My spouse and I spontaneously stopped into Dough, Rockefeller Center today. First of all, it's a lovely, unassuming little spot, which is a short walk from what some argue is NYC's heart. Having grown up in a church wherein a different person signed up to bring coffee and doughnuts every.single.Sunday of my young life, I think I almost developed an allergy to doughnuts! : ) I reasoned I could go for the rest of my life without another doughnut -- and truly be content. However, when we stopped into this place and eyed the delicious offerings behind the glass, I knew that I was suddenly in trouble! LOL Each one was so pretty and quite colorful! My slowly developed doughnut allergy quickly vanished. Not sure if this was a gift from the Holy Spirit, as we'd just walked over from Saint Bart's (another church), but something was shifting. Got a random craving for donuts and decided to pop in. So glad I did!! ~$20/3 donuts The donuts are more on the cakey side which I loved. It's very fluffy and moist. There's no overwhelming oiliness. They are also hugggggeee!!!!!! I didn't know what flavors to get and Rakeem was so helpful! He recommended the strawberry shortcake since it is a seasonal flavor as well as the glaze since I wanted to get my mom a donut that wasn't too sweet. This place is located in busy Rockefeller Center with no inside seating, so be prepared to have a place to sit down and enjoy them or take them home. The doughnuts are huge! And I mean HUGE! Very thick, heavy dough on the inside. The flavor options were fun and unique and you can tell they are house made, but I wasn't particularly a fan of the thick, dense dough. Although the service is not fast, there are only one maybe two employees working, it is insanely busy in a high traffic which ensures fresh donuts all day every day. I am so glad this place is next to the Nintendo store! What better pick me up during a day of shopping and sightseeing than doughnuts?! It's always nice to see a pastry shop that has such a variety of options for flavors AND has vegan options. The staff inside were very friendly and gave some recommendations on what to try! My husband and I decided to order two each: Cinnamon Sugar, Cafe au Lait, Strawberry Jam, and Dulce de Leche. My absolute favorite ended up being the Cafe au Lait, as I love anything that has some coffee flavoring to it! The strawberry jam was good too, although I wish the jam was more filled throughout the doughnut instead of towards the center and top layer. All of the doughnuts were surprisingly light and airy for their size, but that just made me feel less guilty for devouring both. I never thought Dough was that great. Not compared to the Doughnut Factory, which I recall stumbling across both on my forays thru Chelsea. Yet, I have given them at least 4 chances and each time the result is the same. The donuts are big in size and thereby striking. Because they're thick, they're filling. They're cakey in their consistency, with weak flavors that aren't present throughout the entire bite. They carry doughnut types that are unfilled, leaving the toping as the only vehicle for their flavor delivery, and the thin whisper of a glaze is just not enough. And that's it. You can try them but they'll leave you unsatisfied because they're not flavorful, no matter the size. As an aside, service and the workers have always been lovely! read more

We got a four dozen assortment, and we thought the doughtnuts were very dry, and nothing memorable at all. I know one was HIbiscus, one was nutella, and the other was dulce de leche, the last one I could not remember. I was surprised because I always try to go places where the reviews are solid. And their website pictures are so great looking. But, I could only take one bite of each and didn't need to taste any more. They ended up in the trash. It could be that we went later in the day, however that is not an excuse to have doughnuts that tasted like they could be a day or two old. I would not go again. We were walking down the street exploring the city when we crossed by this shop. Once it finally hit us what they were serving we doubled back and headed in for a donut! Since we found it randomly we didn't know what we wanted so we asked for a recommendation. They said that they became famous off of their hibiscus donut. So we had to try it! Plus being from California, we love us some hibiscus! The donut dough itself was great. It was a light and airy dough. Not greasy at all. I wonder if they bake them instead of fry.
