I'm Not sure why we ended up having donuts so many times while In NYC this time around but I'm definitely not mad about it. Doughnut plant came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The guys at the counter were super friendly and gave some great recommendations. We came at a time when it wasn't particularly crowded so we enjoyed our treats inside at their don't shaped table tops. Side note - the milk is out of this world !

Lovely fast paced doughnut shop in the lower east side side by Seward park! Basically a neighborhood staple at this point. They always have an abundance of interesting flavors along with new flavors throughout the year. Nice & fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness. I had the hazelnut pistachio & the tiramisu doughnuts and they were both great and tasted exactly what they sounded like lol. Will definitely be back to try new flavors.

Stopped here during a food tour...and for a person who doesn't like sweets, I'm glad we did! I had a matcha latte and an iced latte (that the staff was happy to split for me and a friend to enjoy) while visiting and we got to try a few of their doughnuts. But the vanilla bean & jam doughnut completely changed my mind about a "jelly doughnut". It was the perfect balance for me. I didn't hesitate to text my husband that we have to come here on our next visit, so he can try it as well.

Chocolate toppings and innards for the Brooklyn donut. Delectable! $5.50 for a donut is steep but super good. Quick service. Friendly cashiers.

I am not a big doughnut person. I rarely eat them. But when I do, my preference is to grab a Coconut Cream yeast doughnut from this original location of DP. For a change up, I would do the Wild Blueberry cake doughnut instead. I also think the Summer Peach and Crème Brûlée are pretty good. Recently, my friends and I tried a few more flavors. Unfortunately, the Pistachio (cake) and Vanilla Bean (yeast) were not my thing. Black and White (cake) was interesting, but I prefer the chocolate side way more. Next time, I will try their Dark Chocolate.

We were walking the streets to another destination when we passed by Doughnut Plant. I was craving something sweet so we decided to pop in. I love that there was more than one gluten-free option in addition to the sourdough, cake, and yeast donuts. We opted to try a Marcona almond gluten-free cake donut and a strawberry sourdough per Brad's recommendation. Brad gave super detailed and thorough recommendations! Because the Marcona almond was the last in the pastry cabinet, he threw in a blueberry gluten-free stating that he "doesn't sell display donuts ". We appreciated the generosity! My favorite was actually the blueberry! All the flavors are house made and fresh (strawberries vs strawberry flavoring or syrups) and you could tell!

What caught my eye was the sign outside of Doughnut Plant that said Tres Leches cold brew. I love tres leches cake a lot and knowing Doughnut Plant has tres leches coffee got me hooked and made me fall in love with the place. I got a large size and it was semi sweet, not so sweet that I will be complaining about catching diabetes. I also got a strawberry shortcake and the icing was really good! It also got 3 slices of strawberry on the icing that were really fresh. I liked how it melt in my mouth. The doughnut was also good and not so crumbly that it made a huge mess. The place looked very cute with all the colorful doughnuts embedded on the cemented bench that went well with the doughnut tables. The bench was pretty tough to sit on since there weren't any cushions. All the decor were shaped of doughnuts. A small and quiet place that people come and go to enjoy doughnuts. These doughnuts are meant to be shared and recommended to not be consumed by one person. Their specialty donuts are very unique like the organic orange and tres leches that make me wanna go get more. Going to get those flavors next time I come.

I genuinely think this place has the best doughnuts in NYC. I originally discovered them through a food tour of the lower east side and immediately fell in love. I came back here a couple NY trips later and I already want to go back again. It's going to stay in the rotation for sure. They make the donuts fresh throughout the day. Their chocolate donuts are legit so good. Very rich! I also tried the carrot cake donut and it was heavenly. It was filled with cream cheese frosting and it was just so perfect. One of the freshest donuts I've ever had! And they have so many options to choose from. My friend has a dairy allergy and they had options for her which is great.

The donuts here were neither bad nor great on our 11:30 a.m. visit here. They were ... OK. I can't really talk about the ambiance of this joint, because it's as tight as an elephant in a suitcase. It's definitely clean. Service here is also quick and friendly. The donuts though? Eh. While the recipes seemed spot on, our donuts seemed as if they were made several hours earlier. All three donuts were hard at the base, which made them seem stale. Perhaps this place is five stars at seven in the morning, but the 11:30 version is not a repeat.

