it took a few attempts to finally nail down a lunch date with the ladies, but with a lot of persistence and determination, we made it happen: a party of four with a 1:00 pm reso on a tuesday. claudio's came recommended by a friend, run by the sons of the family behind la roca on commercial drive, many moons ago, and also the team behind pasta amore. the restaurant is named after their dad, claudio, which automatically sets expectations a notch higher. finding the place itself was easy enough on google maps. the parkade, however, was another story. finding my car after lunch turned into a misadventure that no one asked for. inside, claudio's is bright, open, and airy, with soaring ceilings and generous natural light. warm wood tables, a cozy booth with deep leather seats invite lingering, and vintage style photos line dark walls, adding nostalgia. greenery spills down from a ledge near the ceiling, softening the exposed pipes and ductwork above, like a leafy curtain politely disguising the ventilation system. the open kitchen, anchored by a wood fired pizza oven, is a strong visual cue that pizza is serious business here. our arrival, unfortunately, was...odd. one friend became convinced the front door was locked. diners were clearly inside, but she swore a staff member made eye contact and didn't move to help. we circled the building like confused cats looking for a secret entrance before returning to the front door. still nothing. i finally called the restaurant and was told, cheerfully, that the door was open. eventually, another customer attempted entry, gave the door a heroic yank, and voila, it opened. shoutout to that stranger. less so to the brunette staff member whose vibe leaned towards standoffish. once seated, spirits lifted quickly. we were celebrating a birthday and decided to share, which felt right given the generous portions. the table filled up nicely: calamari fritti, a verde salad, and a capricciosa pizza topped with tomato, fior di latte, prosciutto cotto, mushrooms, olives, and artichokes. the spread looked inviting, exactly the kind of lunch you want to linger over. the calamari arrived first and was a highlight, absolutely stole the show. lightly breaded, crisp without being greasy, with a mix of rings and jalapenos and a side of pale, creamy aioli, it was the dish everyone kept reaching back for. if there's one must order at the table, this is it. the verde salad, dressed in a pinkish vinaigrette and sprinkled with toasted hazelnuts and shaved cheese, leaned a bit heavy handed on the dressing and felt slightly wilted, though the flavours were there. the pizza arrived last, rustic, with a blistered, wood fired crust and toppings scattered generously. the crust was thin and pleasantly chewy, not oily, though a touch soggy in the centre. still, it held its own and disappeared quickly. we shared an affogato with gelato, espresso, with crumble and a generous portion of tiramisu with a dusting of cocoa powder spelling out happy birthday was a thoughtful finishing touch. both hit the sweet spot without tipping into overly rich territory. all in all, it was a lovely afternoon, good food, plenty of laughter, and the easy comfort of catching up with old friends. claudio's has a lot going for it: a beautiful space, standout calamari, and solid pizza. the parking maze and the great door mystery were 'character building', to say the least. i'd definitely come back, though next time, i might bring a crowbar. read more

I came to Claudio's for a get together. First off, I recommend a reservation as they can get busy. Inside is beautiful and there's also outdoor seating for those nice days. The ambiance overall was good. Staff was also pretty friendly. I got the bolognese and it was delicious. The pasta which was made in house was al dente and the sauce it came with was meaty and delicious. My partner got the halibut and said it was one of the best thing they had eaten - it was buttery and delicious. I also tried a slice of their pizza and that was also really good. This place is always quite crowded but it's for good reason. The ambience and vibes are perfect -- they use good music, mood lighting, and beautiful decor for that. Arancini 4/5 These risotto balls change depending on what day you come but when we came it was pesto with pancetta which was delicious. The risotto balls are decently large and very dense. Carbonara 5/5 The noodles are perfectly al dente and probably had one of the best textures I've had in a while. The sauce is also very creamy and thick. They have a pretty generous portion size so it can easily be two meals. Tagliatelle 3.5/5 For some reason, each time I come here the texture of the tagliatelle just isn't as al dente as the other noodles. I like the tomato based sauce but the noodles feel a bit soggy. read more

This is the spot to visit if you are looking for great pasta and pizzas in Brentwood. If you get there early, you can also enjoy their happy hour menu until 5pm. When I walked into the restaurant, I noticed their decor is clean, bright and modern. They have plenty of tables in and outside, as well as seating at bar. We ordered the Linguine al Fruitti di Mare which was a rich garlic tomato based sauce with mussels and prawns. It went perfectly with a glass of red wine. read more

People coming for lunch on a weekday might need to get back to work soon, so I would have thought they'd be more prompt with taking orders, getting food to and from tables, and handing people their bills. My Gnocchi wasn't bad but not mind blowing either. I don't order Gnocchi very often but out of the few times I have ordered it, can't say I've ever had one that blew me away. Might not order it again after this. Thinking I'm just not a Gnocchi person. There was a Caesar salad on the table that we all shared. I think that was probably my favourite part of the meal. We added prawns and it elevated the meal. The arugula salad was on the lighter side and needed a bit more flavor. We added the burrata just because I love burrata. The Pepperoni Piccante was a bit too much on the sweeter side with the honey. I've had better elsewhere, but the crust and dough were fantastic. Beef carpaccio was excellent and so were the toppings. The outdoor patio with the greenery makes you feel like you're not in the middle of a parking lot. The inside dining area is just as welcoming. read more

