My carpaccio was a downer for me. Drenched in gooey something.
Anton H.

Against my habit not to dine in a restaurant with mediocre results by Fraser Health my Missis and I went there out of an habit of celebrating occasions. My opinion, besides the food that I didn't appreciate the way it was arranged on the plate (wagyo beef carpaccio with aioli sauce) is that the place has seen better days. A visit to the men's room was the reason (pictured) My wife's pasta dish was actually okay. My comment to our very attentive server, that the beef taste of my dish was ruined because it was drowned in aioli. She reported that to the kitchen and offered us a complementary dessert. As we were sitting with view of the water we noticed some rats rushing by coming and going from the kitchen waste bin i assumed. They have to do a lot of work before we can return. I'm impressed with your response to my review. I think this is the only way to responsibly give a feedback to the customer. Thank you Cactus Club.

Man I remember everybody was telling me cactus club was mid af.. Sorry I beg to differ, the food here is amazing compared to the sh*t we have in California.. I'm talking about you cheese cake factory. For those of you who don't know, JOEY DTLA in California is a branch off cactus club cafe. Now don't get me wrong Joey Dtla had some hit or miss but their food variety was always their biggest selling point. I remember eating fried cauliflower coated in gochujang like wtf is that?? am I right? It tasted pretty dam good though I ain't gonna lie. Cactus club cafe is one of those restaurants where there's always a dish for everyone. Whether it's sushi, pad thai, Mediterranean, salads, steaks, creole chicken etc. It's what we think cheese cake factory should be but unfortunately it's trash in California. I had the steak frites medium rare with creole butter sauce(it's the same creole butter on the blackened chicken). I normally don't mess with kale salad but the chickpea croutons were so dam good.. For the happy hour price it was such a steal.. the service was good, food was good, music was good and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant felt mid-classy.

One of the smaller Cactus Club locations in the Lower Mainland. This one is inside Market Crossing. The place gets pretty packed during peak meal hours. Something to keep in mind. Parking is plentiful in the the strip mall lot. As with the other locations, the venue has a bar/lounge and a restaurant area. Both sections are kid friendly though. Staff are friendly and professional. The chicken sandwich I had was pretty good. Decent amount of meat. Chicken patties were nice and crisp. Not a bad place at all, though I would recommend a backup plan in case the place is full.

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this Cactus Club location before; I've always had a good time here. I prefer this place to a lot of other locations, as it has a lot of parking and is pretty big. For my latest visit, I came for drinks + snacks Sunday night. My friend and I came around 8:30 and there was a short 10 minute wait for a table. The bar was wide open, so we could've gotten seated there immediately, but I'm glad we waited as we got a whole booth all to ourselves. We already had dinner earlier, so we started off easy with just some drinks. I had the El Camino Margarita ($13), which was pretty good, though I was a bit surprised it was on the sour side. Once 9:30 hit and happy hour started, we ordered a second round of drinks, another beer for him and a bellini for me, as well as the crispy chicken sandwich duo ($10). Everything was good and we left happy with our wallet $60 lighter.

Really hip place with great food and good looking people. Stopped by for lunch on a Thursday and surprised at how full the restaurant was, which is a great sign. I thoroughly enjoyed the Med Bowl with falafel. Very tasty and nutritious with lots a variety in color, texture, and flavor. There is a Mickie-D's next door so if great food isn't your thing, you do have options.

New Cactus location that I wanted to try out on a Friday night. This place got super busy and thank goodness my friend made reservations. The menu was tweaked a bit, but still very consistent in taste. I decided to try the chicken tenders with shoe string fries and a glass of white wine. Cannot complain, especially as we were seated at the outdoor heated patio. There is lots of free spaces at the parking lot (bonus) and service was fast, courteous, and friendly even though it was busy.

Delicious Rigatoni Bolognese, Spicy Caesar's. Love coming here for happy hour. Sports on the TV and nice looking talent with good food. Can't be beat.

Mini crispy chicken burgers

Cactus is hands down my favourite restaurant ever. I went during happy hour the last time I went and all of my favourites were discounted!! Each mini crispy burger was $5 instead of 3 for $18. This was such a good deal for me since I only ever eat 2 of them. My server was so so sweet and she did a really good job. I believe her name was Kismit. Dessert was also on happy hour so we got a cheesecake for only $8!

Avocado kale salad with chicken

I don't know how it got past the kitchen staff and then the server, but this over-ripened avocado was served to me last night on their Avocado Kale salad. I sent it back. No one would say that the Cactus Club is a cheap meal, so they really shouldn't be serving stuff like this. And how this got past so many layers and onto our table is a little mind boggling. There were also a tonne of small flies buzzing over our table all night long. One of the guys kept trying to kill them, but it was a never-ending pursuit. We had a bit of a laugh because he was constantly clapping, but on the other hand, it was pretty damned annoying all night long.

