Overall, I was hoping that the buns at this place would be above average especially given the ratings and reviews however, I was really disappointed. I tried out types of buns. Specifically I tried the specialty and seafood bun. I found them to be quite average tasting. The bun wasn't really the soft texture I was looking for and the filling tasted pretty bland. This restaurant specializes in classic steamed buns and I highly recommend if baos are your cup of tea. Their dumplings and noodle soups are popular as well. Food: These treasure chests arrive freshly steamed, the dough exterior is pillowy soft with just the right amount of filling. Some of my favourites is the curry chicken, beef, specialty sauce bun, pork & chinese cabbage and butternut squash and egg. Service & atmosphere: There is a good amount of seating for groups of 2 or 4. I will assume that tables can be arranged to accommodate larger groups. The kitchen staff sometimes serve your baos and they are the real deal. The steamed buns especially take ~5-10 min to steam depending on how many customers they have seated and take out orders, if you wait more than 15 min for steamed buns then bring it up with your waiter. My friends and I came here and we were the only table there except for a group of people in the really front who seemed to be taking professional pics or something (blogto or something?!?!) of the food. A good 10+ minutes after ordering, we were told one of the buns we ordered wasn't available that day. Seems like something they should've told us when we ordered. Also the food was really slow for just one table of us. So service wise I wasn't quite impressed... Food wise, the buns were actually quite tasty with a good range of options! And very affordable as well. The soup noodles my friends said were bland (I didn't try so can't say for myself). The congee looked interesting but I didn't try this time. Okay, this place is cute in its own old school Chinese way. Our server was like a cute Chinese mama, very eager to break down the menu, and encourage the baos. Both the fried and steamed baos were great. The noodles and dumplings were not as good. The food was a bit slow to come, but mama was very apologetic saying they were kitchen short staffed because of illness. The day we went, their credit/debit machine was wonky, so good to have some cash on hand in case. This place is quite yummy. They just opened not too long ago and specializes in their Baos. We ordered the fried beef and leek buns and they are amazing!!! For 6.99 you get 5 really large buns full of flavour. The leek bun was very tasty and they did a great job marinating the vegetable. We also ordered the beef soup that had sweet potato and tofu noodles. I would admit it's a unique soup but the soup was very bland. Tasted like water. Next time, I might order the sour won tons. I don't know why this place is always deserted. The inside is really sad, not a single soul (although you can't tell with the lockdown and all). But honestly they have great steamed buns! Amazing food. The fried spicy beef buns were delicious, soft, with a bit of crunch on the bottom. You have to get five if you order them fried and that is a meal in itself. However I had hungry eyes and ordered the spicy beef soup too. It was full of flavor and also a meal in itself. You can't say anything about the portion size being to small with this item. This is officially my favorite place for baó in Toronto. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The menu is a little confusing at first but after I asked the staff it made sense. Quaint family-owned restaurant serving traditional chinese baos and soups - food was homely and delicious, service was warm and prices were unbeatable. We got the tofu soup, smoked chicken bones, and pork and shrimp dumplings (20 for 6.99!!). The smoked chicken bones were really fragrant and had quite a bit meat on them, and is an absolute steal at 2.99. The waitress was really accommodating and came back to ask if the food had too much sauce/not enough, and that they could add more if needed. The dishes taste very home-made and not too oily/heavy, and were perfect for a cold winter day. Fave new Chinese restaurant! We stopped in when we had a craving for a meaty snack mid-afternoon on Family Day. Surprisingly the store was empty except for a table of 4, and since we were 3 hours from dinner, we opted to order 4 buns and a side dish. My partner really wanted his buns pan fried but we discovered if we were going to order different buns individually, they would be steamed. They would only be pan fried if you ordered a "flavour" in groups of 5 or 6. I highly recommend the smoked chicken and spicy beef bun. The Chinese name of the meat part directly translates to "chicken rack", or "chicken carcass" which is usually used to make soup and broths. It usually contains meagre amounts of meat and some interesting bits of cartilage and gristle, but my partner and I were so surprised at how much smokey, lean meat was included in the $2.99 dish. It *is* smoked so I wouldn't describe the dish as succulent and tender; however the dry body and chewy tear-apart stripping of each chicken piece made for a super satisfying chicken eating experience. Recalling it makes my mouth water still. My partner and also I got the chicken and curry bun, a vegetarian bun, and a beef and onion bun. The beef and onion and spicy beef bun really shone. The insides are juicy and savoury, dripping with marinated beefy goodness. This place trumps the quality of Traditional Chinese buns, though I must admit they seem more oriented towards my cantonese tastebuds (lower on grease and salt, whereas northern Chinese cooking tends to be higher in oils). I walk by this place on College every day, and with the cute name and signage, figured I should give it a try. The menu features steamed buns, dumplings and smoked meats. I ordered pork and Chinese cabbage dumplings, beef noodles and (adventurously) smoked pigs stomach. I placed an order through Ritual which said the order would be ready in about 20 minutes. The place was empty when I arrived at about 5:30pm on a Thursday evening. As I waited, I noticed