It's cash only and it's kind of a scrappy experience but the food is wonderful and has been consistently this way for as long as I can remember. #16 and #34 are my favourite! The beef brisket noodle soup is also great but between two people, two dishes are a perfect portion.
If you're in Chinatown then you must come here and try the food. The house special noodles was the bomb and definitely enjoyed the dumplings. Will definitely have to come back to try the rest of the menu.
Three choices of steamed dumplings (pork & chinese cabbage dumplings, pork chive & shrimp dumplings, lamb meat dumplings) - served all together on one plate and they all looked the same so I was unable to visually differentiate which is which, was only able to tell which ones had shrimp. wrapper is a on the thicker side and meat filling were all very lean with a semi crumbly texture, there was no fatty bits which made the dumplings less juicy. Three choices of pan fried dumplings (fried shrimp & pork dumpling, fried pork & chive dumpling, fried lamb dumpling) - also was unable to differentiate which from which. I preferred these because of the crispy dumpling skirt - greasy but added a crunchy savory texture to the dish. wrapper for these were perfect for me but the meat filling again were all very lean with a semi crumbly texture. My party of 5 came in for dinner at 7:30PM on a Thursday and was seated right away without any wait; not that busy. Shop is a bit cramp for large parties as majority of the table setups seated parties of 2-3. Service was quick (we waited about 5 minutes for the dumplings) but could be friendlier: the waitress told my sister to "get up" and move to the other side of our table to free up a chair for other incoming customers - just thought that she could have worded it nicer :'). Note for US tourists: since this is a cash only shop, kindly remind the cashier that you would like the total price in USD because they will automatically give you the price in CAD. It was our first destination at our first time visiting Canada so we didn't know - we paid $41for only two orders of dumplings and were so surprised that some of the reviews said this place was cheap.
Tried the steamed Pork, Shrimp and Chive dumplings today and was mildly impressed. I usually like steamed dumplings, but these dumplings--albeit that there were 15 of them--tasted pretty bland. I usually have a generous palette and don't complain often (especially when hungry), but this batch of dumplings was only good enough for me to try once. The service was lacklustre and only came up to my table once to serve the food. After that, I pretty much was left on my own. The cool thing is that you can watch the workers making the dumplings from the sidewalk outside through the window. I thought that was definitely something unique and was enough for me to curiously draw my interest to try the dumplings out. The ambiance was nothing special--seating enough for 4 at each table but they can accommodate larger groups by pushing tables together. This place ONLY takes cash, so make sure to have some handy (they also have an ATM to withdraw).
Greasy-spoon type of place which serves quick, affordable and delicious dumplings. We were walking in Dundas & Spadina area doing restaurant hopping for good dumplings. I have known this place for a long time - and recently I am kind of into the world of pan-fried dumplings, trying different well-reputed places for comparison and appreciation of each experience. We ordered pan fried dumplings #25 : 3 flavor choices $17.99. We chose: - Pork & Chive - Pork & Shrimp - Vegetable (spinach & mushroom) Food came in 10 mins. The dumplings were delicious. Crispy wings and thin wrapper with good texture and wheat-y flavor. My favorite was pork & chive. Super juicy, perfect seasoning. Juice splashes as you bite, be careful! Next time I want to try their steamed dumplings :)
