Earl's breakfast
Audrey L.

We came for brunch and had a good experience. We came on a Sunday morning and were able to get seated right away. I got the Earl's breakfast which came with 2 eggs, bacon, toast, crispy potatoes, and side salad. This was a nice variety of food for a breakfast plate, the only downside was that the potatoes were too salty. Everything else was great though! We also shared some truffle fries and sweet potato fries. I especially liked the sweet potato fries but both were tasty. I liked the aioli dipping sauce the fries came with!

It was my first time here. Ambiance was beautifu compared to the one in Guildford area unless it was updated recently. Servers and service was awesome. Food was delicious.

Came here for brunch. The parking is good cause they validate and it's free for 3 hours. No other reason why we would go to Brentwood if we have to pay for parking. The restaurant opens at 10 am on the weekend which is nice. There are barely any customers. Even at 12, the restaurant wasn't even 1/4 full. They have a happy hour brunch menu which is $2-4 cheaper than their regular menu. Not sure if the portions are the same or smaller but the price could be cheaper. The classic Benedict was pretty small and not very tasty. They use one piece of bread instead of English muffins. The ham is thin sliced deli ham which was disappointing. You get 6 pieces of potatoes which was chintzy. It was not very good. White spot does a much better Benedict. Def needs improvement. The deluxe burger was alright. For $27 I would expect it to be really good. Earls definitely isn't what it used to be. They took all the good items off the menu and the current items are average at best. Sad. We used to go to Earls every week in the 90s but lucky if we go once a year now.

Awesome late night happy hour. Tried their new happy hour menu and really enjoyed their new 1/2 price cocktails. The grape crush high ball was great. Loved their $5 mini cheekie shots - I got the cheeky green tea and it was so smooth. As for food, oysters on the half shell ($3.5) were great as well as the petite steak frites ($14). Shoutout to Adam - he was a great server tonight.

I ordered their pollo tacos. The taco itself was delicious! However, the tortilla chips on the side was waaaayyy too salty. Do make reservations! It gets crowded dinner time.

Cute location. They've really done it up well. I didn't realize how open, big and spacious it is looking at it from the outside. They get really busy so I would recommend a reservation if you can do that! It's very convenient too having it so close to the skytrain station so that's great. We went to this location for brunch and they have a pretty decent menu. Unfortunately for me, I'm dairy free and all their brunch menu items contain dairy so I ordered a vegan item from their regular menu. It was actually very delicious. I really like it! I didn't realize though that it was a cold dish when I ordered it (kinda like a salad) but can't complain coz it was good. Service was wonderful as well.

Yo, I been rollin' up to Earls since way back--one of my all-time faves, ya feel? Bruh, I even used to work at Earls! So in my mind, Earls will always be on check, straight up. But yo, this time? Man, I ain't vibin' with how it went down. Stepped in, and one of the hosts was lookin' at us like we was lost or somethin'. Ain't even hit us with that warm welcome--just straight-up icy. And check this--she passin' out free appetizers to folks comin' in after us, but we ain't get no love. Like, hold up, I used to be one of y'all! Guess I ain't look the part no more? Felt real boujee and high-key shady. And bruh, I really wanted to try them apps, but whatever, I ain't lettin' that mess up my night. They had this three-course meal deal poppin' off, and yeah, it was aight. But when they said "mini" dessert, they wasn't playin'--that joint was straight-up microscopic, like some kinda ant-sized snack. Service was mid, nothin' crazy. They did dial down the beats a bit from last time, but it's still mad loud--tryna have a convo in there be like yellin' across a club. And yo, what's up with the Cajun Blackened Chicken? That joint gettin' smaller and drier. Still hits, but it ain't bussin' like it used to. But yo, one thing that got me twisted--they rollin' with Maker's Mark bourbon? Man, this Canada! Where's the support for local? Other spots out here pushin' solid Canadian whisky, but Earls out here actin' like we in Kentucky. Ain't no shade to Maker's Mark, but c'mon, rep the home team! Big ups tho--they got that free parking check-in, and that's a real W. Ain't gotta stress 'bout pullin' up and droppin' a bag just to park. Earls still be solid, but bruh, it's gettin' real snooty and extra posh. Guess that's just how Vancouver/Burnaby roll these days. I guess you gotta dress and look different to be acceptable now at Earls. But I'm still hip, I'm down, I know what the 411 is, and I can still get jiggy with it!!! GOTTA WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?!? ELBOWS UP CANADA!

