Pretty new Italian restaurant along Nanaimo,classy and huge looks like it can accomodate morethan 50 clients at a time,somedays of the week this is open for lunch but mostly its a dinner place. Exterior and interior design was really impressive,inside its classic to modern and nostalgic vibes combined. I admired how crews are all very friendly. I tried pasta,the half chicken dish and I would say this close to perfection,price?well its kinda pricey but seems like money is worth,street parking only but its free,the resto is located on ground floor of one newly built condo,I only visited once but im sure I am coming back to try some more of their great dishes in the menu. We visited Foiletta last night for the first time to celebrate our dear friend's birthday, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! There were five of us, and we were warmly greeted by a friendly host who confirmed our reservation and guided us to our table. I had the pleasure of trying the Citrus Grapefruit Spritz cocktail, which was fantastic, and my friends also enjoyed their drinks. We started with a few appetizers, including: * Carne Cruda - raw beef, mushrooms, bagna cauda, smoked egg yolk * Polpo e Patata - grilled octopus & new potato hash, poached egg, salmoriglio * Italian Meatballs with Focaccia Bread Everything was delicious, but the Italian meatballs completely stole the show--soft, fresh, and perfectly seasoned with a touch of spice, just like in Italy . For our main courses: * I ordered the Linguine with geoduck clam, Calabrian chili, and parsley -- fresh, hot, and bursting with flavor. * My friends ordered the Rigatoni all'Arrabbiata with San Marzano tomatoes, Calabrian chili, and stracciatella -- rich, spicy, and comforting. Not a year old and I can see this restaurant's potential. We came on a weeknight and it's fully packed. The ambiance is very appealing. From the curbside, the red brick walls and glass panels look inviting. My first impression was it's a small restaurant. But when we entered, we were ushered into the main dining area and it is huge. It is nice to have a view of the open and busy kitchen. Our server, Ayden, is very friendly. He chatted with us and every question we threw at him were answered, taking time to find out answers for us. Food was definitely delicious. The POLPETTE E SUGO (meatballs) had the texture I expected - light but holds a bite to it. The LINGUINE was a different take - tomato sauce with clam meat. It could be taken a notch higher maybe with hints of anchovy and chili flakes. The BISTECCA FIORENTINA was huge enough for 4 to share. We asked for salt, a shake of coarse salt just elevates the tastes to another level. Overall, a good neighborhood restaurant. Another great place by the WentWorth group of restaurants. The desserts were the winners of the night. Tiramisu was on a whole new level with rich mascarpone crema and cocoa dusting done in front of us. One of my favourite meals at an Italian restaurant to date. I still think about the whipped ricotta. I tried ricotta flavoured gelato for the first time and it was delicious. I came back almost 5 months later and I can say a few things - first, we ordered a lot more things this time around so there was more variety and second, many improvements have been made since the restaurant just opened. For starters, they changed up the menu a bit. The chicken liver paté with butter dates and crostini was delicious - the combination of texture and flavour made it very enjoyable and I could taste the butter on the crostini. I did wish the focaccia paired with the ricotta and truffle on top was warm. Scallop crudo was colourfully played and tasted fruity and fresh. The mains were very up to standard this time - they made improvements to the linguine and changed the flavours. This time it was more spiced and saucy. The large rigatoni and pork shank dish was very delicious! It was nice to have varieties of meatballs, sausage, and pork shank combined with some interesting greens. Upon search, it is a bitter Italian leafy green with a nutty flavour. The porterhouse steak was also well cooked and tasted exactly on par with the standard. Finally, the dessert was my favourite! Tiramisu has entered into the top 3 tiramisus I've had. It checks off perfect levels of sweetness, bitterness, and creaminess while looking extra pretty in the goblet glass. The restaurant was quite busy tonight and there were full tables everywhere around us. A small hiccup did occur where a glass shattered on someone's lap. It's nice to have another Italian restaurant in East Van with plenty of free parking nearby. Comfortable space with high ceilings and an open kitchen. Service was great, our server was knowledgeable and seemed to know the menu like the back of his hand. However, there were too many staff checking in on us and there was a mix-up with dessert. Another server brought us another table's doughnuts so our server never got to put a birthday candle like he'd intended. I liked the fresh pasta especially the rigatoni all'arrabbiata. The stracciatella was so creamy, which paired well with the richness of the tomato sauce. Portions were a bit small for the price. read more