I was promptly seated on a very busy hour. The place was packed. As one walks in, the dumplings are being done by the door. The Steamed dumplings comes as 15. The Fried as 12. I ordered the Fried Pork & Shrimp dumplings, and the 10 ingredients Fried Rice. The Fried Rice came first. It had too much sauce for my taste(brown color) it was good. Then a bit later came the dumplings. I was looking at how they are cooked. It was very pretty, and delicious. A big pot of hot tea to wash everything down. Satisfying lunch. They only accept cash. ATM on premises.
Visited here based upon a recommendation by a local. Dumpling was in the name so you know they are something special and they didn't disappoint. Got my order to go and was able to watch my dumplings being made in the stores front window. Cash only business but they do have an ATM inside. Dumplings were great and service was fast
We hadn't ventured to Chinatown in a while (thank you babies!) but grandma encouraged us to go for lunch and I mean, when there's time for dumplings, who says no to dumplings?!? So we giddily went to Dumpling House and were a little stunned at the price increase. I get it - inflation, increased wages, rent, etc etc it was just a bit of a sticker shock for us. Alas, it is what it is and we wanted some yummy dumplings. I loooove the pan fried dumplings, esp when it has a skirt like the one below. I was pretty disappointed after my first bite. Mind you, we eat pretty bland at home (fear of too much salt!) so my palate is used to it but this was beyond my weak seasoning skills. It could have used a healthy doooop of soya sauce or salt. We also ordered some boiled dumplings and they weren't much better. We weren't full but we were going to some hopping - in the end, we paid $1+ per dumpling and it wasn't even yummy or satisfying we're hoping this was just a bad batch but it may be a while for us to be able to return.
This place offers up a variety of dumplings. Unfortunately, you can't mix steamed & fried dumplings, but you can get a mixture within each category. Got fried dumplings with chicken, lamb, shrimp & pork. The dumplings were good, with a crispy skirt. The skin could be thinner though.
Came here with a group of 4 for the first time on New Year's Day. They have an open kitchen at the front of the restaurant where the head chef of 10+ years is cooking. Before being seated, the staff remind you that it is cash only. We ordered a cold dish app of cucumbers which was mildly marinated, so we learned to let it sit for a few minutes before digging in. The dumplings were all delicious - the layer of crispy skin on the top of the pan fried dumplings is DELICIOUS. The boiled dumplings are chewy which I liked. Would come again with friends and family. Note: the bathroom is unwelcoming/not clean.
Food was just average. - Green Onion Pancake: The menu item name in Chinese 蔥油大餅 is misleading. 大餅 is supposed to be a thick flatbread, but this one was thin and crispy. It tasted fine, but it wasn't worth the price. - Shanghai Stir-fried Noodles: My Shanghainese mother said that they made this dish sweeter than it's supposed to be and that the noodles are a lot softer and shorter. It was a decent stir-fried noodle dish, but compared to what a Shanghai stir-fried noodle dish should be, it wasn't quite there (basically, not really authentic Shanghainese). - Dumplings: Both the steamed and pan-fried dumplings were fine. They tasted like average good dumplings. The skins weren't too thin or too thick, and there was just the right amount of filling. For the pork, chives, shrimp dumplings specifically, it was good that each dumpling had one whole shrimp. Cash only, and if you only have US dollars, they take that too much they won't do any conversion (it'll just be 1:1).
We were just walking in Chinatown when we came across this restaurant and my husband just said, we have to try! And being a hungry hippo, I just said yes. My family are just a sucker for food. Food/taste/price - Omg! This is definitely yummy. In Chicago, we had one dumpling restaurant but the price is just $$$$$. This place is definitely way less than Chicago. The taste is not disappointing too. They're not cheap with the filling. We will definitely go back here if we're in Canada.
Really great pork and chive dumplings, super juicy. Fast and friendly service cute little restaurant.

