Came to Earls after 9:30pm for Happy Hour and it was still busy in the restaurant. They have a great selection of cocktails, wine, and drinks on the HH drink menu -- definitely one of the better happy hour drink lists in town. For food, there's also a nice range of choices. We tried the avocado dip, $5 which was super refreshing and paired perfectly with the crispy chips. The Margherita pizza $12 came out nice and warm right from the oven -- simple, fresh, and delicious. I also ordered the Picante Margarita $5 and wow -- such a fun surprise! It has a spicy kick that's not like your usual margarita, but it works so well. Unexpected and really tasty. The Salmon aburi was another standout $15-- beautifully torched, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I've been to Earls Richmond a few times over a long span of time and I always thought it's a hit or miss. Firstly, the ambiance is upscale and sophisticated whether you're having brunch or a nice night out with your friends/family. The tables are booths-style and quite spacious. For such kind of restaurants, you can almost have guaranteed service from your servers. For the times I've gone to for dinners, I would have given them a 2-star. I found dinner prices to be overpriced for the food I received. The food was mediocre and nothing to rave about. I felt that I was just paying a hefty price to be in an upscale setting. In other words, I was paying for the ambiance. I've been to happy hour brunch a couple of times now and I gave my experience a 4 star. The prices are very good during happy hour and the food is also delicious. I've ordered the chorizo hash as well as the prawn benedict and I've found both to be very satisfying. All brunch plates come with a refreshing and colorful salad, as well as "layered" hash browns. Basically, instead of a "crepe cake", think "crepe potatoes". They were quite interesting and definitely gave the brunch extra points. To conclude, I'll only go back to Earls for happy hour brunch or happy hours but not for their regular menus. I had a nice dinner gathering with 4 other friends at Earls in Lansdowne Mall. We picked the location because of the ease of finding parking and also knowing that there will be something on the menu for our diverse diet restrictions. Earls did not disappoint, we were sat comfortably in a table and there was even an extra seat for us to put our bags. The service was also excellent, the server helped us made up our minds by answering our questions about the menu and helping us make changes to the order (e.g. having double portions of vegetables). I ordered cajun chicken fettuccine alfredo. The taste of the chicken and pasta was perfect, I especially like how the pasta was cooked to the perfect texture and how the sauce clings onto it. The length of the pasta was just right for me to pick up with a fork. The only thing missing for this dish is the lack of vegetables and the portion size, I was still hungry after finishing it. Three people in my party ordered the Atlantic salmon and they all wanted double vegetables. However, when their food came out, the portion sizes all look different. One person had a particularly small portion and, compared to the other two, she seemed to get only a single portion of vegetable. When we told the server of the issue, he offered to bring out extra vegetables for us and gave us a generous portion as compensation. We were very happy with the arrangement. We were very satisfied with the environment. The low lighting presented some challenge for us to read the menu as we are all seniors. The prices was on the high side given the small portion of food, but we felt the service was excellent and we were able to sit and chat for a long time after we finished our meals, we would definitely come back again for our next gathering. read more

My daughter and I came to Earls at Lansdowne Centre in Richmond for Happy Hour. We shared a Margherita pizza and a Gingerbread Molten Lava Cake. I've been to multiple locations of Earls restaurants over the years and the food is usually good, but I have to admit that this time the food was disappointing. Margherita Pizza: The pizza was divided into 6 pieces. Half the pizza was burnt. I meant that quite literally as 3 out of 6 pieces had burnt crust on them. I bit the bullet and ate all 3 of the burnt pieces while allowing my daughter to eat the 3 unburnt pieces. Gingerbread Molten Lava Cake: There was a Gingerbread flavor in this cake but it was not at all Molten Lava-ish. The cake arrived with some kind of sauce sitting on top. That was the only liquidy element we could detect in this dish. Normally, with any kind of molten lava cake we'd expect to cut into the cake with our forks and see some kind of moist and gooey centre oozing out. Nothing of the sort happened with this cake. It was completely dry in the middle, and the cake itself was nothing to write home about. It was quite dense and overall, a huge disappointment.  