In all honesty, I only frequented this place for a first date- which did not go well at all! The staff here were professional and caring both before and after the issues I ended with. I only had a cocktail and a glass of wine: the cocktail was made perfectly and arrived quickly, and the recommended wine was delicious! I'm bad at names, but I believe the gorgeous server who (if memory serves me) was called Diwa, was beyond exceptional in ensuring my comfort and safety. She did this whilst still continuing to tend to other guests seamlessly. She was fantastic, but honestly all the servers here are exceptional! I recently had lunch at Cactus Club Cafe on March 8 and again on March 11 because I was craving their Szechuan Chicken Lettuce Wraps -- yes, I went back twice! These wraps are absolutely delicious. The sweet and spicy Szechuan glaze combined with peanuts, crunchy wontons, Korean chili sauce, and spicy yogurt with chicken creates such a bold and satisfying flavour. The balance of sweet and heat is incredible -- every bite is packed with flavour. My son ordered the Steak Frites (8oz CAB® sirloin with kale salad, horseradish cream, and sea-salted fries), and he loved every well-seasoned bite. I also tried the Frozen Sangria Wine for the first time and it was refreshing and very tasty. For dessert, my son had his favourite -- the Chocolate Lava Cake with Tahitian vanilla ice cream. I had a few bites of the warm molten chocolate and wow... pure chocolate heaven! I ordered the Key Lime Pie, which was perfectly balanced -- light, refreshing, and not overly sweet, with a nice lime flavour and graham cracker crust. The service on both visits was excellent. I love Cactus Club. I said it. Had lunch with a friend recently, Med bowl is the perfect bowl for a midday work week lunch. It has everything, the chicken was moist, the dressing was rich, the cabbage slaw as easy as it is to make at home, it's just hits different when it's all assembled to perfection. On a warm-sunny Monday noon for lunch....ok....here it goes.... The patio was strangely enough charming considering it was right by the highway. You'd think....the noise, the smell and perhaps the construction would get on your first nerve very quickly.....it actually didn't. The warmth of the shady sun along with the colourful umbrellas shining their light onto your table with a timid breeze visiting once in a while made me feel like ordering a margarita. The Chicken Tenders were decent, but not sure I'd order them again at $19....I think next time I'll try a different item. The Bacon Burger was great.....I'd get that again. Wife and I went to Cactus on Lougheed in Burnaby yesterday with another couple. I had the fish tacos (used to be my favourite) but the fish felt rubbery and there was hardly any garnish to enhance the flavour. I ate it because I did not want to make a scene. However, when it was time to pay the bill, the restaurant did not want to accept any of my three gift cards. They said the cards were missing a PIN and they had no idea how to deal with it. It is their issue, not mine. There was no recourse but to pay cash. They said I need to call head office and find out how to proceed. Why could they not do that. Ridiculous!! read more

The service was good the food was tasty the drinks were good . My only criticism would be of the hostess , when we arrived at 7:30pm with no reservations wearing t shirt and shorts after enjoying a sunny Vancouver day lets just say our greeting from the hostess was less than upbeat or pleasant . Ordered a salad which was drenched in oil, as in swimming in it, and the cucumbers were pretty much salt and pepper served with a side of the cucumber. Went there last night as I didn't feel like cooking, we had to wait for about 5 minutes before they had a table. We sat down, waited and waited and waited for 10 minutes, no server and no water. My husband had to ask for the manager and told him about what happened. He apologized profusely, offered us a free appetizer, and got our server to come over. The server apologized as well, then took our order. We ordered the tuna stack as the free appetizer. It's diced tuna sashimi with avocado, topped with some crunchy tempura bits. It was seasoned well with a light soya sauce and probably some chilli garlic. I like the fact the proportion with the tuna and crisps are just right. I ordered a steak frites. It was well seasoned, juicy and cooked to medium rare, which is how I liked it. Fries were hot and crunchy, however, the kale salad was overly dressed and way too acidic. Food is fine, I mean, chain like Cactus usually is very consistent. Just too bad the service was below average this time. read more

I visited Cactus Club about a week ago for a casual lunch with my parents. Everything was going great until I went to order. I wanted a pesto chicken quesadilla, but without the cranberries. The server then apologetically informed me that if I wanted to remove the cranberries, the quesadilla would not have any pesto in it. When asked why, the answer was simply "it's a new rule." Here's why I take issue with the new rule: 1) Nowhere on the menu does it say that customizations or substitutions are not allowed; if you're going to instate such a rule, it should really be advertised 2) Pesto is one of the main ingredients of the dish! It's the defining flavour! 3) Is this rule set in stone? What if someone has an allergy to cranberries? I ended up ordering the tuna stack instead. Lately, I haven't been impressed with the Cactus Club franchise. I hope things will change soon. One thing's for sure, I won't be going back for a while. read more

