Fried Truffle Bao($9.99) As soon as I opened the top part of the bun, all the steam was coming out. It was served piping hot which I loved and bottom part was crispy brown. Bao bun was thin enough to enjoy the stuffing. Pork, mushroom & "truffle paste( not fake oil) stuffing was delicious. Dry noodles with meat sauce. Unfortunately noodle was way overcooked for me, not chewy or bouncy at all for my liking. Shanghainese Style Schnitzel( $8.88) Menu description says "A tradition dish that celebrates Lunar New Year since 1930's. Served w/ Homemade Rice Cake and Sweet & Sour Gravy." Good to know. Deep fried pork did not really need dipping sauce. This mochi underneath dippied in worstershire based sauce was very good. Dried tofu cold salad($5.99) There was really crunchy green in this sald that I was picking through but it was not collard green leaves. Not sure what it was but that green stuff was fantastic!! I would definately return for more bao!

AMAZING DUMPLINGS! They are so flavourful, juicy, and the perfect texture. The restaurant is tucked away on Charles street so it's very cozy and has a lot more tables than you think. The service is quick and friendly. Highly recommend coming for their signature bao

The best fried bao is from Sang- Ji Bao! Their baos have a crispy, golden-brown bottom crust and a fluffy, soft, and airy top, as well as a juicy and flavourful filling. It's like an explosion of flavours in each bite! The downtown branch is cozy but very busy. I love the fast service and their staff is very friendly. I definitely recommend trying their excellent Baos specially the Truffle and Original ones. Their new menu items are also good. This location is close to Yonge and Bloor and I suggest taking the TTC. They also have a branch in North York that I would like to visit one day.

Can't say much about the dining in experience but these baos are the real deal. Bottom is crispy like a cracker which is quite unique considering most of the baos I've had are soft. Filling of meat was a satisfying amount and definitely juicy! Probably best bao I've had.

Always a big fan of San-Ji Fried Bao, but we live in RH, not easy to go to downtown. We heard it opened a new location a year ago and finally we got a chance to try it outOh boy, everything is on the spot. We got seated right away when we arrived at 12:30 noon on Friday although many people lining up to get the take out. So don't get scared away when there is a long line-up. We ordered fried bao, savoury soy milk soup and tofu curd appetizer. I love them all. The best in Toronto. The service is wonderful. The store is small, but plThe fried bao is just like what we had in Shanghai. Highly recommended, please give it try, and thank me later

Downtown location of Sang-Ji. Not much parking on the street but the Charles Hayden Garage is just across the street. The pan-fried pork buns are delicious! I got them for take out, so it did take 15-20 minutes to make. Service is good. They spoke English. The inside seating is pretty tight. There's going to be a wait during meal times. I would come back! (Also posted on Google)

4.5/5 this spot is such a solid place to get a quick lunch/dinner. prices are really affordable for the taste! the soup in the baos is so good and goes well with the complimentary vinegar they provide. if you're visiting, you should definitely get both the original ($7.99) and truffle ($9.99) to try. we also got the "savoury dough fritter roll" ($6.59) which is a chinese deep fried dough fritter wrapped in an egg crepe with pork floss and pickled vegetables. the pickled vegetables in the crepe were good but overall that dish would be a skip next time for me.

Picked up an order of the pan-fried pork baos as an after-work snack and was so grateful I did! The baos were piping hot and filled with tons of umami soup. The bottoms were perfectly crispy, and the pork was seasoned well. I meant to try one on the way home but ended up devouring it well before. The little spot is tucked into a corner on Charles and Yonge. The dine-in area has a row of seating consisting of stools facing a wall, perfect for solo diners, as well as tables for sharing. The menu is short and sweet, containing their signature baos, noodles, and a few other snack foods. The wait for my takeout was approximately 15 minutes during their rush hour.

Good fresh buns with fast service. It's currently 4 for 8 dollars. The meat is seasoned nice and there is a good amount of soup inside. The buns are fried quite deeply almost deep fried which is different than the traditional style.

This place is BUSY! I arrived exactly at noon, hoping to pick up Fried Bao during my busy work day. I have been to their old North York location but this place has a lot of eat-in tables in the clean & light space. When I arrived, all the tables were full. I saw people coming in to line up for lunch. People were told that the wait time could be 15-20 mins. I was there for take-out for Original Pork Bao but I found this new menu "Truffle Pork Bao" on the blackboard on the wall, and learned that it was a recent addition to the regular menu. Of course, I got it! Original Pork Bao was as great as their original North York location. I highly recommend the Truffle Pork Bao. It added generous & fragrant truffle flavored paste in the original pork bao, and was very tasty. Customer service was efficient and very pleasant.

Amazing tasting food. Folks are always welcoming and provide you with nice service. Tofu wrap and dry noodles are absolutely YUM. However, that's the only veggie option. They definitely should have a vegetarian bao option!

The pan fried bun here are delicious. It's the soup dumplings are supposed to be. Personally I think the bottom is a bit too hard that's is a bit too hard to eat. The fillings are flavorful. They also have the curry beef flavor which is very interesting to try. The space is clean but tight. Service is fast. You get your order within minutes.