Dumpling house is one of the remaining options left still standing in Chinatown, and one that I've been to over the years. Despite its name, they also offer a lot of other chinese dishes. The restaurant isn't particularly clean. The condiments are sticky or oily, possibly from people using their hands to grab dumplings and then go and pour more soy sauce or vinegar. They do wipe off the bottles, but probably only when it needs to be refilled. The tables don't feel particularly clean either; I wouldn't put my stuff on there. Dumplings are made fresh. You can see some if the staff at the very front of the restaurant putting dumplings together, sometimes walking back and forth with huge bowls of minced meat or vegetables. You can get a plate of 15 boiled dumplings or 12 panfried dumplings for $8.99. The prices have steadily gone up everytime I come, and at this price I'd look at other options on the menu as their rice or noodle dishes are quite large in portion, and also cost about the same. Dumplings take time to cook, so expect up to 10 minutes depending in how busy the restaurant is and what kind of dumpling you're getting. The boiled dumplings taste great. They come with a good skin-to-filling ratio. The fried dumplings are not as big as I would like, but the flavor is there as well. If the prices hit $10 a plate I won't be coming here for dumplings. read more

It delivers on its name? lol If you're craving freshly made dumplings, this is your standard Chinese dumpling restaurant. It's a tiny space in Chinatown, which looks a bit more run down nowadays, but this place hasn't changed a bit. It still has the bright red tables. Well .. some things have changed. The prices are higher now, ~$10 for 15 steamed dumplings or for 12 pan fried dumplings. There's a variety of meats/vegetables to choose from. They speak (broken) English, since they're a lot of locals and tourists. Service was meh. It's quite busy, they're in a rush to get you in and out. read more
Just wondering, should we measure authenticity in proportion to how the customer is treated? This place must be somewhere in the middle because no one had enough patience for us, but actually when we gave smiles we received a little smile back. I haven't talked yet about authenticity of food. I've been in Asian restaurants in the Toronto area where they treated us like intruders, but not this one. We needed some time to choose our food and we actually took it. Come on! We know time is money, but we really wanted to see what they actually offer. Our group had five people. They seated us at the table next to the wall and for sure, never again. It just doesn't work. It was too little space for five serving plates with the food we ordered, plus we wanted to share everything and it was just a mess. It was actually my second visit here and the first time I wished they gave us a table not in the middle of the restaurant but next to the wall. Yeah, I wanted to be romantic. I think it is all about please come, order, eat and go. Faster better. Anyway... Food was great! We enjoyed every bit of it. We had two kinds of dumplings, fried pork and chive and steamed spinach and black mushrooms. We agreed our steamed choice was poor because it tasted bland and we actually didn't see any mushrooms in it. But you know what to do, dip it into some sauce you created and voila! Delicious! We also ordered Ma-Po's Tofu, Black Bean Beef and pork dish, not sure right now which one it was, but everything was very good. Beef was very tender, tofu in sauce extremely satisfying and pork also was nicely spiced and tasted just right. Definitely will go back to have more dumplings and some of great looking noodles. read more
You definitely come here for the dumplings and not the service. In typical Chinese fashion, the customer service here is nearly nonexistent. As we walked in, a waitress barked "cash only". Half way through our meal we were asked "any more?" and before we had a moment to discuss, we were given the bill. Finally, before we actually finished our food, a waitress started clearing our table. However, with that said, their dumplings are definitely their redeeming quality. They are handmade and fresh, from the wrappers to the fillings. They also offer a good variety; they have chicken, beef, pork, lamb, shrimp, and vegetarian dumplings. It is also a fairly cheap eat and it is easy to share. If you are willing to put up with poor customer service for good food, this is a decent option. read more
CASH only. There's a bunch of banks/ATMS around the area so you're good just in case. Service is less to be desired but the dumplings were pretty solid. If it's your first time, I recommend trying 3 different flavours first for $12-13 (additional $2) instead of committing 12 dumplings to one flavour. They've got steamed and pan-fried. We really like the pork and shrimp - the only juicy and flavourful dumpling. The classic pork and chive were quite dry and the spinach needed salt to save its integrity. Tried their beef noodles and was super garlicky and the noodles were broken up which was annoying to eat. Overall, will I be back, probably not - considering there are so many other dumpling spots in the area that will probably have better dumplings and better service. read more