Decent Italian nestled out in East Van. It's got a clean, modern aesthetic. Lots of space and an open kitchen that gives the place a good amount of hubbub and warmth. Part of the same family as Homer St. Cafe and Tableau. Service was excellent. Attentive and knowledgeable. Quick to address any issues. We shared a few dishes across the menu (most dishes are designed to be shared family-style). This was a lot of food, but we were celebrating so over-indulged: - Mozzarella tasting - small-ish portion. Ok for sharing between 2, but not many more than that. Comes with focaccia. Wouldn't get it again. - Barbabietola - Nice dish. Don't usually love beetroot but this was delicious. Slow-cooked beetroot with apple, cambozola, and some nuts. Good to share. - Ragu alla Napoletena - A fantastic sharing dish. There's a lot of meat here, so worth keeping that in mind when making other menu choices. Braised pork shank that melts off the bone. Meatballs, fennel sausage, rigatoni. They forgot the sausages initially, but followed up quickly (sausages were a little pink in the middle). Comes with 3 meatballs, which I always find odd for a plate designed to be shared. - Bistecca Fiorentina - probably overboard on meat with the ragu as well, but this was also great. A large porterhouse with roasted garlic and salmoriglio (like a lighter chimichurri). Cooked perfectly medium rare. Doesn't come with sides so we got the New Potatoes roasted in beef tallow. These were perfect for soaking up any leftovers. The wine list was good (if a little busy) with a lot of Northern Italian reds. The Barolo went great with our dishes. Would definitely go back, but not in a rush. read more

Love an Italian restaurant right in the heart of East Van (that's not the drive). A sister restaurant of Maxine's/Homer Street, the restaurant is spacious and has large open windows facing west-- perfect for golden hour. We walked in and were warmly greeted and quickly got seated at the bar. We enjoyed chatting with the bartender and the fun cocktails they had. The hostess was so sweet and gave us complimentary champagne as me and my girlfriend were celebrating each other's milestones. Our favourite was the ricotta stuffed squash blossoms. Everything was generally good, the pork was kind of tough and not very flavourful. The vibes of the restaurant was chill & it's very spacious. I came back for early dinner. I caught the tail end of their Aperitivo hour (ends at 530pm). Basically happy hour, with a select number of items slightly discounted. They serve regular dinner menu at 5pm so there is a bit of overlap and you can order from both menus. This time we tried: meatballs - not enough sauce, meatballs themselves were a bit dry. Overpriced for only 3 mediocre meatballs and a piece of bread. 3/5. Calamaro - battered fried calamari served on basically a puttanesca sauce. This was great. 5/5. Ricotta with focaccia - why is the bread served cold? Cant even toast it a bit? that would have made this great. instead, you get cold chewy focaccia. The Ricotta on top was ok - had truffle but couldnt taste it. Had honey, maybe a bit too much, and was overpowering. 3/5 but potential to be much better. Bigoli pasta with duck ragu - excellent. 5/5. service was good. No complaints. this visit a bit more disappointing with the food. its too bad because there is so much potential and the food can easily be improved to make it so much better. It shows a lack of attention to detail. Restaurant is still new, clean, comfortable. no concerns there. read more

Ok food and with high end pricing attached to it. Had a bruschetta and what disappointment, usually on hardy bread, extremely flavorful, not this one, it was on a piece of soft bread drenched in butter with a simple anchovy on it. Not really Bruschetta and at $4 each the bread square was 1"X1". Pastas were ok, the Trottole verdi was better than the Linguini, both at $32. It's inexcusable that the past a arrives at the table in a big gummy clumpy plate. The Branzino was very tasty, best dish of the night. But the Vitello Parmigiana was not even close, dried out and overcooked, even sauce was dried out again at $40, just unacceptable. If we were dining at the corner dinner or a chain restaurant (Denny's), perhaps acceptable but its built as an upscale dining experience and just fails to deliver. Final thoughts, red wine was not decanted, affogato was served in an ice cream dish with no way to eat or drink it properly (more ice cream parlor style) felt like were at a restaurant that did not know anything about Italian food or how to serve it read more