Came for Dineout and was able to try a variety of dishes! We ordered the spicy California roll, avuri salmon, Cajun chicken, chicken fettuccine, citrus noodle salad, prawn Benedict, cheesecake and toffee pudding! All our food came out super fresh and our server was amazing!

Tuna sesame noodles bowl
Queenie L.

I got the tuna sesame noodles and it was really good. Maybe I was just hungry but it was surprisingly good and the lettuce on top just added the extra crunch that the dish needed. The tuna was also flavourful so all around 10s for this dish. My boyfriend loved the steak frites but I personally think I've had more tender cuts of steak before so I wasn't mind blown. I also wasn't a fan of how your choice of peppercorn sauce or truffle butter was an extra $4.00 on the receipt but it might have been part of the cost and just separated on the receipt (not too sure). I normal prefer thick cut fries too so overall the noodles were the clear winner for me. I paired my meal with the winter sangria and didn't find it too different from a regular sangria so just pick red of you like red and white if not.

Looks like Earls moved from their old Gilmore location (it's now called Birdies and is also owned by the same family apparently) and now has a nice new shiny location at the Amazing Brentwood. The location is next to the large exterior fountain. Parking is free on the N side of Brentwood (by London Drugs). The lot on the S side where the restaurant is isn't free, but I think there may be some reimbursement scheme. The place is large and modern and trendy, as expected from this chain. Staff are friendly and professional. Jumbo lump crab cake - single thing that's not too big. To be honest it's not the best for sharing. Comes with some fennel on top, and served in some sauce with a wedge of lemon. Squishy but tasty. Earls wings - Some 8 medium sized wings and drumsticks. Served with ranch and hot sauce, and a few celery sticks. Tuna ahi poke bowl - nice and fresh. Served with chunks of avocado, shredded carrots, and chunks of pineapple, radish, and cucumber. Everything goes together quite nicely. Portion size is a bit small though. Rice underneath the whole pile of stuff. Definitely a nice place to socialize while eating. I'd come back.

I came in for a redemption experience and need to update my review to reflect the better service we received this time around. We were greeted by two very friendly hosts and were seated as per request at the bar. The bar itself was not busy but the restaurant was starting to get slowly full table wise. We ordered from the happy hour menu had spicy tuna sushi tacos(yum), prawn sushi taco(yum), yam fries (get extra aioli) , roast beef sliders(meh), Angry Lettuce Wrap Duo(yum) and the Wagyu Beef Oshi Press(the winner). Also had the sticky chocolate toffee pudding cake (could have been a tad warmer with more sauce in the center) and the pumpkin pie(delicious). The major hit was the Wagyu Beef Oshi Press! Absolutely delicious. I also had the Crystal Margarita which was refreshing. Service was attentive and professional. Food does take a little bit to get out to you.

Earls Kitchen + Bar at The Amazing Brentwood opened last week. It is large, spacious & grand. The vibe is alluring - come with friends & family - you'll have a great time. Earls is an excellent addition to the bustling Amazing Brentwood Mall that continues to expand. See my pix! The decor is lush, upscale & decorated with unique art pieces. My favourite Earls location in the summer is in West Vancouver - see that review for pix. This new location here in Burnaby, will be my favourite all winter long. I was keen to try a new menu item so I had the Truffle & Steak Tortellini (Truffle cream, ricotta, spinach, seasonal vegetables, Grana Padano) & it was as they say in Italy - magnifico! The Sirloin comes in 3oz, 6oz or 9oz offering. My 3oz was just perfectly filling. A 6oz Filet cut is available as well. The Biryani Chicken was also pleasantly surprisingly very good. Was hesitant to try it as there's a couple of really good Indian restaurants I've been to that are simply masters at making it. I would definitely get it again. Please note - pay parking is in effect here. For 2 hours free parking, make sure you scan the QR code by the main entrance of Earls & follow the prompts. Yelpies Earls was super busy so do make a reservation. Happy eating.