My favourite kind of house music is "Dumpling House." It's like, normal house music, but it sounds like you're trapped in a hot dumpling covered in shiny dumpling goo. It's quite sexy and liberating. Very big in Japan but then isn't everything. I'm also quite big in Japan, comparatively speaking, which is why I like going there. But this review is about China. Well, Toronto. But amazing Chinese food in Toronto. So let's get on with it. What to get: Pan Fried Pork And Chive Dumplings Why: Because like the Bee Gees, you'll love Chive Talking "Dumplings" is not just a nickname for people who have just been dumped. Nope. It's also one of the most famous and delicious culinary exports of China. Having a dumpling in your palm is like having China in your hand. And then like that other thing you often hold in your palm, you squeeze it and it shoots goo all over your wrist, and there's a million dead dumplings all over you. Tragic. But anyway. Dumpling House restaurant. I've been here 3 times now. The first two occasions, they were probably the best fried soup dumplings I've ever tasted, and definitely done very differently to anywhere else I've tried them. This most recent time, they were very good, but not "the best ever", which I think might reflect how many good dumplings I've now tried all over the place. And yet I really can't think of a place where I like the dumplings better, or as much, as these fried piping-hot pockets of juicy greasy goodness, and so I will say - for now - that Dumpling House has the best dumplings I've ever had, to date. And better than the "best places in NYC", all of which I've tried. One rival to the throne is nearby - around the corner at the much-less-busy Yummy Yummy Dumplings, they make some really good ones too. Try both! The experience is worth the incredibly cheap price of dumplings by itself. You get ushered into tiny communal tables where you have absolutely no room to eat or talk or move or play with yourself under the table (what, don't tell me I'm the only one who does this at dinner) (well then you must not go to dinner with the people I go to dinner with). Service is brisk, but nice, much as with your Auntie. They get you in and out quickly, much like me, if you visit my bedroom on a Friday night (ooh speaking of which it's Friday. Better get ready. Starlight, help me clean up and I'll give you Temptations). So you need to get the Pan-Fried Pork-And-Chive dumplings. The most important element is the pan-fried part, because that's what this place specializes in. They come out looking like some sort of a pancake, with crispy brown fried bits connecting all of the dumplings together. But don't fear. These are, indeed dumplings, Jim. Just not as we know them. Still one of the best places to eat in Toronto, and one of the reasons I come up here often (do you come here often?) along with the Creme Brulee donut at Von Doughnuts, the scoops at Ed's, the Loukamades from Athens Pastries, the Banh Mi Boys, the custard fish at Kevin's Taiyyaki, and a few other gems around the city. Anyway, skip your kids' fave place (Munchkin House), the gym (Pumping House), the other gym you pay for but never go to (Dumbbell House), the place that sells kids books (Rumplestiltskin House), the hospital where you always get sick (Mumps House), and the brothel (Humping House), and come here instead. There is no better place to get piping hot goo sprayed right down your throat from the merest of nibbles. read more
Literally one of my favorite places we ate in Toronto! We stumbled upon this place in Chinatown and were not disappointed! The restaurant itself is small but they employees work quick to get food out fast! As you walk in, you can see the dumplings being made in the window and fried/steamed right there! The price was reasonable, the portions were huge, and the food was delicious! For two of us we definitely over ordered but could not decide what to eat and just got a bit of everything! We ordered the fried pork dumplings, chicken fried noodles, and green onion pan cake! My favorite was the dumplings but you are at the House of Dumplings! Everything else was fantastic...we had to stop ourselves from licking the plates clean! If in the area and visiting Chinatown, definitely check it out!! read more
Life just isn't the same after you have been to dumpling house. I mean- it wasn't until this very moment that I realized my town has no dumpling game whatsoever..... So , before going, it is important to note that this is a CASH ONLY establishment so make sure you got some paper on you. The food here is fantastic. So - my insights.... I wish I hadn't been so "safe" with my ordering. I wish that instead of ordering the fried dumplings, which were delicious by the way, I wish I had ordered more of the steamed dumplings. The were Uber authentico and seemed to have their own plump juiciness, with very clearly pronounced flavors. The little guys were amazing. My recommendation is to try the pork and chive- very very good! As far as being a great place for groups or kids, this place is a hole in the wall type of joint- the whole place is close quarters- but worth it. The very moment you walk in, it is through an open kitchen with ladies at the window hand stuffing dumplings- it's pretty sweet. read more
This place is packed with tables and people! We wanted to try both parties so we got a portion of pan fried dumplings and steamed dumplings (both with pork I believe). I enjoyed the pan fried dumping more, the coating that stuck the dumplings together reminded me of chips while my company preferred the steamed dumplings more. Along with that, we got the green onion pancake, a first for me. I found it not that bad but it was really oily. It would be better if they drained it a bit before serving it. It's a great place to try some authentic dumplings as you see people making them from the window outside. read more

