Large Piña colada donut and small guava lime donut
Kathleen S.

The donuts at Cloudy Donut were all stunningly displayed, tantalizing in their bright colors and variety. However, my husband and I were underwhelmed by the two we ordered--the guava lime and pina colada. The guava lime came with a thin slice of lime on top of the donut, but otherwise I didn't detect any lime flavor in the frosting itself. The pina colada was better, in part because it was enhanced by the coconut flakes and even sour pineapple on top. But both weren't worth the price. I can't say the yeasted donut parts were anything much better than a yeasted Dunkin Donut. Perhaps we should have ordered a sweet potato cinnamon bun instead.

I've heard of Cloudy Donut and finally decided to visit after a recent collab with another local bakery. Upon arriving I was surprised at the limited donut options and wondered if I had shown up on an off day or maybe they were still baking their goodies? (It was a Saturday morning) To me, it didn't seem as if they had a wide selection of doughnuts nor did I see any other pastries that I've seen pictured in other reviews. The donuts were delicately decorated, but quite mini. I didn't feel that the quality of the donut made up for its size. The establishment is spacious and clean, but they do not offer any indoor seating. However, there are a table or two outside.

Was walking around the area and had to stop by to check out these cute donuts. I got offered a sample donut to try out by the front desk person who was so sweet! I tried the Lemon poppy flavor and was sold on trying all other flavors lol. They're perfect bite sized pieces without being too sweet.

They may be known for their donuts, and offering 40 flavors of donuts at that, but their other baked goods also live up to the hype. In particular, the cinnamon rolls, which I didn't even know they had until I showed up one Saturday afternoon to find that they had sold out of donuts for the day. An employee could see how disappointed my friends and I looked and told us if we just waited a bit a fresh batch of cinnamon rolls would come fresh out of the oven, so we agreed to buy them. We're so glad we did. I'm an amateur baker, and am pretty proud of my at home cinnamon roll recipe-- these were good enough to make me avoid thinking "I could make these at home." It's hard to mess up fresh out of the oven cinnamon rolls though. I see a lot of reviewers noting how pricey these baked goods are--welcome to NY! You'll feel ripped off every time you step out the house. $8 per pastry is par for the course these days. I don't know if I'd wait hours in line for these, but if you can walk right up to the counter, as we did, they're definitely worth it.

Really lovely shop I ran into on a whim. The donuts are light and flavorful. Even got a free orange glazed donut to try out, such amazing service. Charming shop, will definitely pop in again when I'm in the neighborhood.

Whenever I am in New York, I absolutely have to stop at cloudy donut co. The location is beautiful. I usually grab the new flavors of vegan donuts and I walked down to a park nearby and eat. These donuts are absolutely delicious. When I tell you, I crave them as soon as I get out of JFK. I highly suggest you check out this donut shop. They have a couple locations in New York and I wish they had them in my state. Whenever I enter, the staff is really sweet and welcoming. It's a beautiful treat in the summer.

Sweet potatoe Cinnamon Bun rated 10 and I promise I haven't tasted one better.

Today I took a long trip along with my best friend to wonderful black owned vegan shop in Brooklyn. It was an amazing experience! We had the sweet potato cinnamon bun, which was like nothing I've ever tasted. The pistachio donut was top-tier, maple pecan was so savory with a hint of salt, these flavors were so robust. I tried the orange raspberry which was perfect together, the pineapple upside down cake and a blueberry black raspberry as well. Man, I recommend you to go and give this place a visit, you will not be disappointed.

I was drawn to this place after seeing photos online and the fact that they are all vegan. I made the trek to Brooklyn to check out the original location. A small place meant for takeout only as there is no seating inside. No restrooms. The inside is bright and fits the cloudy theme. I found out there is no menu listing of prices. This makes it really hard to decide what/how much to buy without awkwardly asking in the middle of a busy line. The donuts are mini in size and the cinnamon squares are average size. Apparently they have drip coffee too? Again, not listed anywhere on a menu but saw someone get a cup and found out they sell basic drip coffee from a steel canister. Who knows how much it costs? The mini donuts are $4.50 and the cinnamon square is a jaw dropping $10! I was surprised at checkout that I paid just over $15 for a mini donut and cinnamon square. As for the quality... the balsamic fig donut tasted sugary sweet but didn't catch any fig flavor. The cinnamon square tasted very doughy with a very light hint of cinnamon vs a fluffy soft consistency. Disappointing. Overall, while they look pretty they were not the best vegan donuts I've had. For how expensive they are and lacking in flavor, I don't think they are worth the trip. There are way better tasting larger vegan donuts at a better price point in NYC. Would be helpful if they posted prices.