Came for a family birthday dinner. Appreciated they could accommodate 7 people with short notice. Our servers were friendly and helpful. The restaurant is cosy with dark colour and clean lines. Love the lighting. We order calamari and pizzas to start and I really enjoyed the think crust pizzas. There is a pizza oven onsite so they came to the table freshly hot. For our mains, we had an assortment of pastas and the steak. The pastas were served a good portion size and well seasoned. I did find the pasta a bit over cooked but still enjoyed my Boscaiola Bucatini. The steak, we asked for medium rare but came more rare. We let our server know and it was taken back and one was cooked to our liking. Parking is expensive on site at $3/hours and limited availability paid street parking-this would be a factor in my next return. I hear there was free parking but could not find so call the restaurant and ask. Would love to come back for Happy Hour and pizzas. read more

we ordered the ~ calabrese pizza 8/10 ~ gnocchi pesto 6/10 it's absolutely a very cute resto. we sat in the patio but I noticed the benches on the patio are significantly higher than the chairs on the other side of the table so you'll feel like you're way taller than the person you're sitting with. next time I think I'll sit at bar. the pizza was good though slightly oily. the pesto gnocchi I would not order again. I was a bit taken back by the low reviews here on yelp and actually did not visit it the first time I wanted pizza in the area. The second time I was pushed by my mom to come and boy was I impressed. I had pizzas here and the crust was amazing with the right amount of chewiness and crunchiness. The toppings are generous and very fresh. The service was also excellent and combined with a modern and open space decor, it is well suited for many occasions. The fish was tender and cooked just right. My sister and I ordered the Bucatini pasta dish because I saw that it was a popular order. We were informed that the dish was the same they just changed the noodle. We were both like "yea ok that's fine." We were not expecting noodles that look like maggots! The noodles looked very unappetizing but tasted delicious. The noodle for this dish should be changed to a more appealing/appetizing noodle. All in all we had a great time and will definitely be back! read more

Definitely recommend the Bucatini Alla Boscaiola. The pasta is like a hollow rod, and was perfectly al dente. The MUSHROOMS and pancetta were delicious. Carbonara is a classic, rich and creamy dish, which was also very good. I guess ordering both the Bucatini and Carbonara was a bit much, as they're both quite heavy/creamy - I'd pick one or the other. Dropped by with a friend, and me knowing it was Pasta Amore, which I've been a fan of since I was born and raised in the area, this was just ok for me. One thing I would say is that the restaurant is a huge vibe. I love the new building, and the new layout of the restaurant, but it surely is missing the old taste and flavour of Pasta Amore. I love seeing a HUGE pizza oven, and it round and big, but it just doesn't have that homey feel of Pasta Amore, it feels so bland. I do miss that vibe a lot though. The service seems a little sub par, but it is Pasta Amore, I am not surprised. But I was hoping something would have changed. At least I did a reservation, if not they might have forced us to wait for a while. So yay for me being proactive, and on top of that it seems they would totally reject us to seat us at the proper table until I said I wanted to be seated closer inside. No I did not reserve for a bar seating, and it was a Tuesday night. Anyways, onto the food. Me and my friend had to order their pasta and the pizza because I know it is Pasta Amore. We ordered the Linguine Vongole and a Calabrese. The Linguine was delicious, omg the clams were cooked perfectly. The smell of the lunguine can be smelled across the table easily, and the first bites were perfectly cooked aldente. The Pizza came out steamy hot. The Pizza has a typical thin crust, and beautifully simple char on the crust. The calabrese was cooked perfectly. And you can really taste the sweetness of the onions. YUMMY!! I have been here three times in intimate settings, opposed to larger group ones, and I have felt a bit underwhelmed each time. The food fell flat and required salt on many occasions. Many of my dining partners felt the same and thought it odd for Italian food requiring salt. I find the tables too close together as well so it makes for uncomfortable seating and makes you feel crowded and rushed for "taking up space". The bathrooms are clean and nice but the music is so loud in there it feels a bit disorienting. The tiramisu is probably the saviour of the menu but otherwise it was a bit lack lustre of an experience overall. They also have questionable welcoming staff/servers that would rather pay attention to their own friends than assist a busy restaurant filled with other customers. It's all very aesthetically pleasing I just don't have a desire to rush back. Others enjoy it - which is great for them, this just isn't my slice. read more