I had been to this restaurant before the pandemic and loved the entire experience! Post-pandemic, the experience is pretty similar but not quite as lively. The dumplings are hot full of flavor, and still juicy on the inside. The drawback is it's cash only, and there isn't any AC that you can noticeably feel; this is great in the winter but makes it sweltering in the summer. The dumplings are inexpensive and come out pretty quickly! read more

If you're ever in a mood for dumplings and hot and sour soup, take a stroll down Chinatown and make your way to this hole in the wall restaurant and prepare for some delicious dumplings and more! We started off with the hot and sour soup and a spicy potato dish to entice our appetite and clear my sinuses since I was a little sick. The hot and sour soup was one of the better soups I've had over the years and the spicy potato dish wasn't too spicy but an appetizer to share amongst the table. After a little wait the two dishes of pan friend dumplings came and let me tell you, I've never been this excited to see dumplings until now. They were crunchy, juicy from the pork inside and coated with a little bit of oil on the outside which added a nice flavour coating to the dumplings. All in all I would definitely come here again on a rainy day and suggest this restaurant to all of my friends! 5/5 stars for the food and the staff were very nice to me and my girlfriend as well. No issues anywhere! read more

I'm a big fan of their Fried Pork & Chive Dumplings. The skin is so delicate and has a nice chew. The filling is juicy and packed with flavor. I love the light crunch on the bottom of each dumpling. They are seasoned perfectly and not overly oily. These dumplings are so light and easy to eat. We really enjoyed the Spicy Seaweed, Hot & Sour Soup and Steamed Pork & Chinese Cabbage Dumplings. We appreciate the generous serving sizes and reasonable prices. The dishes we ordered were very flavorful. We were also happy that the Hot & Sour Soup wasn't packed with corn starch. The broth was light, aromatic and had a depth of flavor. The skin in the Steamed Pork Dumpling dish was light and smooth. Very easy to eat. Service needs great improvement. Once we were seated it took quite awhile for our server to take our order and bring out tea. When the server brought over our dishes, everything came out at the same time except for the Fried Pork & Chive Dumplings. When we reminded our server about that dish, it arrived to our table once we were finished with the rest of our meal. We believe they forgot to write that dish down. The employees told us the Fried Dumplings take longer to prepare but the table next to us received their Fried Dumplings before any of their other dishes came out. Restrooms are available downstairs. Seating is tight. Though service needs much improvement, the food has won me over. read more

I think I am spoiled by all these dumpling places uptown in Scarborough... Dumpling House Restaurant is really not up to the standard when compare to them.. Steamed Dumplings?? If it is supposed to be steamed why were they boiled?? (-0.5 star) The reason I love my dumpling steamed because this cooking method preserved all the taste inside the dumplings and when you bite into one, the soup inside just exposed and your mouth will be filled with flavours! The pan fried ones were dripped with oil... my chopsticks were all slippery... Green Onion pancakes ($3.99) just tasted bland, oily and lack any green onion taste.. just doughy and oily!! Price wise, it is more expensive than the dumpling places uptown, but I do understand that rent and operating cost is more downtown.. but at least work on making the dumplings better.. The owner was really nice and accommodating.. but I don't think I will be back here for dumplings! read more

Green onion pancake was bland. Shanghai noodles were really sweet - not great, IMO. However, the pan fried pork and chive dumpling was WOW. They make them different than the other places.. I think they add some sort of gluten mix to make the bottoms like that (see photo). They will rush you out the door when it gets busy. Also, CASH ONLY!!! I would give a 3, but the panfried dumplings really impressed me. read more
Had a day to spend in Toronto and had heard many good things about Chinatown so off I went. I was in the mood for dumplings and found the reviews to be good. Was seated quickly and it was time to eat. I ordered the pork steamed dumplings and Shanghai noodles and they were good. I knew that the dumplings were going to be good when I saw them making them in the front window. This is a cool little restaurant that is a bit of a hole in the wall but has great food. Service here was good and the food came out in a timely manner. The noodles came out first and was surprised but then realized they are making the dumplings fresh in the window. Good flavor in the noodles with lots of meat. The dumplings came out and I was surprised with the number in the order. All in all food was good, service was on par and it was a good experience. One word of warning is that they only take cash. read more

