This is one of the nicest Tiki-style bars I have ever gone too. It's a real shame they're about to tear it down. Parking is available in the back, but watch out if you have a low car as most of the ways in and out of this lot are raised. The bar itself is a semi-circle, but mirrors make the place look like a large round room. There are fake palm trees, a dark blue sky, and even the stars in the ceiling flicker. Photos don't do this place justice at all. The only thing is that this place closes early. The day I went (Sunday), it closed 2000. I really wish I had known about this place earlier. It will be missed.

I love the Tiki Bar. It's a fun hideaway with good drinks and atmosphere. A bunch of us gathered on a random Tuesday night for kitschy drinks by resident bartender specialist Steve da Cruz formerly of The Corner Suite Bistro. He brought with him his big black book of signature cocktails which is a little daunting and overwhelming upon first glance. It's fun coming to the Waldorf with its unique decor and ambience. The Tiki Bar is a great place to chill out, relax, and drink with friends. Everything about it screams character. Sufficed to say, it was a little sparse when we arrived fairly early on this weekday, but the good drinks and friendly company made the night a charming one. The drinks are good, specifically the young coconut with rum. It goes down well. I had a mai tai and a ramos gin fizz. I like the fizz's milky egg texture and taste. Everything combined, the Tiki Bar makes for a great go to spot despite its out of the way location, but that sort of adds to its charm.

Low lighting, a hum of conversation, and a crowd that clearly shows off the bars popularity. We ordered a few of their cocktails including the Night of a Thousand Eyes, their take on an espresso martini, which had a rich coffee and caramel kick without going overly sweet. We also tried some dim sum, which honestly could've been an afterthought but wasn't. The shrimp spring rolls stood out the most. Crisp on the outside, juicy and flavorful inside, and not greasy. Two stars ( instead of one ) for the bartender trying to make it right by offering me a free shot with my happy hour beverage but honestly I would have rather just been treated better (with a little more consideration) . In the states at "fancy" restaurants and or really popular places ( in general places that take reservations) , a single person would never really be allowed to sit at a larger table or booth, unless extreme circumstances warranted it like they were disabled / had a wheelchair ( which I am ) due to the fact that most likely a larger party who would obviously want to sit together, would need that limited space and it would be awkward to have someone move tables when they were already enjoying their drink or meal to accommodate a larger party. This rule, however doesn't really exist at places like dive bars . In general as most dive bars tended to be sparsely populated ...sitting wherever is not really an issues . In general first come first serve and every man for himself ...is usually the vibe . I arrived here, basically at opening and was there for about 40 minutes when a party of four arrived . All four of them kept looking at my table where I was sitting (the only booth in the small bar) as they were initially forced to sit together at one of the single tables with four chairs . Next thing, I know the bartender comes over to me and apologizes, saying he has to bug me and request that I move to a smaller table because they need the one booth . As I gathered my belongings to move, members of the larger party avoided making eye contact as they some thanked me for moving . Obvious that they were feeling guilt and yet it didn't stop them from claiming the booth I was using as a disabled person . Quite an unpleasant experience . To be fair I get the need to accommodate a larger party but honestly they could've literally just pushed three tables together and arranged the chairs to be three on each side. It would've been a little bit more work, but I think it would have been the fairest solution ..and would have been my solution as the employee working there or if I was a member of the party . It's the entitlement that really bothered me . I think I just come from a place where in certain instances people wouldn't even dare ask .

We ordered earlier in the day, and the shucker was clearly alert, taking the extra steps to ensure a clean finish. Truffle fries were indulgent and perfectly crisp, though the garlic aioli was milder than I prefer -- almost like straight mayo without a punch. I skipped the sushi wrap, sticking to my traditionalist ways, but my friend enjoyed it. Brownie bites, complimentary as they were, were a disappointment. Lacking enough fat and possibly stored improperly, they tasted a bit stale -- a shame, because how does a brownie not taste good? Sadly after visiting the rooftop twice for happy hour and once for dinner with an announced significant birthday number shared, and two breakfast's a three is all we can muster. It should be so much more, but the food lets down the entire experience. Our service was good, with delightful people helping our experience. That said service is slow, with details that should be spot on, not even evident. Water glasses left empty forever, promises made, not even brought up again. When the reservation was made a question was asked of an event for the dinner out. A 60th birthday was mentioned, acknowledged, and when sat by our server and nothing further. To be fair K would rather it all go by unannounced, but when it's all over the paperwork a small recognition should be there. The space itself, is not on a rooftop at all, but it's a beautiful high ceilings restaurant that deserves a far better kitchen. Our price fixe menu for two at $155 or so was definitely not worth the price at all. The steak was uniformly medium when med rare was the ask. There was a tiny bit of medium rare at one end, but the vast majority was medium or more. The torch of the butter on the steak, looked good from afar prior to our serving, but right in front of you looks almost comical. Our breakfasts were average at best, again service was ok, but the food was not where it should be, in fact not even close. We'd ponder staying at the hotel again due to location, but we'd not eat here.

It was a Friday and they still offered happy hour, which is awesome -- most places don't have happy hour on Fridays or weekends. But at the Granville Room, you can enjoy happy hour every day! (4-9pm on from Sun-Thurs and 4-7pm on Fri/Sat). They serve a small selection of $7 cocktails during this time as well as beer and wine on special. I had $4 draught beers (16oz) which were a steal. The food options for happy hour are mostly limited to ($10) pizza and ($5) fries, but there were different flavours of pizza to choose from which is great. We tried the Fried Chicken pizza as well as the Spicy Pork pizza. Both were tasty and freshly made. Although not on the happy hour menu, we also ordered Chicken Karaage to share, which was surprisingly good! The batter wasn't too heavy and the chicken was definitely crispy. I was also impressed with the selection of whiskey they have from different parts of the world, although I'm not a whiskey drinker. I tried a French 75 cocktail on special and it was perfect -- just the right amount of sweetness. I can see myself coming back again for casual drinks with friends. I would probably only come back again during happy hour though as the prices aren't that great otherwise. For dessert the Plum with Fig Leaf, Miso Honeycomb and Thai Basil Sourdough was good. No arguments there. The shiitake was fine, palatable. The cabbage and potato were very bland and made me question why the Acorn is so hyped. It was so bland i didn't finish it. Keep in mind SERVING SIZES ARE TINY. The ravioli were practically inedible the chicken of the woods was beyond overly salted and the pasta wasn't cooked. We joked that al dente was at least touching water. This pasta has never heard of water. Easily one of if not THE WORST PASTA I've ever had at a restaurant in the past few years. Thank goodness the plum dessert was yummy. Very good. But truly I don't understand why people rave about The Acorn. I love food. Im a vegetarian but it's hard to comprehend why it's so hyped. Maybe there was a new cook? Maybe it was an off night? Crossed off my Vancouver bucket list. It took me a while to write this review because I frankly was in shock the contrast between the actual food vs the lore it has around town. The highlights were a basic sourdough and a well balanced dessert. That just feels so wrong.