the interior by the kitchen is cluttered with cardboard boxes and things piled up. That seemed strange, but hey, it's a Chinese restaurant so not that unusual. The food was mediocre. Dumplings were very salty. The beef noodles were unremarkable (served in a spicy broth with feen onions - I didn't realize it was actually a soup). The pigs stomach was cold and had a strange metallic taste which made me wonder if it might have gone bad. I've never been so upset about soup, this place should actually stop serving soup. Maybe just keep the wonton soup, but everything else just get rid of it. It's salty water with chili oil - sure there are seasoning, sauces on the side that you can add but it doesn't do much. I got the spicy beef soup and I feel like I paid 6 dollars for 4 slices of beef and 2 pieces of bok choy. Buns (3.5/5) - I found the buns to be a hit or miss. I really like the one with packed similar to soup dumplings, but the other two - chives and eggs and the dry meat one - were not very good. Apart from being affordable in pricing, the food, service was disappointing. Millet pumpkin congee was ordered, although it was the right portion, it was slightly watered down. If I weren't Asian and grew up with eating various kind of congee, I wouldn't have known the difference If there's one thing you can only order, then order- Bao. Afterall the name of this eatery ( Bauzza Bauzza) is a play of the word Bau, or Bao. The pan fried option is only available for order of 5-6 or more. The steam baos, you can always order one. The baos came in a good size, and warm. I was however disappointed when I asked the waitress what's the specialty sauce bun. She s couldn't describe it, but merely mentioned it's the most popular bun. I ordered this bun, as I was curious. It was delicious good. The service was slow, eventhough there was not many tables. Me and my friend had to wave our hands several times to order, to ask her to bring us cutleries and bowls. Towards the end, I was being impatient and just walked up to the cash register and offered to pay. Maybe I'll brave myself to try this place and give it a second chance. Great food, great prices, but ambiance/cleanliness could be better. We got 5 steamed curry chicken buns, 5 pan fried pork and Chinese cabbage buns, and 15 steamed seafood dumplings. The buns were really filling and delicious. We especially liked the crisp and flavour of the pan fried pork and cabbage ones. The curry chicken ones were pretty unique and had chicken, potato and carrots inside. My only complaint for the buns would be that the filling could have had more meat, but the price is right so I would still order them again. The seafood dumplings were decent, good flavour and piping hot. The total only came up to $28 or so before tip (for 2 people) so we were pretty impressed with the price. Plus the portions were so big that we had leftovers to take home. Service was friendly and fast. The biggest thing that Bauzza Bauzza could really improve on were the ambiance and cleanliness. The restaurant is roomy and modern but our table had a lot of dried grease and food splatters on it. The staff were also talking to each other using really loud walkie talkies. And there was a lady (seemed to be the owner's or staff member's elderly mother or grandmother?) just sitting at the back of the restaurant the whole time, glaring at all the customers and watching everyone eat. It was a little bit uncomfortable. But all in all, the food and prices were great so we will probably come back. read more

No frills spot that specializes in bau (chinese steamed buns) and to be fair, the buns I ordered were good. I tried two varieties - pork+veg and the curry one - both were tasty. I wanted to try the fried variety, but for those you have to order a big portion that only makes sense if you're sharing. The wontons in soup however really weren't good though it was a good-sized portion - the soup was very bland and the wontons themselves were kind of meh. Great place for a quick and affordable meal. I came here with a friend for lunch and we ordered a variety of buns to share. I personally liked the spicy beef one the most as this was the most flavorful. The service was efficient and polite. The restaurant was clean. Love this place. The food is very 'home cooked' style. It's the little touches, like making their own red bean paste for buns instead of using pre-made from a can. My wife and I both say it feels like grandma's cooking. It's a bit out of the way and isolated from the Chinese restaurant 'zone', but we come here every chance we get. They recently expanded their menu quite a bit, adding more dishes and dumplings. The dumplings are better than Dumpling House further down Spadina imo, but Bauzza has less variety (no Lamb). Wait is a little longer than assembly line Chinese restaurants, but imo, it's because things are made fresh to order rather than in batches. I.e. you can tell from the way their pan fried dumplings come out that they do a proper boil + cool before frying (adding approx. 6-8 minutes of prep time). Most Chinese restaurants will just fry dumplings raw with a thin layer of water 鍋貼 style to save time. read more

17th March Sunday around 1:45 pm I went to grab something in this restaurant ( Bauzza Bauzza ) so I ordered Lamb sour wonton soup. 2 spoons I tried after I saw something strange inside the soup .I took it out and I checked it's look like cockroach egg.. soon I talk with server and I explained to her. she told me it's a shrimp's skin . I told again it's not shrimps skin it's cockroach egg. Again she brought the dry shrimps packet to show me . Shrimps look like 1 or 2 cm long... She want to offer another wonton soup. Good food. Baozi are very authentic and reminds me of what my grandma used to make at home. The wontons are a good size and flavourful. They are slightly bigger than what is traditionally used in Shanghai chicken wonton soup. Good interior decorarion and servers are friendly. Very down to earth little restaurant (service may be more laissez-faire than most places but better than pointlessly coming and asking if everything is okay every 5s). Overall, definitely recommend.