Absolutely amazing vegan donuts! This place blew me away. They have a wide selection of donuts, all 100% vegan--but you'd never guess it based on the texture and taste. Everything was so rich, fresh, and flavorful. I also love that their offerings change with the seasons and are based on what's locally available. That kind of thoughtfulness really sets them apart. Seating available outside. It was my first time here, and the service was just as impressive as the donuts. The staff took their time walking me through the menu, explaining the different flavors and ingredients, and made the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. Can't wait to come back!

Not worth $11

Finally had a chance to circle back here since they opened in October 2022. FYI they only open on fri-sun and kind of out the way BUT I was in the neighborhood and wanted to visit on a Saturday. Love that they are black-owned and all donuts are vegan. I didn't love the price nor the flavor. Didn't add up to me. I ordered a mini donut (sugarberry) and a single donut in the flavor of blackberry mint mojito for a total of $11! HOW?! and why lol. My immediate thoughts. $4.50 for a mini donut and $6 for a single is a but much. As far as a size reference for the single donut, its similar to the size of a Dough donut. I'd probably go back to try their coffee but not pressed about the donuts unless I see a flavor that really entices me. They announce the flavors of the week on their IG and website. Definitely try it for yourself and see.

Very cute store, we popped in on a Saturday morning to try some of the donuts. Their flavors all looked really interesting. We got lemon vanilla bean, berry olive oil, and creme brulee. Our fave was the creme brulee, had a caramelized sugar top and cream on the inside. The other 2 tasted the same besides the decoration on top. They were good, fluffy donuts but we did not taste any flavoring in the donut/glaze besides the berry and lemon that were placed on top. The donuts are pretty pricy at almost $15 for 3 mini donuts. However, a good option if you only eat vegan.

What's left lol

Love love love the pecan cinnamon bun. It was just out the oven! I should have got 2. I always tried the red velvet and sweet potato also tasty Note the parking is hard to find. But the customer service was excellent. No issues repeating my order or any recommendations since it was my first time.

Cloudy Donut Co. is a Black-Owned Business in Brooklyn Heights. Founder Derrick Faulcon created this establishment that creates/makes/sells 100% Vegans Donuts - they are soy-free & no dairy or animal byproducts are used in their goods. Cloudy Donut Co. is a cute, quaint establishment that is next door to an ice cream shop and a couple of doors down from River Deli, which opens in the evening for dinner dining. Cloudy Donut Co. has 40+ donut flavors. My coworker purchased some donuts last week and shared them w/ myself and another coworker. All we could do is reiterate how great they were...sinply fresh and delicious. We walked together to visit Cloudy Donut Co. yesterday during our lunch break because we were craving these donuts-lol. When we walked in, we were gladly overwhelmed w/ all of the fabulous donuts' flavors / options, and I had a difficult time choosing which donuts to purchase. I finally decided to get a Pina-Colada Donut (infused w/ rum in this frosted baked good), a Pistachio Donut & a Balsamic Fig Donut. The othes got a Pina-Colada Donut, a Peanut Butter & Jelly Donut, and Cinnamon Roll Donuts. The donuts were so good! Cloudy Donut Co. also had Blueberry Donuts, Rosemary Lemonade Donuts Chai Donuts, Creme Brulee.Donuts, etc. We will definitely be back. Cloudy Donut Co. serves hot drip coffee as well as cold nitro brew coffee - they offer non-dairy & almond milk options for your coffee. Shop Operator Zewiditu Ruffin is a delightful, patient, courteous, gracious, down-to-earth, kind individual who provides fantastic customer service and wonderful energy. Great music plays in the background and adds to the cool ambiance. Cloudy Donut Co. has benches to sit on outside of the establishment, which will be nice to enjoy during the warm- weather months. Hours of Operation - Fri. -Sun. - 9am - 4pm. Website - cloudydonut.com Please check their menu every week as they post donut flavors that will be available/served for that specific week. Cloudy Donut Co. has this location in NY and a location in Baltimore. Once can pre-order if you are in NYC. One can also subscribe to their email list. The Boston cream had a rich, smooth filling with the perfect chocolate glaze, and the strawberry sprinkles donut was perfectly sweet and nostalgic. What makes this place special is that it's both affordable and consistently delicious! They have all the classic flavors but also some specialty donuts if you want to try something different. The old-school ambiance gives it a real Brooklyn charm, and it feels like stepping back in time. Just remember to bring cash because it's cash only; but it's absolutely worth it.