Given the number of good experiences we've had at various locations of Earls in the past, I'd like to believe that this was either just an isolated incident or that these two particular menu items were subpar. I have been to another Earl's location with the same happy hour brunch menu for $9.75 2 weeks ago. We made reservations for 10:30am. The restaurant was already 80% full and bustling. The service was really good with attentive staff. We got seated immediately. We ordered: - eggs Benedict- it was very good! Different with bread I instead of English muffin. It did get a bit soggy, last bite - chorizo hash - potatoes were well done crispy, egg had the prefect run and chorizo was mashed up. - chicken & waffle - it's spicy fried chicken and super crispy. This restaurant seems to have been updated throughout the last few years. It's now much brighter, casual and has a good friendly vibe. Plenty of parking available on this side of Landsdowne Mall. The hostess helped us set up a table when we came in for a group of 5 and when we sat down our waitress Erika was by right away to make sure we were taken care of. We only had items from the Happy Hour menu - drinks and appetizers/entrees were reasonably priced and decent quality. There was a loud table next to us which wasn't really a bother. The waiter is very rude and assume my $100 gift card to be a $50 gift card and he charged $50 on my first card and threw it in the garbage bin. He then came back for paying the balance. Bacon Burger $26 - boring, patty was thin like McDonalds and too over done. Fries were also overdone. It doesn't taste too much like alcohol but sparkling water / sprite - if i had to choose a flavour probably the peach and orange blossom. I prefer the margaritas over them for sure Highballs $6-8 - house tequila 0/10 (its a shot, what did you expect? But better than vodka) it won't taste good no matter what it is. They give you a lime chaser which i highly appreciated! I would never buy shots at full price again because it is not worth it. Really make sure you let the shot hit you before you drink more alcohol because you do not want to get wasted at an earls. Ordered their thanksgiving family meal and it was a big disappointment. The turkey was so salty it was almost not edible. I had to rinse the turkey with water and there was not much gravy. It's suppose to be a meal for 4 people but there was only enough gravy for maybe 2 people. The stuffing was not edible either because it was drenched in salt. For Afternoon Happy Hour my kids and I adore their personal sized Margarita pizza for $4/ each. All pizza are made to order in a special pizza stove, always crispy and not too much sauce. Second thing I recommend is Garlic Fries. Crispy fries topped with fresh garlic, there are a few times they are a bit too generous with their garlic. At $4/ each I say goes perfect with their Happy Hour Beer (12oz / $3.50). Hubby always like to order their better burger with fries ($13). Meat and buns are always tender but end of day it's nothing too special. I also like Tuna Ahi poke ($16), their portion is very generous, a whole half of avocado, and over 1oz of tuna. Rested on a bed of brown sushi rice this is a great early dinner. Recent visit did reflect this location need some work especially with the washroom, the men washroom door handle is broken off, making it easy to be trapped in the washroom. I have been twice, and my last time I was giving this place another chance as my first bad experience could have been due to the timing, the guests, the atmosphere etc etc. So this time I went during the afternoon and the waitress made us feel like my guest and I were not existent. Outstanding customer service. Service is consistently above standard at this location with smiles. We had an issue some time ago and hadn't been able to return for dine in with the pandemic. I was given a voucher and fortunately there was no expiration date. I called to double check we could use it and was given the green light. Upon arrival, everything went smoothly. While waiting for our food, the GM (Brian if I recall correctly) introduced himself and chatted a bit. We weren't expecting that at all. He said he would take care of us and they really did. We trusted he would know our taste buds after we told him what we liked and he made us all custom drinks. 2.5 I struggle with where to start with this review because this location is a gamble. Over the past few months I've visited with various parties who too had hit and miss experiences. Some 4/5 days some 1/5 days. The food is either great with poor to mediocre service or mediocre food with decent service - more often the former. We've reached out to Earl's to praise positive experiences as well as to leave room for improvement feedback, and haven't once received as much as a "your comment is noted and sucks" reply or something to that effect. I guess because people keep coming back, management at this location isn't concerned about prioritizing feedback of any sort. Our most recent visit, involved great food and drinks, a front of the house staff member having a very bad day and took it out on my poor birthday friend, and a friendly but mostly absent server.
