Vegan donuts... say whattt?! This is probably the first time I heard about vegan donuts so I had to give them a try. The location of the shop is awesome, it's right across from the L train station. Super hippy and rustic feel when you walk in. Since I came around 12PM, I feel like many flavors were gone. There was still a good variety for me to select from but nothing really popped out to me. I ordered 4 donuts: maple, chunky peanut butter, strawberry with sprinkles and one flavor that I can't seem to remember (it's a berry flavor frosting topped with crunch) These donuts were a lot softer than I expected! The flavor for each donut is not overly sweet, besides strawberry with sprinkles ... the frosting just taste like sugar with a hint of strawberry. I would never be able to guess that these are vegan donuts, they are just as amazing as non-vegan donuts. The flavors that I selected were all very good but none really wowed me. I wanted to love this coffee/bake shop but just don't . It's OK which is pretty typical. First off, I love their choices of doughnuts. Apparently they're all vegan which is great. They taste the same as regular doughnuts with fresh, natural ingredients. The downside to them is the fact that they're always served cold. I've been here twice and both times they were served to me cold. Not good. I also had a cappuccino before and it was fine. No complaints there. I guess the only upside to this bakery is that the doughnuts are vegan which can be hard to find. read more

They also had the best doughnuts in NYC though they don't advertise their vegan or plant based qualities to the hilt like some places so it would have never been obvious to me except for the recommendation from other vegans. I first visited Dun-Well Doughnuts roughly 4 years ago with some friends and have made it a staple of my trips to New York City ever since. This place is located on a Brooklyn side street and you can usually find a decent parking spot (Sunday I found one right out front). The inside is decorated with super cool art and has a vintage feel to it. They offer a variety of vegan donuts, beverages, and ice cream, although I've actually only ever gotten the donuts. I decided to go with the chocolate peanut butter and a vanilla frosted donut this time and both of them left me craving more. These are hands down the best vegan donuts (and honestly might be my favourite overall) I have ever had, they are absolutely delicious. Overall, you need to come to Dun-Well Doughnuts, vegan or not. My daughter convinced me to try it once and they were okay so we went back again today but this time she had an allergic reaction and being that she's allergic to peanuts, makes me wonder what's these doughnuts are made of. Dun-Well has become one of the defining neighborhood establishments around Montrose Ave. The service is super friendly, it always feels the customer is welcome and appreciated, and well, the doughnuts... they are superb. Really worth a try, and of course they are best early in the morning. If you're lucky enough to grab a warm one, still fresh from the oven, you are guaranteed a sublime taste adventure. Im not vegan, but the goodness of these toroid-shaped babies cannot be missed by any human with a well-functioning palate. My favorite vegan doughnuts!!! We are so lucky that vegan doughnuts are pretty mainstream and easy to find nowadays (in new york at least) and after trying Dunwell, my expectations are high. What I like is that they just make your classic yeast doughnuts which are big and fluffy. No need for crazy fancy flavors- just straight up chocolate sprinkle, strawberry, cinnamon sugar (and many more). The doughnuts speaks for itself! My favorites: peanut butter jelly (#1 WOW), strawberry and maple. The glaze is so good. This is the original store in Brooklyn which is bigger than the one in the East village. This one has a sit down area so you can enjoy your doughnuts in store as well. And of course along with doughnuts, they also have coffee! I haven't tried any drinks yet but I'm really looking forward to it. If you want a classic fried doughnut, try Dunwell. You will not be disappointed. I do like other stores than have baked/ gluten free ones too but those taste more like cake/ mufifns. Dunwell is the real deal! read more

I love this place! The doughnuts are incredible, especially since they're all vegan. Maple flavored is my personal favorite, however, they're all really good and you would hardly be able to tell the difference between these and regular doughnuts. That's my favorite part about them. One of my friends who is vegan has been dying to try out the vegan donuts here. As a party of four, we each got a donut to share. The donuts here are priced at $2.25-$3.00. We got: 1. Blueberry Almond Not sure what type of sugar is used, but it was hella sweet. I could barely taste the blueberry, and the texture of the dough was sort of grainy. 2. Chocolate Almond I'm a huge chocoholic, and this also tasted too sweet. The sweetness was overpowering, further fueling my disappointment and dislike for any of the donuts here. 3. Chunky Monkey Chunky Monkey to the rescue..! This wasn't as sweet as the first two that I tried, but still on the sweet side. Not bad. 4. PB & J You can't go wrong with PB & J. Neither can you fuck up a PB & J. You just can't. This one was my favorite. The jelly was rich, and there was just the right amount of creamy peanut butter that it didn't stick to the roof of my mouth nor teeth. Cute, but I wasn't impressed. When I walked in here, I was expecting something as good as that of Dough Doughnuts. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I would not come all the way out here again. read more

I also had hot chocolate which was the best part of the experience. They don't have a bathroom so you have to fend for yourself. I'd like to try more donuts and hopefully have more to say about them. It is very very soft and warm depending on whether they just came out. It wasn't too sweet nor too dry. It was just enough deliciousness all in one bite. One of the donuts I got were in the display case, it was the last strawberry since they didn't reach for any freshly baked ones. I can't imagine how long those donuts might've been there for probably an hour or so?, but if they came out so soft; can you imagine a freshly baked batch that just came out? No guilt and absolutely no regrets here!