Came here for their Bite of Burnaby menu, left satisfied! The bruschetta and antipasto were both bigger than expected, with good flavour. The caprese pizza was also large and fresh, with good flavour in the olive oil and pesto. The tortellini was also larger than expected and very delicious, and the cream sauce wasn't too heavy. By the time the lemon tiramisu came around, we were both so stuffed that we had to pack the second slice. The tiramisu was light and sweet, and the lemon isn't overpowering at all. We also ordered a couple of happy hour drinks; I had a $5 flute of Prosecco and my friend had a $5 glass of the house white. Their evening happy hour menu starts at 9 PM, and it looked like there were some solid options there, though we didn't try any. Our service was a little slow, and at one point we were served our dessert before we even got our entrees, but they resolved it quickly and apologized. The servers were nice, we just weren't impressed by them. The other tables around us didn't seem to have a problem with food coming out slow, so I assume it was just a little confusion in the kitchen. The restaurant was also blasting music when we were there, so it was hard to have a conversation even though the two of us were leaning in to chat. Otherwise, nice place for a casual Italian dinner. Overall, the Bite of Burnaby menu was a really great deal to eat some delicious food, but I don't think it was the experience I was looking for. For the meal and tip, I paid about 125. read more

I've been eying this restaurant every time I am around the Solo District. Decided to head over for happy hour and dinner. We shared a margarita pizza as an appie. A nice thin and crunchy crust. I've had better pizza sauces but it was worth the $14, decent amount of mozzarella and fresh basil. We also shared the tagliatelle nere, a mixed seafood, black squid ink pasta, served in a lemon butter sauce. The pasta was a little too el dente for me but, the sauce was perfect! I had mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday, so when they brought out the tiramisu, there was a candle and the server stayed to sing happy birthday. It was perfect and so was the tiramisu. It's a bit cramped however, the ambiance is nice with the high ceilings. Definitely a try and a change from the chain restaurant scene. read more

It was our first time visiting Claudio's - it is an Italian restaurant located very close tacross? from the amazing Brentwood. We ordered couple pastas and one pizza to share. Everything tasted great. The star of the night was the potato truffle pizza, it was one of their specials for the night. The thin crust with bite sized potatoes and prosciutto, along with the rich truffle scent - it was a perfect combination. Recently visited Claudio for a dinner with a group of friends and it certainly is lively and busy in the restaurant! Our table ordered the arancini, seafood tagliatelle, capricciosa pizza, prime rib, panna cotta and tirimisu! Everything arrived pretty quickly considering how busy the restaurant was. The pasta were cooked al denté, had good flavour and was generous in the seafood. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and it was nice it had a side of salad with it too! And desserts are always my favourite part of any Italian dinner! Both of the desserts were very good! The panna cotta was smooth and creamy and I really enjoyed the crunchy toppings they added. We went on a Thursday night to this nicely decorated restaurant and it was full. We sat at the bar, and service is just as attentive. I ordered a refreshing yuzu lemonade, a cherry tomato cucumber salad to share, and two pasta dish. One is a seafood squid ink tagliatelle and the other is tomato sauce braised beef pappardelle. Portion is very generous, salad is quite a bit bigger than other Italian restaurants. The braised beef pappardelle is better seasoned and more bold flavoured, with a hint of heat. The squid ink pasta is a tiny tad over cooked, some tagliatelle is softer and some are Al dente. The butter sauce is great, could use a touch more salt. Their tiramisu is huge and tasted good. I'm happy to find a new Italian restaurant so close to home. My hubby and I were happy and would be back again. read more

Went here on Valentine's Day with my partner. We were sat at a table on the indoor patio area. The tables there were pretty close to each other and we could hear the tables next to us very well, which actually made me feel a bit uncomfortable talking to my partner because it meant they could hear us as well! My partner ordered the pesto gnocchi and I had the truffle campanelle. I thought my dish was good flavour-wise but a bit greasy from the pancetta. My partner had to have his dish remade as he cannot have things that are high in lactose and it unexpectedly had cream in it (which they did not list on the menu) the cheese in the dish was fine as it was well aged so the lactose content was lower. He thought his dish was okay, just very very greasy as well. Overall, the vibe of the place was great! The waitstaff was very kind although I am a bit salty because when browsing through the Italian sodas, my waiter told me the chinotto flavour was a "citrus juice soda" and technically that's what it said on the can, but girl that thing tasted like bad root beer. It was an okay dinner but I don't foresee myself dining here again in the future. read more

The Brie cheese and fig jam with prosciutto was so good together! 10/10. * Carpaccio ($27) ~ this was unique. Ahi Tuna carpaccio was ok but I wished it had more seasoning and flavouring on the tuna to help elevate the texture and capers on the tuna. 4/10. * Carbonara ($22) ~ super creamy and delicious. It was perfectly seasoned pasta was al dente. Chef kiss! 10/10. * Pappardelle manzo brasato ($24)~ this was ok. Strong in red wine flavouring however the pasta was undercooked and a bit too firm. The braised beef belly was good and tender. 5/10. * Chicken parmigiana ($25) ~ the chicken was unevenly salted. But the cheese was nicely melted on top. I liked the side salad it was paired with.
