    Earl's breakfast
    Audrey L.

We came for brunch and had a good experience. We came on a Sunday morning and were able to get seated right away. I got the Earl's breakfast which came with 2 eggs, bacon, toast, crispy potatoes, and side salad. This was a nice variety of food for a breakfast plate, the only downside was that the potatoes were too salty. Everything else was great though! We also shared some truffle fries and sweet potato fries. I especially liked the sweet potato fries but both were tasty. I liked the aioli dipping sauce the fries came with!

It was my first time here. Ambiance was beautifu compared to the one in Guildford area unless it was updated recently. Servers and service was awesome. Food was delicious.

Came here for brunch. The parking is good cause they validate and it's free for 3 hours. No other reason why we would go to Brentwood if we have to pay for parking. The restaurant opens at 10 am on the weekend which is nice. There are barely any customers. Even at 12, the restaurant wasn't even 1/4 full. They have a happy hour brunch menu which is $2-4 cheaper than their regular menu. Not sure if the portions are the same or smaller but the price could be cheaper. The classic Benedict was pretty small and not very tasty. They use one piece of bread instead of English muffins. The ham is thin sliced deli ham which was disappointing. You get 6 pieces of potatoes which was chintzy. It was not very good. White spot does a much better Benedict. Def needs improvement. The deluxe burger was alright. For $27 I would expect it to be really good. Earls definitely isn't what it used to be. They took all the good items off the menu and the current items are average at best. Sad. We used to go to Earls every week in the 90s but lucky if we go once a year now.

Awesome late night happy hour. Tried their new happy hour menu and really enjoyed their new 1/2 price cocktails. The grape crush high ball was great. Loved their $5 mini cheekie shots - I got the cheeky green tea and it was so smooth. As for food, oysters on the half shell ($3.5) were great as well as the petite steak frites ($14). Shoutout to Adam - he was a great server tonight.

I ordered their pollo tacos. The taco itself was delicious! However, the tortilla chips on the side was waaaayyy too salty. Do make reservations! It gets crowded dinner time.

Yo, I been rollin' up to Earls since way back--one of my all-time faves, ya feel? Bruh, I even used to work at Earls! So in my mind, Earls will always be on check, straight up. But yo, this time? Man, I ain't vibin' with how it went down. Stepped in, and one of the hosts was lookin' at us like we was lost or somethin'. Ain't even hit us with that warm welcome--just straight-up icy. And check this--she passin' out free appetizers to folks comin' in after us, but we ain't get no love. Like, hold up, I used to be one of y'all! Guess I ain't look the part no more? Felt real boujee and high-key shady. And bruh, I really wanted to try them apps, but whatever, I ain't lettin' that mess up my night. They had this three-course meal deal poppin' off, and yeah, it was aight. But when they said "mini" dessert, they wasn't playin'--that joint was straight-up microscopic, like some kinda ant-sized snack. Service was mid, nothin' crazy. They did dial down the beats a bit from last time, but it's still mad loud--tryna have a convo in there be like yellin' across a club. And yo, what's up with the Cajun Blackened Chicken? That joint gettin' smaller and drier. Still hits, but it ain't bussin' like it used to. But yo, one thing that got me twisted--they rollin' with Maker's Mark bourbon? Man, this Canada! Where's the support for local? Other spots out here pushin' solid Canadian whisky, but Earls out here actin' like we in Kentucky. Ain't no shade to Maker's Mark, but c'mon, rep the home team! Big ups tho--they got that free parking check-in, and that's a real W. Ain't gotta stress 'bout pullin' up and droppin' a bag just to park. Earls still be solid, but bruh, it's gettin' real snooty and extra posh. Guess that's just how Vancouver/Burnaby roll these days. I guess you gotta dress and look different to be acceptable now at Earls. But I'm still hip, I'm down, I know what the 411 is, and I can still get jiggy with it!!! GOTTA WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?!? ELBOWS UP CANADA!

Came for Dineout and was able to try a variety of dishes! We ordered the spicy California roll, avuri salmon, Cajun chicken, chicken fettuccine, citrus noodle salad, prawn Benedict, cheesecake and toffee pudding! All our food came out super fresh and our server was amazing!

