My friend, Ivan P. and I went vegan for the day, so we stopped by to try some doughnuts after having dinner at Champ's Diner. The store is small, with some seating at the window and a few tables. I'm pretty sure the doughnuts are made in house, since I could see the bakery from the counter where the doughnuts are displayed. The woman who took my order was very friendly and helped me decide which doughnut I wanted. At first, I wanted the chocolate vanilla pecan doughnut, but after she had already put it in my bag, I noticed the peanut butter chocolate doughnut. I only wanted one so I asked her if I could switch them. She was very nice and just told me that the second doughnut was on her. People are convinced that all vegan food is healthy. Definitely not the case for these delicious doughnuts. They were definitely fatty and sugary. I was a big fan of both my doughnuts. The peanut butter chocolate had a nice peanut butter frosting, that went well with my steamed lavender milk. The chocolate vanilla pecan was tasty as well. Prices are fair at $2 something a doughnut. I have gone here a few times already because donuts are probably one of my favorite kind of desserts and I am always looking to try plant based sweets. I will say that these do have a different texture and taste from your typical non vegan donut but I still enjoyed the ones I've tried. This will probably not substitute your traditional donut but it definitely has some unique flavors that are worth checking out if you are ever in Williamsburg. When say printing service I'm embellishing because it was literally just a printer from a third-party company that allows you to print documents by paying a small fee and emailing your document to the company. So crazy good! I stopped in while in town visiting, thinking I'd eat one and leave a few for my hosts. Didn't happen... I inhaled 5 that night and had the last one for breakfast the next day. They were soooo good, even though I got them right before closing, which also meant I didn't have a lot of flavor options to choose from. The filled PB&J was excellent (I was a little afraid it would be too much, but it was my favorite), as were the triple chocolate, almondine, and other flavors. What I most appreciated was the flavor and texture combination. These were full of flavor, not fluffy sugar bombs. They were not as dense as traditional cake donuts, and not as "nothing" as typical glazed. And they're big. I've never been much of a donut person, but I am seriously craving more of these. I love Dun-Well, and was so bummed out when they closed the Saint Marks shop last year. Luckily, the original Williamsburg location is still open, boasting a display case full of doughnuts, all vegan and all delicious. During my most recent visit, I selected two flavors I'd never tried before: Apple Pecan and Lemon Cookie. The Apple Pecan is spot-on - the apple glaze is sticky and sweet, and the crumbled pecans provide a nice crunch, a contrast to the soft and chewy dough. I initially expected a much sugarier taste (although I had hoped it wouldn't be sickeningly sweet), but fortunately, that wasn't the case. The Lemon Cookie is Girl Scout-inspired, with a zesty glaze. The texture of the crushed lemon cookies on top resembles the crumble found on the Apple Pecan. I personally prefer that over larger cookie pieces, which can fall off or otherwise clash with the doughnut's airiness. The Maple French Toast and classic Cinnamon Sugar are a couple of my longtime favorites, but to be honest, I haven't disliked any of their flavors. Either I have a natural talent for picking excellent varieties, or Dun-Well has truly mastered the art of the vegan doughnut. I'm inclined to believe it's the latter. read more

They offer discounts if you buy more so I recommend you buy them by the dozen haha. The interior is clean and spacious. I decided on 1 french toast flavor and 1 mini strawberry with sprinkles. My favorite was the strawberry. It was just the right amount of sweet, and the size was perfect; filling enough but not large enough to be an outright crime. The french toast flavor did not in my opinion resemble french toast, but it too was delicious, and the flavor unconventional. Of course there was maple, and cinnamon. Beyond that I'm not sure but it was complex. A complex doughnut. Never thought I'd be saying that hah. The texture of every doughnut I've eaten here has been spot on. I grew up in a town with an amazing mom-n-pop doughnut shoppe (yes, shoppe) so my benchmark is set high. Dun-well gets it