This is exactly what Avon needed. A trendy coffee shop in the heart of town. It's something straight out of NYC. Wi-fi is free, drinks are great--though a little bit pricy and atmosphere is clean and bright. They have all the favorites: cold brew, americano, lattes. Not to mention the space is huge! The beans are roasted by J. Renee in West Hartford (AKA yum) and the pastries from Le Petit France, also in West Hartford. Although it's right across the street from the Coffee Trade, I honestly feel like it will be no competition. Dom's is superior in every way, with the exception of the price. Frequently and for some time, I have been going to Dom's. Each time = excellent service. I am impressed and welcomed each visit by the outstanding baristas here. I have made the effort to go back and pay what I have just for them. Once I found the driveway on my first visit--there are two, and an additional driveway to First & Last Tavern that connects to the parking area in the back of the shop--I visited Dom's to try it and was not disappointed. Dom's serves J. Rene (an outstanding shop in West Hartford) coffee, which is coffee at its finest. During this first visit, the barista who helped me and made my mocha was extremely friendly and nice. When I asked her what the shop's specialty drink was, she said it was the cold brewed coffee and described how they made it. She then proceeded to put a perfectly shaped and beautiful heart in steamed milk to finish my mocha. The baristas are very professional and know how to make coffee. Using delicious locally roasted coffee and having a true coffee crafter make for a delicious cup of java, no matter what kind you get. I recommend a honey latte, made with real honey so as to not completely artificially flavor the coffee. On my most recent visit, my barista made my latte then carried it with the tree cake that I got to my counter area where I put down my jacket. He came back a few minutes later and asked if I would like to sample some new cheese that the shop had gotten and even gave me a little bag to go so I could try it later, too. Again, I am impressed!! However, the honey latte I got to enjoy in the shop tasted bitter with not too much honey, as it had another time, and I had to eat pieces of my tree cake to counteract this bitterness. (I had a honey latte to go one other time that was good and tasted as though it had honey, so it is a little inconsistent with coffee being enjoyed in the shop and taken to go.) The prices are a little--OK, extremely--steep. A latte can set you back $5 easily, and $6 for a small dirty chai to go (which my friend typically gets). With the service you get, it is almost worth it, but not entirely. The shop has a high-tech register so the barista can swivel it around for you to swipe and pay (with an option to include a tip as well, which you likely will with these baristas). However, I find this shop is only for a splurge. My latte (for in the shop) and tree cake set me back $8.50. Price differences are visible between the items here and elsewhere. For example, the brownies, from Hartford Baking Co. (HBC), are 50 cents more at Dom's than at HBC, and a cup of coffee [regular, latte, etc.] is about 40 or 50 cents at J.Rene (where the beans are actually roasted). You're paying a little more than the actual sources of the items being consumed. Dom's is a coffee shop, and has just the basic essentials to go with the beverages, like biscotti and various nuts. There isn't a tremendous selection of baked goods, but coffee is the focus--and star--of this shop. A definite must try for baked goods, something that the shop always has, is the Lithuanian tree cake, which is very reminiscent of a lighter short bread cookie but in a funky form and with a better, yummier, harder-to-describe goodness. I really like the atmosphere of Dom's. It's an airy, relaxing shop with an ample amount of seating. It's the perfect place to enjoy coffee while reading or doing a little work. You would never know, stepping in, that its located on a busy main road (an additional point for convenience and ease of getting a great cup of deliciousness). Good coffee; comfortable and clean, modern and unique surroundings; convenient location; and fantastic, friendly service. Oh, and I can get a hole punch in a reward card for each drink I get and get a drink on the house after ten? Oh, and I can enjoy a Lithuanian tree cake with my latte? There are a latte perks to this coffee house! I was in the mood to try out a new coffee house, and also to find a spot to spend an hour or so catching up on email. I was looking for a place with a calming atmosphere, great coffee, and comfortable seating. Check, check, check! The decor is