We met Bobby Milheron of Folietta at the Divers Catch Gala in Vancouver, BC. He served us the most wonderful Wild Canadian Geoduck Ravioli and it was absolutely incredible. Tiny little puffs of ravioli filled with a galaxy of umami covered with a smooth and creamy drizzle. I could have eaten it all night but there too many others filling in the space behind me. Is it on his regular menu, I asked.... Not yet, but it should be. If it does make it to the lineup, I'm sure the line to get in will be out the door.... New Italian joint in East Van. Walked in curious, walked out emotionally attached. First off, the space is stunning. Bright, open kitchen. Marble bar. Vibe says "I drink Negronis and journal about my feelings." We ordered a full spread because self-control is overrated. Favorites? - The Insalata Mista. I know, it's just a salad... except it's not. It was crisp, tangy, and life-affirming. I'm still thinking about it. - Calamaro was tender and grilled to perfection. Like, actually perfect. - Rigatoni all'Arrabbiata had that spicy, saucy comfort that hits you in your soul. - Trottole con Agnello was hearty, savory, and made me rethink everything I knew about lamb. Everything came out perfectly timed, beautifully plated, and bursting with flavor. And Mike, our server, was a star. He was attentive, made great recommendations, and made us feel genuinely taken care of. read more

I had high hopes for this, but left feeling disappointed. However, I will say our server was fantastic and his recommendation to get the olive oil cake for dessert was the best dish we had that night. I made a reservation for 6pm, but when we arrived our table wasn't ready. We waited around 20 minutes before we could be seated. They did offer us a small drink while we waited, which was nice. Atmosphere wise I did like how big and open the restaurant was. The large windows let in lots of light (but almost too much as some diners were wearing sunglasses inside). Our table also felt awkwardly placed and there wasn't much room between the other table and for people to walk by. Another thing though was that the restaurant was soooo loud. It was hard to hear the host when we were checking in. We tried a variety of dishes. Foccacia- for $7 it didn't seem very special. They didn't serve the oil/balsamic right away with the bread. The bread was quite fluffy but didn't seem really like a foccacia or have any special flavours. It'd be nice if it was served with a unique condiment. Calamaro - enjoyed how tender the squid was and it was crisp. However it was quite salty. To be fair it was served with puttanesca so the capers contributed to that, but it felt like it could use some acid to balance it out. Linguine- the geoduck was tender and I liked the texture and shape of the pasta. However, the pasta was quite heavy and felt like it needed some acid or more spice to balance it out. Trottole con agnello- again, I liked the shape of pasta and it was cooked al dente. However the sauce was very one note. Polpo alla griglia (Octopus)- we love a grilled octopus and the fennel went well with it. I also enjoyed the cannellini beans. However, it felt like it was missing some acidity and again was a bit salty with nothing else to cut through it. By the end of the meal we weren't really feeling satisfied. However we saw desserts come out to other tables and it looked promising. With the servers recommendation, we had the torta alla'olio d'oliva (olive oil cake) and this was a great way to end our meal. We loved the flavours and tartness of the rhubarb. After our experience, we're likely not going to be coming back. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes or since they just opened and they're figuring things out. But after trying so many dishes and having only one wow us, it was a disappointing meal. read more

Great east Vancouver neighbourhood gem and had a true downtown vibe. You'll find items not typically served at a western restaurant, and let alone at an Italian restaurant. For a moment we thought we were seeing an Asian / Japanese menu. We were truly delighted to see Geoduck and Octopus on the menu so we had to order the linguine with Geoduck and the Octopus! The Geoduck Linguine was perfectly cooked. The Octopus with beans were good size portion. The octopus was also very tasty but it can be more tender. The sauces from both dishes were so good, we ordered focaccia just to wipe up all the sauces. read more