They sent us a notification 30 minutes earlier than quoted so we finished up at the bar, paid our tab and walked over. We were seated in the corner area that only had one other table neighbor. Our drinks were great. The presentation even more entertaining. None of us were particularly hungry, but the table decided to get the donuts. Let me just first mention that it was dark af in there. We got two orders so that two people could share one. I took two bites and knew something was off. My friend took a bite and immediately said it didn't taste right. The other side took a bite of theirs and said the same thing. One person decided to turn the flashlight on their phone and flashed it at both plates to see what exactly was wrong. Them donuts were burnt. Fully. We called our server over who confirmed they were in fact burnt and told us she would take them off the bill. It was a bummer to have this be the end of our first day in the city.

We had the best time at Odd Society, and I am still smiling two days later. Initially perplexed,…read moresince our Uber dropped us off one block away, we had no idea where we were in the dark of the Canadian night. Surrounded by warehouses, did the driver want us to experience a "call of the wild?" However, Odd Society beckoned one block from the corner, and two seats were available at the strange bar. Strange because our view was blocked by a kind of ersatz plastic and wood wagon wheel blocking our view of the servers and bar. It was reminiscent of Utah's Zion Curtain. Later, I was told it was part of Odd Society's Covid protection and helped the bartenders stack things up. Okay, fine, but tear the damn things down. They're obnoxious. Odd Society creates an array of liquors made from ingredients sourced locally by law. It's required by their license. I tried almost all of them, and most were fantastic. Abby and Colin, our servers, were charming, fun, and educational, answering my questions, which became increasingly inane as the alcohol took effect. The distillery also mixes fantastic cocktails, and mine, named Midori, was friggen unbelievable. I had two of them along with my liquor tasting. My Midori was made with a special concoction called Portuguese Sweet Milk, or something like that. It was amazing. I want one for breakfast. The fun kept coming, and I didn't want to leave. Alas, we had reservations at Lunch Lady up the street. We should have stayed at Odd Society. Lunch Lady was a disappointment. Try Odd Society out as both a distillery and cocktail bar. You won't be disappointed about either one.

In summary, the place was ok, but noticed after the fact that we were overcharged for the drinks. It's a small space - about 3 high tables, one lower one, each seating 4 to maybe at most 5 people, plus a bar. I reserved a table for the 2 of us at 3:30 pm on a Sunday (earliest reservation they had as they open at 3 pm) and we were seated at 3 pm. They checked our vaccine passports and then seated us. Not long after we were seated, the remaining tables were all taken just after opening for 30 minutes so I would recommend reserving if you prefer tables over bar seating. The waitress brought over a drinks menu and food menu. The menu showed cocktails at $13. We chose our drinks and ordered, then the waitress came by with a second menu that she said was for Sunday only. She apologized and said she normally doesn't work Sunday's so she didn't know this promotional menu was available. This menu had some cocktails on promotion that I would have not minded to try, but I had already received my cocktail. Oh well. I had the Violet and Claire, which looked great and tasted pretty good for the first half. However by the second half of the drink, it started to taste too sweet. It was not bad for a cocktail, overall. My friend said the Smoke Between the Sheets cocktail was alright as well. We got our bills quickly as we had a second place to visit afterwards. After paying, I snapped a picture of the bill at the time but did not notice until I got home that to my surprise, each cocktail was listed on the bill at $14.95. I recalled their physical menu saying $13, and verified this with their menu online. Unfortunately, I did not notice the discrepancy until I was home, otherwise I would have mentioned something. Note that our visit was at the end of November 2021, and at the time I'm writing this review (December 26, 2021), their online menu still has cocktail prices at $13. So, I am not sure if this was a one time mistake when we paid, or if they have just forgotten to update their menu? Either way, this was disappointing. Because of the entire experience I probably won't visit again, especially with all the other options Vancouver has for cocktails.