My recent dinner experience last night was near perfect except for one thing ... I'm Chinese and my dining partner is Chinese ... we both ordered chicken steaks. Why would the waitress give us chopsticks to use??? I've been to this and other Cactus Clubs many times and this is the first time this has ever happened.

Half hot and half salt and pepper - so happy they can accommodate this!

The ambiance is always great, and the service is excellent. The food could be slightly better, but that depends on personal taste.

Tables were moving in and out pretty quickly. I was really happy to see a $10 appetizer section. Tried the mushroom caps and risotto balls and loved them both! They also have a great cocktail list. Was definitely not expecting for a live magician to be there! He walked around and performed tricks for each individual table, how fun!! The daily events they have and the speakeasy ambiance make this bar truly stand out as a gem. Prices are quite reasonable as well.

The place is quirky and on theme. The servers were all dressed up according to the theme as well. They were courteous and offered us free Prosecco since the bartender was delayed to arrive due to traffic. The cocktails were really good - I had an old fashioned and a negroni. I would've liked more fancier cocktails for the price though. One thing about the place is that the tables are quite close to each other so it can get a bit louder as the night progresses. Maybe fewer tables with shorter time slots might be a good idea. We only tried the stuffed mushroom caps and it was delicious. The program of the night was a magic show. The magician was witty and had quite a few tricks up his sleeve. I would like to check out the psychic reading in future too!

Where do I start?…read more WOW! I think that's a good place to start. My mother came to visit me from the states, and my husband and I wanted to take her to dinner. We decided on Cactus Club Cafe because of the menu. We walked in -- no reservations -- and were sat down almost immediately. Our waiter was super attentive. My mom ordered the salmon, I ordered the baja fish tacos and my husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger. The food was amazing. He asked if we were celebrating anything, and we kinda were, but that was not the reason for eating out. My mother was seeing me after a year. My PR had gone through this past December. My husband and I celebrated our first year of marriage on the eighth! We told him those were not the reasons for eating there though, but he gave us free desserts all the same, and while the dessert was too rich for me, my husband and mother devoured them, it was still so good!

I ordered Steak Frites, i swapped out regular fries for Truffle fries, i requested medium rare closer to rare and they did not disappoint. Easy to get seats, make resos online or walk in. Free parking available .. restaurant is always super clean and ambiance has just the right amount of light and decor in my opinion. I often solo dine here when i finish errands or the gym. Super introvert friendly. Think this place suits any occasion really

Food: 1/3 Service: 1/1…read moreAmbience: 1/1 For me, Time & Place is 3/5 - the waitress was attentive and the ambience was deifnitely what you would expect from a hotel restaurant - kinda quiet and cozy, with tv showing sports if you're dining alone and need entertainment - however let's talk about the food and drinks. For drinks we ordered Sangria, and it had the saddest amount of fruit in it I've ever seen. Other restaurants I've ordered Sangria in have a pitcher or container with lots of fruit to give it flavour. At Time & Place there were 3 super small pieces of strawberry floating around in the drink, and it didn't even taste like Sangria, just wine. For a place that is more upscale (read: more expensive) that is extremely shameful that they are skimping on fruit for their Sangrias like this. As for food - personally I found it to be super bland. Good thing the table came with salt and pepper so I could season my own food, which I will say that after seasoning it myself (a lot) it was actually quite delicious. I had the Miso & Spiced Honey Glazed Black Cod and the fish and vegetables were cooked well. Overall I enjoyed my dish BUT only after seasining it a ton myself, which in a relatively upscale restaursnt such as this I really shouldn't have to. So overall, 3/5. It wasn't terrible, but to be honest I think there are better options in the area for food that I don't need to season myself to enjoy.

My fellow yelper Steph accompanied me to the Bite of Burnaby festival to check out Time and Place,…read morewhich we had both been curious to try for a while. Its tucked away on the 2nd floor and has a nice quiet ambience, not too loud that you can't hear your partner talking so its a great spot for date night. Our server was very friendly and efficient with the food service and she came by a few times to top up waters. Since it was happy hour, we also decided to try their truffle fries and let me tell you..... I don't even like fries, and I LOVED these fries! I don't know if its the batter or how they did it, but they were super crispy, not soggy, flavourful, and the truffle dip was delicious as well. 12/10 for the fries alone! For my 3 course menu, I chose the mussels (excellent, 5/5) beef short rib (tender, 5/5) and key lime pie (crust was a bit soggy, 4/5). Overall the portion sizes were very generous and the food was served at a reasonable pace. I would return for the fries alone! Presentation was beautiful. Happy to have found a new spot for happy hour or a date night :)