They were young, energetic, and a hard working bunch, Eastern European sounding . They are fierce in their added charges at the register- the likes of which I have never seen in the coffee shop/ donut world. First & Last visit. Too mich of a culture clash. How I was treated here would not fly or last One minute in North Shore Nassau -.But here in Brooklyn this is a bustling coffee & donut shop with all seats taken and a line for take out. Donuts & coffee both good - Good. Experience a no go. They were pre- occupied with added fees. it's all they mentioned with each donut picked. It went like this - "A dozen doughnuts please" and I began pointing at quite regular looking donuts (all in the same rows) or so I thought. " thats a dollar extra" ( boston creme) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( coconut creme) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( boston creme stick) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( french cruller white icing hm ok " thats a dollar extra" (french cruller chocolate icing) hm ok " Two small coffees also please " HM are those the small?? I kid you not they were TINY kid sized The cup size I have never seen before. They must special order them for samples or something. Ok so "They are wayyy too tiny so - medium please" Out came the typical small sized cup - Hmm so ok. Let's ring and go I'm thinking. Next the woman is struggling with a paper by the register trying to figure out the coat of this dozen donuts (plus five with her added $1's) - then more struggle and I said " it's a dozen plus $5" thats $29.50". "Oh no you don't have a dozen". Apparently the extra $5 disqualified my "dozen". I know what you're thinking but No- no special donuts from some other case - no coffee rolls etc - i'm a NY'er and know a donut from a special roll etc. You need to buy five more for a dozen. "Oh? No, I have a dozen and am paying you five up charges as you stated." Next thing she is ringing the donuts individually Plus the extra $5 Which makes NO sense. But gets her another added $5 or so. Why would they keep quoting me add ons to my dozen if no dozen existed once you added a Boston creme etc. She raced to the manager. The Brooklynites thought ne a mean old lady for saying you're overcharging me'. The manager flew over - a young man huffy and emphatic that the five very ordinary donuts that were $5 more converted my dozen to a different price per donut. Then they said something funny to me - "would you like me to take those out and give you regular donuts?". No. (See update for more) " No those are the ones I want " but you just over charged me - I'll take them. But you are overcharging me. Thank you. Holy mackerel - just glad to be on the way out WITH the donuts of course- I was not furious or anything- and the donuts were never at risk- I'd not walk out on the donuts - My advice is to be more transparent in pricing and not deem very basic donuts special donuts - making your customers feel ripped off.- Better just to charge more for the dozen. And.. like other shops put any supposed special donuts in a special donut area - like coffee rolls, big fritters etc. That's how it's Typically done. This is New York! You can't pull that here. This is a place where people pay $6 for a good cookie. They are not cheap. Don't be weird at the register. And those cups Come on - are you KIDding me - pun intended. I left holding on to my wallet a lot tighter. And that is not NYstyle. I felt like some war was on and was ready to start stacking change. I'm also half Italian! So for me - This was one weird cheapskate experience. So that's my review. --------------------Update - Follow up to reply ------------------------------- Hi Demetrios, Thank you for replying. I generally stay positive on reviews. Like I said it was the aggressive way I was treated that was the no go for me. What I left out of the review was worse! For instance - your counter person began reaching to open the box saying she was taking out donuts to replace them with others. She grabbed the box and actually began getting ready to fling donuts around. It was totally weird. Had she actually not stopped trying to untie when asked I would have not taken them. It weirded me out. You say you keep the business the same since 1993? Well where is the Jelly Stick? A New Yok classic. So much for keeping it the same. Its on the sign over the counter and you don't make them any more .. so It is Not the same as it once was. Got ya! jk. And no.. no no.. I am Never mean or rude... just willing to say something. Ok so the coffee.. if its really $1 I get it.. its a nice gesture to your customers... they had something like that in Montauk.. a tiny beer for $1 at a place called Liar's Saloon. So ok.... right on you. Update /3

The pancakes and mochi donut are must-gets, but my sleeper pick would be the simple yet refreshing snow pea shoots. Having just returned from Taiwan myself, I thought the soymilk tasted fresh and authentic, but the fan tuan was so-so (too dense and missing the pickles). I'd also pass on the chocolate bun, although if you like pain au chocolat, it tastes similar. I definitely need to come back for their red date cakes and peanut butter croissant (sold out when we arrived but they're regular menu items). Thankfully, there's a Win Son location in Manhattan as well so I won't need to travel to Brooklyn every time. Still, I'd make the trek out here again!