YES YES YES I say YES to Dumpling House. This as Chinese and as Dumpling as it gets, authentic stuff. Huge selection and something for all, but we kept it 100 and got the Pork and Chives fried dumplings and Pork and Chinese cabbage steamed dumplings. Left very happy and satisfied. read more
We had a late light dinner at Dumpling House Restaurant. We were still full from our BBQ lunch so we simply came here to try out their namesake dumplings. It's a no frills Chinese restaurant so don't be offended if you feel like the servers are trying to rush you to place an order the minute you sit down (which is what happened with us -- the server came around at least two times to try to put our orders in, but we were still trying to decide what to order). It was very packed with patrons even though it was just already almost 10 p.m. when we entered the restaurant. We didn't have to wait for a table and got seated immediately. We walked past the front kitchen area where there were a couple of ladies making fresh dumplings. All of their dumpling orders seem to be freshly made to order. We simply ordered two plates of dumplings to share. We ordered the Pork & Chinese Cabbage Steamed Dumplings while S & S chose the Pork & Chive Steamed Dumplings. Both steamed dumplings look the same (but you can see a slight hint of the green chives for the Pork & Chive one), but the taste was definitely different for each one. The Pork & Chives one had a more obvious taste due to the chives. I liked the Pork & Chinese Cabbage one slightly more but both were just as delicious. I liked how the steamed dumplings were full of stuffing and yet the dumpling skin was still smooth. Most importantly, the dumpling skin wasn't too thick or starchy. Dumpling House Restaurant also serves Pan Fried Dumplings too. In addition, they have noodles, side dishes, rice, soups, and a lot more. Their menu is very extensive! read more

I LOVE this place. My cousin suggested this location after my family and I helped her move into her new condo downtown... so afterwards we all went to Chinatown to try out this place. When we walked in, there was already a line up! luckily they had a big table open at the back for the 5 of us, so we happily sat down and started to look at the choices. they have tons of options for dumplings... but of course being a dumpling house, some of their other shanghai dishes are pretty good too. We ordered their shanghai noodles (starry) and their soup noodles with braised beef. For dumplings we ordered both the steamed and the panfried dumplings with a variety of filling flavours. they actually have an option where you can make one order with 3 flavours so you get a few pieces of each flavour within that order. Shanghai noodles 上海粗炒: the dish size was quite large and there was a lot of food for one plate! But i LOVE the noodles. I"ve had my fair share of shanghai noodles, and i must say this was probably one of the best ones I've ever had. Their noodles don't taste like manufacturer's... I actually wonder if it was made in house - it had a nice spring to it, kinda like the equivalent of al dente pasta. I love the texture of the noodles, the sauce was very good. not overwhelming but quite tasty, along with the other ingredients of the dish, everything just worked really well together. panfried dumplings 鍋貼: the way they served them reminded me of the fried dumplings I ordered in Ding Tai Fung when i was in Taiwan. They serve it upside down and you break the 'crispy skin' that attaches them all together and the result is an amazing pan fried dumpling that isn't stuck to the plate! it also doesn't end up in oil pooling at the bottom because they served it this way. The pork and veg, the beef were both great. the shrimp was kind of milder tasting for those who don't like such intense and salty/savoury filings that would be great for them. steamed dumplings 蒸餃子: These were classic, great overall. the skin is nice and soft, i love the juices are kept inside the dumpling until you bite into them :) again the shrimp one was kind of bland compared to the others, which my fiancé loved because he doesn't care for too salty fillings. But I personally liked the pork ones with bok choy or with chives. the chives edges out because i find it's more fragrant than the bok choy. Braised beef soup noodles 紅燒牛肉麵: Now these are done just the same as the stir-fried so perhaps they are made in house. the broth wasn't too salty, which was nice. The beef was cooked well and the flavour was quite good, but maybe because this came after the stirfry it felt a bit more bland likely because of the soup broth. but overall this is a great dish for those that like 紅燒牛肉麵 . All in all, I was very surprised by how good the food was at this place. The dumplings are made fresh in-house, which you can see by the window at the front entrance of the restaurant. Its a small place, quite cosy and you can't sit there for very long because it's so busy. But, the portions are quite generous and the price isn't that expensive either. If you want good chinese food in Chinatown for a reasonable price and don't mind the wait? This is it :) read more

This dumpling joint shares territory with 1088 other food establishments on the block but it is instantly recognizable due to it's giant red sign and the 2-3 shawtys that stand by the window making dumplings all day, errrrrday. It was packed on a Saturday evening with a line outside the door shortly after 5pm. Ordered the famous pan fried dumplings and Zhejiang noodles. I've been told that the pan fried dumplings is their signature item on the menu and boy did it not disappoint. Almost every table had ordered dumplings. Noodles were a recommendation and there was SO much sodium I almost drank a liter of water by the time I finished my meal. Will definitely return for dumplings. FYI, the place is a bit cramped when there's a full house. But it's cool to watch the staff cook at the front of the restaurant. Gives a very Asian food stall vibe. Ya know what I'm saying? read more