I've certainly heard about this place before, but peeking-in, we only saw one table of customers eating, so I was a little unsure about it. But we starting to get hungry, so we gave it a try. This place is not big, but feels very stylish and lush. The host was super friendly and gave us open choice where to sit. The kitchen menu was very limited at that time, which made it easy to pick a few items to sample: - Sun Seeker Oysters: Excellent. Foam has not been popular food trend for awhile, but when used smartly, it works, and it certainly worked well here. - In-House Cured Skewer (Veal Tongue): Excellent. I was blown away by this one. I guess I've never had veal tongue before. It was so incredibly tender, it almost melted in my mouth. About the same tenderness I would expect from a A5 wagyu. - In-House Cured Skewer (Pork Belly): Excellent. This is a little more traditional, but perfectly prepared, so it was bubbly/crispy on the outside and great caramelized flavour. - Canh Spot Chua Tom: Good. I found this dish hard to judge. The server explained that the dish is inspired by Vietnamese Hot & Sour Soup (Canh Chua) but served cold. I'm not sure I could connect the two. The combination of spot prawn, burrata, sorbet, fennel and basil oil was unusual but good, and got better with each bite. I really have nothing to compare it to because its so different to the original inspiration and anything else I've had. But I still enjoyed it. Service was really good. Being only 1 of 3 customers helped, but our server was friendly and interactive, and took the time to explain all the dishes served. I really enjoyed this visit. I always worry that some places gets lots of social media attention, and once the hype is gone, they fade away because they can't meet the hype. But the food and service really hit above my expectations. It's definitely pricey, but I think you get really high level imagination and execution in the food they serve.

The interior was super cute but small/intimate. This would be a good place to go on a date night as the volume inside wasn't deafening; you could easily carry on a conversation with your dining partners (surprisingly, I can't say this about many restaurants lately - especially in Yaletown!). The center of the restaurant is occupied by a bar-island. You'd think with a name like "Alchemy" that they'd be known for their cocktail concoctions here but, IMO, this cute place is more of a pasta/bistro/pub than a cocktail lounge. Their alcoholic beverage menu seemed more run-of-the-mill standard to me. Here are the positives: -the staff here are AMAZINGLY nice and attentive. Like, SO nice and friendly! -there's a pretty fast turnover time between ordering and receiving your foods and drinks. -as mentioned above, the restaurant is cute and intimate, there's a nice patio, and the interior volume is very reasonable. -they have a really good happy hour menu, and it's every single day, from 3-6pm. -they have a daily special, including "pasta Monday", where every pasta dish costs $17.95. -their everyday menu is pretty varied with quite a few options for "pub" food (i.e., pasta and pizza, chicken wings and burgers, and mains that include steak and salmon and chicken). Their desserts look pretty decent, too. (The creme brûlée sounds particularly good!). We were there for Happy Hour, so I got a glass of excellent pinot Grigio and my friend ordered a Malbec (or two!), and we shared a Margherita pizza and some tortilla chips with artichoke dip. The presentation of the chips and dip was amazing (a neighboring table had ordered this dish and it looked so good, we had to order it too). And both the pizza and the chips and dip were really good. Really good. The only reason I'm deducting a star is because there was a dirty napkin on the floor by my feet. That was kinda a turn-off for me. The rest of the table and restaurant were very clean. It was just this one dirty napkin. (I took a photo, attached). (Wish there was a way to just deduct half a star TBH). This was a fun local place, with very reasonable prices for good bistro-like fare, and the staff here was fantastic. I'd definitely return.