Pretty solid and dependable food. Parking lot is a bit small as a big chunk is reserved for sleep country. Be prepared to wait for a spot at peak times. They used to have a valet service, but that no longer exists. The waiting area is super large, with lots of seating. Service is hit or miss. Sometimes it's super efficient, friendly and great and other times your server is no where to be seen. The food though is always dependable and good quality. My kids took me here last night for Mother's Day. The food was delicious! Well prepared and beautifully plated. However, one thing that concerned me A LOT was the water. When we are seated, we always asked for ice water. ALL four glasses had "floaties" so we asked for four new glasses of water only to be served with four more glasses of floatie infested water. Needless to say my kids were thoroughly grossed out. These were not just tiny air bubbles rising up ... there were small white chunks of food? looked like cracker crumbs? The second time around ... one of the glasses had red coloured crumb particles. My kids gave up on the water, but I went for one last try ... again ... I got floaties in my water. Nix the water! The service was ok ... we were tended to immediately. This review is based on their happy hour menu. We ordered 2 drinks, truffle fries, flatbread, chicken sandwich duo, and quesadillas. The total was around $40. Everything tasted fine but presentation lacked, especially the quesadillas. If you ever order their happy hour ravioli ($8), know that it is actually only 2 pieces of ravioli. The frose was quite nice but the sunset frose was kind of strange with basically a few drops of the frose slush added to your soda. Just compared to similar restaurants (Joey, Milestones, Earls, etc.), it wasn't the most impressive happy hour. Came here for some lunch. The trick is to pop by before around 1145, after which the place gets pretty full. Parking is available in the nice large parking lot up the hill from the building. Be sure to park in the correct zone. The restaurant is divided into 2 main areas - a dining area with booths, and a bar area with raised booths as well as bar-style tables. There's also a large S facing patio which is great for baking during the summer months. Staff were friendly and professional. Gotta give it to them. This is very consistent across the different locations. They came by frequently enough to ensure my buddy and I weren't thirsty. The short rib sandwich is quite tasty. Bread is nice and crunchy, and it's all about the caramelized onions. The beef jus was a bit too salty for my liking though. Fries are crispy but nothing special (they taste like the McCain variety). I have not been to this location in probably over 8 years, and it was nice to just come back to this old place that I used to hang around for a light snack. This is one of the locations which still, by what I saw at the doorway, not changed to the new "Cactus Club" logo sign. Located on Lougheed Highway, right next to Boston Pizza, there's parking, unlike some other locations. The food for all these chain restaurants is practically the same. In all, the same you would expect from any Cactus Club menu, nothing special, but when you need the higher tier chain restaurant in this area, I guess it is either this place, or the Earl's across the street. They do have a nice bar/lounge area, with good views of the tv's for your viewing pleasure if there is a sports game on though! read more

This ravioli was excellent and we were all surprised at how perfect each one was crafted! We usually go to the one at Waterfront near the Vancouver Convention Centre but this one was closer to home so we gave it a try. Overall the food was really good but the service was not at all. Our server was not friendly and we felt very rushed (we were in and out in less than 45 minutes) despite it not being busy. It left such a bad impression on us and we decided to contact the general manager to let her know of our experience. She was very kind and understanding, even sending us a gift card and inviting us back. So, we went back 3 weeks later, booking a reservation directly through her as she suggested. On our second visit we sat on the patio. It wasn't busy this time either and we assumed we would get a better server and have an overall better experience. It took at least 20 minutes before we were even able to order a drink. Once we got them we mentioned we would wait a bit for food. 40 minutes later we ordered a starter and mains after. All in all the food was good again. I really enjoyed mine (Chicken Teriyaki Bowl) but my boyfriend didn't and he ordered their signature Butternut Squash Ravioli with Prawns. They didn't even ask us if we enjoyed it and the best part about this was that it was the manager (who we coordinated this entire experience with) that took our plates. She didn't even acknowledge us or ask if we were having a good experience. It took about 20 minutes to get the bill after. Overall service was very very slow and it wasn't even busy at all. We both decided that their service needs work and based on the number of reviews suggesting this, it seems like it's been a problem for some time and they don't seem to have any interest in improving. If you're looking for the same food quality and better service, I'd suggest going to another location.