This place was recommended to me by one of my friends who is a native torontonian. I ordered doordash pickup and got the fried veggie dumplings. Omg they are so good! Friendly and fast service and the dumplings had the right amount of filling and crunch. I'll definitely be back :) read more
I'd order the steamed dumplings here again. But not the fried ones. The fried ones are way too oily, and feel like they have less filling. The dumpling wrapper is a bit thick, but they have pretty unique fillings here. My faves so far are: Pork and fennel (it actually tastes like dill to me) Pork and shrimp (they put whole shrimps in) Lamb (very lamby) Chive, egg and shrimp one is good too. Spinach and mushroom is pretty regular. read more

This dumpling place is definitely a must try! Located straight in the downtown Toronto Chinatown, it truly is a gem that you were glad that you found! The restaurant is cash only and allows you too see the dumplings being made fresh! The staff was friendly, and the ambiance was decent (classic chinese restaurant). We got 3 dumpling plates (total of around 42 dumplings, 2 plates boiled and 1 fried). The fried dumplings are crispy and very flavourful but there wasnt much filling. I would say that the boiled dumplings are a must get as they are plump, juicy, and bursting with flavour!! Dipping them in a chinese vinegar and soy sauce mix definitely elevates the taste level. I would definitely recommend everyone to try this place out, especially the steamed (actually boiled) dumplings. Don't forget to bring cash, Bon appetite! Note: Pictures below are the pork and chive and pork and shrimp boiled dumplings. read more

This is my second time trying dumpling house, and it's just as good as I remember! When you walk in, everything is very red! Typical Chinese decorum and you can see the dumplings made fresh out in the open as you are seated to your table. Each plate can have up to 15 dumplings ! We chose two boiled dishes : pork and chive, and pork and shrimp as well as a panfried beef dumpling. The skin of the dumpling was not too doughey, and the broth was bursting with umami. I thought the panfried could be a bit more crispier though. You can also choose to have three different types of dumpling in one dish, I recommend to do that to increase variety! We didn't have to wait very long for the dumplings, we barely had time to finish the plate and another came out! You have the option of soy sauce, vinegar, sweet and sour sauce, hot chili sauce, and pepper and salt, but the best pairing is definitely vinegar and soy sauce! Definitely try out dumpling house when you're around Chinatown! Dumplings won't let you down, but remember to bring cash! read more
My go-to place for dumplings in Toronto. In my opinion, they have the best dumplings in town. I've tried Mother's Dumplings, Dumpling King and Northern Dumpling Kitchen but I always end up going back to Dumpling House. Unfortunately, I no longer live in Toronto so I try to get my fix every time i'm back in town, My favorite are the pan-fried ones. Greasy but oh so good. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Like others have mentioned, my go-to are the pork and chive stuffed dumplings. The pan-fried textural aspect set them apart from others. The boiled ones are very good too. The flavors are more subtle and the stuffing ingredients can really be appreciated. Make sure you eat them while they're still hot though, since the wrapping can quickly become hard and doughy. Sticking with dumplings is the best idea. I find their noodle dishes to be on the sweeter side and geared towards more "Westernized" tastes. However, they also have some quality non-dumpling dishes such as the cucumber & garlic salad, marinated jellyfish salad and their fish-fragrant eggplant dish. read more
The dumpling festivities continue but this time in Toronto. We were beside Dumpling House after our foot massage so it would have been irresponsible not to stop in for a few bites. Love how you can see the dumplings being made fresh from outside the window. There's three of them working like little bees non-stop. While we waited for a table inside, we got to watch the open kitchen do their thing. It's small, cramped but they make it work. The wait was only about 10 minutes. - Green onion pancake (#50) ($4.99) - simple but delicious. Sometimes simple and fresh is best although the pancake was pretty greasy. - Wonton soup (#87) ($5.99) - broth was excellent and the wontons were even better. Small but packed full of flavour. - Lamb meat dumplings (#8) ($8.59) - you get 15 steamed dumplings. Lamb dumplings are my favourite and these were absolutely money. The filling tasted gamey, just the way I like 'em. None of this subdued lamb flavour garbage. - Fried pork & chive dumplings (#17) ($7.99) - 12 pan fried dumplings. We went with the standard pork and chive dumplings which hit the spot. Everything at the Dumpling House was freshly made, fast, tasty and cheap. Not sure what else you'd want but we were satisfied. read more
This was just what I needed the other night. It was freezing, I was starving, and they were open later than almost everyone else with decent reviews. Cash only like most Chinatown places, but oh well. It's very reasonably priced and you can easily spend very little and eat a ton. I got an egg drop soup, thinking that it was $5 for a small, single-portion cup for myself. I ended up with a huge bowl that was definitely meant for 4+. It was slightly bland, but with a bit of soy sauce was really good. It just needs some fresh scallions and that's it! My buddy and I both got pan-fried dumplings; he got shrimp and pork, I got pork and chives. They were both pretty good (I've never seen dumplings fried or served like that). Very good late-night drunk food, but maybe not so great for your health--the grease was literally dripping from the dumplings and pooling onto the plate. Eeeek! Next time I get them steamed! read more
Decided to checkout this place a Sunday while strolling Toronto for the art weekend, the line was out the door and it wasn't a spacious restaurant for the waiting area at all! We encountered an old lady who seemed to be owner, yapping around to the customers dining in and asking to leave tip. I have seen this kind of behaviors in Chicago Chinatown but come on, this is just too demanding. Talk about customer service, eh? We ordered the infamous shrimp and pork fried dumplings, which we were in the line for at least 30 mins and finally got the food after an hour and thirty mins! I told my husband that this food better be worth it and good!!! We went back the next day since we were meeting some frds in Chinatown and they decided to grab lunch nearby. Somehow we decided to grab this as a take out for the dumplings as well! Interestingly, the old lady who was yapping for tips yesterday turned out to be super nice today to everyone. The quality of the food is really great since the dumplings are made to order and they are made right in front of you. I wished they could expand more and have better customer service. Then, they'll be five stars. read more
The General's Chicken was sub-par. Big chunks of not-so-quality chicken with giant slices of very spicy veggies (onions and peppers). Spice is ok, but it didn't add anything to the flavor or consistency. Unlike any General's chicken I've had before, and not in a good way. Very good service. read more