perfect. Clean, relaxing, artistic. Light birch, clean whites, textured grays. The art on the walls is for sale and there are some amazing pieces. Small burlap throw pillows add the perfect splash of rustic charm to the otherwise sleek design. Music is played at the perfect volume, and seating is spaced out enough that conversation feels intimate, and it doesn't get too loud. The layout is great - small, charming rooms in the back, wooden tables and chic stools on one side, a cozier set of couches and chairs on another side with a wall-to-wall bookshelf. I realize I just spent a paragraph on interior design. Now for the coffee: They use J. Rene coffee, so you know it's going to be good. The cold brew is strong and smooth-- just right. There are some fun menu items - honey latte or maple latte, for example- that I look forward to trying. I also had a cranberry orange scone, which I believe is from Hartford Baking Company (at least it tastes just like theirs!). If Yelp had half stars I would knock off half a star for the price- even for an upscale coffee house, they're pretty pricey- and for having different prices depending on whether you order "for here" or "to go". I've never seen that before in a coffee house around here, and while I understand that to-go cups cost money, a 50 cent price hike for each seems steep. If they're going to do that, perhaps have an option to bring your own mug and get the "for here" price? read more

She says she doesn't think that'll taste good and won't be able to do it lol. This is one of the best coffee I've had in the US. My latte is a well balance of flavors - sweetness, bitterness, and aroma. Even with the milk taste, the bold coffee flavor shines through. Absolutely enjoyable. This is such a stark contrast to a certain international coffee chain that rhymes with char-bucks. We were both on vacation and often drive by Doms but had never tried it. We decided that was the day. There's parking behind the building and some outdoor seating as you walk in. Once inside we were greeted by the staff and noticed a lot of seating options, like many other coffee shops. There were people having business meetings, students doing work, and other folks just drinking their coffee reading the paper. My partner explained that we like French vanilla and asked what they'd recommend. He ended up with an iced coffee and me with an iced latte. We also got a cinnamon roll to share. When I tell you this was the best vanilla latte I've ever had, I'm not joking. It was sweet, smooth, and flavorful. Just awesome. He loved his iced coffee too. The cinnamon roll was made out of perhaps pastry dough, flaky and soft in the middle. They also took us over to the cheese shop and showed us what they have there. They do a ton of cheeses and have some select meats. I believe their coffee shop servers J Rene Roasters from Hartford as they have their coffee for sale by the bag in the lobby. I've been here a few times to get work done. First time the staff was a little rude and snarky and I also noticed how extremely overpriced the beverages were! The taste of them is standard. Nothing amazing, not disappointing, but not worth the price at all! The last time I was here shortly after I arrived they put up a reserved sign near where I was sitting and asked me to move. I figured it would be a professional small gathering. I was wrong. Within 10 min the place was filled with screaming kids and I mean absolutely packed. Not an environment to get any work done in. So I left very disappointed after spending 5 dollars on a small coffee that I wanted to enjoy. Some unique favorites include the honey latte and maple latte, while an old favorite would be an iced chai tea latte. Always plenty of yummy pastries, including pistachio muffins, fruit scones, toasted almond croissants, and chocolate croissants. Only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5, is the lack of comfy seating. There is a minimal feel in the furniture, with small tables and even smaller chairs with no backs. While I am used to large couches with plenty of lounging space at typical coffee shops, this is not what I find here at Dom's. I prefer to take my coffee and treats to go for this reason. read more

The decór alone was enough to make my jaw drop. It's inside of what used to be a house, and it's so minimalistic and calming. I love the little nooks/alcoves you can go sit in. I stopped in here for the first time and ordered a Vanilla Cold Brew and a plain bagel with plain cream cheese to go. The coffee was great and tasted freshly brewed but the bagel was terrible. The bagel cost $4, which is absurdly expensive considering they didn't toast it and didn't even put the cream cheese on it- you had to put it on yourself!