In the mood for dumplings and this place popped up. I checked reviews and asked server for recommendations. She mentioned the Original Pork Sang Ji Bao ($7.99) and Curry Beef Sang Ji Bao ($9.59) are their bestsellers. While recommending their new dish Truffle Fried Bao ($9.99). I decided to try Original Pork and Curry Beef. I have to say the Curry Beef stood out to me as the winner, interesting flavour! I found the Original Pork just normal/okay. These dumplings have a more thicker shell and a crust bottom. I definitely would be interested in trying their Truffle Fried Bao and some other dishes next time. Just a note though - utensils could use a second cleaning and water should be looked at. They provide water pitchers for you but for some reason I could detect a bit of a smell and it had a metallic taste or something to it? Could be a one off experience but if you also experience this maybe ask for a new pitcher or purchase a drink. Overall, a good casual spot to eat solo, with friends or do takeout.

I've been craving Szechuan-style whole grilled fish for the longest time, so I was really happy…read morewhen I stumbled across this spot while walking on Spadina. The posters outside caught my eye, and I decided to come back with a group of three friends to try it out. We came a bit late around 8 PM, and most of the fish were already sold out except the original. We ended up ordering the Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($40), a whole fish served bubbling hot with three toppings (potatoes, spam, and lotus root). You can choose between catfish and turbot, we chose the turbot fish. It looked extremely spicy, but the spice level was actually perfect. It was a bit on the oily side, but pairing it with rice balanced it out nicely. The fish was very tender and buttery, everything tasted amazing! We also ordered the Stir-Fried Egg with Tomato. The eggs were soft, the tomato sauce was rich. Not to mention the portion size was huge, we even had leftovers after eating until we were full. The restaurant itself was spacious, clean, and had plenty of seating. I think they were doing some sort of promotion so they gave us a $25 off coupon, though it expired pretty quickly so we didn't get to use it. I'd definitely come back for that grilled fish.

This is a new Chinese restaurant featuring Hunan and Szechuan cuisine. The spicy dishes emphasize…read morespiciness, not numbness. A few of their dishes come out on a sizzling plate with flames underneath. They are still in soft-opening mode with several specials. You can see the menus via a QR code. The Hunan cuisine is listed as "Hunan Noodles" and the Szechuan cuisine is listed as "Chopfire Menu". The Szechuan dishes are listed with 1 to 3 chilies representing the spiciness. If you can't handle spicy, then avoid eating the chili pieces and you might "survive". The restaurant decided to minimize their food offerings so that they can focus on refining their dishes in terms of quality and taste, including from customer feedback. We ordered the following: 1. Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($39.95). 2. Home Stir Fried Beef ($21.95). 3. Bullfrog with Baby Ginger ($19.95). 4. Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork ($15.95). 5. Drunk Oolong (charcoal roasted oolong tea base) x 2 ($5.95 x 2). 6. Lemon Taro Balls ($7.95). We also saw the following: 7. Stir-Fried Sliced Pork with Green Pepper Noodle Soup ($9.99). First 10 customers each day, only pays $1.00. 8. Ink Painting Cocktail ($5.95). The Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish came out on a huge sizzling platter. The BBQ Fish, a Turbot Fish, was very fresh and flaky, easily coming off the bone. There is no head attached like at typical Chinese restaurants but it would not have fit in the platter. The platter had a delicious sauce (soupy consistency and not sweet), luncheon meat slices, lotus root slices, and two other vegetables, along with chili pieces. The entire dish tasted great together with the various flavours. The menu listed it as 2-chili spicy but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Home Stir Fried Beef is tender. It is listed as 3-chili but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Bullfrog with Baby Ginger has the bullfrog cut up in little pieces; no you don't see a whole frog! The meat was actually good but most pieces have bones in it, so it takes time to eat it carefully. There was ginger slices in it but it, but we thought the slices were quite large! The Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork was very delicious! It came in a sizzling plate. The Cauliflower was flavourful and was not crunchy and not too soft. I've never had preserved pork slices before; it was quite good, not as salty as Chinese preserved vegetables. The Drunk Oolong has comes in a small bowl a with gin and ice. On the side, they include pieces of the charcoal roasted oolong tea leaves so you can smell it; quite a good smell indeed. You can also order it without the gin, which is what I ordered for mine (since I don't drink alcohol). It was such a nice drink! The Lemon Taro Balls dessert was pretty. In the centre was a slice of lemon. The customer service was good. There is plenty of indoor table and counter seating, including a small private room at the back. There is also an outdoor patio during warmer weather. There is pop music playing in the background. There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There are two gender-neutral washrooms downstairs, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-026

From the moment we walked in, the space already set the tone.. dark, dramatic, elegant, and beautifully designed without feeling overly stiff. It has that upscale energy that makes dinner feel like an occasion before you've even ordered anything. Food-wise, there was a lot to love. The signature apple wood roasted Peking duck was definitely a highlight, especially with the tableside carving, which made the whole experience feel even more polished and memorable. The skin had that beautiful lacquered finish, and the duck was rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. We also ordered a few larger dishes for the table, and I really appreciated how everything still felt refined without losing that comforting, indulgent side of Chinese dining. Some dishes leaned rich and luxurious, others were lighter and more aromatic, so the meal never felt repetitive. Service was another standout. Attentive without hovering, smooth without being too formal.. exactly the kind of service you hope for in a restaurant like this.