Cute location. They've really done it up well. I didn't realize how open, big and spacious it is looking at it from the outside. They get really busy so I would recommend a reservation if you can do that! It's very convenient too having it so close to the skytrain station so that's great. We went to this location for brunch and they have a pretty decent menu. Unfortunately for me, I'm dairy free and all their brunch menu items contain dairy so I ordered a vegan item from their regular menu. It was actually very delicious. I really like it! I didn't realize though that it was a cold dish when I ordered it (kinda like a salad) but can't complain coz it was good. Service was wonderful as well.

I got the tuna sesame noodles and it was really good. Maybe I was just hungry but it was surprisingly good and the lettuce on top just added the extra crunch that the dish needed. The tuna was also flavourful so all around 10s for this dish. My boyfriend loved the steak frites but I personally think I've had more tender cuts of steak before so I wasn't mind blown. I also wasn't a fan of how your choice of peppercorn sauce or truffle butter was an extra $4.00 on the receipt but it might have been part of the cost and just separated on the receipt (not too sure). I normal prefer thick cut fries too so overall the noodles were the clear winner for me. I paired my meal with the winter sangria and didn't find it too different from a regular sangria so just pick red of you like red and white if not.

I came in for a redemption experience and need to update my review to reflect the better service we received this time around. We were greeted by two very friendly hosts and were seated as per request at the bar. The bar itself was not busy but the restaurant was starting to get slowly full table wise. We ordered from the happy hour menu had spicy tuna sushi tacos(yum), prawn sushi taco(yum), yam fries (get extra aioli) , roast beef sliders(meh), Angry Lettuce Wrap Duo(yum) and the Wagyu Beef Oshi Press(the winner). Also had the sticky chocolate toffee pudding cake (could have been a tad warmer with more sauce in the center) and the pumpkin pie(delicious). The major hit was the Wagyu Beef Oshi Press! Absolutely delicious. I also had the Crystal Margarita which was refreshing. Service was attentive and professional. Food does take a little bit to get out to you.

Looks like Earls moved from their old Gilmore location (it's now called Birdies and is also owned by the same family apparently) and now has a nice new shiny location at the Amazing Brentwood. The location is next to the large exterior fountain. Parking is free on the N side of Brentwood (by London Drugs). The lot on the S side where the restaurant is isn't free, but I think there may be some reimbursement scheme. The place is large and modern and trendy, as expected from this chain. Staff are friendly and professional. Jumbo lump crab cake - single thing that's not too big. To be honest it's not the best for sharing. Comes with some fennel on top, and served in some sauce with a wedge of lemon. Squishy but tasty. Earls wings - Some 8 medium sized wings and drumsticks. Served with ranch and hot sauce, and a few celery sticks. Tuna ahi poke bowl - nice and fresh. Served with chunks of avocado, shredded carrots, and chunks of pineapple, radish, and cucumber. Everything goes together quite nicely. Portion size is a bit small though. Rice underneath the whole pile of stuff. Definitely a nice place to socialize while eating. I'd come back.

Earls Kitchen + Bar at The Amazing Brentwood opened last week. It is large, spacious & grand. The vibe is alluring - come with friends & family - you'll have a great time. Earls is an excellent addition to the bustling Amazing Brentwood Mall that continues to expand. See my pix! The decor is lush, upscale & decorated with unique art pieces. My favourite Earls location in the summer is in West Vancouver - see that review for pix. This new location here in Burnaby, will be my favourite all winter long. I was keen to try a new menu item so I had the Truffle & Steak Tortellini (Truffle cream, ricotta, spinach, seasonal vegetables, Grana Padano) & it was as they say in Italy - magnifico! The Sirloin comes in 3oz, 6oz or 9oz offering. My 3oz was just perfectly filling. A 6oz Filet cut is available as well. The Biryani Chicken was also pleasantly surprisingly very good. Was hesitant to try it as there's a couple of really good Indian restaurants I've been to that are simply masters at making it. I would definitely get it again. Please note - pay parking is in effect here. For 2 hours free parking, make sure you scan the QR code by the main entrance of Earls & follow the prompts. Yelpies Earls was super busy so do make a reservation. Happy eating.