I can't believe this place is still at this location! I've been going here since my college days. I randomly passed it on a Saturday and of course had to stop in. The doughnuts are still so good. I was sad my favorite was sold out "crème brûlée" but the apple pie a la mode was really good, so fresh and delicious. Many flavors were sold out but I did also pop in late. Service was friendly and quick with space for my friends and I to consumer our donuts on a table. I wish there was a location on LI

Of all the artisan donut places in New York, I think donut plant might be my second favorite spot. They've got a nice array of donuts that they seem to change around seasonly as well as decor that seems to change seasonly also. On a recent visit to the Lower East Side Donut Plant, I reserved my snowman Donut and coffee cake donut as I had previously encountered issues with shortages on what I wanted due to the timing of when I had stopped by a particular donut. The coffee cake donut was tasty and very moist. I would recommend. The snowman donut to my surprise was not made with coconut as it was in the previous holiday season but with white chocolate. I then remembered that unlike other donut spots, Donut Plant changes up their donuts from time to time. The service was quick and friendly.

Not the best donut that I've ever had and they were quite price - my vanilla donut was $5. I think they're also known for coffee and other drinks so it may be more than just a donut shop

I am so glad that I stopped into this donut shop while walking through the lower east side because these doughnuts are amazing! I had their signature crème brûlée donut and their maple pancake and they were both light and delicious. They ARE on the smaller size but for me, it hit the spot. The shop was clean and smelled wonderful.

Ask the Community - Doughnut Plant

Do you guys have apple cider donuts?

We make Apple Cinnamon doughnuts, yeast and cake versions. A Doughnut Plant staple since the 1990s, using local apples from the GreenMarket and real cinnamon in the glaze

Can you order a dozen donuts and how much would it be?

Yes! Your can order locally on our website if you are within our delivery zone, or nationwide with Goldbelly.com. Price depends on what you order.

Do you carry the Matcha Donut at this LES Location?

Every Monday, at all of our NYC locations!

Are there sugar free or keto options?

I am not to sure !

Will the cream inside the crème brulee donut be okay sitting at Room Temp for 24 hours, or should it be refrigerated?

It has dairy, it should be refrigerated

Does anyone have the measurements of these donuts? Making a donut wall😘

Their yeast square donuts average 4-41/2 inches, their cake donuts round average 3-31/2 inches

Would a box of donuts last an 11 hour flight to Hawai'i?

Definitely. The cake donuts will last better, they are still moist the next day. I typically bring ziploc bags to help maintain the freshness longer.

I'm kinda a cake person... would you go as far to say this is better than cake?

Yes, go for the cake donuts and not the yeast donuts. Blueberry cake donut is by far the best!

Do you have any dairy free or lactose free doughnuts?

Yes! All of our doughnuts are vegetarian and eggless, and we have two vegan doughnuts: Chocolate Chocolate and Banana. (Gluten free is coming soon!)

Do they have the orange flavored/rose shaped ones at this location?

Yes! Rose, strawberry and blood orange ??

    Are there gluten free options?

We're working on gluten-free options currently and hope to have ready soon!

    Are there vegan options?

We currently have two vegan options -- Chocolate Chocolate and Banana. (And all of our doughnuts are eggless and vegetarian!)

There was a little bit of oiliness from the frying, but it did not taste off or too greasy. I think this is from the meticulous frying process and good management of the oil. I got the Cookies and Cream, Rose, Lavender, and Pistachios. I loved the Rose and Lavender flavors, especially the lavender which had a solid floral flavor without being perfume-y. Filled donuts are bursting at the seams with custard that tastes like egg yolks, cream, sugar, vanilla and little else. The orange cream cheese donut is generously frosted with, I'd guess, a mixture of cream cheese, marmalade, powdered sugar, and cream. Based on what we've tried, the donuts at Caroline's are old fashioned, unadulterated and excellent. I recently picked up four donuts for the fambly: the aforementioned orange cream cheese, creme brulee, Boston cream, and raspberry glaze donuts. This was in the afternoon around 4 p.m. and all of them were perfectly, wondrously fresh. The person at the counter (the male proprietor, I think) assured me in his charming French accent that they freshly fry donuts several times a day. Creme brulee was the fan favorite with the hard, crisp, sugar shell on top cracking delicately under a knife to reveal a loose, rich, custardy filling. But across the board, donuts were beautifully made (both aesthetic and delicious!), and well frosted / glazed / filled. The raspberry glaze by itself was a touch too sweet for our tastes, but applied with restraint so the overall effect was balanced. We are not in the donut market very often, but have had this place bookmarked ever since my esteemed Yelp colleague, Alan S., reviewed it last year. Now that we've tried these beauties, I think we're going to find many excuses to be back (e.g. for Hannukah sufganiyot, anything round for Lunar New Year, anything fried for Diwali, anything that can support a candle for birthdays, etc...).We really like this place and we suspect you will, too.

The Boston creme is truly made with love. It's sufficiently stuffed with creme and topped with a thick layer of chocolate ganache - the expensive stuff! The coffee donut is also delicious. Of everything I've tried, the strawberry filled was my favorite. You can tell their strawberry compote is homemade and not too sweet. The dough is light and fluffy and generously coated with granulated sugar. What a treat!