You can't leave this place without feeling like a stuffed duck. I love this place. Their dumplings are made fresh to order and you can see the cluster of women working away at the storefront as they prepare them. The food is relatively cheap for the amount you're getting which is wonderful. However, you're definitely not paying for ambience because they have fire-engine table tops #nuffsaid. My go to's are the fried dumplings (pick any 3) - chicken, beef, lamb, shrimp & veggie. Opt for any filling you'd like. The steamed dumplings are also good. I enjoy the house noodles with chicken, beef, and shrimp. The sauce on these things is magnificent and they get bonus points for thick noodles! Last but not least, their hot and sour soup is the best. You get so much soup (definitely enough for 2-3 people) and it's delicious. Just warning you - it has a kick that builds. Cash only - so come prepared! read more

Came here for our last meal in Toronto. We were roaming around Chinatown and saw pretty good reviews for dumpling here. Once we walked in the host immediately sat my friend and I. The restaurant was very stuffy and there were not much ventilation (Come prepared). We ordered the famous steamed pork dumplings with chives, suggested by the server. We also ordered beef noodle soup and egg and tomatoes over rice. Food was pretty good for the prices. I would definitely order the dumplings again but maybe try the fried dumplings too. Highly recommend not ordering soup during the summers, way too hot. Overall atmosphere was pretty good. Just wish they could add AC or a few fans in the restaurant. The servers were pretty nice. Spoke English and Chinese. They filled our waters pretty quickly. IMPORTANT: CASH ONLY read more

Handmade dumplings, what more can you ask for? We walked in very late at night (15 minutes before they closed actually) and asked if we could order steamed pork and Chinese cabbage (#1) dumplings to go. They said yes and told us to wait while sitting down on the table. After around 10-15 minutes, I received hot steamy dumplings (15 for $8.99). Eating hot, steamy dumplings at 11pm was to die for! Not to mention that they came out directly out from the steam pot (you can watch them make the dumplings from the outside/inside of the shop)! Definitely would come back if I am craving for dumplings again. Would recommend! NOTE: they only accept cash read more