My review is solely for dessert, as this place is really in my neighbourhood, and after eating dinner at home, I had to see what this new kid had to offer. So we came in on the second day and because of what we wanted we did not care where we sat, so we took a table near the bar on the right side of the restaurant. The place has two separate rooms, the bar side, and the main dining room, with the bar side, there's quite a big bar area, with seats right in front, and a few smaller tables with higher chairs. The dining room was made up with a multitude of tables, and a sort of built in booth seating portion for some of the tables. There is also front seating at a bar like space right in front of the kitchen at the far left of the restaurant where you can see how your food is prepared. From the outside of the restaurant you can also view the entire works of this kitchen, quite impressive, and I would never imagine that a place like this could open in this neighbourhood... it's nice. OK, you want to know about what the heck did I eat, so we asked our server Brenda, who helped us with describing the desserts and picking the Torta All'Olio D'Oliva (olive oil cake) and the Terrina Al Cioccolato (dark chocolate terrine cake) and then we also ask for a good pairing, which Brenda really pulled one, an iced Amaro, which amazingly enough worked, especially with the chocolate terrine cake. Both desserts came out beautifully presented, and not miniature, there was a good amount. The olive oil cake was nice and moist, and the poached rhubarb that came with it was a good balance, I kinda wanted more rhubarb pieces (me speaking selfishly), the star was the chocolate terrine cake, something about the toasted hazelnuts, and the maldon salt that was mixed in made this rich, but also a dish that the spoon kept going back to, and when have the sip of Amaro on ice...... just perfect. I know this place is in it's infancy, but a great start, and to our server Brenda, thank you for your recommendations, you made the night, and I look forward to trying the savory's on the menu, and sitting on the other side of the restaurant. This place is gorgeous! The service is good as well. I was very impressed with the layout and decor of this restaurant and it reminded me of a number of restaurants in Yaletown, but here in this neighborhood. My friends and I came here for brunch. This pricing isn't out of line for a fancy place like this but do expect to pay about $25+ a dish. The food was tasty and the presentation was excellent so there is value in that. I am used to larger portion sizing but the food was not out of line for similar types of restaurants. You will get a solid dining experience here and pay approximately for it. My staff had our Xmas party here. It was my first time here. I was please surprised to find such an upscale Italian restaurant in East Vancouver with prices to match. We took over the private dining room upstairs. The decor was very nice and I would return just for this. Service was very good. Food was served family style and it was good but not as outstanding as the decor and service. The red wine did not stop flowing. Parking isn't great, but you can't have everything. I note that they have brunch. I would come back for the service and ambience. I would have my office dinner here again. read more

Carne Cruda -- $22 (Happy Hour), $26 (Regular) Description: Raw beef, mushrooms, bagna cauda, smoked egg yolk Comments: Personally, I think this would be better named Carpaccio--"raw beef" doesn't sound particularly appealing. The mention of bagna cauda also threw me off. This Northwestern Italian starter bagna cauda traditionally refers to a warm dip made of anchovies, garlic, and olive oil--literally translating to "warm bath." This dish, however, was served cold, which was unexpected. I initially thought it would be more like a fondue, where you dip your beef, but that wasn't the case. 2. Linguine -- $32 Description: Geoduck clam, Calabrian chili, parsley Comments: This dish totally redeemed the experience. If the Carne Cruda didn't meet our expectations, the Linguine certainly did. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the seasoning and spice level were spot on, and the geoduck was cooked beautifully. A standout. We'll definitely be back to try more of the mains next time. I hit up Folietta, the new Italian spot in East Vancouver, with three others for dinner. Getting a reservation was tough since it's been packed since opening, but the lively vibe was worth it--upscale with big windows, open space, and folks sipping (probably complimentary) wine in the lobby. The menu was small but had plenty of choices, though we had to Google some dishes to figure them out. We started with appetizers: focaccia prosciutto tasting, calamaro, and carne cruda. The focaccia was tasty but too small for sharing, and the prosciutto was just okay. The calamaro and carne cruda however were delicious--crispy squid with creamy tomato sauce and velvety raw beef with a garlicky kick--but portions were tiny for four. For mains, we got linguine and trottole, both solid with bold flavours as well as the breaded veal chop in tomato sauce, hefty and juicy but needed a side like veggies. Dessert stole the show. The tiramisu was creamy and coffee-forward but almost frozen, which gave it a weirdly refreshing texture. The salted caramel pudding was a silky, rich masterpiece with just enough salt to balance the sweetness. Overall, The atmosphere was loud but fun, not annoying, and the drink menu had plenty of wines and cocktails. Portions were smaller than expected for the price, but the food was delicious. read more

The best dinning experience we have had this year! The food took us right back to Italy with a little West Coast twist (geoduck linguine) was incredible. The cocktails were thoughtfully prepared and complimented the menu perfectly. The atmosphere of the restaurant was fun and relaxed and the staff were absolutely on it!