right; they're airy while chewy and substantial but not heavy. Words are failing me. This is chemistry, people. I also had a lavender lemonade. Wow was that thing refreshing and fragrant and tasty. It was the perfect accompaniment to my sugar binge. But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see that Rob Thomas actually named his band "Matchbox 20" after a box of 20 donuts that he once bought here, which he thoroughly devoured at 3am (when he must be lonely), one of the donuts was a little Bent but he managed to get it Back To Good. Then he wrote a song about "wondering what it's like to be a Donut Maker." These are pretty good I guess considering they are vegan, but why bother trying to be healthy when you are eating doughnuts? I tried a bunch of them, and nothing really wowed me the way some of the doughnuts at Doughnut Plant and Dough do. I tried the Chocolate with Peanuts, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and The Elvis (Peanut Butter and Banana) (hmm, I think I kind of like Peanut Butter). They were all pretty good, but maybe a little bit dry for doughnuts. I bet the Doughnut Sundae is amazing though, and I kind of wish I got that too. It's got your very typical funky, hipster atmosphere in here, with vegan hipster employees and some very good, expensive coffee options to go with your doughnuts. It's hard to have sweets that satisfy my sweet tooth when fall under the vegan category. Dun-Well Doughnuts is worth the trek to the Montrose L stop for the best vegan doughnuts in town. I recently returned to the neighborhood to check out some of my fave spots and had to stop by for my donut fix. And I was ecstatic to see that there was a large array of donuts to pick from. And then I heard the skies from above and a light shined onto the best donut of them all ------P-I-S-T-A-C-H-I-O! Yessss! This donut had my name all over it. And it was a mouthwatering first bite. The pistachio flavor is all in the frosting glaze. I couldn't believe how much pistachio flavor came through with just the icing and it sat on top of the fluffy donut. There was also a light amount of chocolate sprinkles. Unfortunately the icing kept trying to escape after every bite. It crumbed down to the counter or my little log slice plate. I wish I would've had a bowl that would catch all the yumminess. Still I will be returning to get my fix for pistachio goodness. I have to also mention Dun-Well has a great comfy feel. I love the red patterned wall paper accenting the donut shelves. And I adore the vintage lamps. And the jar of Dun-Well Doughnut pins is the new flare for my jean jacket. And I also want to mention the guy working was super sweet and let me pay after I was done eating. I just moved to the neighborhood and saw this was close by and had to check it out. I'm extremely picky when it comes to 'vegan' / healthy pastries. Omg these are the absolute best donuts I've ever had. The variety of flavors are to die for. The cinnamon roll specialty flavor you can only catch sometimes is well with the extra cost. Oooey gooey and vegan. Be prepared to buy extra because one will not be enough. The Lemon had such a great balance of sweet yet tart. Maple French toast was the perfect match for your inner child gettin your fave kids cereal but adulting with the healthy version by no means would you ever think it was based on all the great flavor. After ONE visit I know this will be my new go to spot. Come here hungry and prepared for no self control. I walked in with the intention to get one and walked out with 1/2 dozen (I am sharing of course) You def won't regret stopping by and the staff is so friendly and helpful. The glazes are all done very well and super delicious, but for a place that only does yeast doughnuts I expected the dough to be lighter and fluffier. While the dough itself had a good chew, it simply wasn't airy enough for me to give it 5's. I did also find the doughnut itself to be a tad greasy. The first bite of the Maple Blueberry Pie reminded me of biting into a zeppole from the neighborhood fair; it' not bad, but just not great! Worst experience. The doughnuts are amazing but the service was by far the worst. I waited online for 25 mins with only 4 people a head of me. The cashier moved so slow, with no sense of urgency at all. I watched customers walk out. I spoke to the customer in front of me he seemed annoyed at the service and said this is not normal. I traveled from the Bronx just to eat these delicious doughnuts and was so angry that I was getting ready to leave.