Surrounded by warehouses, did the driver want us to experience a "call of the wild?" However, Odd Society beckoned one block from the corner, and two seats were available at the strange bar. Strange because our view was blocked by a kind of ersatz plastic and wood wagon wheel blocking our view of the servers and bar. It was reminiscent of Utah's Zion Curtain. Later, I was told it was part of Odd Society's Covid protection and helped the bartenders stack things up. Okay, fine, but tear the damn things down. They're obnoxious. Odd Society creates an array of liquors made from ingredients sourced locally by law. It's required by their license. I tried almost all of them, and most were fantastic. Abby and Colin, our servers, were charming, fun, and educational, answering my questions, which became increasingly inane as the alcohol took effect. The distillery also mixes fantastic cocktails, and mine, named Midori, was friggen unbelievable. I had two of them along with my liquor tasting. My Midori was made with a special concoction called Portuguese Sweet Milk, or something like that. It was amazing. I want one for breakfast. The fun kept coming, and I didn't want to leave. In summary, the place was ok, but noticed after the fact that we were overcharged for the drinks. It's a small space - about 3 high tables, one lower one, each seating 4 to maybe at most 5 people, plus a bar. I reserved a table for the 2 of us at 3:30 pm on a Sunday (earliest reservation they had as they open at 3 pm) and we were seated at 3 pm. They checked our vaccine passports and then seated us. Not long after we were seated, the remaining tables were all taken just after opening for 30 minutes so I would recommend reserving if you prefer tables over bar seating. The waitress brought over a drinks menu and food menu. The menu showed cocktails at $13. We chose our drinks and ordered, then the waitress came by with a second menu that she said was for Sunday only. She apologized and said she normally doesn't work Sunday's so she didn't know this promotional menu was available. This menu had some cocktails on promotion that I would have not minded to try, but I had already received my cocktail. Oh well. I had the Violet and Claire, which looked great and tasted pretty good for the first half. However by the second half of the drink, it started to taste too sweet. It was not bad for a cocktail, overall. My friend said the Smoke Between the Sheets cocktail was alright as well. We got our bills quickly as we had a second place to visit afterwards. After paying, I snapped a picture of the bill at the time but did not notice until I got home that to my surprise, each cocktail was listed on the bill at $14.95. I recalled their physical menu saying $13, and verified this with their menu online. Unfortunately, I did not notice the discrepancy until I was home, otherwise I would have mentioned something. Note that our visit was at the end of November 2021, and at the time I'm writing this review (December 26, 2021), their online menu still has cocktail prices at $13. So, I am not sure if this was a one time mistake when we paid, or if they have just forgotten to update their menu? Either way, this was disappointing. Because of the entire experience I probably won't visit again, especially with all the other options Vancouver has for cocktails.

Inside, the space leans into a **chic** speakeasy ambience, only slightly undercut by 90s chillout tunes that are a touch loud but still on-brand for a laid-back late-night hideout. The food is where things really land. Frog legs arrive as the star curiosity and end up tasting strikingly familiar--so much so they echo the famed chicken wings from Anh and Chi in both comfort and flavour. The beef tartare is properly seasoned and genuinely delicious, rich but balanced enough that it never feels heavy. Ox tail is a unique inclusion on the menu and it follows through, offering deep, slow-cooked flavour that stands out even among the stronger dishes. Duck breast is cooked to a textbook pink, tender and juicy, an easy "order again" plate. Dessert keeps the momentum going. An oolong peach creation acts as the perfect finishing touch: fragrant, slightly floral, and just sweet enough to close the meal without tipping into cloying territory. Service and atmosphere reinforce the sense of a discreet drinking den--this is the place you duck into for a properly made drink and a series of small plates, not a high-traffic scene bar. With nothing to complain about--from food to vibe--The Good Thief feels like a well-executed concept: a hidden, unmarked bolthole where you slip in from the dark, linger over excellent plates, and slip back out just as quietly.

I tried both the Kyoto and Wet Work, enjoying them both. They would even work as a blend of one another. My dad accidentally ordered a chocolate martini instead of an espresso martini, and Aaron made it happen. (The entire table loved it! Take that poured over some ice cream and I'd be far too content!) My brother had the gin martini, and while not a fan of gin straight up, it had a nice smooth finish that I could appreciate.
