's super filling since there's so many carbs, but the taters (more like small potato wedges) are actually a clever add-in. They add a slight bit of texture to the mushiness of the gravy-soaked biscuits, and potatoes and gravy are already best friends in terms of food pairings. There's also garnish on top (some sort of greens and cheese) that gives it a nice look and extra flavor. Delicious! I didn't think much of the customer service initially aside from thinking they were super friendly. However, I sat down at one of the tables and took my time eating and people watching. So many people came by the store to talk to the chefs with such familiarity that it felt like this popup was its own restaurant and community. It hasn't reached a point of popularity where it's flooded with people, but the more I look back on the experience, the nicer I feel about it. Even after a lot of time had passed and the staff had already helped out so many people, when I left, they called out my name and it made me wish I could go back again. This is one of the best experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Not because it's spectacular or mindblowing, but because it was great people watching. The bread consistency was great, not too soggy, and with a great crispy texture. I wish they had spread the tri-tip out more to make sure every bite was being celebrated. I also ordered the mac and cheese as the side per the instructions of the bartender, James. Let me say that was one of the best mac and cheeses that I have ever had. Truly amazing creamy texture and full of rich flavor. Everything melted in your mouth. Definitely worth it. I eventually ended up talking to a fellow bar sitter, and he ended up being the co-owner of the place, TJ. Today my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday here so of course I said yes! We decided to sit on the outdoor patio today. It wasn't the warmest day but it was beautiful out. The sun was peeking out once in a while. The table was nicely shaded by a huge umbrella. The sun was nice but to have it beating on you isn't the best so the umbrella was appreciated. It was the perfect table for our outing. Jerika (I hope I spelled her name right) greeted my friend and I with her beautiful smile. We got some drinks started so while they were being worked on, my friend and I breezed over the menu. I did somewhat enjoy my charboiled salmon at the Eagle Bardenay for my birthday a couple weeks ago. The chefs did undercook my first plate of salmon. The server was kind to take my plate back to have the chefs remake it. The second attempt was appreciated but it was unfortunately a fail. The salmon came out so dry. I get that I wanted it well done but not jerky. But, today's a new day and I was willing to give it another shot. So today, I ordered the salmon with veggies instead of the salad. My plate came out and it looked promising. I love beautiful char marks on my food. The char marks today were perfect. My veggies looked nicely cooked but I could tell that some of the squash was still undercooked by the color. I didn't mind, it's a sign of freshness. As much as I wanted to stare at the prettiness of my food, I was ready to dig in! My salmon was so good! It was perfectly cooked! No raw spots in the middle, it was flaky and moist. It was a fabulous piece of salmon. The sun dried tomato butter is a fantastic add on to the salmon. I honestly could have polished another piece of fish. The chef that cooked my salmon today needs a raise! My lunch was chef's kiss! My friend enjoyed her lunch and her birthday drink! The outdoor patio was so relaxing. My lunch was also enjoyed. Our server was kind and attentive. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday lunch for my deserving friend. I hope that it won't be another 5+ years till I come back. I will need another plate of salmon with that sun dried tomato butter soon.
